Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of
Anak, dwelled. It had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of
Anak there.
Nevertheless, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of
Anak there.
And there we saw the giants, the sons of
Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
We even saw the
Nephilim there—the descendants of
Anak that come from the
Nephilim! We seemed like grasshoppers in our own sight, and we must have seemed the same to them!”
Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the
Anakims there.
Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts
melt, saying: ‘The people are larger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the heavens. We even saw the descendants of the

A people great and tall, the children of the
Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of
Anak!

Anakim. You know about them, and you have heard it said, “Who can stand up to the sons of
Anak?”
And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the
Anakims from the mountains, from
Hebron, from Debir, from
Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.
At that time Joshua proceeded to
eliminate the
Anakim from the hill country of
Hebron, Debir, and
Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction, along with their cities.
There was none of the
Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in
Gaza, in
Gath, and in
Ashdod, there remained.
Now therefore give me this mountain,
whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the
Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and
fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

anath. So the Naphtalites also lived among the
Canaanite inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-
anath served them as forced laborers.

afflicted in all wherein my father was
afflicted.

Anathoth. Even though you deserve to die, I will not put you to death at this time, since you carried the ark of the Lord GOD before my father David, and you suffered through all that my father suffered.”

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of
Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying,
Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning the people of
Anathoth who are seeking your life and saying, “You must not
prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will die by our hand.”
And there shall be no
remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of
Anathoth, even the year of their
visitation.
There will be no
remnant, for I will bring
disaster on the people of
Anathoth in the year of their punishment.”
Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?
So now, why have you not
rebuked Jeremiah of
Anathoth, who poses as a prophet among you?
Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying,
Buy thee my field that is in
Anathoth: for the right of
redemption is thine to
buy it.
Behold! Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘
Buy for
yourself my field in
Anathoth, for you have the right of
redemption to
buy it.’
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in
Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the
redemption is thine;
buy it for
thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the
courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in
Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in
Anathoth, and
weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.
So I bought the field in
Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel, and I
weighed out seventeen shekels of silver.

withhold some of the proceeds from the land?
And
Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
On hearing these words,
Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened.

In a vision he has seen a man named
Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
Then
Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
But
Ananias answered, “Lord, many people have told me about this man and all the
harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem.
And
Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
So
Ananias went to the house, and when he arrived, he placed his hands on Saul. “Brother Saul,” he said, “the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

stead; who appointed over his father’s accounts, and over all his affairs, Achiacharus my brother

Ananias the great, and of thy brethren.
Then
Tobit said, Thou art
welcome, brother; be not now
angry with me, because I have enquired to know thy tribe and thy family; for thou art my brother, of an
honest and good stock: for I know
Ananias and Jonathas, sons of that great Samaias, as we went together to Jerusalem to worship, and offered the
firstborn, and the tenths of the fruits; and they were not
seduced with the error of our brethren: my brother, thou art of a good stock.
