congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
On the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites had come out of the land of Egypt, the LORD spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting in the Wilderness of
Sinai. He said:
Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;
“Take a census of the whole congregation of Israel by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one.
These were the
renowned of the
congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Israel.
These men were appointed from the congregation; they were the leaders of the tribes of their fathers, the heads of the clans of Israel.
And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls.
and on the first day of the second month they assembled the whole
congregation and recorded their
ancestry by clans and families, counting one by one the names of those twenty years of age or older,

Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the
ensign of their father’s house: far off about the tabernacle of the
congregation shall they pitch.
“The Israelites are to camp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance from it, each man under his standard, with the banners of his family.
Then the tabernacle of the
congregation shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp: as they
encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place by their standards.
In the middle of the camps, the Tent of Meeting is to travel with the camp of the Levites. They are to set out in the order they
encamped, each in his own place under his standard.

But those that
encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the
congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
Moses, Aaron, and Aaron’s sons were to camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the
sunrise, before the Tent of Meeting. They were to perform the duties of the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites; but any outsider who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.

Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of
Kohath in the tabernacle of the
congregation.
When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy objects and all their

From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entereth into the service, for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation:
everyone from thirty to fifty years old who came to serve in the work at the Tent of Meeting.
These were they that were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all that might do service in the tabernacle of the congregation, which Moses and Aaron did number according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
These were counted from the Kohathite clans,
everyone who could serve at the Tent of Meeting. Moses and Aaron numbered them according to the command of the LORD through Moses.
From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entereth into the service, for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation,

And this is the law of the
Nazarite, when the days of his separation are fulfilled: he shall be brought unto the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation:
Now this is the law of the
Nazirite when his time of separation is complete: He must be brought to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,
And the
Nazarite shall
shave the head of his separation at the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of his separation, and put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.
Then at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the
Nazirite is to
shave his consecrated head, take the hair, and put it on the fire under the peace offering.
Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.
“Accept these gifts from them, that they may be used in the work of the Tent of Meeting. And give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.”
And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.

cherubim above the mercy seat on the ark of the Testimony. Thus the LORD spoke to him.
And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt gather the whole assembly of the children of Israel together:
Bring the Levites before the Tent of Meeting and
assemble the whole
congregation of Israel.
And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the
congregation: and thou shalt
cleanse them, and offer them for an offering.
After you have
cleansed them and presented them as a wave offering, they may come to serve at the Tent of Meeting.
And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the
congregation, and to make an
atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come
nigh unto the sanctuary.
And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites, to perform the service for the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting and to make
atonement on their behalf, so that no plague will come against the Israelites when they approach the sanctuary.”
And Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, did to the Levites according unto all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.
So Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel did with the Levites everything that the LORD had commanded Moses they should do.
And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.
After that, the Levites came to perform their service at the Tent of Meeting in the presence of Aaron and his sons. Thus they did with the Levites just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation:
“This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years of age or older shall enter to perform the service in the work at the Tent of Meeting.
But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.
After that, they may assist their brothers in
fulfilling their duties at the Tent of Meeting, but they themselves are not to do the work. This is how you are to
assign responsibilities to the Levites.”
Make thee two
trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.
“Make two
trumpets of hammered silver to be used for calling the
congregation and for having the camps set out.
And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall
assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation.
When both are sounded, the whole
congregation is to
assemble before you at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
But when the
congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an
alarm.
To
convene the assembly, you are to sound long blasts, not short ones.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Bring Me seventy of the elders of Israel known to you as leaders and officers of the people. Bring them to the Tent of Meeting and have them stand there with you.
And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto
Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the
congregation. And they three came out.
And suddenly the LORD said to Moses, Aaron, and
Miriam, “You three, come out to the Tent of Meeting.” So the three went out,
And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the
congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of
Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the
congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
and they went back to Moses, Aaron, and the whole
congregation of Israel in the Wilderness of
Paran at Kadesh. They brought back a report for the whole
congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.
And all the
congregation lifted up their voice, and
cried; and the people
wept that night.
Then the whole
congregation lifted up their voices and
cried out, and that night the people
wept.
And all the children of Israel
murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole
congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown before the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel.
And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
and said to the whole
congregation of Israel, “The land we passed through and
explored is an exceedingly good land.
But all the
congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the
congregation before all the children of Israel.
But the whole
congregation threatened to stone Joshua and
Caleb. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to all the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting.
How long shall I bear with this evil
congregation, which
murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they
murmur against me.
“How long will this wicked
congregation grumble against Me? I have heard the complaints that the Israelites are making against Me.
I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this entire wicked
congregation, which has
conspired against Me. They will meet their end in the wilderness, and there they will die.”
And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the
congregation to
murmur against him, by bringing up a
slander upon the land,
So the men Moses had sent to
spy out the land, who had returned and made the whole
congregation grumble against him by bringing out a bad report about the land—
One
ordinance shall be both for you of the
congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an
ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD.
The assembly is to have the same statute both for you and for the foreign resident; it is a permanent statute for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the LORD.
Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the
congregation, that all the
congregation shall offer one young
bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the LORD, with his meat offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one
kid of the goats for a sin offering.
and if it was done
unintentionally without the knowledge of the
congregation, then the whole
congregation is to prepare one young bull as a burnt offering, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and one male goat as a sin offering.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for all the
congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be
forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD, for their ignorance:
The priest is to make
atonement for the whole
congregation of Israel, so that they may be
forgiven; for the sin was
unintentional and they have brought to the LORD an offering made by fire and a sin offering, presented before the LORD for their
unintentional sin.
And it shall be
forgiven all the
congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.
Then the whole
congregation of Israel and the foreigners residing among them will be
forgiven, since it happened to all the people
unintentionally.
And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
Those who found the man gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation,
And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
And the LORD said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death. The whole congregation is to stone him outside the camp.”
And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.
So the whole congregation took the man outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the
congregation, men of
renown:
a rebellion against Moses, along with 250 men of Israel
renowned as leaders of the
congregation and representatives in the assembly.
And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the
congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up
yourselves above the
congregation of the LORD?
They came together against Moses and Aaron and told them, “You have taken too much upon
yourselves! For
everyone in the entire
congregation is holy, and the LORD is in their midst. Why then do you
exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?”
Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel and brought you near to Himself to perform the work at the LORD’s tabernacle, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?
And they took every man his
censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense
thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation with Moses and Aaron.
So each man took his
censer, put fire and incense in it, and stood with Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And
Korah gathered all the
congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the
congregation.
When
Korah had gathered his whole assembly against them at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the glory of the LORD appeared to the whole
congregation.
Separate
yourselves from among this
congregation, that I may
consume them in a moment.
“Separate
yourselves from this
congregation so that I may
consume them in an instant.”
And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and
wilt thou be
wroth with all the
congregation?
But Moses and Aaron fell facedown and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, when one man sins, will You be
angry with the whole
congregation?”
Speak unto the
congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of
Korah, Dathan, and
Abiram.
“Tell the
congregation to move away from the dwellings of
Korah, Dathan, and
Abiram.”
And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
And he
warned the
congregation, “Move away now from the tents of these wicked men. Do not touch anything that belongs to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.”
They, and all that
appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the
congregation.
They went down alive into
Sheol with all they owned. The earth closed over them, and they
vanished from the assembly.
But on the
morrow all the
congregation of the children of Israel
murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.
The next day the whole congregation of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, “You have killed the LORD’s people!”
And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
But when the congregation gathered against them, Moses and Aaron turned toward the Tent of Meeting, and suddenly the cloud covered it and the glory of the LORD appeared.
And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
Then Moses and Aaron went to the front of the Tent of Meeting,
Get you up from among this
congregation, that I may
consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
“Get away from this
congregation so that I may
consume them in an instant.” And Moses and Aaron fell facedown.
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a
censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the
congregation, and make an
atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Moses said to Aaron, “Take your
censer, place fire from the altar in it, and add incense. Go quickly to the
congregation and make
atonement for them, because wrath has come out from the LORD; the plague has begun.”
And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the
congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an
atonement for the people.
So Aaron took the
censer as Moses had ordered and ran into the midst of the assembly. And seeing that the plague had begun among the people, he offered the incense and made
atonement for the people.
And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
Then Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, since the plague had been
halted.
And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.
Place the staffs in the Tent of Meeting in front of the Testimony, where I meet with you.
And they shall be joined unto thee, and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the
congregation, for all the service of the tabernacle: and a stranger shall not come
nigh unto you.
They are to join you and attend to the duties of the Tent of Meeting, doing all the work at the Tent; but no outsider may come near you.
And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Behold, I Myself have selected your fellow Levites from the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD to perform the service for the Tent of Meeting.
And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Behold, I have given to the Levites all the
tithes in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work they do, the service of the Tent of Meeting.
Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come
nigh the tabernacle of the
congregation, lest they bear sin, and die.
No longer may the Israelites come near to the Tent of Meeting, or they will
incur guilt and die.
But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.
The Levites are to perform the work of the Tent of Meeting, and they must bear their iniquity. This is a permanent statute for the generations to come. The Levites will not receive an inheritance among the Israelites.
And ye shall eat it in every place, ye and your households: for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation.
And you and your households may eat the rest of it
anywhere; it is the compensation for your work at the Tent of Meeting.
And
Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and
sprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the
congregation seven times:
Eleazar the priest is to take some of its blood on his finger and
sprinkle it seven times toward the front of the Tent of Meeting.
And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the
heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the
congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a
purification for sin.
But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not
purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the
congregation, because he hath
defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation hath not been
sprinkled upon him; he is unclean.
But if a person who is unclean does not
purify himself, he will be cut off from the assembly, because he has
defiled the sanctuary of the LORD. The water of
purification has not been
sprinkled on him; he is unclean.
Then came the children of Israel, even the whole
congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and
Miriam died there, and was buried there.
In the first month, the whole
congregation of Israel entered the Wilderness of Zin and stayed in Kadesh. There
Miriam died and was buried.
And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
Now there was no water for the congregation, so they gathered against Moses and Aaron.
And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
Why have you brought the LORD’s assembly into this wilderness for us and our
livestock to die here?
And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. They fell facedown, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them.
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
“Take the staff and
assemble the
congregation. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will pour out its water. You will bring out water from the rock and provide drink for the
congregation and their
livestock.”
And Moses and Aaron gathered the
congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we
fetch you water out of this rock?
Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly in front of the rock, and Moses said to them, “
Listen now, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”
And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he
smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the
congregation drank, and their beasts also.
Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, so that a great amount of water
gushed out, and the
congregation and their
livestock were able to drink.
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to
sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this
congregation into the land which I have given them.
But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust Me to show My
holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”
And the children of Israel, even the whole
congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount
Hor.
After they had set out from Kadesh, the whole
congregation of Israel came to Mount
Hor.
And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount
Hor in the sight of all the
congregation.
So Moses did as the LORD had commanded, and they
climbed Mount
Hor in the sight of the whole
congregation.
And when all the
congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they
mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
When the whole
congregation saw that Aaron had died, the entire house of Israel
mourned for him thirty days.
And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the
congregation of the children of Israel, who were
weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the
congregation.
Just then an
Israelite man brought to his family a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and the whole
congregation of Israel while they were
weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And when
Phinehas, the son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the
congregation, and took a
javelin in his hand;
On seeing this,
Phinehas son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, got up from the assembly, took a
spear in his hand,
