faithless as wadis, as
seasonal streams that overflow,
Surely none who wait for You will be put to shame; but those who are faithless without cause will be disgraced.
But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a
deceitful bow.
They turned back and were
faithless like their fathers, twisted like a
faulty bow.
I
beheld the transgressors, and was
grieved; because they kept not thy word.
I look on the
faithless with
loathing because they do not keep Your word.
The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own
naughtiness.
The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the
faithless are
trapped by their own desires.
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things, but the desire of the faithless is violence.
Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the faithless is difficult.
The wicked become a
ransom for the righteous, and the
faithless for the upright.
The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the
transgressor.
The LORD’s eyes keep watch over knowledge, but He frustrates the words of the faithless.
She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
Like a
robber she lies in wait and multiplies the
faithless among men.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Like a broken tooth or a foot out of joint is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble.
The LORD said also unto me in the days of
Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which
backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the
harlot.
Now in the days of King
Josiah, the LORD said to me, “Have you seen what
faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every green tree to
prostitute herself there.
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby
backsliding Israel committed
adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of
divorce; yet her
treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the
harlot also.
She saw that because
faithless Israel had committed
adultery, I gave her a
certificate of
divorce and sent her away. Yet that unfaithful sister Judah had no fear and
prostituted herself as well.
And the LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than unfaithful Judah.
Go and
proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou
backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am
merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.
Go,
proclaim this message toward the north: ‘Return, O
faithless Israel,’ declares the LORD. ‘I will no longer look on you with anger, for I am
merciful,’ declares the LORD. ‘I will not be
angry forever.
Turn, O
backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to
Zion:
“Return, O
faithless children,” declares the LORD, “for I am your master, and I will take you—one from a city and two from a family—and bring you to
Zion.
Return, ye
backsliding children, and I will
heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.
“Return, O
faithless children, and I will
heal your
faithlessness.” “Here we are. We come to You, for You are the LORD our God.
Oh that I had in the wilderness a
lodging place of
wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of
treacherous men.
If only I had a traveler’s
lodge in the wilderness, I would
abandon my people and depart from them, for they are all adulterers, a crowd of
faithless people.
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I
plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore
doth the way of the wicked
prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very
treacherously?
Righteous are You, O LORD, when I
plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to
contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked
prosper? Why do all the
faithless live at ease?
How long
wilt thou go about, O thou
backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.
How long will you
wander, O
faithless daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the land— a woman will shelter a man.”
Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O
backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?
Why do you
boast of your valleys— your valleys so fruitful, O
faithless daughter? You trust in your riches and say, ‘Who can come against me?’
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal
treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
Your eyes are too pure to look upon evil, and You cannot
tolerate wrongdoing. So why do You
tolerate the
faithless? Why are You silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

treacherous persons: her priests have
polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
Her prophets are
reckless,
faithless men. Her priests
profane the sanctuary; they do violence to the law.
Then Jesus answered and said, O
faithless and
perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him
hither to me.
“O unbelieving and
perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy here to Me.”
He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
“O unbelieving generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to Me.”
And Jesus answering said, O
faithless and
perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son
hither.
“O unbelieving and
perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
Then saith he to Thomas, reach
hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach
hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not
faithless, but believing.
Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.”

unmerciful:
They are senseless,
faithless, heartless,
merciless.

if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
