Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom
nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye
sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
Then
Nehemiah told them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send out portions to those who have
nothing prepared, since
today is holy to our Lord. Do not
grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Yea, forty years
didst thou
sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked
nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
For forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.
Now when the turn of
Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of
Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required
nothing but what Hegai the king’s
chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And
Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
Now
Esther was the daughter of Abihail, the uncle from whom
Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter. And when it was her turn to go to the king, she did not ask for anything except what Hegai, the king’s trusted official in charge of the
harem, had
advised. And
Esther found favor in the eyes of
everyone who saw her.
Yet all this availeth me
nothing, so long as I see
Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.
Yet none of this satisfies me as long as I see
Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”
And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to
Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is
nothing done for him.
The king inquired, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on
Mordecai for this act?” “
Nothing has been done for him,” replied the king’s attendants.
Then the king said to
Haman, Make
haste, and take the
apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to
Mordecai the
Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let
nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
“
Hurry,” said the king to
Haman, “and do just as you proposed. Take the
robe and the horse to
Mordecai the
Jew, who is sitting at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything that you have suggested.”
Satan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for
nothing?
And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy
habitation, and shalt not sin.
You will know that your tent is secure, and find
nothing amiss when
inspecting your home.
The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.
Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go into the wasteland and perish.
(For we are but of
yesterday, and know
nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)
For we were born
yesterday and know
nothing; our days on earth are but a shadow.
There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
Nothing is left for him to
consume; thus his prosperity will not
endure.
And if it be not so now, who will make me a
liar, and make my speech
nothing worth?
If this is not so, then who can prove me a
liar and reduce my words to
nothing?”
He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth upon nothing.
Why
dost thou
strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
Why do you
complain to Him that He answers
nothing a man asks?
For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight in God.’
He mocketh at fear, and is not
affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
He laughs at fear,
frightened of
nothing; he does not turn back from the sword.
Once have I spoken; but I will not answer:
yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
I have spoken once, but I have no answer— twice, but I have nothing to add.”
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
Nothing on earth is his equal— a creature devoid of fear!
Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find
nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not
transgress.
You have tried my heart; You have visited me in the night. You have tested me and found no evil; I have resolved not to sin with my mouth.
His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is
nothing hid from the heat thereof.
it rises at one end of the heavens and runs its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its
warmth.
O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.
False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
Hostile witnesses come forward; they make charges I know nothing about.
Behold, thou hast made my days as an
handbreadth; and mine age is as
nothing before thee:
verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.
Selah.
You, indeed, have made my days as handbreadths, and my lifetime as
nothing before You. Truly each man at his best exists as but a breath.
Selah Thou sellest thy people for
nought, and
dost not increase thy wealth by their price.
You sell Your people for nothing; no profit do You gain from their sale.
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
For when he dies, he will carry nothing away; his abundance will not follow him down.
There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath
despised them.
There they are,
overwhelmed with
dread, where there was
nothing to fear. For God has scattered the bones of those who besieged you. You put them to shame, for God has
despised them.
A
froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.
A
perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know
nothing of evil.
Great peace have they which love thy law: and
nothing shall
offend them.
Abundant peace belongs to those who love Your law;
nothing can make them
stumble.
She is more precious than
rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
She is more precious than
rubies;
nothing you desire compares with her.
All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is
nothing froward or
perverse in them.
For wisdom is better than
rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
For wisdom is more precious than
rubies, and
nothing you desire compares with her.
The woman named Folly is loud; she is
naive and knows
nothing.
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Ill-
gotten treasures profit
nothing, but righteousness brings
deliverance from death.
The soul of the
sluggard desireth, and hath
nothing: but the soul of the
diligent shall be made fat.
The slacker craves yet has
nothing, but the soul of the
diligent is fully satisfied.
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
One pretends to be rich, but has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
The
sluggard will not
plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he
beg in harvest, and have
nothing.
The slacker does not
plow in season; at harvest time he looks, but
nothing is there.
If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
If you have nothing with which to pay, why should your bed be taken from under you?
Such is the way of an
adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
This is the way of an
adulteress: She eats and wipes her mouth and says, ‘I have done
nothing wrong.’
The heart of her husband
doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of
spoil.
The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he lacks nothing of value.
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
What has been will be again, and what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and
vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
Yet when I considered all the works that my hands had accomplished and what I had
toiled to
achieve, I found everything to be
futile, a pursuit of the wind; there was
nothing to be gained under the sun.
There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
Nothing is better for a man than to eat and drink and enjoy his work. I have also seen that this is from the hand of God.
I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to
rejoice, and to do good in his life.
I know that there is
nothing better for them than to
rejoice and do good while they live,
I know that,
whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever:
nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
I know that everything God does endures
forever;
nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God does it so that they should fear Him.
Wherefore I perceive that there is
nothing better, than that a man should
rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
I have seen that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will come after him?
But those riches perish by evil
travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is
nothing in his hand.
or wealth lost in a failed
venture, so when that man has a son there is
nothing to pass on.
As he came forth of his mother’s
womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take
nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
As a man came from his mother’s
womb, so he will depart again, naked as he arrived. He takes
nothing for his labor to carry in his hands.
A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks
nothing his heart desires; but God does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is
futile and a
grievous affliction.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of
adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find
nothing after him.
In the day of prosperity, be joyful, but in the day of
adversity, consider this: God has made one of these along with the other, so that a man cannot discover anything that will come after him.
Then I
commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be
merry: for that shall
abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
So I
commended the enjoyment of life, because there is
nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be
merry. For this joy will
accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, because the memory of them is forgotten.
Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Nothing will remain but to
crouch among the
captives or fall among the slain.
Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.
Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or
rush, may do.
There is nothing Egypt can do— head or tail, palm or reed.
They were all
ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be an help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.
everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them. They cannot be of help; they are good for
nothing but shame and reproach.”
They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
No nobles will be left to
proclaim a king, and all her princes will come to
nothing.
And
Hezekiah was
glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious
ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was
nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that
Hezekiah shewed them not.
And
Hezekiah welcomed the envoys
gladly and showed them what was in his
treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his entire
armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was
nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that
Hezekiah did not show them.
Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And
Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is
nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. “They have seen everything in my palace,” answered
Hezekiah. “There is
nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
All the nations are as
nothing before Him; He regards them as
nothingness and
emptiness.
That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
He brings the princes to nothing and makes the rulers of the earth meaningless.
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be
ashamed and confounded: they shall be as
nothing; and they that
strive with thee shall perish.
Behold, all who
rage against you will be
ashamed and disgraced; those who
contend with you will be reduced to
nothing and will perish.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that
contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as
nothing, and as a thing of
nought.
You will seek them but will not find them. Those who
wage war against you will come to
nothing.
Behold, ye are of
nothing, and your work of
nought: an
abomination is he that chooseth you.
Behold, you are
nothing and your work is of no value.
Anyone who chooses you is
detestable.
For I
beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.
When I look, there is no one; there is no
counselor among them; when I ask them, they have
nothing to say.
Behold, they are all vanity; their works are
nothing: their
molten images are wind and confusion.
See, they are all a
delusion; their works amount to
nothing; their images are as empty as the wind.
They that make a
graven image are all of them vanity; and their
delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be
ashamed.
All makers of idols are
nothing, and the things they
treasure are worthless. Their witnesses fail to see or
comprehend, so they are put to shame.
Who hath formed a god, or
molten a
graven image that is profitable for
nothing?
Who fashions a god or casts an
idol which profits him
nothing?
For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold
yourselves for
nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.
For this is what the LORD says: “You were sold for nothing, and without money you will be redeemed.”
For thus hath the LORD of hosts said,
Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Cut down the trees and raise a siege
ramp against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; there is
nothing but oppression in her midst.
O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
Correct me, O LORD, but only with justice— not in Your anger, or You will bring me to nothing.
Then I went to Euphrates, and
digged, and took the
girdle from the place where I had
hid it: and, behold, the
girdle was
marred, it was profitable for
nothing.
So I went to Perath and
dug up the loincloth, and I took it from the place where I had hidden it. But now it was ruined—of no use at all.
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this
girdle, which is good for
nothing.
These evil people, who refuse to
listen to My words, who follow the
stubbornness of their own hearts, and who go after other gods to serve and worship them, they will be like this loincloth—of no use at all.
O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of
affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of distress, the nations will come to You from the ends of the earth, and they will say, “Our fathers inherited nothing but lies, worthless idols of no benefit at all.
But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy
covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
“But your eyes and heart are set on
nothing except your own
dishonest gain, on
shedding innocent blood, on practicing
extortion and oppression.”
Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is
nothing too hard for thee:
“Oh, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!
And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:
They came in and possessed it, but they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your law. They failed to perform all that You commanded them to do, and so You have brought upon them all this
disaster.
For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only
provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.
For the children of Israel and of Judah have done
nothing but evil in My sight from their youth; indeed, they have done
nothing but
provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the LORD.
Then
Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
“Here he is,” replied King
Zedekiah. “He is in your hands, since the king can do
nothing to stop you.”
Then
Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide
nothing from me.
Then King
Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the prophet and received him at the third entrance to the house of the LORD. “I am going to ask you something,” said the king to Jeremiah. “Do not hide anything from me.”
But Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
But Nebuzaradan left behind in the land of Judah some of the poor people who had no property, and at that time he gave them vineyards and fields.
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that
whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep
nothing back from you.
“I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will surely pray to the LORD your God as you request, and I will tell you everything that the LORD answers; I will not
withhold a word from you.”
Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold
nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.
Come against her from the
farthest border. Break open her
granaries; pile her up like mounds of grain.
Devote her to destruction; leave her no survivors.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the
folk in the fire, and they shall be
weary.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Babylon’s thick walls will be leveled, and her high gates consumed by fire. So the labor of the people will be for
nothing; the nations will
exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
Is it
nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me,
wherewith the LORD hath
afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
Is this nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look around and see! Is there any sorrow like mine, which was inflicted on me, which the LORD made me suffer on the day of His fierce anger?
Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of any of theirs: neither shall there be
wailing for them.
Their violence has grown into a rod to
punish their wickedness. None of them will remain: none of their multitude, none of their wealth, and
nothing of value.
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe unto the
foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen
nothing!
This is what the Lord GOD says:
Woe to the
foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, yet have seen
nothing.
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own
signet, and with the
signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own
signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that
nothing concerning Daniel could be changed.
And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
You have carried out the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us a great
disaster. For under all of heaven,
nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem.
And after
threescore and two weeks shall
Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Then after the sixty-two weeks the
Messiah will be cut off and will have
nothing. Then the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood, and until the end there will be war; desolations have been decreed.
Is there iniquity in
Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in
Gilgal;
yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
Is there iniquity in
Gilead? They will surely come to
nothing. Do they sacrifice bulls in
Gilgal? Indeed, their altars will be heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.
A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of
Eden before them, and behind them a
desolate wilderness;
yea, and
nothing shall escape them.
Before them a fire devours, and behind them a flame scorches. The land before them is like the Garden of
Eden, but behind them, it is like a desert wasteland— surely
nothing will escape them.
Will a lion
roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken
nothing?
Does a lion
roar in the forest when he has no prey? Does a young lion
growl in his den if he has caught
nothing?
Can a bird fall in a
snare upon the earth, where no
gin is for him? shall one take up a
snare from the earth, and have taken
nothing at all?
Does a bird land in a
snare where no
bait has been set? Does a
trap spring from the ground when it has
nothing to catch?
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Surely the Lord GOD does
nothing without
revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.
Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people
err, that
bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.
This is what the LORD says: “As for the prophets who lead My people
astray, who
proclaim peace while they
chew with their teeth, but declare war against one who puts
nothing in their mouths:
Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion’s
whelp, and none made them afraid?
Where is the lions’
lair or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and
lioness prowled with their cubs, with
nothing to
frighten them away?
And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and
punish the men that are settled on their
lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.
And at that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and
punish the men settled in
complacency, who say to themselves, ‘The LORD will do
nothing, either good or bad.’
