And
Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his
nativity, in
Ur of the Chaldees.
During his father Terah’s lifetime,
Haran died in his native land, in
Ur of the
Chaldeans.
And Terah took
Abram his son, and Lot the son of
Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son
Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from
Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of
Canaan; and they came unto
Haran, and dwelt there.
And Terah took his son
Abram, his grandson Lot son of
Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai the wife of
Abram, and they set out from
Ur of the
Chaldeans for the land of
Canaan. But when they arrived in
Haran, they settled there.
And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of
Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to
inherit it.
The LORD also told him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of
Ur of the
Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.”
And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of
Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.
And the LORD sent
Chaldean,
Aramean,
Moabite, and
Ammonite raiders against
Jehoiakim in order to destroy Judah, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His servants the prophets.
And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between two walls, which is by the king’s garden: (now the Chaldees were against the city round about:) and the king went the way toward the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of
Jericho: and all his army were scattered from him.
but the army of the
Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook him in the plains of
Jericho, and all his army was separated from him.
So they took the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment upon him.
The Chaldeans seized the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, where they pronounced judgment on him.
And all the army of the Chaldees, that were with the captain of the guard,
brake down the walls of Jerusalem round about.
And the whole army of the Chaldeans under the captain of the guard broke down the walls around Jerusalem.
And the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the
brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, did the Chaldees break in pieces, and carried the brass of them to Babylon.
Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried the bronze to Babylon.
And Gedaliah
sware to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldees: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you.
And Gedaliah took an oath before them and their men,
assuring them, “Do not be afraid of the servants of the
Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you.”
But it came to pass in the seventh month, that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and
smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at
Mizpah.
In the seventh month, however,
Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was a member of the royal family, came with ten men and struck down and killed Gedaliah, along with the Judeans and
Chaldeans who were with him at
Mizpah.
And all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose, and came to Egypt: for they were afraid of the Chaldees.
Then all the people small and great, together with the commanders of the army, arose and fled to Egypt for fear of the Chaldeans.
Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who
slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no
compassion upon young man or
maiden, old man, or him that
stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.
So He brought up against them the king of the
Chaldeans, who put their young men to the sword in the sanctuary,
sparing neither young men nor young women, neither elderly nor infirm. God gave them all into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar,
And they burnt the house of God, and
brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.
Then the Chaldeans set fire to the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem. They burned down all the palaces and destroyed every article of value.
But after that our fathers had
provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the
Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.
But since our fathers angered the God of heaven, He delivered them into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the
Chaldean who destroyed this temple and carried away the people to Babylon.
Thou art the LORD the God, who
didst choose
Abram, and broughtest him forth out of
Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
You are the LORD, the God who chose
Abram, who brought him out of
Ur of the
Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham.
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The
Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away,
yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was still speaking, another
messenger came and reported: “The
Chaldeans formed three bands,
raided the camels, and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’
excellency, shall be as when God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
And Babylon, the
jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the
Chaldeans, will be overthrown by God like
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
Behold the land of the
Chaldeans; this people was not,
til the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.
Look at the land of the
Chaldeans— a people now of no account. The Assyrians destined it for the desert creatures; they set up their siege towers and
stripped its palaces. They brought it to ruin.
Thus saith the LORD, your
redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the
Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
Thus says the LORD your
Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake, I will send to Babylon and bring them all as fugitives, even the
Chaldeans, in the ships in which they
rejoice.
Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
“Go down and sit in the dust, O Virgin Daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, O Daughter of
Chaldea! For you will no longer be called tender or delicate.
Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
“Sit in silence and go into darkness, O Daughter of
Chaldea. For you will no longer be called the queen of kingdoms.
All ye,
assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the
Chaldeans.
Come together, all of you, and
listen: Which of the idols has
foretold these things? The LORD’s chosen ally will carry out His desire against Babylon, and His arm will be against the
Chaldeans.
Go ye forth of Babylon,
flee ye from the
Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
Leave Babylon!
Flee from the
Chaldeans! Declare it with a
shout of joy,
proclaim it, let it go out to the ends of the earth, saying, “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob!”
Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands,
wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the
Chaldeans, which
besiege you without the walls, and I will
assemble them into the midst of this city.
this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will turn against you the weapons of war in your hands, with which you are fighting the king of Babylon and the
Chaldeans who
besiege you outside the wall, and I will
assemble their forces in the center of this city.
He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the
Chaldeans that
besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.
Whoever stays in this city will die by sword and famine and plague, but
whoever goes out and surrenders to the
Chaldeans who
besiege you will live; he will retain his life like a
spoil of war.
And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
In fact, I will hand you over to those you
dread, who want to take your life—to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and to the
Chaldeans.
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away
captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the
Chaldeans for their good.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, so I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I have sent away from this place to the land of the Chaldeans.
And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will
punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the
Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
But when seventy years are complete, I will
punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the
Chaldeans, for their guilt, declares the LORD, and I will make it an
everlasting desolation.
And
Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the
Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from the hands of the
Chaldeans, but he will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.
And he shall lead
Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the LORD: though ye fight with the
Chaldeans, ye shall not
prosper?
He will take
Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will stay until I attend to him, declares the LORD. If you fight against the
Chaldeans, you will not succeed.’”
Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the
Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the
pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.
See how the siege ramps are mounted against the city to capture it. And by sword and famine and plague, the city has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What You have spoken has happened, as You now see!
And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD,
Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the
Chaldeans.
Yet You, O Lord GOD, have said to me, ‘
Buy for
yourself the field with silver and call in witnesses, even though the city has been delivered into the hands of the
Chaldeans!’”
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:
Therefore this is what the LORD says: Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hands of the
Chaldeans and of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will capture it.
And the
Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto
Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to
provoke me to anger.
And the
Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will come in, set it on fire, and burn it, along with the houses of those who
provoked Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal on their rooftops and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods.
And fields shall be bought in this land,
whereof ye say, It is
desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the
Chaldeans.
And fields will be bought in this land about which you are saying, ‘It is a
desolation, without man or beast; it has been delivered into the hands of the
Chaldeans.’
They come to fight with the
Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my
fury, and for all whose wickedness I have
hid my face from this city.
The Chaldeans are coming to fight and to fill those places with the corpses of the men I will strike down in My anger and in My wrath. I have hidden My face from this city because of all its wickedness.
But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.
So when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched into the land, we said: ‘Come, let us go into Jerusalem to escape the armies of the
Chaldeans and the Arameans.’ So we have remained in Jerusalem.”
Then Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the
Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard
tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.
Pharaoh’s army had left Egypt, and when the
Chaldeans who were
besieging Jerusalem heard the report, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.
Then the Chaldeans will return and fight against this city. They will capture it and burn it down.
Thus saith the LORD;
Deceive not
yourselves, saying, The
Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.
This is what the LORD says: Do not
deceive yourselves by saying, ‘The
Chaldeans will go away for good,’ for they will not!
For though ye had
smitten the whole army of the
Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire army of the Chaldeans that is fighting against you, and only wounded men remained in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city down.”
And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
When the Chaldean army withdrew from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
But when he reached the Gate of Benjamin, the captain of the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, seized him and said, “You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”
Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the
Chaldeans. But he
hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
“That is a lie,” Jeremiah replied. “I am not deserting to the
Chaldeans!” But Irijah would not
listen to him; instead, he arrested Jeremiah and took him to the officials.
Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the
Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
“This is what the LORD says:
Whoever stays in this city will die by sword and famine and plague, but
whoever surrenders to the
Chaldeans will live; he will retain his life like a
spoil of war, and he will live.
But if thou
wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the
Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
But if you do not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then this city will be delivered into the hands of the
Chaldeans. They will burn it down, and you
yourself will not escape their
grasp.’”
And
Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the
Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they
mock me.
But King
Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Jews who have deserted to the
Chaldeans, for the
Chaldeans may deliver me into their hands to
abuse me.”
So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
All your wives and children will be brought out to the
Chaldeans. And you
yourself will not escape their
grasp, for you will be seized by the king of Babylon, and this city will be burned down.”
But the
Chaldeans’ army pursued after them, and overtook
Zedekiah in the plains of
Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of
Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.
But the army of the
Chaldeans pursued them and overtook
Zedekiah in the plains of
Jericho. They seized him and brought him up to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on him.
And the
Chaldeans burned the king’s house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and
brake down the walls of Jerusalem.
The Chaldeans set fire to the palace of the king and to the houses of the people, and they broke down the walls of Jerusalem.
And Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan
sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the
Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.
Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,
swore an oath to them and their men,
assuring them, “Do not be afraid to serve the
Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well with you.
As for me, behold, I will dwell at
Mizpah to serve the
Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.
As for me, I will stay in
Mizpah to represent you before the
Chaldeans who come to us. As for you, gather wine grapes, summer fruit, and oil, place them in your
storage jars, and live in the cities you have taken.”
Ishmael also
slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at
Mizpah, and the
Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.
Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at
Mizpah, as well as the
Chaldean soldiers who were there.
Because of the
Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.
to escape the
Chaldeans. For they were afraid of the
Chaldeans because
Ishmael son of Nethaniah had struck down Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.
But
Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the
Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away
captives into Babylon.
Rather,
Baruch son of Neriah is
inciting you against us to deliver us into the hands of the
Chaldeans, so that they may put us to death or exile us to Babylon!”
The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.
This is the word that the LORD spoke through Jeremiah the prophet concerning Babylon and the land of the Chaldeans:
Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.
Flee from the midst of Babylon; depart from the land of the
Chaldeans; be like the he-goats that lead the flock.
The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his
indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the
Chaldeans.
The LORD has opened His
armory and brought out His weapons of wrath, for this is the work of the Lord GOD of Hosts in the land of the
Chaldeans.
A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
A sword is against the Chaldeans, declares the LORD, against those who live in Babylon, and against her officials and wise men.
Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the
Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their
habitation desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the land of the
Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.
And they will fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and pierced through in her streets.
A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:
“The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
But the army of the
Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook
Zedekiah in the plains of
Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
but the army of the
Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook
Zedekiah in the plains of
Jericho, and all his army was separated from him.
Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of
Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.
The
Chaldeans seized the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on
Zedekiah.
And all the army of the
Chaldeans, that were with the captain of the guard,
brake down all the walls of Jerusalem round about.
And the whole army of the Chaldeans under the captain of the guard broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.
Also the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the
brasen sea that was in the house of the LORD, the
Chaldeans brake, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon.
Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.
The word of the LORD came expressly unto
Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the
Chaldeans by the river
Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.
the word of the LORD came directly to
Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the
Chaldeans by the River Kebar. And there the LORD’s hand was upon him.
My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my
snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the
Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.
But I will spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My
snare. I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the
Chaldeans; yet he will not see it, and there he will die.
And that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the images of the
Chaldeans pourtrayed with
vermilion,
The Babylonians, and all the
Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and
renowned, all of them riding upon horses.
the Babylonians and all the
Chaldeans, the men of Pekod, Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them—all desirable young men, governors and commanders, officers and men of
renown, mounted on horses.
Children in whom was no
blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and
cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the
Chaldeans.
young men without
blemish, handsome, gifted in all wisdom, knowledgeable, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace—and to teach them the language and literature of the
Chaldeans.
Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the
Chaldeans, for to
shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
So the king gave orders to
summon the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers to explain his dreams. When they came and stood before the king,
Then spake the
Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will
shew the interpretation.
Then the astrologers answered the king in
Aramaic, “O king, may you live
forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation.”
The king answered and said to the
Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a
dunghill.
The king replied to the astrologers, “My word is final: If you do not tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will be cut into pieces and your houses will be reduced to
rubble.
The
Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can
shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any
magician, or
astrologer, or
Chaldean.
The astrologers answered the king, “No one on earth can do what the king requests! No king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any
magician,
enchanter, or
astrologer.
Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
At this time some astrologers came forward and
maliciously accused the Jews,
Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners came in, I told them the dream, and they could not
interpret it for me.
The king
cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the
Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon,
Whosoever shall read this writing, and
shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers, and diviners to be brought in, and he said to these wise men of Babylon, “
Whoever reads this inscription and tells me its interpretation will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king
Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers,
Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the days of your father he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King
Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your own father, the king,
In that night was
Belshazzar the king of the
Chaldeans slain.
That very night
Belshazzar king of the
Chaldeans was slain,
In the first year of
Darius the son of
Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the
Chaldeans;
In the first year of
Darius son of
Xerxes, a
Mede by descent, who was made ruler over the kingdom of the
Chaldeans—
For, lo, I raise up the
Chaldeans, that bitter and
hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
For behold, I am raising up the
Chaldeans— that
ruthless and
impetuous nation which marches through the breadth of the earth to seize dwellings not their own.
Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.
So Abraham left the land of the
Chaldeans and settled in
Haran. After his father died, God brought him out of that place and into this land where you are now living.
This people are descended of the Chaldeans:
In the fifth year, and in the seventh day of the month, what time as the Chaldeans took Jerusalem, and burnt it with fire.
How should a man then think and say that they are gods, when even the Chaldeans themselves dishonour them?
And it passed through, and burned those Chaldeans it found about the furnace.
