What could have been done more to my
vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
What more could I have done for My
vineyard than I already did for it? Why, when I
expected sweet grapes, did it bring forth
sour fruit?

Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
You
expected much, but behold, it amounted to little. And what you brought home, I
blew away. Why? declares the LORD of Hosts. Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is
busy with his own house.

Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

Gaza will
writhe in
agony, as will

lend to them,
expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the
ungrateful and wicked.

beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence,
wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
I
beg you that when I come I may not need to be as bold as I
expect toward those who
presume that we live according to the flesh.
According to my earnest
expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be
ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be
magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
I eagerly
expect and hope that I will in no way be
ashamed, but will have complete boldness so that now as always Christ will be
exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

Again, considering how that the princes that are borderers and neighbours unto my kingdom wait for
opportunities, and
expect what shall be the event. I have appointed my son
Antiochus king, whom I often committed and
commended unto many of you, when I went up into the high provinces; to whom I have written as followeth:
Wherefore he
exhorted his people not to fear the coming of the heathen against them, but to remember the help which in former times they had received from heaven, and now to
expect the victory and aid, which should come unto them from the
Almighty.
