Then saith
Jesus unto them, All ye shall be
offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will
smite the
shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
Then
Jesus said to them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of Me. For it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
Jesus said unto him,
Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the
cock crow, thou shalt deny me
thrice.
“Truly I tell you,”
Jesus declared, “this very night, before the
rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
Then cometh
Jesus with them unto a place called

yonder.

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them
asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Jesus, he said, “Greetings,
Rabbi!” and
kissed Him.

And, behold, one of them which were with
Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and
smote off his ear.

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
In that same hour said
Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a
thief with swords and
staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
At that time Jesus said to the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would an outlaw? Every day I sat teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest Me.
And they that had laid hold on
Jesus led him away to
Caiaphas the high priest, where the
scribes and the elders were assembled.
Those who had arrested
Jesus led Him away to the house of
Caiaphas the high priest, where the
scribes and elders had gathered.
Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
Now the chief priests and the whole
Sanhedrin were seeking false testimony against
Jesus in order to put Him to death.
But
Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I
adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you,
Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
“You have said it
yourself,”
Jesus answered. “But I say to all of you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a
damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also
wast with
Jesus of
Galilee.
Meanwhile, Peter was sitting out in the

Jesus the
Galilean,” she said.
And when he was gone out into the
porch, another
maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with
Jesus of
Nazareth.
When Peter had gone out to the
gateway, another servant
girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with
Jesus of
Nazareth.”
And Peter remembered the word of
Jesus, which said unto him, Before the

wept bitterly.

But
Jesus gave no answer, not even to a single charge, much to the governor’s
amazement.
Therefore when they were gathered together,
Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or
Jesus which is called Christ?
So when the crowd had assembled,
Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or
Jesus who is called Christ?”
For he knew that for
envy they had delivered him.
For he knew it was out of
envy that they had handed
Jesus over to him.
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus put to death.
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with
Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be
crucified.
“What then should I do with
Jesus who is called Christ?”
Pilate asked. They all answered, “
Crucify Him!”
Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be
crucified.

Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,

forsaken me?

Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “
Eli,
Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You
forsaken Me?”
And
straightway one of them ran, and took a
spunge, and filled it with
vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
One of them quickly ran and brought a
sponge. He filled it with
sour wine, put it on a reed, and held it up for
Jesus to drink.
Jesus, when he had
cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
When
Jesus had
cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit.

terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”

But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for
Jesus, who was
crucified.
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold,
Jesus met them, saying, All
hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
Suddenly
Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came to Him,
grasped His feet, and worshiped Him.
Then said
Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into
Galilee, and there shall they see me.
“Do not be afraid,” said
Jesus. “Go and tell My brothers to go to
Galilee. There they will see Me.”

This is the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
And
straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a
dove descending upon him:
As soon as
Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens breaking open and the Spirit descending on Him like a
dove.
And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
At once the Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness,
Now after that John was put in prison,
Jesus came into
Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
After the arrest of John,
Jesus went into
Galilee and proclaimed the gospel of God.
Now as he walked by the sea of
Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
As
Jesus was walking beside the Sea of
Galilee, He saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were
fishermen.
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
And
straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the
hired servants, and went after him.
Immediately
Jesus called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the
hired men and followed Him.
Then
Jesus and His companions went to
Capernaum, and right away
Jesus entered the
synagogue on the Sabbath and began to teach.
Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou
Jesus of
Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
“What do You want with us,
Jesus of
Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
And
Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
But
Jesus rebuked the spirit. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!”
And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about
Galilee.
And the news about
Jesus spread quickly through the whole region of
Galilee.
And
forthwith, when they were come out of the
synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
As soon as
Jesus and His companions had left the
synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and
anon they tell him of her.
Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and they
promptly told
Jesus about her.
And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
That evening, after
sunset, people brought to
Jesus all who were sick and
demon-possessed,
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Early in the morning, while it was still dark,
Jesus got up and
slipped out to a solitary place to pray.
And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may
preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
But
Jesus answered, “Let us go on to the
neighboring towns so I can
preach there as well, for that is why I have come.”
Then a
leper came to
Jesus,
begging on his knees: “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”
And
Jesus, moved with
compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
Moved with
compassion,
Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!”
And he straitly charged him, and
forthwith sent him away;
But he went out, and began to
publish it much, and to
blaze abroad the matter,
insomuch that
Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
But the man went out and openly began to
proclaim and spread the news. Consequently,
Jesus could no longer enter a town in plain view, but He stayed out in solitary places. Yet people came to Him from every quarter.
And again he entered into
Capernaum, after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
A few days later
Jesus went back to
Capernaum. And when the people heard that He was home,
And
straightway many were gathered together,
insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
they gathered in such large numbers that there was no more room, not even outside the door, as Jesus spoke the word to them.
And when they could not come
nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the
palsy lay.
Since they were unable to get to
Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the
paralytic on his mat.
When
Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the
palsy, Son, thy sins be
forgiven thee.
And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
At once Jesus knew in His spirit that they were thinking this way within themselves. “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?” He asked.
And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
Once again Jesus went out beside the sea. All the people came to Him, and He taught them there.
And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
While
Jesus was
dining at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with Him and His disciples—for there were many who followed Him.
And when the
scribes and
Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
When the
scribes who were
Pharisees saw
Jesus eating with these people, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
When
Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
On hearing this, Jesus told them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
And the disciples of John and of the
Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the
Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
Now John’s disciples and the
Pharisees were often fasting. So people came to
Jesus and asked, “Why don’t Your disciples fast like John’s disciples and those of the
Pharisees?”
And
Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the
bridechamber fast, while the
bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the
bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
Jesus replied, “How can the guests of the
bridegroom fast while He is with them? As long as He is with them, they cannot fast.
And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to
pluck the ears of corn.
One Sabbath
Jesus was passing through the grainfields, and His disciples began to
pick the heads of grain as they walked along.
And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an
hungred, he, and they that were with him?
Jesus replied, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were
hungry and in need?
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
Then Jesus declared, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
And he entered again into the
synagogue; and there was a man there which had a
withered hand.
And they watched him, whether he would
heal him on the sabbath day; that they might
accuse him.
In order to
accuse Jesus, they were watching to see if He would
heal on the Sabbath.
And he saith unto the man which had the
withered hand, Stand forth.
Then
Jesus said to the man with the
withered hand, “Stand up among us.”
And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being
grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
Jesus looked around at them with anger and sorrow at their hardness of heart. Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored.
But
Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from
Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,
So
Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, accompanied by a large crowd from
Galilee,
Judea,
And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should
throng him.
Jesus asked His disciples to have a boat ready for Him so that the crowd would not
crush Him.
And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.
Then Jesus went up on the mountain and called for those He wanted, and they came to Him.
And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
Then Jesus went home, and once again a crowd gathered, so that He and His disciples could not even eat.
And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can
Satan cast out
Satan?
So
Jesus called them together and began to speak to them in parables: “How can
Satan drive out
Satan?
Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Jesus made this statement because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
Then
Jesus’ mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to
summon Him,
And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
But Jesus replied, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”
And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
Once again Jesus began to teach beside the sea, and such a large crowd gathered around Him that He got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people crowded along the shore.
And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
As soon as Jesus was alone with the Twelve and those around Him, they asked Him about the parable.
And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
Then Jesus said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of the parables?
And he said unto them, Is a
candle brought to be put under a
bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a
candlestick?
Jesus also said to them, “Does
anyone bring in a lamp to put it under a
basket or under a bed? Doesn’t he set it on a stand?
And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
Jesus also said, “The kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed on the ground.
And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
With many such parables Jesus spoke the word to them, to the extent that they could understand.
