Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the
Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
And just as the LORD our God had commanded us, we set out from
Horeb and went toward the hill country of the
Amorites, through all the
vast and
terrifying wilderness you have seen. When we reached Kadesh-barnea,
For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
Indeed, the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these forty years, and you have lacked nothing.
Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were
fiery serpents, and scorpions, and
drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

And now ye think to
withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden
calves, which
Jeroboam made you for gods.
And now you think you can resist the kingdom of the LORD, which is in the hands of David’s descendants. You are indeed a
vast army, and you have with you the golden
calves that
Jeroboam made for you as gods.

Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.
Then some men came and told
Jehoshaphat, “A
vast army is coming against you from
Edom, from beyond the Sea; they are already in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, En-gedi).
O our God,
wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast army that comes against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
And he said,
Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king
Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
And he said, “
Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem!
Listen, King
Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this
vast army, for the battle does not belong to you, but to God.

vast army with him, for there is a greater One with us than with him.
Also
Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king
Ahasuerus.
Queen
Vashti also gave a
banquet for the women in the royal palace of King
Xerxes.
To bring
Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to
shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.
to bring Queen Vashti before him, wearing her royal crown, to display her beauty to the people and officials. For she was beautiful to behold.
But the queen
Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very
wroth, and his anger burned in him.
Queen
Vashti, however, refused to come at the king’s command brought by his eunuchs. And the king became
furious, and his anger burned within him.
What shall we do unto the queen
Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king
Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?
“According to law,” he asked, “what should be done with Queen
Vashti, since she refused to obey the command of King
Xerxes delivered by the eunuchs?”
And Memucan answered before the king and the princes,
Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus.
And in the presence of the king and his princes, Memucan replied, “Queen
Vashti has wronged not only the king, but all the princes and the peoples in all the provinces of King
Xerxes.
For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall
despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king
Ahasuerus commanded
Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.
For the conduct of the queen will become known to all women, causing them to
despise their husbands and say, ‘King
Xerxes ordered Queen
Vashti to be brought before him, but she did not come.’
If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That
Vashti come no more before king
Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.
So if it pleases the king, let him issue a royal decree, and let it be recorded in the laws of Persia and Media so that it cannot be
repealed, that
Vashti shall never again enter the presence of King
Xerxes, and that her royal position shall be given to a woman better than she.
And when the king’s decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.
The edict the king issues will be heard throughout his vast kingdom—and so all women, from the least to the greatest, will honor their husbands.”
After these things, when the wrath of king
Ahasuerus was
appeased, he remembered
Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
Some time later, when the anger of King
Xerxes had
subsided, he remembered
Vashti and what she had done, and what had been decreed against her.
And let the
maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of

Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of
Vashti.

Esther more than all the other women, and she found grace and favor in his sight more than all of the other virgins. So he placed the royal crown upon her head and made her queen in place of
Vashti.

vast horde will not help him in battle, when ramps are built and siege walls constructed to destroy many lives.
By the multitude of thy
merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast
sinned: therefore I will cast thee as
profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering
cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
By the
vastness of your trade, you were filled with violence, and you
sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mountain of God, and I banished you, O
guardian cherub, from among the
fiery stones.
So I
prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.
So I
prophesied as He had commanded me, and the breath entered them, and they came to life and stood on their feet—a
vast army.
