The
impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no
man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the
pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
“Sir,” the
invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the
pool when the water is
stirred. While I am on my way, someone else goes in before me.”
And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
Immediately the
man was made well, and he
picked up his mat and began to walk. Now this happened on the Sabbath day,
The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
so the Jews said to the
man who had been
healed, “This is the Sabbath! It is unlawful for you to carry your mat.”
He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
But he answered, “The
man who made me well told me, ‘
Pick up your mat and walk.’”
Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
“Who is this
man who told you to
pick it up and walk?” they asked.
And he that was
healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
But the
man who was
healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had
slipped away while the crowd was there.
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
Afterward, Jesus found the
man at the temple and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Stop
sinning, or something worse may happen to you.”
The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
And the man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
Furthermore, the Father judges no one, but has assigned all judgment to the Son,
And hath given him authority to
execute judgment also, because he is the Son of
man.
And He has given Him authority to
execute judgment, because He is the Son of
Man.
But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.
Even though I do not accept human testimony, I say these things so that you may be saved.
There is a
lad here, which hath five barley
loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so
many?
“Here is a boy with five barley
loaves and two small fish. But what difference will these make among so
many?”
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting life, which the Son of
man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Do not work for food that perishes, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of
Man will give you. For on Him God the Father has placed His seal of
approval.”
Our fathers did eat
manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
Our fathers
ate the
manna in the wilderness, as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
It is written in the Prophets: ‘And they will all be taught by God.’
Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me—
Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
not that
anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God; only He has seen the Father.
Your fathers did eat
manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
Your fathers
ate the
manna in the wilderness, yet they died.
This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that
anyone may eat of it and not die.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If
anyone eats of this bread, he will live
forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.”
The Jews therefore
strove among themselves, saying, How can this
man give us his flesh to eat?
At this, the Jews began to
argue among themselves, “How can this
man give us His flesh to eat?”
Then Jesus said unto them,
Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of
man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you.
This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat
manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your fathers, who
ate the
manna and died, the one who eats this bread will live
forever.”
Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a difficult teaching. Who can accept it?”
What and if ye shall see the Son of
man ascend up where he was before?
Then what will happen if you see the Son of
Man ascend to where He was before?
And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
Then Jesus said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has granted it to him.”
From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
From that time on many of His disciples turned back and no longer walked with Him.
For there is no
man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things,
shew thyself to the world.
For no one who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Since You are doing these things, show
Yourself to the world.”
And there was much
murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good
man: others said,
Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
Many in the crowds were
whispering about Him. Some said, “He is a good
man.” But others replied, “No, He deceives the people.”
Howbeit no
man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
Yet no one would speak publicly about Him for fear of the Jews.
And the Jews
marvelled, saying, How knoweth this
man letters, having never learned?
The Jews were
amazed and asked, “How did this
man attain such learning without having studied?”
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
If
anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.
He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is a
man of truth; in Him there is no
falsehood.
Moses therefore gave unto you
circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day
circumcise a
man.
But because Moses gave you
circumcision, you
circumcise a boy on the Sabbath (not that it is from Moses, but from the patriarchs.)
If a
man on the sabbath day receive
circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye
angry at me, because I have made a
man every
whit whole on the sabbath day?
If a boy can be
circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses will not be broken, why are you
angry with Me for making the whole
man well on the Sabbath?
Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
Then some of the people of Jerusalem began to say, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?
Howbeit we know this
man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no
man knoweth whence he is.
But we know where this man is from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where He is from.”
Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
So they tried to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.
And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
Many in the crowd, however, believed in Him and said, “When the Christ comes, will He perform more signs than this man?”
What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
What does He mean by saying, ‘You will look for Me, but you will not find Me,’ and, ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and
cried, saying, If any
man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice, “If
anyone is
thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
On hearing these words, some of the people said, “This is truly the Prophet.”
And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him.
The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
“Never has
anyone spoken like this
man!” the officers answered.
Doth our law judge any
man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
“Does our law
convict a
man without first hearing from him to determine what he has done?”
And every man went unto his own house.
Then each went to his own home.
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
Then Jesus
straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?”
She said, No
man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I
condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
“No one, Lord,” she answered. “Then neither do I
condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.”
Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts, near the treasury. Yet no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.
I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
“I have much to say about you and much to judge. But the One who sent Me is truthful, and what I have heard from Him, I tell the world.”
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me.
As he spake these words, many believed on him.
As Jesus spoke these things, many believed in Him.
They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in
bondage to any
man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
“We are Abraham’s descendants,” they answered. “We have never been slaves to
anyone. How can You say we will be set free?”
But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
But now you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing.
Verily,
verily, I say unto you, If a
man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
Truly, truly, I tell you, if
anyone keeps My word, he will never see death.”
Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
“Now we know that You have a
demon!” declared the Jews. “Abraham died, and so did the prophets, yet You say that
anyone who keeps Your word will never taste death.
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
Now as Jesus was passing by, He saw a man blind from birth,
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
and His disciples asked Him, “
Rabbi, who
sinned, this
man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
Jesus answered, Neither hath this
man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made
manifest in him.
Jesus answered, “Neither this
man nor his parents
sinned, but this happened so that the works of God would be displayed in him.
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
While it is
daytime, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work.
When he had thus spoken, he
spat on the ground, and made clay of the
spittle, and he
anointed the eyes of the blind
man with the clay,
When Jesus had said this, He
spit on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the
man’s eyes.
And said unto him, Go, wash in the
pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Then He told him, “Go, wash in the
Pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So the
man went and washed, and came back seeing.
The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and
begged?
At this, his neighbors and those who had formerly seen him
begging began to ask, “Isn’t this the
man who used to sit and
beg?”
Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
Some claimed that he was, but others said, “No, he just looks like him.” But the man kept saying, “I am the one.”
He answered and said, A
man that is called Jesus made clay, and
anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the
pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
He answered, “The
man they call Jesus made some mud and
anointed my eyes, and He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and received my sight.”
They brought to the
Pharisees the
man who had been blind.
Then again the
Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
So the
Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. The
man answered, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and now I can see.”
Therefore said some of the
Pharisees, This
man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a
man that is a
sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
Because of this, some of the
Pharisees said, “This
man is not from God, for He does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, “How can a sinful
man perform such signs?” And there was division among them.
They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
So once again they asked the man who had been blind, “What do you say about Him, since it was your eyes He opened?” “He is a prophet,” the man replied.
But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
The Jews still did not believe that the man had been blind and had received his sight until they summoned his parents
These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any
man did
confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the
synagogue.
His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already determined that
anyone who
confessed Jesus as the Christ would be put out of the
synagogue.
Then again called they the
man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this
man is a
sinner.
So a second time they called for the
man who had been blind and said, “Give glory to God! We know that this
man is a
sinner.”
We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
We know that God spoke to Moses, but we do not know where this man is from.”
The
man answered and said unto them, Why
herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
“That is remarkable indeed!” the man said. “You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes.
Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
We know that God does not
listen to sinners, but He does
listen to the one who worships Him and does His will.
Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
Never before has
anyone heard of opening the eyes of a
man born blind.
If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
If this man were not from God, He could do no such thing.”
Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him,
Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, He found the man and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
I am the gate. If
anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.
The
man runs away because he is a
hired servant and is unconcerned for the sheep.
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own
accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from My Father.”
And
many of them said, He hath a devil, and is
mad; why hear ye him?
Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
But others replied, “These are not the words of a
man possessed by a
demon. Can a
demon open the eyes of the blind?”
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any
man pluck them out of my hand.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can
snatch them out of My hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no
man is able to
pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can
snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
But Jesus
responded, “I have shown you
many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone Me?”
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for
blasphemy; and because that thou, being a
man, makest
thyself God.
“We are not stoning You for any good work,” said the Jews, “but for
blasphemy, because You, who are a
man, declare
Yourself to be God.”
And
many resorted unto him, and said, John did no
miracle: but all things that John spake of this
man were true.
Many came to Him and said, “Although John never performed a sign, everything he said about this man was true.”
And many believed on him there.
And many in that place believed in Jesus.
At this time a
man named
Lazarus was sick. He lived in
Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister
Martha.
Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any
man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he
seeth the light of this world.
Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of
daylight? If
anyone walks in the
daytime, he will not
stumble, because he sees by the light of this world.
But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
But if
anyone walks at night, he will
stumble, because he has no light.”
And
many of the Jews came to
Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
and
many of the Jews had come to
Martha and Mary to
console them in the loss of their brother.
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
But some of them asked, “Could not this
man who opened the eyes of the blind also have kept
Lazarus from dying?”
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone.
Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
“Take away the stone,” Jesus said. “Lord, by now he stinks,” said
Martha, the sister of the dead
man. “It has already been four days.”
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with
graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a
napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
The
man who had been dead came out with his hands and feet bound in strips of linen, and his face
wrapped in a cloth. “
Unwrap him and let him go,” Jesus told them.
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in Him.
Then gathered the chief priests and the
Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this
man doeth
many miracles.
Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
You do not
realize that it is better for you that one
man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”
