A worthless person, a wicked man,
walks with a
perverse mouth,
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
When you
walk, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; when you
awake, they will speak to you.
Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
Can a man
walk on hot coals without
scorching his feet?
I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice,
Leave your folly behind, and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.”
He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
He who
walks in
integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.
They that are of a
froward heart are
abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
He who walks with the wise will become wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.
He that
walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is
perverse in his ways despiseth him.
He who
walks in uprightness fears the LORD, but the one who is
devious in his ways despises Him.
Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
Folly is joy to one who lacks judgment, but a man of understanding walks a straight path.
The just man
walketh in his
integrity: his children are blessed after him.
The righteous man
walks with
integrity; blessed are his children after him.
Better is the poor that
walketh in his uprightness, than he that is
perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is
perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
He that trusteth in his own heart is a
fool: but
whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
He who trusts in himself is a
fool, but one who
walks in wisdom will be safe.
There be three things which go well,
yea, four are comely in going:
There are three things that are stately in their
stride, and four that are impressive in their
walk:
The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the
fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.
The wise man has eyes in his head, but the
fool walks in darkness. Yet I also came to
realize that one fate overcomes them both.
I considered all the living which
walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his
stead.
I saw that all who lived and walked under the sun followed this second one, the youth who succeeded the king.
For what hath the wise more than the
fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to
walk before the living?
What advantage, then, has the wise man over the
fool? What gain comes to the poor man who knows how to conduct himself before others?
Yea also, when he that is a
fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a
fool.
Even as the
fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking, and he shows
everyone that he is a
fool.
I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.
I have seen slaves on
horseback, while princes go on foot like slaves.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart
cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and
walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
Rejoice, O young man, while you are young, and let your heart be
glad in the days of your youth.
Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the
almond tree shall
flourish, and the
grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
when men fear the heights and dangers of the road, when the
almond tree blossoms, the
grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper
berry shrivels— for then man goes to his eternal home and mourners
walk the streets.
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will
walk in his paths: for out of
Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may
walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from
Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.
Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.
Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of
Zion are
haughty, and
walk with stretched forth necks and
wanton eyes,
walking and
mincing as they go, and making a
tinkling with their feet:
For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and
instructed me that I should not
walk in the way of this people, saying,
For this is what the LORD has spoken to me with a strong hand,
instructing me not to
walk in the way of this people:
The people that
walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light
shined.
The people
walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has
dawned.
At the same time spake the LORD by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the
sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy
shoe from thy foot. And he did so,
walking naked and
barefoot.
the LORD had already spoken through Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, “Go, remove the
sackcloth from your
waist and the
sandals from your feet.” And Isaiah did so,
walking around naked and
barefoot.
And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath
walked naked and
barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon
Ethiopia;
Then the LORD said, “Just as My servant Isaiah has gone naked and
barefoot for three years as a sign and
omen against Egypt and
Cush,
Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the
remembrance of thee.
Yes, we wait for You, O LORD; we
walk in the path of Your judgments. Your name and
renown are the desire of our souls.
That
walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to
strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!
They set out to go down to Egypt without asking My advice, to seek shelter under Pharaoh’s protection and take refuge in Egypt’s shade.
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy
solemnity is kept; and
gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.
You will sing as on the night of a holy festival, and your heart will
rejoice like one who
walks to the music of a
flute, going up to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.
He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
He who
walks righteously and speaks with
sincerity, who refuses gain from
extortion, whose hand never takes a
bribe, who stops his ears against
murderous plots and shuts his eyes
tightly against evil—
And an
highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of
holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the
wayfaring men, though fools, shall not
err therein.
And there will be a
highway called the Way of
Holiness. The unclean will not travel it— only those who
walk in the Way— and fools will not
stray onto it.
No lion shall be there, nor any
ravenous beast shall go up
thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall
walk there:
No lion will be there, and no
vicious beast will go up on it. Such will not be found there, but the redeemed will
walk upon it.
And said, Remember now, O LORD, I
beseech thee, how I have
walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And
Hezekiah wept sore.
saying, “Please, O LORD, remember how I have
walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what was good in Your sight.” And
Hezekiah wept bitterly.
What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
What can I say? He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done this. I will
walk slowly all my years because of the
anguish of my soul.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall
walk, and not
faint.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will
walk and not
faint.
Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
This is what God the LORD says— He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk in it:
Who gave Jacob for a
spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have
sinned? for they would not
walk in his ways, neither were they
obedient unto his law.
Who gave Jacob up for
spoil, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have
sinned? They were unwilling to
walk in His ways, and they would not obey His law.
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou
walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame
kindle upon thee.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not
overwhelm you. When you
walk through the fire, you will not be
scorched; the flames will not set you
ablaze.
Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of His Servant? Who among you
walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD; let him
lean on his God.
Behold, all ye that
kindle a fire, that compass
yourselves about with sparks:
walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have
kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.
Behold, all you who
kindle a fire, who
array yourselves with firebrands,
walk in the light of your fire and of the firebrands you have
lit! This is what you will receive from My hand: You will lie down in a place of
torment.
But I will put it into the hand of them that
afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
I will place it in the hands of your tormentors, who told you: ‘Lie down, so we can walk over you,’ so that you made your back like the ground, like a street to be traversed.”
He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.
Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest, lying down in death.
Therefore is judgment far from us, neither
doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we
walk in darkness.
Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but there is darkness; for brightness, but we
walk in
gloom.
I have spread out my hands all the day unto a
rebellious people, which
walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;
All day long I have held out My hands to an
obstinate people who
walk in the wrong path, who follow their own imaginations,
Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
This is what the LORD says: “What fault did your fathers find in Me that they
strayed so far from Me, and followed worthless idols, and became worthless themselves?
The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also
transgressed against me, and the prophets
prophesied by
Baal, and
walked after things that do not profit.
The priests did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD?’ The experts in the law no longer knew Me, and the leaders rebelled against Me. The prophets
prophesied by
Baal and followed useless idols.
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
At that time Jerusalem will be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations will be gathered in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. They will no longer follow the
stubbornness of their evil hearts.
In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave to your fathers as an inheritance.
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths: ‘Where is the good way?’ Then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’
Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.
Do not go out to the fields; do not walk the road. For the enemy has a sword; terror is on every side.
They are all
grievous revolters,
walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.
All are
hardened rebels,
walking around as slanderers. They are bronze and iron; all of them are corrupt.
If ye
oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither
walk after other gods to your
hurt:
if you no longer
oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow other gods to your own
harm,
Will ye
steal, murder, and commit
adultery, and
swear falsely, and burn incense unto
Baal, and
walk after other gods whom ye know not;
Will you
steal and murder, commit
adultery and
perjury, burn incense to
Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,
But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
but this is what I commanded them: Obey Me, and I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must walk in all the ways I have commanded you, so that it may go well with you.
But they
hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but
walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.
Yet they did not
listen or
incline their ear, but they followed the
stubborn inclinations of their own evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.
And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.
They will be exposed to the sun and moon, and to all the host of heaven which they have loved, served, followed, consulted, and worshiped. Their bones will not be gathered up or buried, but will become like dung lying on the ground.
Take ye
heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly
supplant, and every neighbour will
walk with slanders.
And the LORD saith, Because they have
forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither
walked therein;
And the LORD answered, “It is because they have
forsaken My law, which I set before them; they have not
walked in it or obeyed My voice.
But have
walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after
Baalim, which their fathers taught them:
Instead, they have followed the
stubbornness of their hearts and gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them.”
They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
Like scarecrows in a
cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot
walk. Do not fear them, for they can do no
harm, and neither can they do any good.”
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
I know, O LORD, that a man’s way is not his own; no one who walks directs his own steps.
Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
Yet they would not obey or
incline their ears, but each one followed the
stubbornness of his evil heart. So I brought on them all the curses of this covenant I had commanded them to follow but they did not keep.”
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which
walk in the imagination of their heart, and
walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this
girdle, which is good for nothing.
These evil people, who refuse to
listen to My words, who follow the
stubbornness of their own hearts, and who go after other gods to serve and worship them, they will be like this loincloth—of no use at all.
Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have
forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have
walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have
forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
Then you are to answer them: ‘It is because your fathers have
forsaken Me, declares the LORD, and followed other gods, and served and worshiped them. They abandoned Me and did not keep My instruction.
And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye
walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not
hearken unto me:
And you have done more evil than your fathers. See how each of you follows the
stubbornness of his evil heart instead of obeying Me.
And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
But they will reply, ‘It is hopeless. We will follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the
stubbornness of his evil heart.’”
Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to
stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to
walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
Yet My people have forgotten Me. They burn incense to worthless idols that make them
stumble in their ways, leaving the ancient roads to
walk on
rutted bypaths instead of on the
highway.
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and
walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They commit
adultery and
walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns his back on wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
They say still unto them that
despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that
walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.
They keep saying to those who
despise Me, ‘The LORD says that you will have peace,’ and to
everyone who
walks in the
stubbornness of his own heart, ‘No
harm will come to you.’
And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not
hearken to me, to
walk in my law, which I have set before you,
And you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘If you do not
listen to Me and
walk in My law, which I have set before you,
They shall come with
weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to
walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not
stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my
firstborn.
They will come with
weeping, and by their
supplication I will lead them; I will make them
walk beside streams of waters, on a level path where they will not
stumble. For I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is My
firstborn.”
And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:
They came in and possessed it, but they did not obey Your voice or
walk in Your law. They failed to perform all that You commanded them to do, and so You have brought upon them all this
disaster.
That the LORD thy God may
shew us the way wherein we may
walk, and the thing that we may do.
Pray that the LORD your God will tell us the way we should walk and the thing we should do.”
They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.
To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed My instruction or the statutes that I set before you and your fathers.
Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have
sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor
walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his
testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.
Because you burned incense and
sinned against the LORD, and did not obey the voice of the LORD or
walk in His instruction, His statutes, and His
testimonies, this
disaster has
befallen you, as you see
today.”
He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.
He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness instead of light.
They
hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
They
stalked our every step, so that we could not
walk in our streets. Our end drew near, our time ran out, for our end had come!
Because of the mountain of
Zion, which is
desolate, the foxes
walk upon it.
And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.
But she has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against My statutes worse than the countries around her. For her people have rejected My ordinances and have not walked in My statutes.’
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You have been more insubordinate than the nations around you; you have not
walked in My statutes or kept My ordinances, nor have you even
conformed to the ordinances of the nations around you.’
And ye shall know that I am the LORD: for ye have not walked in my statutes, neither executed my judgments, but have done after the manners of the heathen that are round about you.
Then you will know that I am the LORD. For you have neither followed My statutes nor practiced My ordinances, but you have
conformed to the ordinances of the nations around you.”
That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
so that they may follow My statutes, keep My ordinances, and practice them. Then they will be My people, and I will be their God.
But as for them whose heart
walketh after the heart of their
detestable things and their abominations, I will
recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.
But as for those whose hearts pursue
detestable things and abominations, I will bring their conduct down upon their own heads, declares the Lord GOD.”
Yet hast thou not
walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou
wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.
And you not only
walked in their ways and practiced their abominations, but soon you were more
depraved than they were.
Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances. That man is righteous; surely he will live, declares the Lord GOD.
That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received
usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath
walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
He withholds his hand from
harming the poor and takes no interest or
usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will surely live.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they
walked not in my statutes, and they
despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly
polluted: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them in the wilderness, to
consume them.
Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness. They did not follow My statutes and they rejected My ordinances—though the man who does these things will live by them—and they utterly
profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and put an end to them in the wilderness.
Because they
despised my judgments, and
walked not in my statutes, but
polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.
because they kept
rejecting My ordinances, refusing to
walk in My statutes, and
profaning My Sabbaths; for their hearts continually went after their idols.
But I said unto their children in the wilderness,
Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor
defile yourselves with their idols:
In the wilderness I said to their children: ‘Do not
walk in the statutes of your fathers or keep their ordinances or
defile yourselves with their idols.
I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;
I am the LORD your God; walk in My statutes, keep My ordinances, and practice them.
Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they
walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they
polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them, to
accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
But the children rebelled against Me. They did not
walk in My statutes or carefully observe My ordinances—though the man who does these things will live by them—and they
profaned My Sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
vent My anger against them in the wilderness.
Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.
Because you have followed the path of your sister, I will put her cup into your hand.’
Thou art the
anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou
wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast
walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
You were
anointed as a
guardian cherub, for I had ordained you. You were on the holy mountain of God; you
walked among the
fiery stones.
If the wicked restore the
pledge, give again that he had
robbed,
walk in the statutes of life, without
committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.
if he restores a
pledge, makes
restitution for what he has
stolen, and
walks in the statutes of life without practicing iniquity—then he will surely live; he will not die.
Yea, I will cause men to
walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth
bereave them of men.
Yes, I will cause My people Israel to
walk upon you; they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance, and you will no longer deprive them of their children.
