While Israel dwelt in
Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of
Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?
For three hundred years Israel has lived in
Heshbon, Aroer, and their villages, as well as all the cities along the banks of the

reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
But the commanders of the Philistines were
angry with Achish and told him, “Send that man back and let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle only to become our

Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father’s sake: but I will

And king

advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
Seest thou how
Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.
“Have you seen how

calamity during his days, but I will bring it upon his house in the days of his son.”

All these were reckoned by
genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of

Now after these things, in the reign of
Artaxerxes king of Persia,
Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of
Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,
Many years later,
during the reign of
Artaxerxes king of Persia,
Ezra son of Seraiah, the son of
Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,
These are now the chief of their fathers, and this is the
genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of
Artaxerxes the king.
These are the family heads and
genealogical records of those who returned with me from Babylon
during the reign of King
Artaxerxes:
Some also there were that said, We have
mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might
buy corn, because of the

during the famine.”

Then King

And
Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and
durst not
shew you mine opinion.

timid and afraid to tell you what I know.
Riches and honour are with me;

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet
acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.
I sought to
cheer my body with wine and to embrace folly—my mind still guiding me with wisdom—until I could see what was
worthwhile for men to do under heaven
during the few days of their lives.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.
For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
For who knows what is good for a man during the few days in which he passes through his fleeting life like a shadow? Who can tell a man what will come after him under the sun?
Then I
commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be
merry: for that shall
abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
So I
commended the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be
merry. For this joy will
accompany him in his labor
during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of
Josiah, even into this day.

during the reign of
Josiah until
today.

millet, and
fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and
ninety days shalt thou eat thereof.
But take wheat, barley, beans, lentils,
millet, and
spelt; put them in a single container and make them into bread for
yourself. This is what you are to eat
during the 390 days you lie on your side.
And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath
defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a
menstruous woman,
He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not
defile his
neighbor’s wife or approach a woman
during her period.
In thee have they discovered their fathers’ nakedness: in thee have they humbled her that was set apart for
pollution.
In you they have uncovered the nakedness of their fathers; in you they
violate women
during their
menstrual impurity.
As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
Like the numerous flocks for sacrifices at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so the ruined cities will be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”

blemish daily the seven days; and a
kid of the goats daily for a sin offering.
Each day
during the seven days of the feast, he shall provide seven bulls and seven rams without
blemish as a burnt offering to the LORD, along with a male goat for a sin offering.
In the seventh month, in the
fifteenth day of the month, shall he do the like in the feast of the seven days, according to the sin offering, according to the burnt offering, and according to the meat offering, and according to the oil.
During the seven days of the feast that begins on the
fifteenth day of the seventh month, he is to make the same provision for sin offerings, burnt offerings, grain offerings, and oil.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

Yet hath he not root in himself, but
dureth for a while: for when
tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is
offended.

during the feast,” they said, “or there may be a

“But not
during the feast,” they said, “or there may be a
riot among the people.”

tormented.

The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,)
besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

magnified them.
Although the people regarded them highly, no one else
