Subscription [Noun] Webster's Dictionary 1828

1. Any thing, particularly a paper, with names subscribed.

2. The act of subscribing or writing one's name underneath; name subscribed; signature.

3. Consent or attestation given by underwriting the name.

4. The act of contributing to any undertaking.

5. Sum subscribed; amount of sums subscribed. We speak of an individual subscription or of the whole subscription to a fund.

6. Submission; obedience. [Not in use.]

3. A paper to which a signature is attached.

4. The signature attached to a paper.

5. Consent or attestation by underwriting the name.

6. Sum subscribed; amount of sums subscribed; as, an individual subscription to a fund.

7. The acceptance of articles, or other tests tending to promote uniformity; esp. (Ch. of Eng.), formal assent to the Thirty-nine Articles and the Book of Common Prayer, required before ordination.

8. Submission; obedience.

9. That part of a prescription which contains the direction to the apothecary.

10. A method of purchasing items produced periodically in a series, as newspapers or magazines, in which a certain number of the items are delivered as produced, without need for ordering each item individually; also, the purchase thus executed.
