Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will
reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.
Nevertheless, I will bring to it health and
healing, and I will
heal its
people and
reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.
Considerest thou not what this
people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have
despised my
people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
“Have you not noticed what these
people are saying: ‘The LORD has rejected the two families He had chosen’? So they
despise My
people and no longer regard them as a nation.
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the
people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, all his army, all the earthly kingdoms under his control, and all the other nations were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities.
But thou shalt die in peace: and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and they will
lament thee, saying,
Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the LORD.
you will die in peace. As spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who preceded you, so
people will burn spices for you and
lament, ‘
Alas, O master!’ For I Myself have spoken this word, declares the LORD.”
This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king
Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the
people which were at Jerusalem, to
proclaim liberty unto them;
After King
Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the
people in Jerusalem to
proclaim liberty, the word came to Jeremiah from the LORD
Now when all the princes, and all the
people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his
manservant, and every one his
maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
So all the officials and all the
people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer hold them in
bondage. They obeyed and released them,
The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the
people of the land, which passed between the parts of the
calf;
The officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the court officials, the priests, and all the
people of the land who passed between the pieces of the
calf,
Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this
people hath not
hearkened unto me:
Yes, the sons of Jonadab son of Rechab carried out the command their
forefather gave them, but these
people have not
listened to Me.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Perhaps when the
people of Judah hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the hearing of the
people you are to read the words of the LORD from the
scroll you have written at my
dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the
people of Judah who are coming from their cities.
It may be they will present their
supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the
fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this
people.
Perhaps they will bring their petition before the LORD, and each one will turn from his wicked way; for great are the anger and
fury that the LORD has pronounced against this
people.”
And it came to pass in the fifth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the
people in Jerusalem, and to all the
people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
Now in the ninth month of the fifth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, a fast before the LORD was proclaimed to all the
people of Jerusalem and all who had come there from the cities of Judah.
Then read
Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the
scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the
people.
From the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the
scribe, which was in the upper
courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the LORD,
Baruch read from the
scroll the words of Jeremiah in the hearing of all the
people.
Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when
Baruch read the book in the ears of the
people.
And Micaiah reported to them all the words he had heard
Baruch read from the
scroll in the hearing of the
people.
Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto
Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the
people, and come. So
Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
Then all the officials sent word to
Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the
scroll that you read in the hearing of the
people, and come here.” So
Baruch son of Neriah took the
scroll and went to them.
But neither he, nor his servants, nor the
people of the land, did
hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
But he and his officers and the people of the land refused to obey the words that the LORD had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet.
Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.
Now Jeremiah was free to come and go among the people, for they had not yet put him in prison.
Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there among the people.
Moreover Jeremiah said unto king
Zedekiah, What have I
offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this
people, that ye have put me in prison?
Then Jeremiah asked King
Zedekiah, “How have I
sinned against you or your servants or these
people, that you have put me in prison?
Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
Now Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchijah heard that Jeremiah had been telling all the people:
Therefore the princes said unto the king, We
beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the
people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the
welfare of this
people, but the
hurt.
Then the officials said to the king, “This man ought to die, for he is discouraging the warriors who remain in this city, as well as all the people, by speaking such words to them; this man is not seeking the well-being of these people, but their ruin.”
And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house, and the houses of the
people, with fire, and
brake down the walls of Jerusalem.
The Chaldeans set fire to the palace of the king and to the houses of the people, and they broke down the walls of Jerusalem.
Then Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carried away
captive into Babylon the
remnant of the
people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to him, with the rest of the
people that remained.
Then Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried away to Babylon the
remnant of the
people who had remained in the city, along with the deserters who had defected to him.
But Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
But Nebuzaradan left behind in the land of Judah some of the poor people who had no property, and at that time he gave them vineyards and fields.
Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the
people.
had Jeremiah brought from the
courtyard of the guard, and they turned him over to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So Jeremiah remained among his own
people.
Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have
sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.
and now the LORD has fulfilled it; He has done just as He said. Because you
people have
sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed His voice, this thing has happened to you.
Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the
people: or go
wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him
victuals and a reward, and let him go.
But before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added, “Return to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the
people, or go
anywhere else that seems right.” Then the captain of the guard gave him a
ration and a gift and released him.
Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam to
Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the
people that were left in the land.
So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam at
Mizpah and stayed with him among the
people who were left in the land.
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in
Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will
slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he
slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the
remnant in Judah perish?
Then Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at
Mizpah. “Let me go and kill
Ishmael son of Nethaniah,” he said. “No one will know it. Why should he take your life and
scatter all the
people of Judah who have gathered to you, so that the
remnant of Judah would perish?”
Then
Ishmael carried away
captive all the residue of the
people that were in
Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the
people that remained in
Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam: and
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away
captive, and departed to go over to the
Ammonites.
Now it came to pass, that when all the
people which were with
Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were
glad.
When all the
people with
Ishmael saw Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the army with him, they
rejoiced,
So all the
people that
Ishmael had carried away
captive from
Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
and all the
people whom
Ishmael had taken
captive at
Mizpah turned and went over to Johanan son of Kareah.
Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the
remnant of the
people whom he had recovered from
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from
Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from
Gibeon:
Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him took the whole
remnant of the
people from
Mizpah whom he had recovered from
Ishmael son of Nethaniah after
Ishmael had killed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam: the soldiers, women, children, and court officials he had brought back from
Gibeon.
Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,
Then all the commanders of the forces, along with Johanan son of Kareah, Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest, approached
Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
and he summoned Johanan son of Kareah, all the commanders of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.
And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,
When Jeremiah had finished telling all the people all the words of the LORD their God—everything that the LORD had sent him to say—
So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the LORD, to dwell in the land of Judah.
So Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces disobeyed the command of the LORD to stay in the land of Judah.
Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,
Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, and all the women standing by—a great assembly—along with all the people living in the land of Egypt and in Pathros, said to Jeremiah,
Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,
Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him,
The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?
“As for the incense you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem—you, your fathers, your kings, your officials, and the people of the land—did the LORD not remember and bring this to mind?
Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “Hear the word of the LORD, all those of Judah who are in the land of Egypt.
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you
people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any man of Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.
Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters
churn like rivers,
boasting, ‘I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy the cities and their
people.’
He made many to fall,
yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own
people, and to the land of our
nativity, from the
oppressing sword.
They continue to
stumble; indeed, they have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our
people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the
oppressor.’
The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
The Daughter of Egypt will be put to shame; she will be delivered into the hands of the people of the north.”
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall
howl.
This is what the LORD says: “See how the waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing
torrent. They will overflow the land and its fullness, the cities and their inhabitants. The
people will cry out, and all who dwell in the land will
wail There shall be no more praise of Moab: in
Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O
Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
There is no longer praise for Moab; in
Heshbon they
devise evil against her: ‘Come, let us cut her off from nationhood.’ You too, O
people of
Madmen, will be silenced; the sword will pursue you.
And Moab shall be destroyed from being a
people, because he hath
magnified himself against the LORD.
Moab will be destroyed as a nation because he
vaunted himself against the LORD.
Woe to you, O Moab! The
people of
Chemosh have perished; for your sons have been taken into exile and your daughters have gone into captivity.
Concerning the
Ammonites, thus saith the LORD; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then
doth their king
inherit Gad, and his
people dwell in his cities?
Concerning the
Ammonites, this is what the LORD says: “Has Israel no sons? Is he without heir? Why then has Milcom taken possession of
Gad? Why have his
people settled in their cities?
Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against
Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations
desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against
Edom and the strategies He has devised against the
people of Teman: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
Concerning
Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall
smite, thus saith the LORD; Arise ye, go up to
Kedar, and
spoil the men of the east.
Concerning
Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated, this is what the LORD says: “Rise up, advance against
Kedar, and destroy the
people of the east!
My
people hath been lost sheep: their
shepherds have caused them to go
astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.
My
people are lost sheep; their
shepherds have led them
astray, causing them to
roam the mountains. They have
wandered from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the
sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the
oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his
people, and they shall
flee every one to his own land.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the
sickle at harvest time. In the face of the
oppressor’s sword, each will turn to his own
people, each will
flee to his own land.
A sword is upon their horses, and upon their
chariots, and upon all the mingled
people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be
robbed.
A sword is against her horses and
chariots and against all the foreigners in her midst, and they will become like women. A sword is against her
treasuries, and they will be
plundered.
A
drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of
graven images, and they are
mad upon their idols.
A
drought is upon her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is a land of
graven images, and the
people go
mad over idols.
Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
Behold, an army is coming from the north; a great nation and many kings are
stirred up from the ends of the earth.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will
stir up against Babylon and against the
people of Leb-kamai the spirit of a destroyer.
Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the
watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.
Raise a
banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the
watchmen; prepare the
ambush. For the LORD has both devised and accomplished what He spoke against the
people of Babylon.
My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Come out of her, My people! Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the
people shall labour in vain, and the
folk in the fire, and they shall be
weary.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Babylon’s thick walls will be leveled, and her high gates consumed by fire. So the labor of the
people will be for nothing; the nations will
exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be
weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
Then you are to say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and never rise again, because of the
disaster I will bring upon her. And her
people will grow
weary.’” Here end the words of Jeremiah.
And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was
sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the
people of the land.
By the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine in the city was so severe that the people of the land had no food.
Then Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carried away
captive certain of the poor of the
people, and the residue of the
people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude.
Then Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried into exile some of the poorest
people and those who remained in the city, along with the deserters who had defected to the king of Babylon and the rest of the
craftsmen.
He took also out of the city an
eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of them that were near the king’s person, which were found in the city; and the principal
scribe of the host, who
mustered the
people of the land; and
threescore men of the
people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city.
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as seven trusted royal advisers. He also took the
scribe of the captain of the army, who had
enlisted the
people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
This is the
people whom Nebuchadrezzar carried away
captive: in the seventh year three thousand Jews and three and twenty:
These are the
people Nebuchadnezzar carried away: in the seventh year, 3,023 Jews;
In the
eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar he carried away
captive from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty and two persons:
In the three and
twentieth year of Nebuchadrezzar Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carried away
captive of the Jews seven hundred forty and five persons: all the persons were four thousand and six hundred.
in
Nebuchadnezzar’s twenty-third year, Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried away 745 Jews. So in all, 4,600
people were taken away.
How
doth the city sit solitary, that was full of
people how is she become as a widow she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary
How
lonely lies the city, once so full of
people! She who was great among the nations has become a widow. The princess of the provinces has become a slave.
Jerusalem remembered in the days of her
affliction and of her
miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her
people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the
adversaries saw her, and did
mock at her sabbaths.
In the days of her
affliction and wandering Jerusalem remembers all the treasures that were hers in days of old. When her
people fell into enemy hands she received no help. Her enemies looked upon her,
laughing at her
downfall.
All her
people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to
relieve the soul: see, O LORD, and consider; for I am become
vile.
All her
people groan as they search for bread. They have traded their treasures for food to keep themselves alive. Look, O LORD, and consider, for I have become
despised.
The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against His command.
Listen, all you
people; look upon my suffering. My young men and maidens have gone into captivity.
They have heard that I
sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that thou hast done it: thou
wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
People have heard my
groaning, but there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that You have caused it. May You bring the day You have
announced, so that they may become like me.
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my
bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my
people; because the children and the sucklings
swoon in the streets of the city.
My eyes fail from
weeping; I am
churning within. My heart is poured out in grief over the destruction of the daughter of my
people, because children and infants
faint in the streets of the city.
Their heart
cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of
Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give
thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.
The hearts of the
people cry out to the Lord. O wall of the Daughter of
Zion, let your tears run down like a river day and night. Give
yourself no relief, and your eyes no rest.
I was a
derision to all my
people; and their song all the day.
Thou hast made us as the
offscouring and refuse in the midst of the
people.
You have made us
scum and refuse among the nations.
Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Streams of tears flow from my eyes over the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give
suck to their young ones: the daughter of my
people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
Even jackals offer their breasts to
nurse their young, but the daughter of my
people has become cruel, like an
ostrich in the wilderness.
For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my
people is greater than the punishment of the sin of
Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
The punishment of the daughter of my
people is greater than that of
Sodom, which was overthrown in an instant without a hand turned to help her.
The hands of the
pitiful women have
sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my
people.
The hands of
compassionate women have
cooked their own children, who became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my
people.
The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the
adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.
The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any
people of the world, that an enemy or a
foe could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel;
For you are not being sent to a people of unfamiliar speech or difficult language, but to the house of Israel—
Not to many
people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have
hearkened unto thee.
not to the many
peoples of unfamiliar speech and difficult language whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have
listened to you.
And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy
people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear.
Go to your
people, the exiles; speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:
And you, son of man, they will
tie with ropes, and you will be bound so that you cannot go out among the
people.
And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt
bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight.
And you shall eat the food as you would a barley
cake, after you
bake it over dried human
excrement in the sight of the
people.”
And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.
But she has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against My statutes worse than the countries around her. For her people have rejected My ordinances and have not walked in My statutes.’
A third part of thee shall die with the
pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee: and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee and I will
scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them.
A third of your
people will die by plague or be consumed by famine within you, a third will fall by the sword outside your walls, and a third I will
scatter to every wind and
unleash a sword behind them.
The king shall
mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with
desolation, and the hands of the
people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
The king will
mourn, the prince will be clothed with
despair, and the hands of the
people of the land will
tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and I will judge them by their own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
Moreover the spirit lifted me up, and brought me unto the east gate of the LORD’S house, which looketh eastward: and behold at the door of the gate five and twenty men; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, the princes of the people.
Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the LORD that faces east. And there at the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men. Among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, who were leaders of the people.
Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.
“Son of man, your brothers—your relatives, your fellow exiles, and the whole house of Israel—are those of whom the people of Jerusalem have said, ‘They are far away from the LORD; this land has been given to us as a possession.’
Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the
people, and
assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
Therefore declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will gather you from the
peoples and
assemble you from the countries to which you have been scattered, and I will give back to you the land of Israel.’
That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
so that they may follow My statutes, keep My ordinances, and practice them. Then they will be My people, and I will be their God.
And say unto the
people of the land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulness, and drink their water with
astonishment, that her land may be
desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein.
Then tell the
people of the land that this is what the Lord GOD says about those living in Jerusalem and in the land of Israel: ‘They will eat their bread with
anxiety and drink their water in
dread, for their land will be
stripped of everything in it because of the violence of all who dwell in it.
And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of My people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
Because, even because they have
seduced my
people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others
daubed it with untempered
morter:
Because they have led My
people astray, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and
whitewashing any
flimsy wall that is built,
Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy
people, which
prophesy out of their own heart; and
prophesy thou against them,
Now, O son of man, set your face against the daughters of your
people who
prophesy out of their own imagination.
Prophesy against them
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe to the women that
sew pillows to all armholes, and make
kerchiefs upon the head of every
stature to
hunt souls! Will ye
hunt the souls of my
people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says:
Woe to the women who
sew magic charms on their wrists and make veils for the heads of
people of every height, in order to
ensnare their souls. Will you
ensnare the souls of My
people but preserve your own?
