Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his
kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

fulfill the word of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the LORD
stirred the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his

Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the
kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may the LORD his God be with him, and may he go up.’”

I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own
freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
I
hereby decree that any
volunteers among the Israelites in my
kingdom, including the priests and Levites, may go up with you to Jerusalem.
Moreover thou gavest them
kingdoms and nations, and
didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of
Heshbon, and the land of
Og king of
Bashan.
You gave them
kingdoms and peoples and
allotted to them every corner of the land. So they took the land of Sihon king of
Heshbon and of
Og king of
Bashan.
For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
For even while they were in their
kingdom, with the abundant goodness that You had given them, and in the
spacious and fertile land that You had set before them, they would not serve You or turn from their wicked ways.
That in those days, when the king
Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his
kingdom, which was in
Shushan the palace,
In those days King
Xerxes sat on his royal throne in the citadel of
Susa.
When he shewed the riches of his glorious
kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even an hundred and
fourscore days.
And for a full 180 days he displayed the glorious riches of his
kingdom and the magnificent
splendor of his greatness.
And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha,
Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king’s face, and which sat the first in the
kingdom;)
His closest advisors were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha,
Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media who had personal access to the king and ranked highest in the
kingdom.
And when the king’s decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.
The edict the king issues will be heard throughout his vast kingdom—and so all women, from the least to the greatest, will honor their husbands.”
For he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.
He sent letters to all the provinces of the
kingdom, to each province in its own
script and to each people in their own language,
proclaiming that every man should be master of his own household.
And let the king
appoint officers in all the provinces of his
kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto
Shushan the palace, to the house of the women unto the
custody of Hege the king’s
chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for
purification be given them:
and let the king
appoint commissioners in each province of his
kingdom to
assemble all the beautiful young women into the
harem at the citadel of
Susa. Let them be placed under the care of Hegai, the king’s
eunuch in charge of the women, and let them be given beauty treatments.
And he thought
scorn to lay hands on
Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of
Mordecai: wherefore
Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole
kingdom of
Ahasuerus, even the people of
Mordecai.
And when he learned the identity of
Mordecai’s people, he
scorned the notion of laying hands on
Mordecai alone. Instead, he sought to destroy all of
Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the
kingdom of
Xerxes.
And
Haman said unto king
Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and
dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy
kingdom; and their laws are
diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them.
Then
Haman informed King
Xerxes, “There is a certain people scattered and
dispersed among the peoples of every province of your
kingdom. Their laws are different from
everyone else’s, and they do not obey the king’s laws. So it is not in the king’s best interest to
tolerate them.
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there
enlargement and
deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the
kingdom for such a time as this?
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and
deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows if perhaps you have come to the
kingdom for such a time as this?”
Then said the king unto her, What
wilt thou, queen
Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the
kingdom.
“What is it, Queen
Esther?” the king inquired. “What is your request? Even up to half the
kingdom, it will be given to you.”
And the king said unto
Esther at the
banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the
kingdom it shall be performed.
And as they
drank their wine, the king said to
Esther, “What is your petition? It will be given to you. What is your request? Even up to half the
kingdom, it will be fulfilled.”
And the king said again unto
Esther on the second day at the
banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen
Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the
kingdom.
and as they
drank their wine on that second day, the king asked once more, “Queen
Esther, what is your petition? It will be given to you. What is your request? Even up to half the
kingdom, it will be fulfilled.”
And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the
kingdom of
Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,
And
Mordecai sent letters with words of peace and truth to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of the
kingdom of
Xerxes,
For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations.
For dominion belongs to the LORD and He rules over the nations.
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the
sceptre of thy
kingdom is a right
sceptre.
Your throne, O God, endures
forever and ever, and justice is the
scepter of Your
kingdom.
The heathen
raged, the
kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
Nations
rage,
kingdoms crumble; the earth melts when He lifts His voice.
Sing unto God, ye
kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord;
Selah:
Sing to God, O
kingdoms of the earth; sing praises to the Lord—
Selah Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, on the kingdoms that refuse to call on Your name,
When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.
when peoples and
kingdoms assemble to serve the LORD.
The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.
When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
they
wandered from nation to nation, from one
kingdom to another.
They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;
They will tell of the glory of Your kingdom and speak of Your might,
To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.
to make known to men Your mighty acts and the glorious
splendor of Your
kingdom.
Thy
kingdom is an
everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.
Your
kingdom is an
everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful in all His words and kind in all His actions.
For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor.
For the youth has come from the prison to the
kingship, though he was born poor in his own
kingdom.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his
kingdom, to establish and
sustain it with justice and righteousness from that time and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will
accomplish this.
As my hand hath found the
kingdoms of the idols, and whose
graven images did
excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
As my hand seized the
idolatrous kingdoms whose images surpassed those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a
tumultuous noise of the
kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
Listen, a
tumult on the mountains, like that of a great multitude!
Listen, an
uproar among the
kingdoms, like nations gathered together! The LORD of Hosts is
mobilizing an army for war.
And Babylon, the glory of
kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’
excellency, shall be as when God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
And Babylon, the
jewel of the
kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be overthrown by God like
Sodom and
Gomorrah.
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to
tremble, that did
shake kingdoms;
Those who see you will
stare; they will
ponder your fate: “Is this the man who
shook the earth and made the
kingdoms tremble,
The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the
kingdom from Damascus, and the
remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the sovereignty from Damascus. The
remnant of
Aram will be like the
splendor of the Israelites,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.
“So I will
incite Egyptian against Egyptian; brother will fight against brother,
neighbor against
neighbor, city against city, and
kingdom against
kingdom.
He stretched out his hand over the sea, he
shook the
kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.
The LORD has stretched out His hand over the sea; He has made
kingdoms tremble. He has given a command that the strongholds of
Canaan be destroyed.
And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her
hire, and shall commit
fornication with all the
kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.
And at the end of seventy years, the LORD will restore Tyre. Then she will return to
hire as a
prostitute and sell herself to all the
kingdoms on the face of the earth.
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
No nobles will be left to
proclaim a king, and all her princes will come to nothing.
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
“O LORD of Hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the
cherubim, You alone are God over all the
kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.
And now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
“Sit in silence and go into darkness, O Daughter of
Chaldea. For you will no longer be called the queen of
kingdoms.
For the nation and
kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish;
yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly destroyed.
See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
See, I have appointed you
today over nations and
kingdoms to
uproot and
tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and plant.”
For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
For I am about to
summon all the clans and
kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD. “Their kings will come and set up their thrones at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem. They will attack all her surrounding walls and all the other cities of Judah.
Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee
doth it
appertain:
forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their
kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
Who would not fear You, O King of nations? This is Your due. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You.
And I will cause them to be removed into all
kingdoms of the earth, because of
Manasseh the son of
Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
I will make them a
horror to all the
kingdoms of the earth because of what
Manasseh son of
Hezekiah king of Judah did in Jerusalem.
At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a
kingdom, to
pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
At any time I might
announce that a nation or
kingdom will be uprooted,
torn down, and destroyed.
And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
And if at another time I
announce that I will build up and establish a nation or
kingdom,
And I will deliver them to be removed into all the
kingdoms of the earth for their
hurt, to be a reproach and a
proverb, a
taunt and a
curse, in all places
whither I shall drive them.
And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
all the kings of the north, both near and far, one after another—all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshach will drink it too.
And it shall come to pass, that the nation and
kingdom which will not serve the same
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I
punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the
pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
As for the nation or
kingdom that does not serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and does not place its neck under his yoke, I will
punish that nation by sword and famine and plague, declares the LORD, until I have destroyed it by his hand.
The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old
prophesied both against many countries, and against great
kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of
pestilence.
The prophets of old who preceded you and me
prophesied war,
disaster, and plague against many lands and great
kingdoms.
And I will
persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the
pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the
kingdoms of the earth, to be a
curse, and an
astonishment, and an
hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations
whither I have driven them:
I will pursue them with sword and famine and plague. I will make them a
horror to all the
kingdoms of the earth—a
curse, a
desolation, and an object of
scorn and reproach among all the nations to which I
banish them.
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the
kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, all his army, all the earthly
kingdoms under his control, and all the other nations were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not
hearkened unto me, in
proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I
proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the
pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the
kingdoms of the earth.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each man for his brother and for his
neighbor. So now I
proclaim freedom for you, declares the LORD—freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will make you a
horror to all the
kingdoms of the earth.
Concerning
Kedar, and concerning the
kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall
smite, thus saith the LORD; Arise ye, go up to
Kedar, and
spoil the men of the east.
Concerning
Kedar and the
kingdoms of Hazor, which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated, this is what the LORD says: “Rise up, advance against
Kedar, and destroy the people of the east!
Thou art my battle
axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy
kingdoms;
“You are My war club, My weapon for battle. With you I
shatter nations; with you I bring
kingdoms to ruin.
Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the
trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the
kingdoms of
Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz;
appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.
“Raise a
banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn among the nations! Prepare the nations against her.
Summon the
kingdoms against her—
Ararat, Minni, and
Ashkenaz.
Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like
swarming locusts.
The Lord hath
swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not
pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath
polluted the
kingdom and the princes thereof.
Without
pity the Lord has
swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob. In His wrath He has
demolished the fortified cities of the Daughter of Judah. He brought to the ground and
defiled her
kingdom and its princes.
Thus
wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy
raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and
broidered work; thou
didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou
wast exceeding beautiful, and thou
didst prosper into a
kingdom.
So you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was made of fine linen, silk, and
embroidered cloth. You
ate fine flour, honey, and oil. You became very beautiful and rose to be queen.
That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.
so that the
kingdom would be brought low, unable to lift itself up,
surviving only by keeping his covenant.
And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their
habitation; and they shall be there a base
kingdom.
I will restore Egypt from captivity and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin. There they will be a lowly kingdom.
It shall be the basest of the
kingdoms; neither shall it
exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations.
Egypt will be the lowliest of
kingdoms and will never again
exalt itself above the nations. For I will diminish Egypt so that it will never again rule over the nations.
And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel, and one king will rule over all of them. Then they will no longer be two nations and will never again be divided into two kingdoms.
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom.
Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given sovereignty, power, strength, and glory.
And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
But after you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule the whole earth.
And the fourth
kingdom shall be strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and
bruise.
Finally, there will be a fourth
kingdom as strong as iron; for iron
shatters and crushes all things, and like iron that crushes all things, it will
shatter and
crush all the others.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the
kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron,
forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with
miry clay.
And just as you saw that the feet and toes were made partly of fired clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom, yet some of the strength of iron will be in it—just as you saw the iron mixed with clay.
And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle.
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a
kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the
kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and
consume all these
kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a
kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will
shatter all these
kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself stand
forever.
How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his
kingdom is an
everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.
How great are His signs, how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; His dominion endures from generation to generation.
This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the
kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
This decision is the decree of the watchers, the
verdict declared by the holy ones, so that the living will know that the Most High rules over the
kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes, setting over it the lowliest of men.’
This dream I king
Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof,
forasmuch as all the wise men of my
kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
This is the dream that I, King
Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because none of the wise men of my
kingdom can
interpret it for me. But you are able, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the
kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will feed on grass like an ox and be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the
kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.
And whereas they commanded to leave the
stump of the tree roots; thy
kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.
As for the command to leave the
stump of the tree with its roots, your
kingdom will be restored to you as soon as you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
Twelve months later, as he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon,
The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
the king
exclaimed, “Is this not Babylon the Great, which I myself have built by the might of my power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?”
While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king
Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The
kingdom is departed from thee.
While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: “It is decreed to you, King
Nebuchadnezzar, that the
kingdom has departed from you.
And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the
kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will.
You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox. And seven times will pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.”
And at the end of the days I
Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and his
kingdom is from generation to generation:
But at the end of those days I,
Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my
sanity was restored to me. Then I praised the Most High, and I honored and
glorified Him who lives
forever: “For His dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and His
kingdom endures from generation to generation.
At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
At the same time my
sanity was restored, my honor and
splendor returned to me for the glory of my
kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne, and
surpassing greatness was added to me.
The king
cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon,
Whosoever shall read this writing, and
shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the
kingdom.
The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers, and diviners to be brought in, and he said to these wise men of Babylon, “
Whoever reads this inscription and tells me its interpretation will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the
kingdom.”
There is a man in thy
kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king
Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
There is a man in your
kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the days of your father he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King
Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your own father, the king,
And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and
dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the
kingdom.
But I have heard about you, that you are able to give interpretations and
solve difficult problems. Therefore, if you can read this inscription and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the
kingdom.”
O thou king, the most high God gave
Nebuchadnezzar thy father a
kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
As for you, O king, the Most High God gave your father
Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness, glory and honor.
And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild
asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the
dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the
kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it
whomsoever he will.
He was driven away from mankind, and his mind was like that of a beast. He lived with the wild
donkeys and
ate grass like an ox, and his body was
drenched with the
dew of heaven until he acknowledged that the Most High God rules over the
kingdom of mankind, setting over it whom He wishes.
This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
And this is the interpretation of the message: MENE means that God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.
PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
PERES means that your kingdom has been divided and given over to the Medes and Persians.”
Then commanded
Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a
proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the
kingdom.
Then
Belshazzar gave the command, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a gold chain around his neck, and proclaimed him the third highest ruler in the
kingdom.
And
Darius the Median took the
kingdom, being about
threescore and two years old.
and
Darius the
Mede received the
kingdom at the age of sixty-two.
It pleased
Darius to set over the
kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole
kingdom;
Now it pleased
Darius to
appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the
kingdom,
Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
Soon, by his extraordinary spirit, Daniel distinguished himself among the administrators and satraps. So the king
planned to set him over the whole
kingdom.
Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the
kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault;
forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
Thus the administrators and satraps sought a charge against Daniel concerning the
kingdom, but they could find no charge or corruption, because he was
trustworthy, and no
negligence or corruption was found in him.
All the presidents of the
kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that
whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
All the royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors have agreed that the king should establish an
ordinance and
enforce a decree that for thirty days
anyone who petitions any god or man except you, O king, will be thrown into the den of lions.
