bless thee
before I die.

tasty dish that I love and bring it to me to eat, so that I may

before I die.”
Bring me
venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and

bless you in the presence of the LORD
before I die.’

venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all

And
Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger
before the
firstborn.

before the older.
For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
Indeed, you had very little before my arrival, but now your wealth has increased many times over. The LORD has blessed you wherever I set foot. But now, when may I also provide for my own household?”
So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my
hire before thy face: every one that is not
speckled and
spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted

testify for me when you come to check on my wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not

And it came to pass,
whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods

With
whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live:
before our brethren
discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that
Rachel had
stolen them.

anyone here, he shall not live! In the presence of our relatives, see for
yourself if anything is yours, and take it back.” For Jacob did not know that
Rachel had
stolen the idols.
And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.

before you; for I am having my period.” So
Laban searched, but could not find the household idols.
Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here
before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge
betwixt us both.

before him to
Esau his brother unto the land of

And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over
before me, and put a space
betwixt drove and drove.
He entrusted them to his servants in separate herds and told them, “Go on
ahead of me, and keep some distance between the herds.”
And he commanded the foremost, saying, When
Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and
whither goest thou? and whose are these
before thee?
He
instructed the one in the lead, “When my brother
Esau meets you and asks, ‘To whom do you belong, where are you going, and whose animals are these
before you?’
And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will
appease him with the present that goeth
before me, and afterward I will see his face;
peradventure he will accept of me.
You are also to say, ‘Look, your servant Jacob is right behind us.’” For he thought, “I will
appease Esau with the gift that is going
before me. After that I can face him, and perhaps he will accept me.”
So went the present over
before him: and himself
lodged that night in the company.
So Jacob’s gifts went on before him, while he spent the night in the camp.

Then
Esau said, “Let us be on our way, and I will go
ahead of you.”
Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over
before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth
before me and the children be able to
endure, until I come unto my lord unto
Seir.
Please let my lord go
ahead of his servant. I will continue on slowly, at a comfortable
pace for the
livestock and children, until I come to my lord at
Seir.”

rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
He told his father and brothers, but his father
rebuked him and said, “What is this dream that you have had? Will your mother and brothers and I actually come and bow down to the ground
before you?”

afar off, even
before he came near unto them, they

hastily out of the
dungeon: and he
shaved himself, and changed his
raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

dungeon. After he had
shaved and changed his clothes, he went in
before Pharaoh.
And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I
awoke.
When they had
devoured them, however, no one could tell that they had done so; their appearance was as
ugly as it had been
before. Then I
awoke.
And he made him to
ride in the second
chariot which he had; and they
cried before him, Bow the
knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
He had Joseph
ride in his second
chariot, with men calling out
before him, “Bow the
knee!” So he placed him over all the land of Egypt.

And he turned himself about from them, and
wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them
Simeon, and bound him
before their eyes.
And he turned away from them and
wept. When he turned back and spoke to them, he took
Simeon from them and had him bound
before their eyes.
I will be
surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him
before thee, then let me bear the
blame for ever:
I will
guarantee his safety. You may hold me personally responsible. If I do not bring him back and set him
before you, then may I bear the guilt
before you all my life.
And God
Almighty give you mercy
before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be
bereaved of my children, I am
bereaved.
May God
Almighty grant you mercy
before the man, that he may release your other brother along with Benjamin. As for me, if I am
bereaved, I am
bereaved.”
And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
So the men took these gifts, along with double the amount of silver, and Benjamin as well. Then they
hurried down to Egypt and stood
before Joseph.
And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
When Joseph came home, they presented him with the gifts they had brought, and they bowed to the ground before him.
And they sat
before him, the
firstborn according to his
birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men
marvelled one at another.
They were seated
before Joseph in order by age, from the
firstborn to the youngest, and the men looked at one another in
astonishment.
And he took and sent messes unto them from
before him: but Benjamin’s
mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they
drank, and were
merry with him.

drank freely with Joseph.

For thy servant became
surety for the
lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the
blame to my father for ever.
Indeed, your servant
guaranteed the boy’s safety to my father, saying, ‘If I do not return him to you, I will bear the guilt
before you, my father, all my life.’
Then Joseph could not
refrain himself
before all them that stood by him; and he
cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.
Then Joseph could no longer control himself
before all his attendants, and he
cried out, “Send
everyone away from me!” So none of them were with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.
And now, do not be distressed or
angry with
yourselves that you sold me into this place, because it was to save lives that God sent me
before you.
And God sent me
before you to preserve you a
posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great
deliverance.
God sent me
before you to preserve you as a
remnant on the earth and to save your lives by a great
deliverance.

And he sent Judah
before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto
Goshen; and they came into the land of
Goshen.
Now Jacob had sent Judah
ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to
Goshen. When Jacob’s family arrived in the land of
Goshen,
And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.
And he chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.
The land of Egypt is
before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of
Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.
the land of Egypt is
before you; settle your father and brothers in the best part of the land. They may dwell in the land of
Goshen. And if you know of any talented men among them, put them in charge of my own
livestock.”

And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of
Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.
When the money from the lands of Egypt and
Canaan was gone, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die
before your eyes? For our funds have run out!”
Wherefore shall we die
before thine eyes, both we and our land?
buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not
desolate.
Why should we perish
before your eyes—we and our land as well? Purchase us and our land in exchange for food. Then we, along with our land, will be slaves to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become
desolate.”
And now thy two sons, Ephraim and
Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt
before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as
Reuben and
Simeon, they shall be mine.
And now your two sons born to you in Egypt
before I came to you here shall be reckoned as mine; Ephraim and
Manasseh shall be mine, just as
Reuben and
Simeon are mine.
And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,
Then he blessed Joseph and said: “May the God
before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my
shepherd all my life to this day,
And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel
bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as
Manasseh: and he set Ephraim
before Manasseh.
So that day Jacob blessed them and said: “By you shall Israel
pronounce this blessing: ‘May God make you like Ephraim and
Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim
before Manasseh.
Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.

Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace.
The cave is in the field of Machpelah near
Mamre, in the land of
Canaan. This is the field Abraham purchased from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site.
For his sons carried him into the land of
Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite,
before Mamre.

And the
midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered
ere the
midwives come in unto them.
The
midwives answered Pharaoh, “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth
before a
midwife arrives.”
