A small browser extension that adds a right-click option to look up selected text directly in this dictionary, without needing to come back to the site and type it in yourself.

Select a word on any page, right-click, choose "Look up ... in SG Heritage Dictionary," and it opens a new tab with that word's entry.

Download the extension (.zip)

Your browser or Windows may flag this download as a threat. This is a false positive.

Browsers (Chrome, Brave, Edge) use reputation-based scanning that flags any file very few people have downloaded yet — a brand new, low-traffic file like this one triggers that warning regardless of what's actually inside it. Separately, Windows Defender's heuristics can flag the general shape of any browser extension that includes a background script plus a content script running on all pages, because that combination is also what malicious browser-hijacker extensions look like structurally — even though this extension only reads your current text selection to open a lookup, and does nothing else.

If this happens to you:

Which browsers this works on

This works on Chrome, Brave, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, and any other Chromium-based browser. It does not work on Firefox or Safari, which use a different extension format.

What selections it works on

The right-click option only appears for a single word, two words joined by one hyphen (e.g. "cross-bar"), or three words joined by two hyphens (e.g. "father-in-law"). It won't appear for ordinary multi-word phrases separated by spaces.

Installation

  1. Download the zip above and unzip it somewhere permanent on your computer — not a Downloads or Temp folder you might clear out later, since the browser loads the extension directly from these files rather than copying them.
  2. Open your browser's extensions page:
  3. Turn on Developer mode (usually a toggle in the top-right corner of the extensions page).
  4. Click Load unpacked, then select the unzipped SG-dictionary-lookup-extension folder (the one containing manifest.json directly inside it).
  5. Select a word on any webpage, right-click, and confirm the lookup option appears and works.

Because this is loaded as a developer extension rather than installed from a store, your browser may show a "Developer mode extensions" warning banner. That's normal and doesn't affect how it works.
