And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel
sighed by reason of the
bondage, and they
cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the
bondage.
After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites
groaned and
cried out under their burden of slavery, and their cry for
deliverance from
bondage ascended to God.
And God heard their
groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
So God heard their
groaning, and He remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
And I have also heard the
groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in
bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it
repented the LORD because of their
groanings by reason of them that
oppressed them and
vexed them.
Whenever the LORD raised up a judge for the Israelites, He was with that judge and saved them from the hands of their enemies while the judge was still alive; for the LORD was moved to
pity by their
groaning under those who
oppressed them and
afflicted them.
For my
sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
I
sigh when food is put before me, and my
groans pour out like water.
Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.
From the city, men
groan, and the souls of the wounded cry out, yet God charges no one with
wrongdoing.
Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my
meditation.
Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my
groaning.
For the oppression of the poor, for the
sighing of the
needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
“For the cause of the
oppressed and for the
groaning of the
needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.”
My God, my God, why hast thou
forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my
roaring?
My God, my God, why have You
forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my words of
groaning?
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with
sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
For my life is consumed with grief and my years with
groaning; my iniquity has drained my strength, and my bones are wasting away.
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my
roaring all the day long.
When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my
groaning all day long.
I am feeble and
sore broken: I have
roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my
groaning is not
hid from thee.
O Lord, my every desire is before You; my
groaning is not hidden from You.
Let the
sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
May the
groans of the
captives reach You; by the strength of Your arm preserve those condemned to death.
Through my loud
groaning my flesh clings to my bones.
To hear the
groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;
to hear a prisoner’s
groaning, to release those condemned to death,
And thou
mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
At the end of your life you will groan when your flesh and your body are spent,
When the righteous are in authority, the people
rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people
mourn.
When the righteous
flourish, the people
rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people
groan.
A
dire vision is declared to me: “The
traitor still betrays, and the destroyer still destroys. Go up, O
Elam! Lay siege, O Media! I will put an end to all her
groaning.”
The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do
sigh.
The new wine dries up, the vine
withers. All the merrymakers now
groan.
“I have kept silent from ages past; I have remained quiet and restrained. But now I will
groan like a woman in labor; I will at once
gasp and
pant.
O inhabitant of
Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how
gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in
travail!
O inhabitant of
Lebanon,
nestled in the cedars, how you will
groan when pangs of
anguish come upon you,
agony like a woman in labor.”
Thou
didst say,
Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I
fainted in my
sighing, and I find no rest.
You have said, ‘
Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with
groaning and have found no rest.’”
Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her
graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall
groan.
“Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will
punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will
groan.
The ways of
Zion do
mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are
desolate: her priests
sigh, her virgins are
afflicted, and she is in bitterness.
The roads to
Zion mourn, because no one comes to her appointed feasts. All her gates are deserted; her priests
groan, her maidens
grieve, and she herself is bitter with
anguish.
Jerusalem hath
grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her
despise her, because they have seen her nakedness:
yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
Jerusalem has
sinned greatly; therefore she has become an object of
scorn. All who honored her now
despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself
groans and turns away.
All her people
sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to
relieve the soul: see, O LORD, and consider; for I am become
vile.
All her people
groan as they search for bread. They have traded their treasures for food to keep themselves alive. Look, O LORD, and consider, for I have become
despised.
They have heard that I
sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that thou hast done it: thou
wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
People have heard my
groaning, but there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that You have caused it. May You bring the day You have
announced, so that they may become like me.
Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is
faint.
Let all their wickedness come before You, and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions. For my
groans are many, and my heart is
faint.
And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that
sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
“Go throughout the city of Jerusalem,” said the LORD, “and put a mark on the foreheads of the men
sighing and
groaning over all the abominations committed there.”
Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness
sigh before their eyes.

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the
tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall
melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall
faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.
And when they ask, ‘Why are you
groaning?’ you are to say, ‘Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will
melt, and every hand will go
limp. Every spirit will
faint, and every
knee will turn to water.’
Yes, it is coming and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD.”
Forbear to cry, make no
mourning for the dead, bind the
tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy
shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.
Groan quietly; do not
mourn for the dead. Put on your
turban and
strap your
sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips or eat the bread of mourners.”
And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your
shoes upon your feet: ye shall not
mourn nor
weep; but ye shall pine away for your
iniquities, and
mourn one toward another.
Your turbans will remain on your heads and your
sandals on your feet. You will not
mourn or
weep, but you will waste away because of your sins, and you will
groan among
yourselves.
Thus saith the Lord GOD to Tyrus; Shall not the isles
shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded cry, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee?
This is what the Lord GOD says to Tyre: ‘Will not the coastlands
quake at the sound of your
downfall, when the wounded
groan at the slaughter in your midst?
And I will
strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall
groan before him with the
groanings of a deadly wounded man.
I will
strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place My sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, who will
groan before him like a
mortally wounded man.
How do the beasts
groan! the herds of cattle are
perplexed, because they have no pasture;
yea, the flocks of sheep are made
desolate.
How the cattle
groan! The herds
wander in confusion because they have no pasture. Even the flocks of sheep are suffering.
And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping, and with crying out,
insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.
And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping and
groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or receives them
gladly from your hands.
When Jesus therefore saw her
weeping, and the Jews also
weeping which came with her, he
groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
When Jesus saw her
weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also
weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
Jesus therefore again
groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
Jesus, once again deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.
I have seen, I have seen the
affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their
groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.
I have indeed seen the oppression of My people in Egypt. I have heard their
groaning and have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
We know that the whole creation has been
groaning together in the pains of
childbirth until the present time.
And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves
groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the
redemption of our body.
Not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,
groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the
redemption of our bodies.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our
infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh
intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be uttered.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.
For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling,
For we that are in this tabernacle do
groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be
swallowed up of life.
So while we are in this tent, we
groan under our burdens, because we do not wish to be unclothed but clothed, so that our mortality may be
swallowed up by life.
He
seeth with his eyes and
groaneth, as an
eunuch that embraceth a virgin and sigheth.
But when he was ready to die with stripes, he
groaned, and said, It is manifest unto the Lord, that hath the holy knowledge, that whereas I might have been delivered from death, I now
endure sore pains in body by being beaten: but in soul am well content to suffer these things, because I fear him.
