If a soul commit a
trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his
trespass unto the LORD a ram without
blemish out of the flocks, with thy
estimation by shekels of silver, after the
shekel of the sanctuary, for a
trespass offering:
“If someone acts
unfaithfully and sins
unintentionally against any of the LORD’s holy things, he must bring his guilt offering to the LORD: an
unblemished ram from the flock, of proper value in silver shekels according to the sanctuary
shekel; it is a guilt offering.
If a soul sin, and commit a
trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in
fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath
deceived his neighbour;
“If someone sins and acts
unfaithfully against the LORD by
deceiving his
neighbor in regard to a deposit or security entrusted to him or
stolen, or if he extorts his
neighbor If they shall
confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their
trespass which they
trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;
But if they will
confess their iniquity and that of their fathers in the
unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, by which they have also walked in hostility toward Me—
Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do a
trespass against the LORD, and that person be guilty;
“Tell the Israelites that when a man or woman acts
unfaithfully against the LORD by
committing any sin against another, that person is guilty
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man’s wife go aside, and commit a
trespass against him,
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them that if any man’s wife goes
astray and is
unfaithful to him
And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be
defiled, and have done
trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the
curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her
belly shall swell, and her
thigh shall
rot: and the woman shall be a
curse among her people.
When he has made her drink the water, if she has
defiled herself and been
unfaithful to her husband, then the water that brings a
curse will enter her and cause bitter suffering; her
belly will swell, her
thigh will
shrivel, and she will become
accursed among her people.
And your children shall
wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
Your children will be
shepherds in the wilderness for forty years, and they will suffer for your
unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness.
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to commit
trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
“Look, these women caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to turn
unfaithfully against the LORD at Peor, so that the plague struck the congregation of the LORD.
And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very
froward generation, children in whom is no faith.
He said: “I will hide My face from them; I will see what will be their end. For they are a
perverse generation— children of
unfaithfulness.
But the children of Israel committed a
trespass in the
accursed thing: for
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the
accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against the children of Israel.
The Israelites, however, acted
unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction.
Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD burned against the Israelites.
Did not
Achan the son of Zerah commit a
trespass in the
accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
Was not
Achan son of Zerah
unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it was not only
Achan who perished because of his sin!’”
And his
concubine played the
whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.
But she was
unfaithful to him and left him to return to her father’s house in
Bethlehem in Judah. After she had been there four months,
And they
transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a
whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.
They were mighty men of
valor, famous men, and heads of their families. But they were
unfaithful to the God of their fathers, and they
prostituted themselves with the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.
So all Israel were reckoned by
genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their
transgression.
So all Israel was recorded in the
genealogies written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. But Judah was exiled to Babylon because of their
unfaithfulness.
So Saul died for his
transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to
enquire of it;
So Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance,
And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king
Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had
transgressed against the LORD,
In the fifth year of
Rehoboam’s reign, because they had been
unfaithful to the LORD,
Shishak king of Egypt came up and attacked Jerusalem
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he
transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
But when Uzziah grew powerful, his
arrogance led to his own destruction. He was
unfaithful to the LORD his God, for he entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
For the LORD brought Judah low because of
Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and
transgressed sore against the LORD.
For the LORD humbled Judah because
Ahaz king of Israel had thrown off restraint in Judah and had been most
unfaithful to the LORD.
And in the time of his distress did he
trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king
Ahaz.
In the time of his distress, King
Ahaz became even more
unfaithful to the LORD.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
Moreover all the vessels, which king
Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his
transgression, have we prepared and
sanctified, and, behold, they are before the altar of the LORD.
Moreover, we have prepared and consecrated all the articles that King
Ahaz in his
unfaithfulness cast aside during his reign. They are now in front of the altar of the LORD.”
And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which
trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to
desolation, as ye see.
Do not be like your fathers and brothers who were
unfaithful to the LORD, the God of their fathers, so that He made them an object of
horror, as you can see.
His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and
graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.
His prayer and how God received his
plea, as well as all his sin and
unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the Seers.
Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people,
transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and
polluted the house of the LORD which he had
hallowed in Jerusalem.
Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people multiplied their
unfaithful deeds, following all the abominations of the nations, and they
defiled the house of the LORD, which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands:
yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this
trespass.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
Then were assembled unto me every one that
trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the
transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat
astonied until the evening sacrifice.
Then
everyone who
trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of the
unfaithfulness of the exiles, while I sat there in
horror until the evening offering.
And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of
Elam, answered and said unto
Ezra, We have
trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, an
Elamite, said to
Ezra: “We have been
unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the people of the land, yet in spite of this, there is hope for Israel.
Then
Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he
mourned because of the
transgression of them that had been carried away.
Then
Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and walked to the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. And while he stayed there, he
ate no food and
drank no water, because he was
mourning over the
unfaithfulness of the exiles.
And
Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have
transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the
trespass of Israel.
Then
Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have been
unfaithful by marrying foreign women, adding to the guilt of Israel.
Remember, I
beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye
transgress, I will
scatter you abroad among the nations:
Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses when You said, ‘If you are
unfaithful, I will
scatter you among the nations,
Shall we then
hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to
transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?
Must we now hear that you too are doing all this terrible evil and acting unfaithfully against our God by marrying foreign women?”
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a
whoring from thee.
Those far from You will surely perish; You destroy all who are unfaithful to You.
For their heart was not right with him, neither were they
stedfast in his covenant.
Their hearts were
disloyal to Him, and they were
unfaithful to His covenant.
But turned back, and dealt
unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a
deceitful bow.
They turned back and were faithless like their fathers, twisted like a
faulty bow.
But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be uprooted.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Like a broken tooth or a foot out of joint is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble.
And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her
treacherous sister Judah saw it.
I thought that after she had done all these things, she would return to Me. But she did not return, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby
backsliding Israel committed
adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of
divorce; yet her
treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the
harlot also.
She saw that because faithless Israel had committed
adultery, I gave her a
certificate of
divorce and sent her away. Yet that
unfaithful sister Judah had no fear and
prostituted herself as well.
And yet for all this her
treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but
feignedly, saith the LORD.
Yet in spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but only in pretense,” declares the LORD.
And the LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than unfaithful Judah.
Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall
slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall
spoil them, a
leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be
torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
Therefore a lion from the forest will strike them down, a wolf from the desert will
ravage them. A
leopard will lie in wait near their cities, and
everyone who ventures out will be
torn to pieces. For their
rebellious acts are many, and their
unfaithful deeds are numerous.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very
treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to Me,” declares the LORD.
Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by
trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
And I will make the land
desolate, because they have committed a
trespass, saith the Lord GOD.
Thus I will make the land
desolate, because they have acted
unfaithfully,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his
trespass that he hath
trespassed, and in his sin that he hath
sinned, in them shall he die.
But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity,
committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the
unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have
blasphemed me, in that they have committed a
trespass against me.
Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: In this way also your fathers
blasphemed Me by their
unfaithfulness against Me.
And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they
trespassed against me, therefore
hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were
unfaithful to Me. So I
hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword.
O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries
whither thou hast driven them, because of their
trespass that they have
trespassed against thee.
To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but this day we are covered with shame—the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, and all Israel near and far, in all the countries to which You have driven us because of our unfaithfulness to You.
Plead with your mother,
plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her
adulteries from between her breasts;
Rebuke your mother,
rebuke her, for she is not My wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the
adultery from her face and the
unfaithfulness from between her breasts.
They have dealt
treacherously against the LORD: for they have
begotten strange children: now shall a month
devour them with their portions.
They have been
unfaithful to the LORD; for they have borne
illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will
devour them along with their land.
But they, like Adam, have
transgressed the covenant; there they were
unfaithful to Me.
For all the unfaithful shall die in their unfaithfulness.
