And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
When he has brought out all his own, he goes on
ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
All that ever came
before me are
thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
All who came
before Me were
thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not
listen to them.
And the Jews’
passover was
nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem
before the
passover, to
purify themselves.
Now the Jewish
Passover was near, and many people went up from the country to Jerusalem to
purify themselves
before the
Passover.
Then Jesus six days
before the
passover came to
Bethany, where
Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
Six days
before the
Passover, Jesus came to
Bethany, the hometown of
Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.
But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
Although Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still did not believe in Him.
Now
before the feast of the
passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
It was now just
before the
Passover Feast, and Jesus knew that His hour had come to leave this world and return to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the very end.
Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it comes to pass, you will believe that I am He.
Jesus answered him,
Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake?
Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, The
cock shall not
crow, till thou hast denied me
thrice.
“Will you lay down your life for Me?” Jesus replied. “Truly, truly, I tell you,
before the
rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.
And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
If the world hates you, understand that it
hated Me first.
And now, O Father,
glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee
before the world was.
And now, Father,
glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You
before the world existed.
Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, that they may see the glory You gave Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake
before concerning
Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
“Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit
foretold through the mouth of David concerning
Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and glorious Day of the Lord.
For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
David says about Him: ‘I saw the Lord always
before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be
shaken.
He seeing this
before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in
hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
Foreseeing this, David spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did His body see decay.
The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath
glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of
Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has
glorified His servant Jesus. You handed Him over and rejected Him
before Pilate, even though he had decided to release Him.
But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
But in this way God has fulfilled what He
foretold through all the prophets, saying that His Christ would suffer.
And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, the Christ, who has been appointed for you.
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom ye
crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him
doth this man stand here
before you whole.
then let this be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom you
crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands
before you
healed.
For to do
whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined
before to be done.
They carried out what Your hand and will had decided
beforehand would happen.
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not
lied unto men, but unto God.
Did it not belong to you
before it was sold? And after it was sold, was it not at your
disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not
lied to men, but to God!”

For
before these days rose up Theudas,
boasting himself to be
somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to
nought.
Some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be
somebody, and about four hundred men joined him. He was killed, all his followers were
dispersed, and it all came to nothing.

hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in
Mesopotamia,
before he dwelt in Charran,
And Stephen declared: “Brothers and fathers,
listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in
Mesopotamia,
before he lived in
Haran,
Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go
before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we
wot not what is become of him.
They said to Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us! As for this Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.’
Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God
drave out
before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
And our fathers who received it brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations God drove out before them. It remained until the time of David,
Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
who found favor in the sight of God and asked to provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.
Which of the prophets have not your fathers
persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed
before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
Which of the prophets did your fathers fail to
persecute? They even killed those who
foretold the coming of the Righteous One. And now you are His betrayers and murderers—
But there was a certain man, called Simon, which
beforetime in the same city used
sorcery, and
bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Prior to that time, a man named Simon had practiced
sorcery in the city and
astounded the people of Samaria. He claimed to be someone great,
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
You have no part or share in our ministry, because your heart is not right before God.
The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb
dumb before his
shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
The
eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb
before the
shearer is silent, so He did not open His mouth.
But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine
alms are come up for a
memorial before God.

memorial offering
before God.
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from
Cornelius had made
enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood
before the gate,
While Peter was
puzzling over the meaning of the vision, the men sent by
Cornelius found Simon’s house and approached the gate.
And
Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood
before me in bright clothing,
Cornelius answered: “Four days ago I was in my house praying at this, the ninth hour. Suddenly a man in
radiant clothing stood
before me
and said, ‘
Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your gifts to the poor have been remembered
before God.
Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
So I sent for you immediately, and you were kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here in the presence of God to
listen to everything the Lord has
instructed you to tell us.”
Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
not by all the people, but by the witnesses God had chosen
beforehand, by us who
ate and
drank with Him after He rose from the dead.
And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
On the night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, with sentries standing guard at the entrance to the prison.
And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for
gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood
before the gate.
When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that she
forgot to open the gate, but ran inside and
announced, “Peter is standing at the gate!”
And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and
Sidon: but they came with one
accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s
chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was
nourished by the king’s country.
Now Herod was in a
furious dispute with the people of Tyre and
Sidon, and they
convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s
chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for food.
When John had first preached
before his coming the baptism of
repentance to all the people of Israel.
Before the arrival of Jesus, John preached a baptism of
repentance to all the people of Israel.
Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and
wreaths to the city gates, hoping to offer a sacrifice along with the crowds.
And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and
Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
When the

Silas and
dragged them
before the authorities in the marketplace.
And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat
before them, and
rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
Then he brought them into his home and set a meal
before them. So he and all his household
rejoiced that they had come to believe in God.
And when they found them not, they drew
Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world
upside down are come
hither also;
But when they could not find them, they
dragged Jason and some other brothers
before the city officials,
shouting, “These men who have turned the world
upside down have now come here,
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times
before appointed, and the bounds of their
habitation;
From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands.
And when
Gallio was the deputy of
Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one
accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the
synagogue, and beat him
before the judgment seat. And
Gallio cared for none of those things.
At this, the crowd seized Sosthenes the
synagogue leader and beat him in front of the judgment seat. But none of this was of
concern to
Gallio.
And Paul after this
tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him
Priscilla and
Aquila; having
shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a
vow.
Paul remained in Corinth for quite some time
before saying goodbye to the brothers. He had his head
shaved in Cenchrea to keep a
vow he had made, and then he sailed for Syria, accompanied by
Priscilla and
Aquila.
But when
divers were
hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way
before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one
Tyrannus.
Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of
everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, the total came to fifty thousand
drachmas.
And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.
Paul wanted to go before the assembly, but the disciples would not allow him.
These men went on
ahead and waited for us in
Troas.
And we went
before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go
afoot.
We went on
ahead to the ship and sailed to Assos, where we were to take Paul
aboard. He had arranged this because he was going there on foot.
(For they had seen
before with him in the city
Trophimus an
Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
For they had previously seen
Trophimus the
Ephesian with him in the city, and they assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.
Art not thou that Egyptian, which
before these days madest an
uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?
“Aren’t you the Egyptian who incited a rebellion some time ago and led four thousand members of the ‘
Assassins’ into the wilderness?”
Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.
On the
morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him
before them.
The next day the commander, wanting to learn the real reason Paul was accused by the Jews, released him and ordered the chief priests and the whole
Sanhedrin to
assemble. Then he brought Paul down and had him stand
before them.
And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
Paul looked directly at the
Sanhedrin and said, “Brothers, I have conducted myself
before God in all good conscience to this day.”
And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent
straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say
before thee what they had against him.
Farewell.
When I was informed that there was a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once. I also
instructed his accusers to present their case against him
before you.
Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.
When the
horsemen arrived in Caesarea, they delivered the letter to the governor and presented Paul to him.
And
herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
In this hope, I
strive always to maintain a clear conscience
before God and man.
Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
who ought to appear before you and bring charges, if they have anything against me.
Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
Otherwise, let these men state for themselves any crime they found in me when I stood
before the
Sanhedrin,
Except it be for this one voice, that I
cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
unless it was this one thing I called out as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial
before you
today.’”
But
Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said,
Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things
before me?
But
Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem to stand trial
before me on these charges?”
Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
Paul replied, “I am standing
before the judgment seat of Caesar, where I ought to be tried. I have done nothing wrong to the Jews, as you
yourself know very well.
And when they had been there many days,
Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by
Felix:
Since they were staying several days,
Festus laid out Paul’s case
before the king: “There is a certain man whom
Felix left in prison.
To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
I told them that it is not the Roman custom to hand a man over before he has had an opportunity to face his accusers and defend himself against their charges.
Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth
before you, and specially
before thee, O king
Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
I have nothing definite to write to our sovereign one about him. Therefore I have brought him
before all of you, and especially
before you, King
Agrippa, so that after this inquiry I may have something to write.
I think myself happy, king
Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day
before thee touching all the things
whereof I am accused of the Jews:
“King
Agrippa, I consider myself fortunate to stand
before you
today to defend myself against all the accusations of the Jews,
For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.
For the king knows about these matters, and I can speak freely to him. I am
confident that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner.
Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’
(Which he had promised
afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
the gospel He promised
beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures,
(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be declared righteous.
What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
What then? Are we any better? Not at all. For we have already made the charge that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin.
There is no fear of God before their eyes.
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Now we know that what things
soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty
before God.
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the
forbearance of God;
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath
whereof to glory; but not
before God.
If Abraham was indeed justified by works, he had something to
boast about, but not
before God.
In what
context was it credited? Was it after his
circumcision, or
before? It was not after, but
before.
And he is also the father of the
circumcised who not only are
circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had
before he was
circumcised.
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the presence of God, in whom he believed, the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist.
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
Yet before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad, in order that God’s plan of election might stand,
And as Esaias said
before, Except the Lord of
Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as
Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
It is just as Isaiah
foretold: “Unless the Lord of Hosts had left us descendants, we would have become like
Sodom, we would have resembled
Gomorrah.”
But why
dost thou judge thy brother? or why
dost thou set at
nought thy brother? for we shall all stand
before the judgment seat of Christ.
Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you
belittle your brother? For we will all stand
before God’s judgment seat.
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every
knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall
confess to God.
It is written: “As surely as I live, says the Lord, every
knee will bow
before Me; every tongue will
confess to God.”
Hast thou faith? have it to
thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
Keep your belief about such matters between
yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not
condemn himself by what he approves.
Salute Andronicus and Junia, my
kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ
before me.
Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow countrymen and fellow prisoners. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ
before I was.
But we speak the wisdom of God in a
mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained
before the world unto our glory:
No, we speak of the
mysterious and hidden wisdom of God, which He destined for our glory
before time began.
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
Therefore judge nothing
before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will
expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.
Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law
before the unjust, and not
before the saints?
If any of you has a
grievance against another, how
dare he go to law
before the unrighteous instead of
before the saints!
