bowls, and the cups: and for the golden basons he gave gold by weight for every
bason; and likewise silver by weight for every
bason of silver:
the weight of the pure gold for the forks,
sprinkling bowls, and
pitchers; the weight of each gold
dish; the weight of each silver
bowl;

To him that is
afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the
Almighty.
A
despairing man should have the kindness of his friend, even if he forsakes the fear of the
Almighty.
You would even cast lots for an
orphan and
barter away your friend.
then You would
plunge me into the
pit, and even my own clothes would
despise me.
They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
Will it go down to the gates of
Sheol? Will we go down together into the dust?”
Have
pity upon me, have
pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
Have
pity on me, my friends, have
pity, for the hand of God has struck me.
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
to preserve his soul from the Pit and his life from perishing by the sword.
Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
He draws near to the Pit, and his life to the messengers of death.
Then he is
gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the
pit: I have found a
ransom.
to be
gracious to him and say, ‘
Spare him from going down to the
Pit; I have found his
ransom,’
He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
He redeemed my soul from going down to the Pit, and I will live to see the light.’
To bring back his soul from the
pit, to be
enlightened with the light of the living.
to bring back his soul from the
Pit, that he may be
enlightened with the light of life.
He made a
pit, and
digged it, and is fallen into the
ditch which he made.
He has
dug a hole and hollowed it out; he has fallen into a
pit of his own making.
The heathen are sunk down in the
pit that they made: in the net which they
hid is their own foot taken.
The nations have fallen into a pit of their making; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun.
Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
To You, O LORD, I call; be not
deaf to me, O my Rock. For if You remain silent, I will be like those descending to the
Pit.
O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
O LORD, You pulled me up from
Sheol; You
spared me from descending into the
Pit.
What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
“What gain is there in my
bloodshed, in my descent to the
Pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it
proclaim Your faithfulness?
For without cause have they
hid for me their net in a
pit, which without cause they have
digged for my soul.
For without cause they laid their net for me; without reason they
dug a
pit for my soul.
He brought me up also out of an
horrible pit, out of the
miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
He lifted me up from the
pit of
despair, out of the
miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, and made my footsteps firm.
But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the
pit of destruction:
bloody and
deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.
But You, O God, will bring them down to the
Pit of destruction; men of
bloodshed and
deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in You.
They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have
digged a
pit before me, into the midst
whereof they are fallen themselves.
Selah.
They spread a net for my feet; my soul was
despondent. They
dug a
pit before me, but they themselves have fallen into it!
Selah Let not the
waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep
swallow me up, and let not the
pit shut her mouth upon me.
Do not let the floods
engulf me or the depths
swallow me up; let not the
Pit close its mouth over me.
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of
heaviness: and I looked for some to take
pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.
Insults have broken my heart, and I am in
despair. I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found no one.
So that he
forsook the tabernacle of
Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
He abandoned the tabernacle of
Shiloh, the tent He had
pitched among men.
I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:
I am counted among those descending to the Pit. I am like a man without strength.
Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
You have laid me in the lowest Pit, in the darkest of the depths.
That thou mayest give him rest from the days of
adversity, until the
pit be
digged for the wicked.
to grant him relief from days of trouble, until a
pit is
dug for the wicked.
For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.
For Your servants delight in her stones and take
pity on her dust.
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender
mercies;
who redeems your life from the
Pit and crowns you with loving devotion and
compassion,
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
He made them also to be
pitied of all those that carried them
captives.
He sent his word, and
healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
He sent forth His word and
healed them; He
rescued them from the
Pit.
The proud have
digged pits for me, which are not after thy law.
Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the
miry pits, never to rise again.
Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
Answer me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide Your face from me, or I will be like those who descend to the Pit.
Let us
swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the
pit:
let us
swallow them alive like
Sheol, and whole like those descending into the
Pit.
He that hath
pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Kindness to the poor is a
loan to the LORD, and He will repay the
lender.
The mouth of strange women is a deep
pit: he that is
abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
The mouth of an
adulteress is a deep
pit; he who is under the wrath of the LORD will fall into it.
For a
whore is a deep
ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow
pit.
Whoso diggeth a
pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
He who digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.
He that by
usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will
pity the poor.
He who increases his wealth by interest and
usury lays it up for one who is kind to the poor.
Whoso causeth the righteous to go
astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own
pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.
He who leads the upright along the path of evil will fall into his own
pit, but the
blameless will
inherit what is good.
A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall
flee to the
pit; let no man stay him.
A man burdened by bloodguilt will
flee into the
Pit; let no one support him.
For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but
woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but
pity the one who falls without another to help him up!
He that diggeth a
pit shall fall into it; and
whoso breaketh an
hedge, a serpent shall
bite him.
He who digs a
pit may fall into it, and he who breaches a wall may be
bitten by a
snake.
Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden
bowl be broken, or the
pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the
cistern.
Remember Him before the silver cord is
snapped and the golden
bowl is
crushed, before the
pitcher is
shattered at the spring and the wheel is broken at the well,
Their bows also shall
dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no
pity on the fruit of the
womb; their eye shall not
spare children.
Their bows will
dash young men to pieces; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the
womb; they will not look with
pity on the children.
It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian
pitch tent there; neither shall the
shepherds make their fold there.
She will never be inhabited or settled from generation to generation; no
nomad will
pitch his tent there, no
shepherd will rest his flock there.
Yet thou shalt be brought down to
hell, to the sides of the
pit.
But you will be brought down to
Sheol, to the lowest depths of the
Pit.
But thou art cast out of thy grave like an
abominable branch, and as the
raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the
pit; as a
carcase trodden under feet.
But you are cast out of your grave like a rejected branch, covered by those slain with the sword, and
dumped into a rocky
pit like a
carcass trampled underfoot.
Fear, and the
pit, and the
snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
Terror and
pit and
snare await you, O dweller of the earth.
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the
pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the
pit shall be taken in the
snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do
shake.
Whoever flees the sound of
panic will fall into the
pit, and
whoever climbs from the
pit will be caught in the
snare. For the windows of heaven are open, and the foundations of the earth are
shaken.
And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
They will be gathered together like prisoners in a
pit. They will be confined to a
dungeon and punished after many days.
And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not
spare: so that there shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the
pit.
And the streams thereof shall be turned into
pitch, and the dust thereof into
brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning
pitch.
Edom’s streams will be turned to tar, and her soil to sulfur; her land will become a
blazing pitch.
Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
Surely for my own
welfare I had such great
anguish; but Your love has delivered me from the
pit of
oblivion, for You have cast all my sins behind Your back.
For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not
celebrate thee: they that go down into the
pit cannot hope for thy truth.
For
Sheol cannot
thank You; Death cannot praise You. Those who descend to the
Pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness.
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are
hewn, and to the hole of the
pit whence ye are
digged.
“
Listen to Me, you who pursue righteousness, you who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were cut, and to the
quarry from which you were
hewn.
The
captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the
pit, nor that his bread should fail.
The
captive will soon be freed; he will not die in the
dungeon, and his bread will not be lacking.
In all their
affliction he was
afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his
pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
In all their distress, He too was
afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. In His love and
compassion He redeemed them; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of
pits, through a land of
drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
They did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD who brought us up from the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and
pits, a land of
drought and darkness, a land where no one travels and no one lives?’
