torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand
didst thou require it, whether
stolen by day, or
stolen by night.

torn by
wild beasts; I bore the loss myself. And you demanded payment from me for what was
stolen by day or night.

Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the
wilderness and came to
Horeb, the mountain of God.

hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we
beseech thee, three days’ journey into the
wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.
The elders of Israel will

But God led the people about, through the way of the
wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up
harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us into the wilderness to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
Did we not say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into this desert to
starve this whole assembly to death!”

And when the
dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the
wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the
hoar frost on the ground.

frost on the ground.
And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an
omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread

omer of
manna for the generations to come, so that they may see the bread I fed you in the
wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”

encamped at the mountain of God.
In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the
wilderness of
Sinai.
In the third month, on the same day of the month that the Israelites had left the land of Egypt, they came to the
Wilderness of
Sinai.
For they were departed from
Rephidim, and were come to the desert of
Sinai, and had pitched in the
wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
After they had set out from
Rephidim, they entered the
Wilderness of
Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain.
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy
vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie
fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the field and the
wild animals may
consume what they leave. Do the same with your
vineyard and olive
grove.
I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become
desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
I will not drive them out before you in a single year; otherwise the land would become
desolate and
wild animals would multiply against you.
And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)
Moses saw that the people were out of control, for Aaron had let them run
wild and become a
laughingstock to their enemies.
Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a
carcase of an unclean beast, or a
carcase of unclean cattle, or the
carcase of unclean
creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.
Or if a person touches anything unclean—whether the
carcass of any unclean
wild animal or
livestock or
crawling creature—even if he is unaware of it, he is unclean and guilty.
And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is
torn with beasts, may be used in any other use: but ye shall in no wise eat of it.
The fat of an animal found dead or
mauled by
wild beasts may be used for any other purpose, but you must not eat it.
Which the LORD commanded Moses in mount
Sinai, in the day that he commanded the children of Israel to offer their oblations unto the LORD, in the
wilderness of
Sinai.
which the LORD gave Moses on Mount
Sinai on the day He commanded the Israelites to present their offerings to the LORD in the
Wilderness of
Sinai.
But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the
scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an
atonement with him, and to let him go for a
scapegoat into the
wilderness.
But the goat chosen by lot as the
scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD to make
atonement by sending it into the
wilderness as the
scapegoat.
And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and
confess over him all the
iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the
wilderness:
Then he is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and
confess over it all the
iniquities and
rebellious acts of the Israelites in regard to all their sins. He is to put them on the goat’s head and send it away into the
wilderness by the hand of a man appointed for the task.
And the goat shall bear upon him all their
iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the
wilderness.
The goat will carry on itself all their
iniquities into a solitary place, and the man will release it into the
wilderness.
And
whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that
sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.
And if any
Israelite or foreigner living among them hunts down a
wild animal or bird that may be eaten, he must
drain its blood and cover it with
dirt.
And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was
torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
And any person, whether native or foreigner, who eats anything found dead or
mauled by
wild beasts must wash his clothes and
bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening; then he will be clean.
That which dieth of itself, or is
torn with beasts, he shall not eat to
defile himself
therewith: I am the LORD.
He must not eat anything found dead or
torn by
wild animals, which would make him unclean. I am the LORD.
And for thy cattle, and for the beast that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat.
and for your
livestock and the
wild animals in your land. All its growth may serve as food.
I will also send
wild beasts among you, which shall
rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be
desolate.
I will send
wild animals against you to
rob you of your children, destroy your
livestock, and reduce your numbers, until your roads lie
desolate.
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the
wilderness of
Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
On the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites had come out of the land of Egypt, the LORD spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting in the
Wilderness of
Sinai. He said:
As the LORD commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the
wilderness of
Sinai.
just as the LORD had commanded Moses. So Moses numbered them in the
Wilderness of
Sinai:
And
Nadab and
Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the
wilderness of
Sinai, and they had no children: and
Eleazar and
Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father.
Nadab and
Abihu, however, died in the presence of the LORD when they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD in the
Wilderness of
Sinai. And since they had no sons, only
Eleazar and
Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the
wilderness of
Sinai, saying,
Then the LORD spoke to Moses in the
Wilderness of
Sinai, saying,
And the LORD spake unto Moses in the
wilderness of
Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
In the first month of the second year after Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, the LORD spoke to Moses in the
Wilderness of
Sinai:
And they kept the
passover on the
fourteenth day of the first month at even in the
wilderness of
Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.
and they did so in the
Wilderness of
Sinai, at
twilight on the
fourteenth day of the first month. The Israelites did everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the
wilderness of
Sinai; and the cloud rested in the
wilderness of
Paran.
and the Israelites set out from the
Wilderness of
Sinai, traveling from place to place until the cloud settled in the
Wilderness of
Paran.
And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee;
forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to
encamp in the
wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.
“Please do not leave us,” Moses said, “since you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can serve as our eyes.
And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the
wilderness of
Paran.
After that, the people set out from Hazeroth and camped in the
Wilderness of
Paran.
And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the
wilderness of
Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
So at the consent of the LORD, Moses sent them out from the
Wilderness of
Paran. All the men were leaders of the Israelites,
So they went up, and searched the land from the
wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to
Hamath.
So they went up and
spied out the land from the
Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo-
hamath.
And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the
wilderness of
Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
and they went back to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel in the
Wilderness of
Paran at Kadesh. They brought back a report for the whole congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.
And all the children of Israel
murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this
wilderness!
All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!
Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he
sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the
wilderness.
‘Because the LORD was unable to bring this people into the land He
swore to give them, He has slaughtered them in the
wilderness.’
Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the
wilderness, and have
tempted me now these ten times, and have not
hearkened to my voice;
not one of the men who have seen My glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness—yet have tested Me and disobeyed Me these ten times—
(Now the
Amalekites and the
Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To
morrow turn you, and get you into the
wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
Now since the
Amalekites and
Canaanites are living in the valleys, turn back
tomorrow and head for the
wilderness along the route to the Red Sea.”
Your carcases shall fall in this
wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have
murmured against me,
Your bodies will fall in this
wilderness—all who were numbered in the census,
everyone twenty years of age or older—because you have grumbled against Me.
But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
As for you, however, your bodies will fall in this wilderness.
And your children shall
wander in the
wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the
wilderness.
Your children will be
shepherds in the
wilderness for forty years, and they will suffer for your unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lies in the
wilderness.
I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this entire wicked congregation, which has
conspired against Me. They will meet their end in the
wilderness, and there they will die.”
And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day.
Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the
wilderness, except thou make
thyself altogether a prince over us?
Is it not enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the
wilderness? Must you also
appoint yourself as ruler over us?
Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and
Miriam died there, and was buried there.
In the first month, the whole congregation of Israel entered the
Wilderness of Zin and stayed in Kadesh. There
Miriam died and was buried.
And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
Why have you brought the LORD’s assembly into this
wilderness for us and our
livestock to die here?
And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
and spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you led us up out of Egypt to die in the
wilderness? There is no bread or water, and we
detest this
wretched food!”
And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the
wilderness which is before Moab, toward the
sunrising.
They journeyed from Oboth and camped at Iye-abarim in the wilderness opposite Moab to the east.
From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of
Arnon, which is in the
wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the
Amorites: for
Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the
Amorites.
From there they moved on and camped on the other side of the
Arnon, in the
wilderness that extends into the Amorite territory. Now the
Arnon is the border between the Moabites and the
Amorites.
The princes
digged the well, the nobles of the people
digged it, by the direction of the
lawgiver, with their
staves. And from the
wilderness they went to Mattanah:
The princes
dug the well; the nobles of the people hollowed it out with their scepters and with their staffs.” From the
wilderness the Israelites went on to Mattanah,
And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
But Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. Instead, he gathered his whole army and went out to
confront Israel in the
wilderness. When he came to Jahaz, he fought against Israel.
God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an
unicorn.
God brought them out of Egypt with strength like a wild ox.
And when
Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to
bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the
wilderness.
And when
Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to
bless Israel, he did not resort to
sorcery as on previous occasions, but he turned his face toward the
wilderness.
God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an
unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and
pierce them through with his arrows.
God brought him out of Egypt with strength like a
wild ox, to
devour hostile nations and
crush their bones, to
pierce them with arrows.
But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the
wilderness of
Sinai.
Among all these, however, there was not one who had been numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they counted the Israelites in the
Wilderness of
Sinai.
For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the
wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save
Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of
Nun.
For the LORD had told them that they would surely die in the
wilderness. Not one was left except
Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of
Nun.
Our father died in the
wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of
Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
“Our father died in the
wilderness, but he was not among the followers of
Korah who gathered together against the LORD. Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons.
For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the
strife of the congregation, to
sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the
wilderness of Zin.
for when the congregation
contended in the
Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against My command to show My
holiness in their sight regarding the waters.” Those were the waters of Meribah in Kadesh, in the
Wilderness of Zin.
And the LORD’S anger was
kindled against Israel, and he made them
wander in the
wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.
The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He made them
wander in the
wilderness forty years, until the whole generation who had done evil in His sight was gone.
For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
For if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”
And they departed from Succoth, and pitched in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness.
They set out from Succoth and camped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.
And they departed from before
Pi-hahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the
wilderness, and went three days’ journey in the
wilderness of Etham, and pitched in
Marah.
They set out from
Pi-hahiroth and crossed through the sea, into the
wilderness, and they journeyed three days into the
Wilderness of Etham and camped at
Marah.
And they removed from the Red sea, and
encamped in the
wilderness of Sin.
They set out from the Red Sea and camped in the Desert of Sin.
And they took their journey out of the
wilderness of Sin, and
encamped in Dophkah.
They set out from the Desert of Sin and camped at Dophkah.
And they departed from
Rephidim, and pitched in the
wilderness of
Sinai.
They set out from
Rephidim and camped in the
Wilderness of
Sinai.
And they removed from the desert of
Sinai, and pitched at
Kibroth-hattaavah.
They set out from the
Wilderness of
Sinai and camped at
Kibroth-hattaavah.
And they removed from Ezion-gaber, and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.
They set out from Ezion-
geber and camped at Kadesh in the
Wilderness of Zin.
Then your south quarter shall be from the
wilderness of Zin along by the coast of
Edom, and your south border shall be the outmost coast of the salt sea eastward:
Your southern border will extend from the
Wilderness of Zin along the border of
Edom. On the east, your southern border will run from the end of the Salt Sea,
These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the
wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between
Paran, and Tophel, and
Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
These are the words that Moses spoke to all Israel in the
wilderness east of the Jordan—in the Arabah opposite Suph—between
Paran and Tophel,
Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
And when we departed from
Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible
wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the
Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
And just as the LORD our God had commanded us, we set out from
Horeb and went toward the hill country of the
Amorites, through all the vast and
terrifying wilderness you have seen. When we reached Kadesh-barnea,
And in the
wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man
doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.
and in the wilderness, where the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way by which you traveled until you reached this place.”
But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
But you are to turn back and head for the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea.”
Then we turned, and took our journey into the
wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount
Seir many days.
Then we turned back and headed for the
wilderness by way of the Red Sea, as the LORD had
instructed me, and for many days we
wandered around Mount
Seir.
