Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of
bondage:
In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you are to tell him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD
slew all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the
firstborn of man,
and the
firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the
matrix, being males; but all the
firstborn of my children I
redeem.
And when Pharaoh
stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of man
and beast. This is why I sacrifice to the LORD the
firstborn male of every
womb, but I
redeem all the
firstborn of my sons.’
And it shall be for a
token upon thine hand,
and for
frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.
So it shall serve as a sign on your hand
and a symbol on your
forehead, for with a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.”
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest
peradventure the people
repent when they see war,
and they return to Egypt:
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, though it was shorter. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea:
and the children of Israel went up
harnessed out of the land of Egypt.
So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea.
And the Israelites left the land of Egypt
arrayed for battle.
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly
sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you;
and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.
Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sons of Israel
swear a solemn oath when he said, “God will surely attend to you,
and then you must carry my bones with you from this place.”
And they took their journey from Succoth,
and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.
They set out from Succoth and camped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness.
And the LORD went before them by day in a
pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way;
and by night in a
pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day
and night:
And the LORD went before them in a
pillar of cloud to guide their way by day,
and in a
pillar of fire to give them light by night, so that they could travel by day or night.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn
and encamp before
Pi-hahiroth, between
Migdol and the sea, over against
Baal-zephon: before it shall ye
encamp by the sea.
“Tell the Israelites to turn back
and encamp before
Pi-hahiroth, between
Migdol and the sea. You are to
encamp by the sea, directly opposite
Baal-zephon.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall follow after them;
and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh,
and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD.
And they did so.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh
and all his army,
and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So this is what the Israelites did.
And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said, “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.”
And he made ready his
chariot,
and took his people with him:
So Pharaoh prepared his
chariot and took his army with him.
And he took six hundred chosen
chariots,
and all the
chariots of Egypt,
and captains over every one of them.
He took 600 of the best
chariots,
and all the other
chariots of Egypt, with officers over all of them.
And the LORD
hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt,
and he pursued after the children of Israel:
and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
And the LORD
hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out defiantly.
But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses
and chariots of Pharaoh,
and his
horsemen,
and his army,
and overtook them
encamping by the sea, beside
Pi-hahiroth, before
Baal-zephon.
The Egyptians—all Pharaoh’s horses
and chariots,
horsemen and troops—pursued the Israelites
and overtook them as they camped by the sea near
Pi-hahiroth, opposite
Baal-zephon.
And when Pharaoh drew
nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes,
and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them;
and they were
sore afraid:
and the children of Israel
cried out unto the LORD.
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up
and saw the Egyptians marching after them,
and they were
terrified and cried out to the LORD.
And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us into the wilderness to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still,
and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will
shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
But Moses told the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm
and you will see the LORD’s salvation, which He will
accomplish for you
today; for the Egyptians you see
today, you will never see again.
The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward.
But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.
And I, behold, I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians,
and they shall follow them:
and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh,
and upon all his host, upon his
chariots,
and upon his
horsemen.
And I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. Then I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh
and all his army
and chariots and horsemen.
And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have
gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his
chariots,
and upon his
horsemen.
The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I am honored through Pharaoh, his
chariots,
and his
horsemen.”
And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed
and went behind them;
and the
pillar of the cloud went from before their face,
and stood behind them:
And the angel of God, who had gone before the camp of Israel, withdrew
and went behind them. The
pillar of cloud also moved from before them
and stood behind them,
And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
so that it came between the camps of Egypt
and Israel. The cloud was there in the darkness, but it
lit up the night. So all night long neither camp went near the other.
And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided,
And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
And the Egyptians pursued,
and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh’s horses, his
chariots,
and his
horsemen.
And the Egyptians
chased after them—all Pharaoh’s horses,
chariots,
and horsemen—
and followed them into the sea.
And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the
pillar of fire
and of the cloud,
and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
At morning watch, however, the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the
pillar of fire
and cloud,
and He threw their camp into confusion.
And took off their
chariot wheels, that they
drave them
heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us
flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
He caused their
chariot wheels to
wobble, so that they had difficulty driving. “Let us
flee from the Israelites,” said the Egyptians, “for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their
chariots,
and upon their
horsemen.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians
and their
chariots and horsemen.”
And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,
and at
daybreak the sea returned to its normal state. As the Egyptians were retreating, the LORD swept them into the sea.
And the waters returned,
and covered the
chariots,
and the
horsemen,
and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
The waters flowed back
and covered the
chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had
chased the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
That day the LORD saved Israel from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore.
And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
When Israel saw the great power that the LORD had exercised over the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and believed in Him and in His servant Moses.
Then
sang Moses
and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD,
and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse
and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Then Moses
and the Israelites
sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly
exalted. The horse
and rider He has thrown into the sea.
The LORD is my strength
and song,
and he is become my salvation: he is my God,
and I will prepare him an
habitation; my father’s God,
and I will
exalt him.
The LORD is my strength
and my song,
and He has become my salvation. He is my God,
and I will praise Him, my father’s God,
and I will
exalt Him.
Pharaoh’s
chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are
drowned in the Red sea.
Pharaoh’s
chariots and army He has cast into the sea; the finest of his officers are
drowned in the Red Sea.
And in the greatness of thine
excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as
stubble.
You overthrew Your
adversaries by Your great majesty. You unleashed Your burning wrath; it consumed them like
stubble.
And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an
heap,
and the depths were
congealed in the heart of the sea.
At the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up; like a wall the currents stood firm; the depths
congealed in the heart of the sea.
Thou
didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they
sank as lead in the mighty waters.
But You
blew with Your breath,
and the sea covered them. They
sank like lead in the mighty waters.
Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth
swallowed them.
You stretched out Your right hand,
and the earth
swallowed them up.
The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.
Fear
and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.
and terror
and dread will fall on them. By the power of Your arm they will be as still as a stone until Your people pass by, O LORD, until the people You have bought pass by.
Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.
You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of Your inheritance— the place, O LORD, You have prepared for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, Your hands have established.
The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.
The LORD will reign
forever and ever!”
For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his
chariots and with his
horsemen into the sea,
and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
For when Pharaoh’s horses,
chariots,
and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
Then
Miriam the
prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a
tambourine in her hand,
and all the women followed her with tambourines
and dancing.
And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse
and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
And Miriam sang back to them: “Sing to the LORD, for He is highly
exalted; the horse
and rider He has thrown into the sea.”
So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the Desert of Shur. For three days they walked in the desert without finding water.
And when they came to
Marah, they could not drink of the waters of
Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called
Marah.
And when they came to
Marah, they could not drink the water there because it was bitter. (That is why it was named
Marah.)
And the people
murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
And he
cried unto the LORD;
and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute
and an
ordinance,
and there he proved them,
And Moses
cried out to the LORD,
and the LORD showed him a log.
And when he cast it into the waters, they were
sweetened. There the LORD made for them a statute
and an
ordinance,
and there He tested them,
And said, If thou
wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God,
and wilt do that which is right in his sight,
and wilt give ear to his commandments,
and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
saying, “If you will
listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God,
and do what is right in His eyes,
and pay attention to His commands,
and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water,
and threescore and ten palm trees:
and they
encamped there by the waters.
Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the waters.
And they took their journey from Elim,
and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim
and Sinai, on the
fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
On the
fifteenth day of the second month after they had left the land of Egypt, the whole congregation of Israel set out from Elim
and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim
and Sinai.
And the whole congregation of the children of Israel
murmured against Moses
and Aaron in the wilderness:
And there in the desert they all grumbled against Moses and Aaron.
And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
“If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!” they said. “There we sat by pots of meat
and ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into this desert to
starve this whole assembly to death!”
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
Then on the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”
And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “This evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD:
and what are we, that ye
murmur against us?
and in the morning you will see the LORD’s glory, because He has heard your
grumbling against Him. For who are we that you should
grumble against us?”
And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat,
and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye
murmur against him:
and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
And Moses added, “The LORD will give you meat to eat this evening
and bread to fill you in the morning, for He has heard your
grumbling against Him. Who are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the LORD.”
And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole congregation of Israel, ‘Come before the LORD, for He has heard your
grumbling.’”
And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
And as Aaron was speaking to the whole congregation of Israel, they looked toward the desert, and there in a cloud the glory of the LORD appeared.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
“I have heard the
grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘At
twilight you will eat meat,
and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.’”
And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up,
and covered the camp:
and in the morning the
dew lay round about the host.
That evening
quail came
and covered the camp,
and in the morning there was a layer of
dew around the camp.
And when the
dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the
hoar frost on the ground.
When the layer of
dew had
evaporated, there were thin flakes on the desert floor, as fine as
frost on the ground.
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is
manna: for they
wist not what it was.
And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. So Moses told them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.
And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
So the Israelites did this. Some gathered more, and some less.
And when they did
mete it with an
omer, he that gathered much had nothing over,
and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.
When they measured it by the
omer, he who gathered much had no excess,
and he who gathered little had no shortfall. Each one gathered as much as he needed to eat.
And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
Then Moses said to them, “No one may keep any of it until morning.”
Notwithstanding they
hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning,
and it
bred worms,
and stank:
and Moses was
wroth with them.
But they did not
listen to Moses; some people left part of it until morning,
and it became
infested with maggots
and began to smell. So Moses was
angry with them.
And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
Every morning each one gathered as much as was needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away.
And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much food—two omers per person—and all the leaders of the congregation came and reported this to Moses.
And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To
morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD:
bake that which ye will
bake to day,
and seethe that ye will
seethe;
and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
He told them, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘
Tomorrow is to be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So
bake what you want to
bake,
and boil what you want to
boil. Then set aside whatever remains
and keep it until morning.’”
And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses
bade:
and it did not
stink, neither was there any worm therein.
So they set it aside until morning as Moses had commanded, and it did not smell or contain any maggots.
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
“Eat it
today,” Moses said, “because
today is a Sabbath to the LORD.
Today you will not find anything in the field.
And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.
Yet on the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they did not find anything.
And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep My commandments and instructions?
And the house of Israel called the name thereof
Manna:
and it was like
coriander seed, white;
and the taste of it was like
wafers made with honey.
Now the house of Israel called the bread
manna. It was white like
coriander seed
and tasted like
wafers made with honey.
And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an
omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread
wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.
Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Keep an
omer of
manna for the generations to come, so that they may see the bread I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot,
and put an
omer full of
manna therein,
and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
So Moses told Aaron, “Take a
jar and fill it with an
omer of
manna. Then place it before the LORD to be preserved for the generations to come.”
As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
And Aaron placed it in front of the Testimony, to be preserved just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And the children of Israel did eat
manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat
manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of
Canaan.
The Israelites
ate manna forty years, until they came to a land where they could settle; they
ate manna until they reached the border of
Canaan.
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD,
and pitched in
Rephidim:
and there was no water for the people to drink.
Then the whole congregation of Israel left the Desert of Sin, moving from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at
Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
Wherefore the people did
chide with Moses,
and said, Give us water that we may drink.
And Moses said unto them, Why
chide ye with me? wherefore do ye
tempt the LORD?
So the people
contended with Moses, “Give us water to drink.” “Why do you
contend with me?” Moses replied. “Why do you test the LORD?”
And the people
thirsted there for water;
and the people
murmured against Moses,
and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us
and our children
and our cattle with
thirst?
But the people
thirsted for water there,
and they grumbled against Moses: “Why have you brought us out of Egypt—to make us
and our children
and livestock die of
thirst?”
And Moses
cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
Then Moses
cried out to the LORD, “What should I do with these people? A little more
and they will stone me!”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people,
and take with thee of the elders of Israel;
and thy rod,
wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand,
and go.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Walk on
ahead of the people
and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take along in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile,
and go.
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in
Horeb;
and thou shalt
smite the rock,
and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink.
And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Behold, I will stand there before you by the rock at
Horeb.
And when you strike the rock, water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
And he called the name of the place Massah,
and Meribah, because of the
chiding of the children of Israel,
and because they
tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?
He named the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
Then came Amalek,
and fought with Israel in
Rephidim.
And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men,
and go out, fight with Amalek: to
morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men
and go out to fight the
Amalekites.
Tomorrow I will stand on the
hilltop with the staff of God in my hand.”
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Joshua did as Moses had
instructed him
and fought against the
Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron,
and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
As long as Moses held up his hands, Israel prevailed; but when he lowered them, Amalek prevailed.
But Moses’ hands were heavy;
and they took a stone,
and put it under him,
and he sat
thereon;
and Aaron
and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side,
and the other on the other side;
and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
When Moses’ hands grew heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held his hands up, one on each side, so that his hands remained steady until the sun went down.
