I have laid a
snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou
wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast
striven against the LORD.
I laid a
snare for you, O Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it. You were found and captured because you
challenged the LORD.
Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.
Come
against her from the
farthest border. Break open her
granaries; pile her up like mounds of grain.
Devote her to destruction; leave her no survivors.
Call together the archers
against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp
against it round about; let none thereof escape:
recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud
against the LORD,
against the Holy One of Israel.
Summon the archers
against Babylon, all who string the bow.
Encamp all around her; let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds; do to her as she has done. For she has
defied the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.
“Behold, I am
against you, O
arrogant one,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts, “for your day has come, the time when I will
punish you.
A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
A sword is against the Chaldeans, declares the LORD, against those who live in Babylon, and against her officials and wise men.
A sword is upon the liars; and they shall
dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.
A sword is against her false prophets, and they will become fools. A sword is against her warriors, and they will be filled with terror.
A sword is upon their horses, and upon their
chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be
robbed.
A sword is
against her horses and
chariots and
against all the foreigners in her midst, and they will become like women. A sword is
against her
treasuries, and they will be
plundered.
They shall hold the bow and the
lance: they are cruel, and will not
shew mercy: their voice shall
roar like the sea, and they shall
ride upon horses, every one put in
array, like a man to the battle,
against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
They
grasp the bow and
spear; they are cruel and
merciless. Their voice roars like the sea, and they
ride upon horses, lined up like men in formation
against you, O Daughter of Babylon.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the
habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Babylon from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand
against Me?”
Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken
against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed
against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their
habitation desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up
against Babylon and the strategies He has devised
against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will
stir up
against Babylon and
against the people of Leb-kamai the spirit of a destroyer.
And will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall
fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be
against her round about.
I will send strangers to Babylon to
winnow her and empty her land; for they will come
against her from every side in her day of
disaster.
Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and
against him that lifteth himself up in his
brigandine: and
spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.
Do not let the archer bend his bow or put on his
armor. Do not
spare her young men;
devote all her army to destruction!
For Israel hath not been
forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin
against the Holy One of Israel.
For Israel and Judah have not been abandoned by their God, the LORD of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.”
Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: the LORD hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his
device is
against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the
vengeance of the LORD, the
vengeance of his temple.
Sharpen the arrows! Fill the quivers! The LORD has
aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His plan is aimed at Babylon to destroy her, for it is the
vengeance of the LORD—
vengeance for His temple.
Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the
watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake
against the inhabitants of Babylon.
Raise a
banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the
watchmen; prepare the
ambush. For the LORD has both devised and accomplished what He spoke
against the people of Babylon.
The LORD of hosts hath
sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a
shout against thee.
The LORD of Hosts has
sworn by Himself: “Surely I will fill you up with men as with locusts, and they will
shout in triumph over you.”
Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
“Behold, I am
against you, O destroying mountain, you who
devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will stretch out My hand
against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and turn you into a
charred mountain.
Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the
trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations
against her, call together
against her the kingdoms of
Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz;
appoint a captain
against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.
“Raise a
banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn among the nations! Prepare the nations
against her.
Summon the kingdoms
against her—
Ararat, Minni, and
Ashkenaz.
Appoint a captain
against her; bring up horses like
swarming locusts.
Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.
Prepare the nations for battle against her— the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the lands they rule.
And the land shall
tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed
against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a
desolation without an inhabitant.
The earth quakes and writhes because the LORD’s intentions
against Babylon stand: to make the land of Babylon a
desolation, without inhabitant.
And lest your heart
faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler
against ruler.
Do not let your heart grow
faint, and do not be afraid when the
rumor is heard in the land; for a
rumor will come one year— and then another the next year— of violence in the land and of ruler
against ruler.
Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the LORD.
Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will
shout for joy over Babylon because the destroyers from the north will come
against her,” declares the LORD.
Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should
fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.
Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty
stronghold, the destroyers I send will come
against her,” declares the LORD.
Because the
spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite.
For a destroyer is coming
against her—
against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken, for the LORD is a God of
retribution; He will repay in full.
So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.
Jeremiah had written on a single
scroll about all the
disaster that would come upon Babylon—all these words that had been written concerning Babylon.
Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken
against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be
desolate for ever.
and say, ‘O LORD, You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain—neither man nor beast. Indeed, it will be
desolate forever.’
For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast them out from his presence, that
Zedekiah rebelled
against the king of Babylon.
For because of the anger of the LORD, all this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He finally banished them from His presence. And
Zedekiah also rebelled
against the king of Babylon.
And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.
So in the ninth year of
Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched
against Jerusalem with his entire army. They
encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.
From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth
against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me
desolate and
faint all the day.
He sent fire from on high, and it overpowered my bones. He spread a net for my feet and turned me back. He made me
desolate,
faint all the day long.
The Lord hath
trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly
against me to
crush my young men: the Lord hath
trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress.
The Lord has rejected all the mighty men in my midst; He has summoned an army
against me to
crush my young warriors. Like grapes in a winepress, the Lord has
trampled the Virgin Daughter of Judah.
Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his
adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a
menstruous woman among them.
Zion stretches out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The LORD has decreed
against Jacob that his neighbors become his foes. Jerusalem has become an unclean thing among them.
The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled
against His command.
Listen, all you people; look upon my suffering. My young men and maidens have gone into captivity.
He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about.
In fierce anger He has cut off every horn of Israel and withdrawn His right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.
All thine enemies have opened their mouth
against thee: they hiss and
gnash the teeth: they say, We have
swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.
All your enemies open their mouths
against you. They hiss and
gnash their teeth, saying, “We have
swallowed her up. This is the day for which we have waited. We have lived to see it!”
Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.
Indeed, He keeps turning His hand against me all day long.
He hath builded
against me, and compassed me with gall and
travail.
He has besieged me and surrounded me with bitterness and
hardship.
All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
All our enemies open their mouths against us.
Thou hast seen all their
vengeance and all their imaginations
against me.
You have seen all their
malice, all their plots
against me.
Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;
O LORD, You have heard their insults, all their plots against me—
The lips of those that rose up
against me, and their
device against me all the day.
But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very
wroth against us.
unless You have utterly rejected us and remain
angry with us beyond measure.
Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over
against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise
alongside them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
When the creatures moved, the wheels moved; when the creatures stood still, the wheels stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose
alongside them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a
rebellious nation that hath rebelled
against me: they and their fathers have
transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the Israelites, to a
rebellious nation that has rebelled
against Me. To this very day they and their fathers have rebelled
against Me.
Behold, I have made thy face strong
against their faces, and thy
forehead strong
against their foreheads.
Behold, I will make your face as hard as their faces, and your
forehead as hard as their foreheads.
I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over
against them, and a noise of a great
rushing.
It was the sound of the wings of the living creatures
brushing against one another and the sound of the wheels beside them, a great
rumbling sound.
And lay siege
against it, and build a fort
against it, and cast a mount
against it; set the camp also
against it, and set
battering rams
against it round about.
Then lay siege
against it: Construct a siege wall, build a
ramp to it, set up camps
against it, and place
battering rams around it on all sides.
Moreover take thou unto thee an iron pan, and set it for a wall of iron between thee and the city: and set thy face against it, and it shall be besieged, and thou shalt lay siege against it. This shall be a sign to the house of Israel.
Then take an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between
yourself and the city. Turn your face toward it so that it is under siege, and
besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.
Therefore thou shalt set thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt
prophesy against it.
You must turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared, and
prophesy against it.
And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.
But she has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against My statutes worse than the countries around her. For her people have rejected My ordinances and have not walked in My statutes.’
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, am
against thee, and will
execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I Myself am
against you, Jerusalem, and I will
execute judgments among you in the sight of the nations.
Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will
execute judgments in thee, and the whole
remnant of thee will I
scatter into all the winds.
As a result, fathers among you will eat their sons, and sons will eat their fathers. I will
execute judgments
against you and
scatter all your
remnant to every wind.’
Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my
fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the LORD have spoken it in my zeal, when I have accomplished my
fury in them.
And when My anger is spent and I have
vented My wrath
against them, I will be
appeased. And when I have spent My wrath on them, they will know that I, the LORD, in My zeal have spoken.
So it shall be a reproach and a
taunt, an instruction and an
astonishment unto the nations that are round about thee, when I shall
execute judgments in thee in anger and in
fury and in
furious rebukes. I the LORD have spoken it.
So you will be a reproach and a
taunt, a
warning and a
horror to the nations around you, when I
execute judgments
against you in anger, wrath, and
raging fury. I, the LORD, have spoken.
When I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, which shall be for their destruction, and which I will send to destroy you: and I will increase the famine upon you, and will break your staff of bread:
When I shower you with the deadly arrows of famine and destruction that I will send to destroy you, I will
intensify the famine
against you and cut off your supply of food.
So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall
bereave thee; and
pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it.
I will send famine and wild beasts
against you, and they will leave you childless. Plague and
bloodshed will
sweep through you, and I will bring a sword
against you. I, the LORD, have spoken.”
Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and
prophesy against them,
“Son of man, set your face
against the mountains of Israel and
prophesy against them.
And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.
You are to say: ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.
So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land
desolate,
yea, more
desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will stretch out My hand
against them, and wherever they live I will make the land a
desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
Now is the end come upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways, and will
recompense upon thee all thine abominations.
The end is now upon you, and I will
unleash My anger
against you. I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.
An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come.
The end has come! The end has come! It has
roused itself
against you. Behold, it has come!
Now will I shortly pour out my
fury upon thee, and
accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and will
recompense thee for all thine abominations.
Very soon I will pour out My wrath upon you and
vent My anger
against you; I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.
Ye have feared the sword; and I will bring a sword upon you, saith the Lord GOD.
You fear the sword, so I will bring the sword against you, declares the Lord GOD.
And I will bring you out of the midst thereof, and deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will
execute judgments among you.
I will bring you out of the city and deliver you into the hands of foreigners, and I will
execute judgments
against you.
Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel that
prophesy, and say thou unto them that
prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
“Son of man,
prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now
prophesying. Tell those who
prophesy out of their own imagination: Hear the word of the LORD!
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you have uttered vain words and seen false visions, I am against you, declares the Lord GOD.
And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of My people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
Thus will I
accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have
daubed it with untempered
morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that
daubed it;
And after I have
vented My wrath
against the wall and
against those who
whitewashed it, I will say to you: ‘The wall is gone, and so are those who
whitewashed it—
Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face
against the daughters of thy people, which
prophesy out of their own heart; and
prophesy thou
against them,
Now, O son of man, set your face
against the daughters of your people who
prophesy out of their own imagination.
Prophesy against them
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am
against your
pillows,
wherewith ye there
hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will
tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye
hunt to make them fly.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: See, I am
against the magic charms with which you
ensnare souls like birds, and I will
tear them from your arms. So I will free the souls you have ensnared like birds.
And I will set my face
against that man, and will make him a sign and a
proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will set My face
against that man and make him a sign and a
proverb; I will cut him off from among My people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
And if the prophet be
deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have
deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
But if the prophet is
enticed to speak a message, then it was I the LORD who
enticed him, and I will stretch out My hand
against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.
Son of man, when the land sinneth
against me by
trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:
Or if I bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through it,’ so that I cut off from it both man and beast,
For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four
sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the
noisome beast, and the
pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘How much worse will it be when I send
against Jerusalem My four
dire judgments—sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague—in order to cut off from it both man and beast?
And I will set my face
against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall
devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face
against them.
And I will set My face
against them. Though they may have escaped the fire, yet another fire will
consume them. And when I set My face
against them, you will know that I am the LORD.
Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that
hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are
ashamed of thy
lewd way.
Therefore I stretched out My hand
against you and reduced your portion. I gave you over to the desire of those who
hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were
ashamed of your
lewd conduct.
Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast
hated; I will even gather them round about
against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
therefore I will surely gather all the lovers with whom you found pleasure, all those you loved and all those you
hated. I will gather them
against you from all around and
expose you before them, and they will see you completely naked.
They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.
They will bring a
mob against you, who will stone you and cut you to pieces with their swords.
And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and
execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the
harlot, and thou also shalt give no
hire any more.
Then they will burn down your houses and
execute judgment
against you in the sight of many women. I will put an end to your
prostitution, and you will never again pay your lovers.
So will I make my
fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more
angry.
So I will lay to rest My wrath
against you, and My jealousy will turn away from you. Then I will be calm and no longer
angry.
Behold, every one that useth
proverbs shall use this
proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.
But he rebelled
against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he
prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?
But this king rebelled
against Babylon by sending his envoys to Egypt to ask for horses and a large army. Will he
flourish? Will the one who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and yet escape?’
And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my
snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will
plead with him there for his
trespass that he hath
trespassed against me.
I will spread My net over him and catch him in My
snare. I will bring him to Babylon and
execute judgment upon him there for the treason he committed
against Me.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.
Then the nations set out
against him from the provinces on every side. They spread their net over him; he was
trapped in their pit.
But they rebelled
against me, and would not
hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they
forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my
fury upon them to
accomplish my anger
against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
But they rebelled
against Me and refused to
listen. None of them cast away the abominations before their eyes, and they did not
forsake the idols of Egypt. So I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
vent My anger
against them in the land of Egypt.
But the house of Israel rebelled
against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they
despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly
polluted: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them in the wilderness, to
consume them.
Yet the house of Israel rebelled
against Me in the wilderness. They did not follow My statutes and they rejected My ordinances—though the man who does these things will live by them—and they utterly
profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and put an end to them in the wilderness.
Notwithstanding the children rebelled
against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they
polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them, to
accomplish my anger
against them in the wilderness.
But the children rebelled
against Me. They did not walk in My statutes or carefully observe My ordinances—though the man who does these things will live by them—and they
profaned My Sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
vent My anger
against them in the wilderness.
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have
blasphemed me, in that they have committed a
trespass against me.
Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: In this way also your fathers
blasphemed Me by their unfaithfulness
against Me.
And I will
purge out from among you the rebels, and them that
transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they
sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
And I will
purge you of those who
rebel and
transgress against Me. I will bring them out of the land in which they dwell, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and
prophesy against the forest of the south field;
“Son of man, set your face toward the south,
preach against it, and
prophesy against the forest of the Negev.
Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and
prophesy against the land of Israel,
And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am
against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his
sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.
and tell her that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am
against you, and I will draw My sword from its
sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.
Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his
sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:
Because I will cut off both the righteous and the wicked, My sword will be
unsheathed against everyone from south to north.
Cry and
howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people:
smite therefore upon thy
thigh.
Cry out and
wail, O son of man, for the sword is
wielded against My people; it is
against all the princes of Israel! They are
tossed to the sword with My people; therefore strike your
thigh.
I have set the point of the sword
against all their gates, that their heart may
faint, and their ruins be multiplied:
ah! it is made bright, it is
wrapped up for the slaughter.
So that their hearts may
melt and many may
stumble, I have appointed at all their gates a sword for slaughter.
Yes, it is ready to
flash like
lightning; it is drawn for slaughter.
Mark out one road for the sword to come
against Rabbah of the
Ammonites, and another
against Judah into fortified Jerusalem.
