pottage; for I am
faint: therefore was his name called
Edom.
He said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red
stew, for I am
famished.” (That is why he was also called
Edom.)

And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him
overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal
attendant.
Potiphar put him in charge of his household and entrusted him with everything he owned.
And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
So
Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s care; he did not
concern himself with anything except the food he
ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,
And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he
hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
Although Potiphar’s wife spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be near her.
And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.
So
Potiphar’s wife kept Joseph’s
cloak beside her until his master came home.
And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnath-paaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of
Poti-pherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of
Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.

And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born
Manasseh and Ephraim, which Asenath the daughter of
Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.
Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt by Asenath daughter of
Potiphera, priest of On.
And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
“If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!” they said. “There we sat by
pots of meat and
ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into this desert to
starve this whole assembly to death!”
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a
pot, and put an
omer full of
manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
So Moses told Aaron, “Take a
jar and fill it with an
omer of
manna. Then place it before the LORD to be preserved for the generations to come.”
And thou shalt make his pans to receive his ashes, and his shovels, and his basons, and his fleshhooks, and his firepans: all the vessels thereof thou shalt make of brass.

pots for removing ashes, its shovels, its
sprinkling bowls, its meat forks, and its firepans.
And he made all the vessels of the altar, the pots, and the shovels, and the basons, and the fleshhooks, and the firepans: all the vessels thereof made he of brass.
He made all the altar’s utensils of bronze—its
pots, shovels,
sprinkling bowls, meat forks, and firepans.
The clay
pot in which the sin offering is boiled must be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze
pot, the
pot must be
scoured and
rinsed with water.
If any of them falls into a clay pot, everything in it will be unclean; you must break the pot.
Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water cometh shall be unclean: and all drink that may be
drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean.
Any food coming into contact with water from that pot will be unclean, and any drink in such a container will be unclean.
And every thing
whereupon any part of their
carcase falleth shall be unclean; whether it be
oven, or ranges for
pots, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you.
Anything upon which one of their
carcasses falls will be unclean. If it is an
oven or
cooking pot, it must be
smashed; it is unclean and will remain unclean for you.
And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an
earthen vessel over running water:
Then the priest shall command that one of the birds be slaughtered over fresh water in a clay pot.
And he shall kill the one of the birds in an
earthen vessel over running water:
and he shall slaughter one of the birds over fresh water in a clay pot.
And the vessel of earth, that he toucheth which hath the issue, shall be broken: and every vessel of wood shall be
rinsed in water.
Any clay
pot that the man with the discharge touches must be broken, and any wooden
utensil must be
rinsed with water.
And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and
baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
The people walked around and gathered it, ground it on a
handmill or
crushed it in a mortar, then boiled it in a
cooking pot or shaped it into cakes. It tasted like
pastry baked with fine oil.
And
Gideon went in, and made ready a
kid, and
unleavened cakes of an
ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a
basket, and he put the
broth in a
pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
So
Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and
unleavened bread and an
ephah of flour. He placed the meat in a
basket and the
broth in a
pot and brought them out to present to Him under the oak.
And he struck it into the pan, or
kettle, or
caldron, or
pot; all that the
fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in
Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
and
plunge it into the pan or
kettle or cauldron or
cooking pot. And the priest would claim for himself whatever the meat
fork brought up. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to
Shiloh.
And
Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So
Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the house of the LORD:
Additionally, Huram made the
pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. So Huram finished all the work that he had undertaken for King Solomon in the house of the LORD:
And the
pots, and the shovels, and the basons: and all these vessels, which
Hiram made to king Solomon for the house of the LORD, were of bright brass.
and the
pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. All the articles that Huram made for King Solomon in the house of the LORD were made of
burnished bronze.
And
Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine
handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a
pot of oil.
“How can I help you?” asked
Elisha. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered, “Your servant has nothing in the house but a
jar of oil.”
And
Elisha came again to
Gilgal: and there was a
dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great
pot, and
seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
When
Elisha returned to
Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting at his feet, he said to his
attendant, “Put on the large
pot and
boil some
stew for the sons of the prophets.”
And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his
lap full, and came and
shred them into the
pot of
pottage: for they knew them not.
One of them went out to the field to gather herbs, and he found a wild vine from which he gathered as many wild gourds as his garment could hold. Then he came back and cut them up into the
pot of
stew, though no one knew what they were.
So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the
pottage, that they
cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the
pot. And they could not eat thereof.
And they poured it out for the men to eat, but when they tasted the
stew they
cried out, “There is death in the
pot, O man of God!” And they could not eat it.
But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the
pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no
harm in the
pot.
Then
Elisha said, “Get some flour.” He threw it into the
pot and said, “Pour it out for the people to eat.” And there was nothing
harmful in the
pot.
And the
pots, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass
wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the
pots, shovels,
wick trimmers, dishes, and all the articles of bronze used in the temple service.
These were the potters, and those that dwelt among plants and hedges: there they dwelt with the king for his work.
These were the potters who lived at Netaim and Gederah. They lived there in the service of the king.
And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons. And Huram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God;
Additionally, Huram made the
pots, shovels, and
sprinkling bowls. So Huram finished the work that he had undertaken for King Solomon in the house of God:
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
And they
roasted the
passover with fire according to the
ordinance: but the other holy offerings
sod they in
pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them speedily among all the people.
They
roasted the
Passover animals on the fire according to the regulation, and they boiled the other holy offerings in
pots, kettles, and
bowls and quickly brought them to all the people.
And Job took a piece of broken
pottery to
scrape himself as he sat among the ashes.
Smoke billows from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over burning reeds.
Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the
mire.
He maketh the deep to
boil like a
pot: he maketh the sea like a
pot of
ointment.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt
dash them in pieces like a
potter’s vessel.
You will break them with an iron
scepter; You will
shatter them like
pottery.”
My strength is dried up like a
potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
My strength is dried up like a
potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You lay me in the dust of death.
Before your
pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a
whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.
Before your
pots can feel the burning thorns— whether green or dry— He will
sweep them away.
Though ye have
lien among the
pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a
dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold.
Though you lie down among the sheepfolds, the wings of the
dove are covered with silver, and her feathers with
shimmering gold.”
I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
“I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the
basket.
The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
A
crucible for silver and a furnace for gold, but the LORD is the tester of hearts.
Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a
potsherd covered with silver
dross.
Like
glaze covering an
earthen vessel are burning lips and a wicked heart.
As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
A
crucible for silver and a furnace for gold, but a man is tested by the praise
accorded him.
Surely your turning of things
upside down shall be esteemed as the
potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?
You have turned things
upside down, as if the
potter were regarded as clay. Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, “He did not make me”? Can the
pottery say of the
potter, “He has no understanding”?
And he shall break it as the breaking of the
potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not
spare: so that there shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the pit.
I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon
morter, and as the
potter treadeth clay.
I have raised up one from the north, and he has come— one from the east who calls on My name. He will march over rulers as if they were mortar, like a
potter who treads the clay.
Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the
potsherd strive with the
potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker— one clay
pot among many. Does the clay ask the
potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘He has no hands’?
But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and
widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy
sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
These two things will overtake you in a moment, in a single day: loss of children, and
widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many
sorceries and the
potency of your spells.
But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our
potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are the
potter; we are all the work of Your hand.
And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a
seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
Again the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “What do you see?” “I see a boiling
pot,” I replied, “and it is
tilting toward us from the north.”
Arise, and go down to the
potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
“Go down at once to the
potter’s house, and there I will
reveal My message to you.”
Then I went down to the
potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
So I went down to the
potter’s house and saw him working at the wheel.
And the vessel that he made of clay was
marred in the hand of the
potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the
potter to make it.
But the vessel that he was shaping from the clay became
flawed in his hand; so he formed it into another vessel, as it seemed best for him to do.
O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this
potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the
potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
“O house of Israel, declares the LORD, can I not treat you as this
potter treats his clay? Just like clay in the
potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.
Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a
potter’s
earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;
This is what the LORD says: “Go and
buy a clay
jar from a
potter. Take some of the elders of the people and leaders of the priests,
And go forth unto the valley of the son of
Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and
proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,
and go out to the Valley of Ben-
hinnom near the entrance of the
Potsherd Gate.
Proclaim there the words I speak to you,
And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a
potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall
bury them in
Tophet, till there be no place to
bury.
and you are to
proclaim to them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I will
shatter this nation and this city, like one
shatters a
potter’s
jar that can never again be repaired. They will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room to
bury them.
Is this man Coniah a
despised broken
idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
Is this man Coniah a
despised and
shattered pot, a
jar that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants
hurled out and cast into a land they do not know?
Howl, ye
shepherds, and cry; and
wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.
Wail, you
shepherds, and cry out; roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock. For the days of your slaughter have come; you will fall and be
shattered like fine
pottery.
And I set before the sons of the house of the
Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.
Then I set pitchers full of wine and some cups before the men of the house of the
Rechabites, and I said to them, “Drink some wine.”
The caldrons also, and the shovels, and the
snuffers, and the
bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass
wherewith they ministered, took they away.
They also took away the
pots, shovels,
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, dishes, and all the articles of bronze used in the temple service.
And the basons, and the firepans, and the
bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups; that which was of gold in gold, and that which was of silver in silver, took the captain of the guard away.
The captain of the guard also took away the basins, censers,
sprinkling bowls,
pots, lampstands, pans, and drink offering
bowls—anything made of pure gold or fine silver.
The precious sons of
Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as
earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the
potter!
How the precious sons of
Zion, once worth their weight in pure gold, are now esteemed as jars of clay, the work of a
potter’s hands!
Which say, It is not near; let us build houses: this city is the
caldron, and we be the flesh.
They are saying, ‘Is not the time near to build houses? The city is the
cooking pot, and we are the meat.’
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Your slain whom ye have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this city is the
caldron: but I will bring you forth out of the midst of it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: The slain you have laid within this city are the meat, and the city is the pot; but I will remove you from it.
This city shall not be your
caldron, neither shall ye be the flesh in the midst thereof; but I will judge you in the border of Israel:
The city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be the meat within it. I will judge you even to the borders of Israel.
And utter a parable unto the
rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a
pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:
Now speak a parable to this
rebellious house and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Put the
pot on the fire; put it on and pour in the water.
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe to the
bloody city, to the
pot whose
scum is therein, and whose
scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall up on it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘
Woe to the city of
bloodshed, to the
pot now
rusted, whose
rust will not come off! Empty it piece by piece; cast no lots for its contents.
Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the
filthiness of it may be
molten in it, that the
scum of it may be consumed.
Set the empty
pot on its coals until it becomes hot and its copper glows. Then its impurity will
melt within; its
rust will be consumed.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of
potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron,
forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with
miry clay.
And just as you saw that the feet and toes were made partly of fired clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom, yet some of the strength of iron will be in it—just as you saw the iron mixed with clay.
Who also eat the flesh of my people, and
flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and
chop them in pieces, as for the
pot, and as flesh within the
caldron.
You eat the flesh of my people after
stripping off their skin and breaking their bones. You
chop them up like flesh for the
cooking pot, like meat in a cauldron.”
If one bear holy flesh in the
skirt of his garment, and with his
skirt do touch bread, or
pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
If a man carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread,
stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does that
item become holy?’” “No,” replied the priests.
And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the
potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the
potter in the house of the LORD.
And the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the
potter”—this magnificent price at which they valued me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the
potter in the house of the LORD.
In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses,
HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the
pots in the LORD’S house shall be like the
bowls before the altar.
On that day, HOLY TO THE LORD will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the
cooking pots in the house of the LORD will be like the
sprinkling bowls before the altar.
Yea, every
pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be
holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and
seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
Indeed, every
pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the LORD of Hosts, and all who sacrifice will come and take some
pots and
cook in them. And on that day there will no longer be a
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of Hosts.
And they took counsel, and bought with them the
potter’s field, to
bury strangers in.
After
conferring together, they used the money to
buy the
potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
And gave them for the
potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
and they gave them for the
potter’s field, as the Lord had commanded me.”
And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and
pots,
brasen vessels, and of tables.
And on returning from the market, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions for them to observe, including the washing of cups, pitchers, kettles, and couches for
dining.
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
You have disregarded the commandment of God to keep the tradition of men.”
Hath not the
potter power over the clay, of the same
lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Does not the
potter have the right to make from the same
lump of clay one vessel for special occasions and another for common use?
Which in his times he shall
shew, who is the blessed and only
Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
which the blessed and only Sovereign One—the King of kings and Lord of lords—will bring about in His own time.
Which had the golden
censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden
pot that had
manna, and Aaron’s rod that
budded, and the tables of the covenant;
containing the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. Inside the ark were the gold
jar of
manna, Aaron’s staff that had
budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a
potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
He will rule them with an iron
scepter and
shatter them like
pottery—just as I have received authority from My Father.
And they
roasted the
passover with fire, as appertaineth: as for the sacrifices, they
sod them in brass
pots and pans with a good savour,
For the
potter, tempering soft earth, fashioneth every vessel with much labour for our service:
yea, of the same clay he maketh both the vessels that serve for clean uses, and likewise also all such as serve to the contrary: but what is the use of either sort, the
potter himself is the judge.
Great men, and judges, and potentates, shall be honoured; yet is there none of them greater than he that feareth the Lord.
Burden not
thyself above thy power while thou livest; and have no
fellowship with one that is mightier and richer than
thyself: for how agree the
kettle and the
earthen pot together? for if the one be
smitten against the other, it shall be broken.
Whoso teacheth a
fool is as one that glueth a
potsherd together, and as he that waketh one from a sound sleep.
The furnace proveth the
potter’s vessels; so the trial of man is in his reasoning.
As the clay is in the
potter’s hand, to fashion it at his pleasure: so man is in the hand of him that made him, to render to them as liketh him best.
So
doth the
potter sitting at his work, and turning the wheel about with his feet, who is
alway carefully set at his work, and maketh all his work by number;
Now there was in
Jewry a prophet, called Habbacuc, who had made
pottage, and had broken bread in a
bowl, and was going into the field, for to bring it to the reapers.
