And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him.
Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.
Then David said, “No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the
LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of the
LORD and to minister before Him
forever.”
And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it.
And David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.
And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites:
sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the
LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.
And he said to them, “You are the heads of the
Levitical families. You and your relatives must
consecrate yourselves so that you may bring the ark of the
LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.
For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.
It was because you Levites were not with us the first time that the
LORD our God
burst forth in anger against us. For we did not
consult Him about the proper order.”
So the priests and the Levites
sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the
LORD God of Israel.
So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the
staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the
LORD.
And the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.
So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the
LORD out of the house of Obed-
edom with joy.
So David, the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands went with
rejoicing to bring the ark of the covenant of the
LORD from the house of Obed-
edom.
And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bullocks and seven rams.
And because God helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the
LORD with
shouting, and with sound of the
cornet, and with
trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with
psalteries and harps.
So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the
LORD with
shouting, with the sounding of rams’ horns and
trumpets, and with cymbals and the music of harps and lyres.
And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the
LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she
despised him in her heart.
As the ark of the covenant of the
LORD was entering the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from a window and saw King David dancing and
celebrating, and she
despised him in her heart.
And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the
LORD, and to record, and to
thank and praise the
LORD God of Israel:
David appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the
LORD, to
celebrate, to give
thanks, and to praise the
LORD, the God of Israel.
Then on that day David delivered first this
psalm to
thank the
LORD into the hand of
Asaph and his brethren.
On that day David first committed to
Asaph and his brothers this song of
thanksgiving to the
LORD:
Give
thanks unto the
LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
“Give
thanks to the
LORD; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the nations.
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them
rejoice that seek the
LORD.
Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the
LORD rejoice.
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.
He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
He is the LORD our God; His judgments carry throughout the earth.
Sing unto the
LORD, all the earth;
shew forth from day to day his salvation.
Sing to the
LORD, all the earth.
Proclaim His salvation day after day.
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods.
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
For all the gods of the nations are idols, but it is the LORD who made the heavens.
Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the
LORD, O families of the nations,
ascribe to the
LORD glory and strength.
Give unto the
LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the
LORD in the beauty of
holiness.
Ascribe to the
LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering and come before Him. Worship the
LORD in the
splendor of His
holiness;
Let the heavens be
glad, and let the earth
rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The
LORD reigneth.
Let the heavens be
glad, and the earth
rejoice. Let them say among the nations, ‘The
LORD reigns!’
Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth.
O give
thanks unto the
LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
Give
thanks to the
LORD, for He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.
Blessed be the
LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said,
Amen, and praised the
LORD.
Blessed be the
LORD, the God of Israel, from
everlasting to
everlasting.” Then all the people said, “
Amen!” and “Praise the
LORD!”
So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the
LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required:
So David left
Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the
LORD, to minister there regularly according to the daily requirements,
And
Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the
LORD in the high place that was at
Gibeon,
And David left
Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the
LORD at the high place in
Gibeon To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;
to regularly present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offerings, morning and evening, according to all that was written in the Law of the LORD, which He had commanded Israel to keep.
And with them Heman and
Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give
thanks to the
LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever;
With them were Heman,
Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give
thanks to the
LORD, for “His loving devotion endures
forever.”
Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to
Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the
LORD remaineth under curtains.
After David had settled into his palace, he said to
Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of
cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the
LORD is under a tent.”
Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:
“Go and tell My servant David that this is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build Me a house in which to dwell.
Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, I took thee from the
sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
Now then, you are to tell My servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel.
And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will
subdue all thine enemies.
Furthermore I tell thee that the
LORD will build thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. And I will
subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the
LORD will build a house for you.
And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
Then King David went in, sat before the LORD, and said, “Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?
And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
O LORD. For the sake of Your servant and according to Your own heart, You have accomplished this great thing and revealed all Your greatness.
O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
O LORD, there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
For thy people Israel
didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou,
LORD, becamest their God.
For You have made Your people Israel Your very own
forever, and You, O
LORD, have become their God.
Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.
And now, O
LORD, let the word You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house be established
forever. Do as You have promised,
Let it even be established, that thy name may be
magnified for ever, saying, The
LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.
so that Your name will be established and
magnified forever when it is said, ‘The
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel.’ And may the house of Your servant David be established before You.
And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
And now, O LORD, You are God! And You have promised this goodness to Your servant.
Now therefore let it please thee to
bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O
LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.
So now You have been pleased to
bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue
forever before You. For You, O
LORD, have blessed it, and it will be blessed
forever.”
Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus the
LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the
LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
Them also king David dedicated unto the
LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from
Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of
Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
and King David dedicated these to the
LORD, along with the silver and gold he had carried off from all these nations—from
Edom and Moab, and from the
Ammonites, Philistines, and
Amalekites.
And he put garrisons in
Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the
LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
He placed garrisons in
Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the
LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
Be of good courage, and let us
behave ourselves
valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the
LORD do that which is good in his sight.
Be strong and let us fight
bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the
LORD do what is good in His sight.”
And
Joab answered, The
LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my
lord the king, are they not all my
lord’s servants? why then
doth my
lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of
trespass to Israel?
But
Joab replied, “May the
LORD multiply His troops a hundred times over. My
lord the king, are they not all servants of my
lord? Why does my
lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
And the
LORD spake unto
Gad, David’s
seer, saying,
Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
“Go and tell David that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am offering you three options. Choose one of them, and I will carry it out against you.’”
So
Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the
LORD, Choose thee
So
Gad went and said to David, “This is what the
LORD says: ‘You must choose
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the
LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the
LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the
LORD—days of plague upon the land, with the angel of the
LORD ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the
LORD; for very great are his
mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply distressed. Please, let me fall into the hand of the
LORD, for His
mercies are very great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”
So the
LORD sent
pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.
And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the
LORD beheld, and he
repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the
LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem, but as the angel was doing so, the
LORD saw it and relented from the
calamity, and He said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the angel of the
LORD was standing by the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the
LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in
sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
When David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the
LORD standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem, David and the elders, clothed in
sackcloth, fell facedown.
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O
LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O
LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
Then the angel of the
LORD commanded
Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the
LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then the angel of the
LORD ordered
Gad to tell David to go up and build an altar to the
LORD on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And David went up at the saying of
Gad, which he spake in the name of the
LORD.
So David went up at the word that
Gad had spoken in the name of the
LORD.
Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the site of this
threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the
LORD. Sell it to me for the full price, so that the plague upon the people may be
halted.”
And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my
lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the
threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.
Ornan said to David, “My
lord the king may take whatever seems good. Look, I will give the oxen for the burnt offerings, the
threshing sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering—I will give it all.”
And king David said to Ornan,
Nay; but I will
verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the
LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
“No,” replied King David, “I
insist on paying the full price, for I will not take for the
LORD what belongs to you, nor will I offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called upon the LORD, who answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
And the
LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the
sheath thereof.
Then the
LORD spoke to the angel, who put his sword back into its
sheath.
At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
At that time, when David saw that the
LORD had answered him at the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he offered sacrifices there.
For the tabernacle of the
LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at
Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of the
LORD that Moses had made in the wilderness and the altar of burnt offering were presently at the high place in
Gibeon,
But David could not go before it to
enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the
LORD.
but David could not go before it to inquire of God, because he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.
Then David said, “Here shall be the house of the LORD God, as well as the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the
LORD must be exceeding
magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the
LORD must be exceedingly magnificent—famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore I must make preparations for it.” So David made
lavish preparations before his death.
Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel.
Then David called for his son Solomon and
instructed him to build a house for the
LORD, the God of Israel.
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:
“My son,” said David to Solomon, “it was in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God,
But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
but this word of the
LORD came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and
waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My Name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.
Now, my son, the
LORD be with thee; and
prosper thou, and build the house of the
LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee.
Now, my son, may the LORD be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the LORD your God, as He said you would.
Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.
Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when He puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God.
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou takest
heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the
LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be dismayed.
Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the
LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the
LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add
thereto.
Now behold, I have taken great pains to provide for the house of the
LORD—100,000 talents of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron too great to be
weighed. I have also provided timber and stone, and you may add to them.
Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.
in gold and silver, bronze and iron—
craftsmen beyond number. Now begin the work, and may the
LORD be with you.”
Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people.
“Is not the LORD your God with you, and has He not granted you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and His people.
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges:
“Of these,” said David, “24,000 are to oversee the work of the house of the LORD, 6,000 are to be officers and judges,
Moreover four thousand were
porters; and four thousand praised the
LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise
therewith.
4,000 are to be gatekeepers, and 4,000 are to praise the LORD with the instruments I have made for giving praise.”
The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should
sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the
LORD, to minister unto him, and to
bless in his name for ever.
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his descendants were set apart
forever to
consecrate the most holy things, to burn incense before the
LORD, to minister before Him, and to
pronounce blessings in His name
forever.
These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.
These were the descendants of Levi by their families—the heads of families, registered individually by name—those twenty years of age or older who worked in the service of the house of the LORD.
For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:
For David had said, “The
LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem
forever.
Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the
LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the
purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
but their duty was to assist the descendants of Aaron with the service of the house of the
LORD, being responsible for the courts and chambers, the
purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God,
And to stand every morning to
thank and praise the
LORD, and likewise at even;
They were also to stand every morning to give
thanks and praise to the
LORD, and likewise in the evening.
And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:
Whenever burnt offerings were presented to the LORD on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts, they were to serve regularly before the LORD in the numbers prescribed for them.
And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.
So the Levites were to carry out the responsibilities for the Tent of Meeting and the Holy Place, and, under their brothers the descendants of Aaron, the service of the house of the LORD.
These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
This was their appointed order for service when they entered the house of the
LORD, according to the regulations prescribed for them by their
forefather Aaron, as the
LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded him.
From the sons of
Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah—six in all—under the direction of their father
Jeduthun, who
prophesied with the
harp, giving
thanks and praise to the
LORD.
All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the
LORD, with cymbals,
psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to
Asaph,
Jeduthun, and Heman.
All these were under the direction of their fathers for the music of the house of the
LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God.
Asaph,
Jeduthun, and Heman were under the direction of the king.
So the number of them, with their brethren that were
instructed in the songs of the
LORD, even all that were
cunning, was two hundred
fourscore and eight.
Together with their relatives, who were all trained and skillful in the songs of the LORD, they numbered 288.
Among these were the divisions of the
porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the
LORD.
These divisions of the gatekeepers, through their chief men, had duties for ministering in the house of the LORD, just as their brothers did.
The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and
Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the
LORD.
the sons of Jehieli, Zetham, and his brother
Joel. They were in charge of the
treasuries of the house of the
LORD.
Out of the spoils won in battles did they
dedicate to maintain the house of the
LORD.
They had dedicated some of the
plunder from their battles to the repair of the house of the
LORD.
And of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, were officers among them of Israel on this side Jordan westward in all the business of the LORD, and in the service of the king.
From the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his relatives, 1,700 capable men, had charge of the affairs of Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the LORD and for the service of the king.
But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.
David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.
Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the
LORD, and for the
footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
Then King David rose to his feet and said, “
Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the covenant of the
LORD and as a
footstool for our God. I had made preparations to build it,
Howbeit the
LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
Yet the
LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel
forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
