wilt thou turn away the
face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for
chariots and for
horsemen?
For how can you
repel a single officer among the least of my master’s servants when you depend on Egypt for
chariots and
horsemen?

face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven,
forgive their sin, and
heal their land.

To
morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the
cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the
brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
Tomorrow you are to march down against them. You will see them coming up the
Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley
facing the Wilderness of Jeruel.

yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to
morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their
faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find
compassion before them that lead them
captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful, and will not turn away his
face from you, if ye return unto him.
For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and sons will receive mercy in the presence of their captors and will return to this land. For the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful; He will not turn His
face away from you if you return to Him.”

bowels slew him there with the sword.

face from him, but
disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and

Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of
Megiddo.
Josiah, however, did not turn away from him; instead, in order to
engage him in battle, he
disguised himself. He did not
listen to Neco’s words from the mouth of God, but went to fight him on the Plain of
Megiddo.
And said, O my God, I am
ashamed and
blush to lift up my
face to thee, my God: for our
iniquities are increased over our head, and our
trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
and said: “O my God, I am
ashamed and
embarrassed to lift up my
face to You, my God, because our
iniquities are higher than our heads, and our guilt has reached the heavens.
Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great
trespass unto this day; and for our
iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a
spoil, and to confusion of
face, as it is this day.
From the days of our fathers to this day, our guilt has been great. Because of our
iniquities, we and our kings and priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the earth and put to the sword and captivity, to
pillage and
humiliation, as we are this day.
Now when
Ezra had prayed, and when he had
confessed,
weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people
wept very
sore.
While
Ezra prayed and made this confession,
weeping and falling
facedown before the house of God, a very large assembly of Israelites—men, women, and children—gathered around him, and the people
wept bitterly as well.
Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance
sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very
sore afraid,
so the king said to me, “Why is your
face sad, though you are not ill? This could only be
sadness of the heart.” I was
overwhelmed with fear
And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until
midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were
attentive unto the book of the law.
So
Ezra read it
aloud from
daybreak until
noon as he
faced the square before the Water Gate, in front of the men and women and those who could understand. And all the people
listened attentively to the Book of the Law.
And
Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered,
Amen,
Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their
faces to the ground.
Then
Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and with their hands
uplifted, all the people said, “
Amen,
Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their
faces to the ground.
And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha,
Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king’s
face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;)
His closest advisors were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha,
Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media who had personal access to the king and ranked highest in the kingdom.
Now it came to pass on the third day, that
Esther put on her royal
apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
On the third day,
Esther put on her royal
attire and stood in the inner court of the palace across from the king’s quarters. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the royal courtroom,
facing the entrance.
Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the
banquet of wine; and
Haman was fallen upon the bed
whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered
Haman’s
face.
Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the
banquet hall,
Haman was falling on the
couch where
Esther was
reclining. The king
exclaimed, “Would he actually
assault the queen while I am in the palace?” As soon as the words had left the king’s mouth, they covered
Haman’s
face.
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will
curse thee to thy
face.
But stretch out Your hand and strike all that he has, and he will surely
curse You to Your
face.”
But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will
curse thee to thy
face.
But stretch out Your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely
curse You to Your
face.”
Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.
But now, please look at me. Would I lie to your face?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He blindfolds its judges. If it is not He, then who is it?
For then shalt thou lift up thy
face without spot;
yea, thou shalt be
stedfast, and shalt not fear:
then indeed you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and unafraid.
Though he
slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
Though He
slay me, I will hope in Him. I will still defend my ways to His
face.
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?
Why do You hide Your face and consider me as Your enemy?
Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
Though his face is covered with fat and his waistline bulges with flesh,
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my
leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my
face.
You have bound me, and it has become a witness; my
frailty rises up and testifies against me.
My
face is foul with
weeping, and my eyelids is the shadow of death;
My
face is red with
weeping, and deep shadows ring my eyes;
He has made me a
byword among the people, a man in whose
face they
spit.
They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
They have turned night into day, making light seem near in the face of darkness.
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
Who denounces his
behavior to his
face? Who repays him for what he has done?
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the
Almighty, and shalt lift up thy
face unto God.
Surely then you will delight in the
Almighty and lift up your
face to God.
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.
Yet I am not silenced by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.
The eye also of the
adulterer waiteth for the
twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his
face.
The eye of the
adulterer watches for
twilight. Thinking, ‘No eye will see me,’ he covers his
face.
He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
He covers the face of the full moon, spreading over it His cloud.
He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
He has inscribed a horizon on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.
He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
He prays to God and finds favor; he sees God’s face and shouts for joy, and God restores His righteousness to that man.
When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
But when He remains silent, who can
condemn Him? When He hides His
face, who can see Him? Yet He watches over both man and nation,
And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do
whatsoever he commandeth them upon the
face of the world in the earth.
Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.
Teach us what we should say to Him; we cannot draw up our case when our faces are in darkness.
The waters are
hid as with a stone, and the
face of the deep is
frozen.
when the waters become hard as stone and the surface of the deep is
frozen?
Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
Bury them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.
Who can discover the
face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double
bridle?
Who can strip off his outer coat? Who can approach him with a
bridle?
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
Who can open his jaws, ringed by his
fearsome teeth?
There be many that say, Who will
shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
Many ask, “Who can show us the good?”
Shine the light of Your
face upon us, O LORD.
Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make straight Your way before me.
He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.
He says to himself, “God has forgotten; He hides His face and never sees.”
For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance
doth behold the upright.
For the LORD is righteous; He loves justice. The upright will see His face.
How long
wilt thou
forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long
wilt thou hide thy
face from me?
How long, O LORD? Will You
forget me
forever? How long will You hide Your
face from me?
As for me, I will behold thy
face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I
awake, with thy likeness.
As for me, I will behold Your
face in righteousness; when I
awake, I will be satisfied in Your presence.
Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the
dirt in the streets.
I ground them as dust in the
face of the wind; I
trampled them like mud in the streets.
Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.
For You will put them to flight when Your bow is trained upon them.
This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy
face, O Jacob.
Selah.
Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your
face, O God of Jacob.
Selah When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
My heart said, “Seek His face.” Your face, O LORD, I will seek.
Hide not thy
face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither
forsake me, O God of my salvation.
Hide not Your
face from me, nor turn away Your servant in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or
forsake me, O God of my salvation.
LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou
didst hide thy
face, and I was troubled.
O LORD, You favored me; You made my mountain stand strong. When You
hid Your
face, I was dismayed.
Make thy
face to
shine upon thy servant: save me for thy
mercies’ sake.
Make Your
face shine on Your servant; save me by Your loving devotion.
Those who look to Him are
radiant with joy; their
faces shall never be
ashamed.
The
face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the
remembrance of them from the earth.
But the
face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to
wipe out all memory of them from the earth.
And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine
integrity, and settest me before thy
face for ever.
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
For it was not by their sword that they took the land; their arm did not bring them victory. It was by Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them.
My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face,
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
Yet for Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
Wherefore hidest thou thy
face, and forgettest our
affliction and our oppression?
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as
thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But now I
rebuke you and
accuse you to your
face.
Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.
For I have
endured scorn for Your sake, and shame has covered my
face.
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.
Hide not Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly!
Turn us again, O God, and cause thy
face to
shine; and we shall be saved.
Restore us, O God, and cause Your
face to
shine upon us, that we may be saved.
Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy
face to
shine; and we shall be saved.
Restore us, O God of Hosts, and cause Your
face to
shine upon us, that we may be saved.
Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy
face to
shine; and we shall be saved.
Restore us, O LORD God of Hosts; cause Your
face to
shine upon us, that we may be saved.
Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.
Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD.
Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the
face of thine
anointed.
Take notice of our shield, O God, and look with favor on the
face of Your
anointed.
LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
Why, O LORD, do You
reject me? Why do You hide Your
face from me?
Justice and judgment are the
habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy
face.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; loving devotion and faithfulness go before You.
