And when we had sailed across the open
sea off the coast of
Cilicia and
Pamphylia, we came to Myra in
Lycia.
Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands,
strake sail, and so were driven.
After
hoisting it up, the
crew used ropes to
undergird the ship. And fearing that they would run
aground on the sandbars of
Syrtis, they lowered the
sea anchor and were driven along.
But when the
fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in
Adria, about
midnight the
shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
On the
fourteenth night we were still being driven across the
Adriatic Sea. About
midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land.
And as the
shipmen were about to
flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the
sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the
foreship,
Meanwhile, the sailors attempted to escape from the ship. Pretending to lower anchors from the bow, they let the
lifeboat down into the
sea.
And when they had eaten enough, they
lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the
sea.
After the men had eaten their fill, they
lightened the ship by throwing the grain into the
sea.
And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the
sea, and loosed the
rudder bands, and hoised up the
mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.
Cutting away the anchors, they left them in the
sea as they
loosened the ropes that held the rudders. Then they
hoisted the
foresail to the wind and made for the
beach.
And falling into a place where two
seas met, they ran the ship
aground; and the
forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.
But the vessel struck a sandbar and ran
aground. The bow
stuck fast and would not move, and the stern was being broken up by the pounding of the waves.
But the
centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could
swim should cast themselves first into the
sea, and get to land:
And when the barbarians saw the
venomous beast
hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the
sea, yet
vengeance suffereth not to live.
When the islanders saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “Surely this man is a murderer. Although he was saved from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.”
And he received the sign of
circumcision, a
seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being
uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not
circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
And he received the sign of
circumcision as a
seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still
uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe but are not
circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.
And he that
searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh
intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the
sea, a
remnant shall be saved:
Isaiah
cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the Israelites is like the sand of the
sea, only the
remnant will be saved.
But why
dost thou judge thy brother? or why
dost thou set at
nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment
seat of Christ.
Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you
belittle your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment
seat.
When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.
So after I have completed this service and have safely delivered this
bounty to them, I will set off to Spain by way of you.
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
Jews demand signs and Greeks search for wisdom,
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit
searcheth all things,
yea, the deep things of God.
But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the
seal of mine
apostleship are ye in the Lord.
Even if I am not an apostle to others, surely I am to you. For you are the
seal of my
apostleship in the Lord.
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud, and that they all passed through the sea.
And were all
baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the
sea;
They were all
baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the
sea.
If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
And if a revelation comes to someone who is seated, the first speaker should stop.
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
placed His
seal on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a
pledge of what is to come.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.
For though I made you
sorry with a letter, I do not
repent, though I did
repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you
sorry, though it were but for a
season.
Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not
regret it. Although I did
regret it, I now see that my letter caused you sorrow, but only for a short time.
Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned,
thrice I suffered
shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was
shipwrecked. I spent a night and a day in the open
sea.
In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
In my frequent journeys, I have been in danger from rivers and from
bandits, in danger from my countrymen and from the Gentiles, in danger in the city and in the country, in danger on the
sea and among false brothers,
Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!
And let us not be
weary in well doing: for in due
season we shall
reap, if we
faint not.
Let us not grow
weary in well-doing, for in due time we will
reap a harvest if we do not give up.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth—the gospel of your salvation—you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms,
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
And
grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are
sealed unto the day of
redemption.
And do not
grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were
sealed for the day of
redemption.
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ,
strive for the things above, where Christ is
seated at the right hand of God.
Let your speech be
alway with grace,
seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Let your speech always be
gracious,
seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer
everyone.
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you.
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God,
shewing himself that he is God.
He will
oppose and
exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will
seat himself in the temple of God,
proclaiming himself to be God.
Speaking lies in
hypocrisy; having their conscience
seared with a hot iron;
influenced by the
hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences are
seared with a hot iron.
But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very
diligently, and found me.
Indeed, when he arrived in Rome, he
searched diligently until he found me.
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Nevertheless, God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this
seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from iniquity.”
Preach the word; be prepared in
season and out of
season; reprove,
rebuke, and
encourage with every form of patient instruction.
For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
For perhaps this is why he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back for good—
And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
Above the ark were the
cherubim of glory, overshadowing the mercy
seat. But we cannot
discuss these things in detail now.
Therefore
sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the
sea shore innumerable.
And so from one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the
seashore.
Choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a
season;
He chose to suffer oppression with God’s people rather than to experience the fleeting enjoyment of sin.
By faith they passed through the Red
sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians
assaying to do were
drowned.
By faith the people passed through the Red
Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were
drowned.
But let him ask in faith, nothing
wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the
sea driven with the wind and
tossed.
But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the
sea,
blown and
tossed by the wind.
And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my
footstool:
If you
lavish attention on the man in fine clothes and say, “Here is a
seat of honor,” but say to the poor man, “You must stand” or “Sit at my feet,”
But ye have
despised the poor. Do not rich men
oppress you, and draw you before the judgment
seats?
But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who
oppress you and
drag you into court?
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the
sea, is
tamed, and hath been
tamed of mankind:
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the
sea are being
tamed and have been
tamed by man,
In this you greatly
rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials
Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and
searched diligently, who
prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who
foretold the grace to come to you
searched and investigated carefully,
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did
signify, when it
testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He
predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
Raging waves of the
sea,
foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
They are wild waves of the
sea,
foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved
forever.
I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where
Satan’s
seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein
Antipas was my faithful
martyr, who was slain among you, where
Satan dwelleth.
I know where you live, where the throne of
Satan sits. Yet you have held fast to My name and have not denied your faith in Me, even in the day when My faithful witness
Antipas was killed among you, where
Satan dwells.
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which
searcheth the
reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
At once I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne standing in heaven, with someone seated on it.
And he that sat was to look upon like a
jasper and a
sardine stone: and there was a
rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an
emerald.
And round about the throne were four and twenty
seats: and upon the
seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white
raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and on these thrones sat twenty-four elders dressed in white, with golden crowns on their heads.
And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
And before the throne was something like a sea of glass, as clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, covered with eyes in front and back.
And when those beasts give glory and honour and
thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
And whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and
thanks to the One
seated on the throne who lives
forever and ever,
The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
the twenty-four elders fall down before the One
seated on the throne, and they worship Him who lives
forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the
backside,
sealed with seven
seals.
Then I saw a
scroll in the right hand of the One
seated on the throne. It had writing on both sides and was
sealed with seven
seals.
And I saw a strong angel
proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the
seals thereof?
And I saw a mighty angel
proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the
seals and open the
scroll?”
And one of the elders saith unto me,
Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven
seals thereof.
Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not
weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed to open the
scroll and its seven
seals.”
And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
And He came and took the
scroll from the right hand of the One
seated on the throne.
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the
seals thereof: for thou
wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
And they
sang a new song: “Worthy are You to take the
scroll and open its
seals, because You were slain, and by Your blood You purchased for God those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the
sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power
forever and ever!”
And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the
seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of
thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
Then I watched as the Lamb opened one of the seven
seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say in a
thunderous voice, “Come!”
And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
And when the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”
And when he had opened the third
seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I
beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
And when the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” Then I looked and saw a black horse, and its rider held in his hand a pair of scales.
And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
And when the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!”
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
And when the Lamb opened the fifth
seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony they had
upheld.
And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
Then each of them was given a white
robe and told to rest a little while longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers, were killed, just as they had been killed.
And I
beheld when he had opened the sixth
seal, and, lo, there was a great
earthquake; and the sun became black as
sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
And when I saw the Lamb open the sixth
seal, there was a great
earthquake, and the sun became black like
sackcloth of goat hair, and the whole moon turned blood red,
And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
And they said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the One seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back its four winds so that no wind would blow on land or sea or on any tree.
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the
seal of the living God: and he
cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to
hurt the earth and the
sea,
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, with the
seal of the living God. And he called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to
harm the land and the
sea:
Saying,
Hurt not the earth, neither the
sea, nor the trees, till we have
sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
“Do not
harm the land or
sea or trees until we have
sealed the foreheads of the servants of our God.”
And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
And I heard the number of those who were sealed, 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel:
Of the tribe of Juda were
sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of
Reuben were
sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of
Gad were
sealed twelve thousand.
From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were
sealed, from the tribe of
Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of
Gad 12,000,
Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of
Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of
Manasseh 12,000,
Of the tribe of
Simeon were
sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were
sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of
Issachar were
sealed twelve thousand.
from the tribe of
Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of
Issachar 12,000,
Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.
from the tribe of
Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, and from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.
Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
For this reason, they are before the throne of God and serve Him day and night in His temple; and the One seated on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them.
And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
Then the second angel sounded his
trumpet, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the
sea. A third of the
sea turned to blood,
And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
And it was commanded them that they should not
hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the
seal of God in their foreheads.
They were told not to
harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did not have the
seal of God on their foreheads.
And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,
He held in his hand a small
scroll, which lay open. He placed his right foot on the
sea and his left foot on the land.
And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.
When the seven thunders had spoken, I was about to put it in writing. But I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said, and do not write it down.”
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven.
And
sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the
sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
And he
swore by Him who lives
forever and ever, who created heaven and everything in it, the earth and everything in it, and the
sea and everything in it: “There will be no more delay!
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, “Go, take the small
scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel standing on the
sea and on the land.”
And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God,
Therefore
rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them.
Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the
sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Therefore
rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! But
woe to the earth and the
sea; with great
fury the devil has come down to you, knowing he has only a short time.”
And the
dragon was
wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the
remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
And the
dragon was
enraged at the woman, and went to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And the
dragon stood on the shore of the
sea.
And I stood upon the sand of the
sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the
sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of
blasphemy.
Then I saw a beast with ten horns and seven heads rising out of the
sea. There were ten royal crowns on its horns and
blasphemous names on its heads.
And the beast which I saw was like unto a
leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the
dragon gave him his power, and his
seat, and great authority.
The beast I saw was like a
leopard, with the feet of a bear and the mouth of a lion. And the
dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
And he said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come. Worship the One who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and the springs of waters.”
And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp
sickle.
And I looked and saw a white cloud, and
seated on the cloud was One like the Son of Man, with a golden crown on His head and a sharp
sickle in His hand.
And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy
sickle, and
reap: for the time is come for thee to
reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
Then another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the One
seated on the cloud, “
Swing Your
sickle and
reap, because the time has come to harvest; for the crop of the earth is ripe.”
