Cain rose up against his brother
Abel and killed him.
And the LORD said unto
Cain, Where is
Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
And the LORD said to
Cain, “Where is your brother
Abel?” “I do not know!” he answered. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
But Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.
And the LORD said unto him, Therefore
whosoever slayeth
Cain,
vengeance shall be taken on him
sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon
Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
“Not so!” replied the LORD. “If
anyone slays
Cain, then
Cain will be
avenged sevenfold.” And the LORD placed a mark on
Cain, so that no one who found him would kill him.

Seth, saying, “God has granted me another seed in place of

By faith
Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than
Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God
testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
By faith
Abel offered God a better sacrifice than
Cain did. By faith he was
commended as righteous when God gave
approval to his gifts. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.
Not as
Cain, who was of that wicked one, and
slew his brother. And wherefore
slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
Do not be like
Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did
Cain slay him? Because his own deeds were evil, while those of his brother were righteous.
Woe to them! They have traveled the path of
Cain; they have
rushed headlong into the error of
Balaam; they have perished in
Korah’s rebellion.
