Thus
Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but
slew his son. And when he died, he said, The
LORD look upon it, and require it.
Thus King
Joash failed to remember the kindness that
Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him. Instead,
Joash killed Jehoiada’s son. As he lay dying,
Zechariah said, “May the
LORD see this and call you to account.”
For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the
LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had
forsaken the
LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against
Joash.
Although the
Aramean army had come with only a few men, the
LORD delivered into their hand a very great army. Because Judah had
forsaken the
LORD, the God of their fathers, judgment was executed on
Joash.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.
But he
slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the
LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
Yet he did not put their sons to death, but acted according to what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.
But a man of God came to him and said, “O king, do not let the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel—not with any of the Ephraimites.
And
Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The
LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
Amaziah asked the man of God, “What should I do about the hundred talents I have given to the army of Israel?” And the man of God replied, “The
LORD is able to give you much more than this.”
Wherefore the anger of the
LORD was
kindled against
Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
Therefore the anger of the
LORD burned against
Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet, who said, “Why have you sought this people’s gods, which could not deliver them from your hand?”
Now after the time that
Amaziah did turn away from following the
LORD they made a
conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to
Lachish: but they sent to
Lachish after him, and
slew him there.
From the time that
Amaziah turned from following the
LORD, a
conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to
Lachish. But men were sent after him to
Lachish, and they killed him there.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the
LORD, according to all that his father
Amaziah did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the
LORD, just as his father
Amaziah had done.
And he sought God in the days of
Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the
LORD, God made him to
prosper.
He sought God throughout the days of
Zechariah, who
instructed him in the fear of God. And as long as he sought the
LORD, God gave him success.
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he
transgressed against the
LORD his God, and went into the temple of the
LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
But when Uzziah grew powerful, his
arrogance led to his own destruction. He was unfaithful to the
LORD his God, for he entered the temple of the
LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.
Then
Azariah the priest, along with eighty
brave priests of the
LORD, went in after him.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the
LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the
LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
Then Uzziah was
wroth, and had a
censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was
wroth with the priests, the
leprosy even rose up in his
forehead before the priests in the house of the
LORD, from beside the incense altar.
Uzziah, with a
censer in his hand to offer incense, was
enraged. But while he
raged against the priests in their presence in the house of the
LORD before the altar of incense,
leprosy broke out on his
forehead.
And
Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was
leprous in his
forehead, and they thrust him out from thence;
yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the
LORD had
smitten him.
And Uzziah the king was a
leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a
leper; for he was cut off from the house of the
LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
So King Uzziah was a
leper until the day of his death. He lived in
isolation,
leprous and cut off from the house of the
LORD, while his son Jotham had charge of the royal palace to
govern the people of the land.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the
LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did:
howbeit he entered not into the temple of the
LORD. And the people did yet corruptly.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the
LORD, just as his father Uzziah had done. In addition, he did not enter the temple of the
LORD. But the people still
behaved corruptly.
He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.
Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD, and he worked extensively on the wall at the hill of Ophel.
So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.
So Jotham grew powerful because he ordered his ways before the LORD his God.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the
LORD, like David his father:
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the
LORD.
Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the
LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
Moreover,
Ahaz burned incense in the Valley of
Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the
LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Wherefore the
LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they
smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them
captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who
smote him with a great slaughter.
So the
LORD his God delivered
Ahaz into the hand of the king of
Aram, who attacked him and took many
captives to Damascus.
Ahaz was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.
For Pekah the son of Remaliah
slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all
valiant men; because they had
forsaken the
LORD God of their fathers.
For in one day Pekah son of Remaliah killed 120,000
valiant men in Judah. This happened because they had
forsaken the
LORD, the God of their fathers.
But a prophet of the
LORD was there, whose name was
Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the
LORD God of your fathers was
wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a
rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
But a prophet of the
LORD named
Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army that returned to Samaria. “Look,” he said to them, “because of His wrath against Judah, the
LORD, the God of your fathers, has delivered them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a
rage that reaches up to heaven.
And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for
bondmen and
bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the
LORD your God?
And now you intend to reduce to slavery the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem. But are you not also guilty before the LORD your God?
Now hear me therefore, and deliver the
captives again, which ye have taken
captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the
LORD is upon you.
Now therefore,
listen to me and return the
captives you took from your
kinsmen, for the fierce anger of the
LORD is upon you.”
And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the
captives hither: for whereas we have
offended against the
LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our
trespass: for our
trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.
“You must not bring the
captives here,” they said, “for you are
proposing to bring guilt upon us from the
LORD and to add to our sins and our guilt. For our guilt is great, and fierce anger is upon Israel.”
For the
LORD brought Judah low because of
Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and
transgressed sore against the
LORD.
For the
LORD humbled Judah because
Ahaz king of Israel had thrown off restraint in Judah and had been most unfaithful to the
LORD.
For
Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the
LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
Although
Ahaz had taken a portion from the house of the
LORD, from the royal palace, and from the princes and had presented it to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.
And in the time of his distress did he
trespass yet more against the
LORD: this is that king
Ahaz.
In the time of his distress, King
Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the
LORD.
And
Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the
LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
Then
Ahaz gathered up the articles of the house of God, cut them into pieces, shut the doors of the house of the
LORD, and set up altars of his own on every street corner in Jerusalem.
And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and
provoked to anger the
LORD God of his fathers.
In every city of Judah he built high places to offer incense to other gods, and so he
provoked the
LORD, the God of his fathers.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them.
In the first month of the first year of his reign,
Hezekiah opened and repaired the doors of the house of the
LORD.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the
LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the
LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
Wherefore the wrath of the
LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to
astonishment, and to
hissing, as ye see with your eyes.
Therefore, the wrath of the
LORD has fallen upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror,
horror, and
mockery, as you can see with your own eyes.
Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us.
Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, so that His fierce anger will turn away from us.
My sons, be not now
negligent: for the
LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that ye should minister unto him, and burn incense.
Now, my sons, do not be
negligent, for the
LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, to minister before Him, and to burn incense.”
And they gathered their brethren, and
sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the
LORD, to
cleanse the house of the
LORD.
When they had assembled their brothers and consecrated themselves, they went in to
cleanse the house of the
LORD, according to the command of the king by the words of the
LORD.
And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the
LORD, to
cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the
LORD into the court of the house of the
LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the
brook Kidron.
So the priests went inside the house of the
LORD to
cleanse it, and they brought out to the
courtyard all the unclean things that they found in the temple of the
LORD. Then the Levites took these things and carried them out to the Kidron Valley.
Now they began on the first day of the first month to
sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the
porch of the
LORD: so they
sanctified the house of the
LORD in eight days; and in the
sixteenth day of the first month they made an end.
They began the
consecration on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they reached the
portico of the
LORD. For eight more days they consecrated the house of the
LORD itself, finishing on the
sixteenth day of the first month.
Then they went in to
Hezekiah the king, and said, We have
cleansed all the house of the
LORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the
shewbread table, with all the vessels thereof.
Then they went in to King
Hezekiah and reported, “We have
cleansed the entire house of the
LORD, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the table of the
showbread with all its utensils.
Moreover all the vessels, which king
Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his
transgression, have we prepared and
sanctified, and, behold, they are before the altar of the
LORD.
Moreover, we have prepared and consecrated all the articles that King
Ahaz in his unfaithfulness cast aside during his reign. They are now in front of the altar of the
LORD.”
Then
Hezekiah the king rose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went up to the house of the
LORD.
Early the next morning King
Hezekiah gathered the city officials and went up to the house of the
LORD.
And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And the king commanded the priests, the descendants of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
And he set the Levites in the house of the
LORD with cymbals, with
psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of
Gad the king’s
seer, and
Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the
LORD by his prophets.
Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the house of the
LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres according to the command of David, of
Gad the king’s
seer, and of
Nathan the prophet. For the command had come from the
LORD through His prophets.
And
Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the
LORD began also with the
trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel.
And
Hezekiah ordered that the burnt offering be sacrificed on the altar. When the burnt offering began, the song of the
LORD and the
trumpets began as well, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel.
Moreover
Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the
LORD with the words of David, and of
Asaph the
seer. And they
sang praises with
gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.
Then King
Hezekiah and his officials ordered the Levites to sing praises to the
LORD in the words of David and of
Asaph the
seer. So they
sang praises with
gladness and bowed their heads and worshiped.
Then
Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have consecrated
yourselves unto the
LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and
thank offerings into the house of the
LORD. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and
thank offerings; and as many as were of a free heart burnt offerings.
Then
Hezekiah said, “Now that you have consecrated
yourselves to the
LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and
thank offerings to the house of the
LORD.” So the assembly brought sacrifices and
thank offerings, and all whose hearts were willing brought burnt offerings.
And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was
threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the
LORD.
The number of burnt offerings the assembly brought was seventy bulls, a hundred rams, and two hundred lambs; all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD.
And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order.
Furthermore, the burnt offerings were abundant, along with the fat of the peace offerings and the drink offerings for the burnt offerings. So the service of the house of the
LORD was established.
And
Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and
Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the
LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the
passover unto the
LORD God of Israel.
Then
Hezekiah sent word throughout all Israel and Judah, and he also wrote letters to Ephraim and
Manasseh inviting them to come to the house of the
LORD in Jerusalem to keep the
Passover of the
LORD, the God of Israel.
So they established a decree to make
proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beer-
sheba even to
Dan, that they should come to keep the
passover unto the
LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written.
So they established a decree to
circulate a
proclamation throughout Israel, from
Beersheba to
Dan, that the people should come to keep the
Passover of the
LORD, the God of Israel, in Jerusalem. For they had not observed it as a nation as prescribed.
So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the
LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the
remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.
So the couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with letters from the king and his officials, which read: “Children of Israel, return to the
LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, so that He may return to those of you who remain, who have escaped the
grasp of the kings of Assyria.
And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which
trespassed against the
LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to
desolation, as ye see.
Do not be like your fathers and brothers who were unfaithful to the
LORD, the God of their fathers, so that He made them an object of
horror, as you can see.
Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield
yourselves unto the
LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath
sanctified for ever: and serve the
LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.
Now do not
stiffen your necks as your fathers did. Submit to the
LORD and come to His sanctuary, which He has consecrated
forever. Serve the
LORD your God, so that His fierce anger will turn away from you.
For if ye turn again unto the
LORD, your brethren and your children shall find
compassion before them that lead them
captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the
LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.
For if you return to the
LORD, your brothers and sons will receive mercy in the presence of their captors and will return to this land. For the
LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful; He will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.”
Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.
Moreover, the power of God was on the people in Judah to give them one heart to obey the command of the king and his officials according to the word of the LORD.
Then they killed the
passover on the
fourteenth day of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were
ashamed, and
sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the
LORD.
And on the
fourteenth day of the second month they slaughtered the
Passover lamb. The priests and Levites were
ashamed, and they consecrated themselves and brought burnt offerings to the house of the
LORD.
For there were many in the congregation that were not
sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the passovers for every one that was not clean, to
sanctify them unto the
LORD.
Since there were many in the assembly who had not consecrated themselves, the Levites were in charge of slaughtering the
Passover lambs for every unclean person to
consecrate the lambs to the
LORD.
That prepareth his heart to seek God, the
LORD God of his fathers, though he be not
cleansed according to the
purification of the sanctuary.
who sets his heart on seeking God—the
LORD, the God of his fathers—even if he is not
cleansed according to the
purification rules of the sanctuary.”
And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of
unleavened bread seven days with great
gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the
LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the
LORD.
The Israelites who were present in Jerusalem celebrated the Feast of
Unleavened Bread for seven days with great joy, and the Levites and priests praised the
LORD day after day, accompanied by loud instruments of praise to the
LORD.
And
Hezekiah spake
comfortably unto all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the
LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days, offering peace offerings, and making confession to the
LORD God of their fathers.
And
Hezekiah encouraged all the Levites who performed
skillfully before the
LORD. For seven days they
ate their assigned portion, sacrificing
fellowship offerings and giving
thanks to the
LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give
thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the
LORD.
Hezekiah reestablished the divisions of the priests and Levites—each of them according to their duties as priests or Levites—for the burnt offerings and peace offerings, for ministry, for giving
thanks, and for singing praises at the gates of the
LORD’s dwelling.
He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD.
The king contributed from his own possessions for the regular morning and evening burnt offerings and for the burnt offerings on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts, as written in the Law of the LORD.
Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.
Moreover, he commanded the people living in Jerusalem to make a contribution for the priests and Levites so that they could
devote themselves to the Law of the
LORD.
And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the
tithe of oxen and sheep, and the
tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the
LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.
And the Israelites and Judahites who lived in the cities of Judah also brought a
tithe of their herds and flocks and a
tithe of the holy things consecrated to the
LORD their God, and they laid them in large heaps.
And when
Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the
LORD, and his people Israel.
When
Hezekiah and his officials came and viewed the heaps, they blessed the
LORD and His people Israel.
And
Azariah the chief priest of the house of
Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the
LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left
plenty: for the
LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.
and
Azariah, the chief priest of the household of
Zadok, answered him, “Since the people began to bring their contributions into the house of the
LORD, we have had enough to eat and there is
plenty left over, because the
LORD has blessed His people; this great abundance is what is left over.”
Then
Hezekiah commanded to prepare chambers in the house of the
LORD; and they prepared them,
Then
Hezekiah commanded them to prepare storerooms in the house of the
LORD, and they did so.
And Kore the son of Imnah the
Levite, the porter toward the east, was over the
freewill offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of the
LORD, and the most holy things.
Kore son of Imnah the
Levite, the keeper of the East Gate, was in charge of the
freewill offerings given to God, distributing the contributions to the
LORD and the consecrated gifts.
Beside their
genealogy of males, from three years old and upward, even unto every one that entereth into the house of the
LORD, his daily portion for their service in their charges according to their courses;
In addition, they distributed portions to the males registered by
genealogy who were three years of age or older—to all who would enter the house of the
LORD for their daily duties for service in the responsibilities of their divisions—
And thus did
Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which was good and right and truth before the
LORD his God.
So this is what
Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what was good and upright and true before the
LORD his God.
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the
LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the
LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” So the people were strengthened by the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
Is not
Hezekiah misleading you to give you over to death by famine and
thirst when he says, ‘The
LORD our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria?’
And his servants spake yet more against the
LORD God, and against his servant
Hezekiah.
And the servants of
Sennacherib spoke further against the
LORD God and against His servant
Hezekiah.
He wrote also letters to rail on the
LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of
Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
He also wrote letters
mocking the
LORD, the God of Israel, and saying against Him: “Just as the gods of the nations did not deliver their people from my hand, so the God of
Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my hand.”
And the
LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the
LORD sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
Thus the
LORD saved
Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of
Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.
So the
LORD saved
Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hands of King
Sennacherib of Assyria and all the others, and He gave them rest on every side.
And many brought gifts unto the
LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to
Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was
magnified in the sight of all nations from
thenceforth.
Many brought offerings to Jerusalem for the
LORD and valuable gifts for
Hezekiah king of Judah, and from then on he was
exalted in the eyes of all nations.
In those days
Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the
LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. So he prayed to the
LORD, who spoke to him and gave him a sign.
Notwithstanding
Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the
LORD came not upon them in the days of
Hezekiah.
Then
Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart—he and the people of Jerusalem—so that the wrath of the
LORD did not come upon them during the days of
Hezekiah.
But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Also he built altars in the house of the
LORD,
whereof the
LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.
Manasseh also built altars in the house of the
LORD, of which the
LORD had said, “My Name will remain in Jerusalem
forever.”
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
In both courtyards of the house of the LORD, he built altars to all the host of heaven.
And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of
Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used
witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the
LORD, to
provoke him to anger.
He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of
Hinnom. He practiced
sorcery,
divination, and
witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the
LORD,
provoking Him to anger.
So
Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to
err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the
LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel.
So
Manasseh led the people of Judah and Jerusalem
astray, so that they did greater evil than the nations that the
LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.
And the
LORD spake to
Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not
hearken.
And the
LORD spoke to
Manasseh and his people, but they did not
listen.
Wherefore the
LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took
Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with
fetters, and carried him to Babylon.
So the
LORD brought against them the military commanders of the king of Assyria, who captured
Manasseh, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze
shackles, and took him to Babylon.
And when he was in
affliction, he
besought the
LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
And in his distress,
Manasseh sought the favor of the
LORD his God and earnestly humbled himself before the God of his fathers.
And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his
supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the
LORD he was God.
And when he prayed to Him, the
LORD received his
plea and heard his petition; so He brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the
LORD is God.
And he took away the strange gods, and the
idol out of the house of the
LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the
LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.
He removed the foreign gods and the
idol from the house of the
LORD, along with all the altars he had built on the temple mount and in Jerusalem, and he
dumped them outside the city.
And he repaired the altar of the
LORD, and sacrificed
thereon peace offerings and
thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the
LORD God of Israel.
Then he restored the altar of the
LORD and sacrificed peace offerings and
thank offerings on it, and he told Judah to serve the
LORD, the God of Israel.
Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.
Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the
LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with his prayer to his God and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the
LORD, the God of Israel, they are indeed written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
But he did that which was evil in the sight of the
LORD, as did
Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which
Manasseh his father had made, and served them;
And he did evil in the sight of the
LORD, as his father
Manasseh had done. Amon served and sacrificed to all the idols that his father
Manasseh had made,
And humbled not himself before the
LORD, as
Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon
trespassed more and more.
but he did not humble himself before the
LORD as his father
Manasseh had done; instead, Amon increased his guilt.
