Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
Though he falls, he will
not be
overwhelmed, for the LORD is holding his hand.
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I
not seen the righteous
forsaken, nor his seed
begging bread.
I once was young and now am old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children
begging for bread.
For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
For the LORD loves justice and will
not forsake His saints. They are preserved
forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off.
The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do
not falter.
The LORD will
not leave him in his hand, nor
condemn him when he is judged.
the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned under judgment.
Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was
not:
yea, I sought him, but he could
not be found.
yet he passed away and was no more; though I searched, he could not be found.
O LORD,
rebuke me
not in thy wrath: neither
chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
O LORD, do
not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.
Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my
groaning is
not hid from thee.
O Lord, my every desire is before You; my
groaning is
not hidden from You.
But I, as a
deaf man, heard
not; and I was as a
dumb man that openeth
not his mouth.
But like a
deaf man, I do
not hear; and like a
mute man, I do
not open my mouth.
Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
I am like a man who cannot hear, whose mouth offers no reply.
For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should
rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they
magnify themselves against me.
For I said, “Let them
not gloat over me— those who
taunt me when my foot slips.”
Forsake me
not, O LORD: O my God, be
not far from me.
Do
not forsake me, O LORD; be
not far from me, O my God.
I said, I will take
heed to my ways, that I sin
not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a
bridle, while the wicked is before me.
I said, “I will watch my ways so that I will
not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a
muzzle as long as the wicked are present.”
Behold, thou hast made my days as an
handbreadth; and mine age is as
nothing before thee:
verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.
Selah.
You, indeed, have made my days as handbreadths, and my lifetime as
nothing before You. Truly each man at his best exists as but a breath.
Selah Surely every man walketh in a vain
shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth
not who shall gather them.
Surely every man goes about like a
phantom; surely he bustles in vain; he heaps up riches
not knowing who will
haul them away.
Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me
not the reproach of the
foolish.
Deliver me from all my transgressions; do not make me the reproach of fools.
I was
dumb, I opened
not my mouth; because thou
didst it.
I have become
mute; I do
not open my mouth because of what You have done.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold
not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a
sojourner, as all my fathers were.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry for help; do
not be
deaf to my
weeping. For I am a foreigner dwelling with You, a stranger like all my fathers.
Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, who has
not turned to the proud, nor to those who
lapse into
falsehood.
Sacrifice and offering thou
didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou
not required.
Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but my ears You have opened. Burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not require.
I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have
not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
I
proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; behold, I do
not seal my lips, as You, O LORD, do know.
I have
not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have
not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
I have not covered up Your righteousness in my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and salvation; I have not concealed Your loving devotion and faithfulness from the great assembly.
Withhold not thou thy tender
mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
O LORD, do
not withhold Your mercy from me; Your loving devotion and faithfulness will always guard me.
For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine
iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am
not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
For evils without number
surround me; my sins have overtaken me, so that I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed within me.
But I am poor and
needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no
tarrying, O my God.
But I am poor and
needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my helper and deliverer; O my God, do
not delay.
The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou
wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
The LORD will protect and preserve him; He will
bless him in the land and refuse to surrender him to the will of his foes.
By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy
doth not triumph over me.
By this I know that You delight in me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
For it was not by their sword that they took the land; their arm did not bring them victory. It was by Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them.
For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
For I do not trust in my bow, nor does my sword save me.
But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
But You have rejected and humbled us; You no longer go forth with our armies.
Thou sellest thy people for
nought, and
dost not increase thy wealth by their price.
You sell Your people for nothing; no profit do You gain from their sale.
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
All this has come upon us, though we have
not forgotten You or
betrayed Your covenant.
Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
Our hearts have
not turned back; our steps have
not strayed from Your path.
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
would not God have discovered, since He knows the secrets of the heart?
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us
not off for ever.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Therefore we will
not fear, though the earth is transformed and the mountains are
toppled into the depths of the seas,
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
God is within her; she will not be moved. God will help her when morning dawns.
That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
that he should live on
forever and
not see decay.
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
But a man,
despite his wealth, cannot
endure; he is like the beasts that perish.
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
Do
not be
amazed when a man grows rich, when the
splendor of his house increases.
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
For when he dies, he will carry nothing away; his abundance will not follow him down.
Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
Our God shall come, and shall
not keep silence: a fire shall
devour before him, and it shall be very
tempestuous round about him.
Our God approaches and will
not be silent!
Consuming fire precedes Him, and a
tempest rages around Him.
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
I do
not rebuke you for your sacrifices, and your burnt offerings are ever before Me.
If I were
hungry, I would
not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the
fulness thereof.
If I were
hungry, I would
not tell you, for the world is Mine, and the fullness thereof.
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Cast me not away from Your presence; take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You take no pleasure in burnt offerings.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a
contrite heart, O God, thou
wilt not despise.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a
contrite heart, O God, You will
not despise.
Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
“Look at the man who did not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his wealth and strengthened himself by destruction.”
Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become
filthy; there is none that doeth good, no,
not one.
All have turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God.
Will the workers of iniquity never learn? They
devour my people like bread; they refuse to call upon God.
There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath
despised them.
There they are,
overwhelmed with
dread, where there was
nothing to fear. For God has scattered the bones of those who besieged you. You put them to shame, for God has
despised them.
For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have
not set God before them.
Selah.
For strangers rise up against me, and
ruthless men seek my life— men with no regard for God.
Selah Wickedness is in the midst thereof:
deceit and
guile depart
not from her streets.
Destruction is within; oppression and
deceit never leave the streets.
For it was
not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that
hated me that did
magnify himself against me; then I would have
hid myself from him:
For it is
not an enemy who insults me; that I could
endure. It is
not a
foe who rises against me; from him I could hide.
God shall hear, and
afflict them, even he that abideth of old.
Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear
not God.
God will hear and
humiliate them— the One enthroned for the ages—
Selah because they do
not change and they have no fear of God.
But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction:
bloody and
deceitful men shall
not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.
But You, O God, will bring them down to the Pit of destruction; men of
bloodshed and
deceit will
not live out half their days. But I will trust in You.
In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy
bottle: are they
not in thy book?
You have taken account of my wanderings. Put my tears in Your
bottle— are they
not in Your book?
In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
For thou hast delivered my soul from death:
wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
For You have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from
stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
Which will
not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.
As a
snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may
not see the sun.
Like a
slug that dissolves in its
slime, like a woman’s
stillborn child, may they never see the sun.
For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me;
not for my
transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.
See how they lie in wait for me. Fierce men
conspire against me for no
transgression or sin of my own, O LORD.
They run and prepare themselves without my fault:
awake to help me, and behold.
For no fault of my own, they move swiftly to attack me. Arise to help me, and take notice.
Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel,
awake to visit all the heathen: be
not merciful to any wicked transgressors.
Selah.
O LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel,
rouse Yourself to
punish all the nations; show no mercy to the wicked traitors.
Selah Slay them
not, lest my people
forget:
scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.
Do
not kill them, or my people will
forget.
Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down, O Lord, our shield.
Consume them in wrath,
consume them, that they may
not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth.
Selah.
Consume them in wrath;
consume them till they are no more, so it may be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.
Selah Let them
wander up and down for meat, and
grudge if they be
not satisfied.
Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which
didst not go out with our armies?
Have You not rejected us, O God? Will You no longer march out, O God, with our armies?
He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
He alone is my rock and my salvation. He is my fortress; I will never be
shaken.
He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will
not be
shaken.
Trust
not in oppression, and become
not vain in
robbery: if riches increase, set
not your heart upon them.
Place no trust in
extortion, or false hope in
stolen goods. If your riches increase, do
not set your heart upon them.
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let
not the
rebellious exalt themselves.
Selah.
Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
He preserves our lives and keeps our feet from
slipping.
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
Blessed be God, who has
not rejected my prayer or
withheld from me His loving devotion!
They that
hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies
wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took
not away.
Those who
hate me without cause outnumber the hairs of my head; many are those who would destroy me— my enemies for no reason. Though I did
not steal, I must repay.
O God, thou knowest my
foolishness; and my sins are
not hid from thee.
You know my folly, O God, and my guilt is not hidden from You.
Let
not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be
ashamed for my sake: let
not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.
May those who hope in You
not be
ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of Hosts; may those who seek You
not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel.
Deliver me out of the
mire, and let me
not sink: let me be delivered from them that
hate me, and out of the deep waters.
Rescue me from the
mire and do
not let me sink; deliver me from my foes and out of the deep waters.
Let
not the
waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep
swallow me up, and let
not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
Do
not let the floods
engulf me or the depths
swallow me up; let
not the Pit close its mouth over me.
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.
Hide not Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly!
Let their eyes be
darkened, that they see
not; and make their loins continually to
shake.
May their eyes be
darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent
forever.
Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.
Add iniquity to their iniquity; let them not share in Your righteousness.
Let them be
blotted out of the book of the living, and
not be written with the righteous.
May they be
blotted out of the Book of Life and
not listed with the righteous.
For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.
But I am poor and
needy: make
haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no
tarrying.
But I am poor and
needy;
hurry to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do
not delay.
Cast me
not off in the time of old age;
forsake me
not when my strength faileth.
Do
not discard me in my old age; do
not forsake me when my strength fails.
O God, be
not far from me: O my God, make
haste for my help.
Be
not far from me, O God.
Hurry, O my God, to help me.
My mouth shall
shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know
not the numbers thereof.
My mouth will declare Your righteousness and Your salvation all day long, though I cannot know their full measure.
Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God,
forsake me
not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
Even when I am old and gray, do
not forsake me, O God, until I
proclaim Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.
They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
They are free of the burdens others carry; they are
not afflicted like other men.
We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
There are no signs for us to see. There is no longer any prophet. And none of us knows how long this will last.
O deliver
not the soul of thy
turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked:
forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.
Do
not let the
oppressed retreat in shame; may the poor and
needy praise Your name.
Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the
tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.
I said unto the fools, Deal
not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift
not up the horn:
I say to the proud, ‘Do
not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do
not lift up your horn.
