Jesus went before them: and they were
amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
As they were going up the road to Jerusalem,
Jesus was walking
ahead of them. The disciples were
amazed, but those who followed were afraid. Again
Jesus took the Twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him:
And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us
whatsoever we shall desire.
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and declared, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”
But
Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be
baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with?
“You do not know what you are asking,”
Jesus replied. “Can you drink the cup I will drink, or be
baptized with the baptism I will undergo?”
And they said unto him, We can. And
Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am
baptized withal shall ye be
baptized:
“We can,” the brothers answered. “You will drink the cup that I drink,”
Jesus said, “and you will be
baptized with the baptism that I undergo.
But
Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise
lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.

And they came to
Jericho: and as he went out of
Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the
highway side
begging.

Jesus and His disciples were leaving
Jericho with a large crowd, a blind
beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting beside the road.
And when he heard that it was
Jesus of
Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say,
Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
When he heard that it was
Jesus of
Nazareth, he began to cry out, “
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man. “Take courage!” they said. “Get up! He is calling for you.”
And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
Throwing off his
cloak, Bartimaeus
jumped up and came to
Jesus.
And
Jesus answered and said unto him, What
wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
“What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabboni,” said the blind man, “let me see again.”
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
“Go,” said
Jesus, “your faith has
healed you.” And immediately he received his sight and followed
Jesus along the road.
And when they came
nigh to Jerusalem, unto
Bethphage and
Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,
As they approached Jerusalem and came to
Bethphage and
Bethany at the Mount of Olives,
Jesus sent out two of His disciples
And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
The disciples answered as
Jesus had
instructed them, and the people gave them permission.
And they brought the
colt to
Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.
Then they led the
colt to
Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, and He sat on it.
And
Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the
eventide was come, he went out unto
Bethany with the twelve.
Then
Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, He went out to
Bethany with the Twelve.
And
Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee
hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
Then He said to the tree, “May no one ever eat of your fruit again.” And His disciples heard this statement.
And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of
thieves.

scribes, and the elders,
After their return to Jerusalem,
Jesus was walking in the temple courts, and the chief priests,
scribes, and elders came up to Him.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
“I will ask you one question,” Jesus replied, “and if you answer Me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
So they answered, “We do not know.” And Jesus replied, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”
And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a
vineyard, and set an
hedge about it, and
digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to
husbandmen, and went into a far country.
Then
Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a
vineyard. He put a wall around it,
dug a wine
vat, and built a
watchtower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.
At this, the leaders sought to arrest Jesus, for they knew that He had spoken this parable against them. But fearing the crowd, they left Him and went away.
And they send unto him certain of the

Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they

marveled at Him.

Jesus and questioned Him:

Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore
err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Jesus said to them, “Aren’t you mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
And one of the
scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
Now one of the
scribes had come up and heard their
debate. Noticing how well
Jesus had answered them, he asked Him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Jesus replied, “This is the most important: ‘Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.
And when
Jesus saw that he answered
discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that
durst ask him any question.
When
Jesus saw that the man had answered wisely, He said, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one
dared to question Him any further.
And
Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the
scribes that Christ is the Son of David?
While
Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, He asked, “How can the
scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?
And he said unto them in his doctrine,
Beware of the
scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love
salutations in the marketplaces,
In His teaching
Jesus also said, “Watch out for the
scribes. They like to walk around in long robes, to receive greetings in the marketplaces,
And
Jesus sat over against the treasury, and
beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
As Jesus was sitting opposite the treasury, He watched the crowd putting money into it. And many rich people put in large amounts.
And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them,
Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more than all the others into the treasury.
And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!
As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look at the magnificent stones and buildings!”
And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
“Do you see all these great buildings?” Jesus replied. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately,
And
Jesus answering them began to say, Take
heed lest any man
deceive you:
Jesus began by telling them, “See to it that no one deceives you.
After two days was the feast of the
passover, and of
unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the
scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
Now the
Passover and the Feast of
Unleavened Bread were two days away, and the chief priests and
scribes were looking for a
covert way to arrest
Jesus and kill Him.
And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
But
Jesus said, “Leave her alone; why are you
bothering her? She has done a beautiful deed to Me.
And when they heard it, they were
glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently
betray him.
They were delighted to hear this, and they promised to give him money. So
Judas began to look for an opportunity to
betray Jesus.
And the first day of
unleavened bread, when they killed the
passover, his disciples said unto him, Where
wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the
passover?
On the first day of the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, when the
Passover lamb was to be sacrificed,
Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the
Passover?”
And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the
passover.
So the disciples left and went into the city, where they found everything as
Jesus had described. And they prepared the
Passover.
And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve.
And as they sat and did eat,
Jesus said,
Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall
betray me.
And while they were
reclining and eating,
Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you who is eating with Me will
betray Me.”
And as they did eat,
Jesus took bread, and blessed, and
brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it; this is My body.”
And
Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be
offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will
smite the
shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
Then
Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’
And
Jesus saith unto him,
Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the
cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me
thrice.
“Truly I tell you,”
Jesus replied, “this very night, before the
rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.”
And they came to a place which was named
Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
Then they came to a place called
Gethsemane, and
Jesus told His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”
And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
Then
Jesus returned and found them sleeping. “Simon, are you
asleep?” He asked. “Were you not able to keep watch for one hour?
And when he returned, he found them
asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither
wist they what to answer him.
And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy. And they did not know what to answer Him.
And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is
betrayed into the hands of sinners.
When
Jesus returned the third time, He said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is
betrayed into the hands of sinners.
And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh
Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and
staves, from the chief priest and the
scribes and the elders.
While
Jesus was still speaking,
Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests,
scribes, and elders.
And as soon as he was come, he goeth
straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and
kissed him.
Going directly to
Jesus, he said, “
Rabbi!” and
kissed Him.
And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
Then the men seized Jesus and arrested Him.
And
Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a
thief, with swords and with
staves to take me?
Jesus asked the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would an outlaw?
And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
One young man who had been following Jesus was wearing a linen cloth around his body. They caught hold of him,
And they led
Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the
scribes.
They led
Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests, elders, and
scribes assembled.
And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
Now the chief priests and the whole
Sanhedrin were seeking testimony against
Jesus to put Him to death, but they did not find any.
For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
For many bore false witness against Jesus, but their testimony was inconsistent.
And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
So the high priest stood up before them and questioned
Jesus, “Have You no answer? What are these men
testifying against You?”
But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
But Jesus remained silent and made no reply. Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”
And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
“I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also
wast with
Jesus of
Nazareth.
and saw him warming himself there. She looked at Peter and said, “You also were with
Jesus the
Nazarene.”
And the second time the
cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that
Jesus said unto him, Before the
cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me
thrice. And when he thought
thereon, he
wept.
And immediately the
rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered the word that
Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the
rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he broke down and
wept.
And
straightway in the morning the chief priests held a
consultation with the elders and
scribes and the whole council, and bound
Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to
Pilate.
Early in the morning, the chief priests, elders,
scribes, and the whole
Sanhedrin devised a plan. They bound
Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to
Pilate.
And
Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.
So
Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,”
Jesus replied.
For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for
envy.
For he knew it was out of
envy that the chief priests had handed
Jesus over.
And so
Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered
Jesus, when he had
scourged him, to be
crucified.
And wishing to satisfy the crowd,
Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had
Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be
crucified.
And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called
Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
Then the soldiers led
Jesus away into the palace (that is, the
Praetorium) and called the whole company together.
And they
compel one Simon a
Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
Now Simon of
Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of
Jesus.
And they bring him unto the place
Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
They brought
Jesus to a place called
Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull.
And with him they
crucify two
thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.
Along with
Jesus, they
crucified two robbers, one on His right and one on His left.
And at the ninth hour
Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,
Eloi,
Eloi,
lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou
forsaken me?
At the ninth hour,
Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “
Eloi,
Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You
forsaken Me?”
And one ran and filled a
spunge full of
vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
And someone ran and filled a
sponge with
sour wine. He put it on a reed and held it up for
Jesus to drink, saying, “Leave Him alone. Let us see if
Elijah comes to take Him down.”
And
Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
But Jesus let out a loud cry and breathed His last.
And when the
centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so
cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
When the
centurion standing there in front of
Jesus saw how He had breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
(Who also, when he was in
Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
These women had followed
Jesus and ministered to Him while He was in
Galilee, and there were many other women who had come up to Jerusalem with Him.
Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto
Pilate, and
craved the body of
Jesus.
Joseph of
Arimathea, a prominent Council member who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to
Pilate to ask for the body of
Jesus.
And
Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the
centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
Pilate was surprised to hear that
Jesus was already dead, so he summoned the
centurion to ask if this was so.
And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and
wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a
sepulchre which was
hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the
sepulchre.
So Joseph bought a linen cloth, took down the body of
Jesus,
wrapped it in the cloth, and placed it in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.
And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and
Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and
anoint him.
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and
Salome bought spices so they could go and
anoint the body of
Jesus.
And he saith unto them, Be not
affrighted: Ye seek
Jesus of
Nazareth, which was
crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
But he said to them, “Do not be
alarmed. You are looking for
Jesus the
Nazarene, who was
crucified. He has risen! He is not here! See the place where they put Him.
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Early on the first day of the week, after Jesus had risen, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had driven out seven demons.
And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
And when they heard that Jesus was alive and she had seen Him, they did not believe it.
After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
After this, Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them as they walked along in the country.
Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and
upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
Later, as they were eating,
Jesus appeared to the Eleven and
rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.
So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy
womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name
JESUS.
Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus.
And when eight days were accomplished for the
circumcising of the child, his name was called
JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the
womb.
When the eight days until His
circumcision had passed, He was named
Jesus, the name the angel had given Him before He had been conceived.
And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
Led by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him what was customary under the Law,
And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into
Galilee, to their own city
Nazareth.
When
Jesus’ parents had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to
Galilee, to their own town of
Nazareth.
