Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof, they are come even unto Jazer, they

lame man
leap as an
hart, and the tongue of the

shout for joy. For waters will
gush forth in the
wilderness, and streams in the desert.

I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the
wilderness a
pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

pool of water, and the dry land into flowing springs.
I will plant in the
wilderness the
cedar, the
shittah tree, and the
myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the
fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together:

wilderness,
acacias, myrtles, and olive trees. I will set
cypresses in the desert, elms and
boxwood together,
Let the
wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that

Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand
shortened at all, that it cannot
redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my
rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a
wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for
thirst.
Why was no one there when I arrived? Why did no one answer when I called? Is My hand too short to
redeem you? Or do I lack the strength to deliver you? Behold, My
rebuke dries up the sea; I turn the rivers into a desert; the fish
rot for lack of water and die of
thirst.

Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her

Thy sons have
fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a
wild bull in a net: they are full of the
fury of the LORD, the
rebuke of thy God.

fainted; they lie at the head of every street, like an
antelope in a net. They are full of the wrath of the LORD, the
rebuke of your God.

wilderness, that they should not

wilderness,

wilderness, Jerusalem a

wilderness.

Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine
espousals, when thou wentest after me in the
wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

bride, how you followed Me in the
wilderness, in a land not sown.

wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of
drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
They did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD who brought us up from the land of Egypt, who led us through the
wilderness, through a land of deserts and pits, a land of
drought and darkness, a land where no one travels and no one lives?’
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the
degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
I had planted you like a choice vine from the very best seed. How could you turn
yourself before Me into a
rotten,
wild vine?
A
wild ass used to the
wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
a
wild donkey at home in the
wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the heat of her desire. Who can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will find her.
O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
You people of this generation, consider the word of the LORD: “Have I been a
wilderness to Israel or a land of dense darkness? Why do My people say, ‘We are free to
roam; we will come to You no more’?
Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been
lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the
wilderness; and thou hast
polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
“Lift up your eyes to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been
violated? You sat beside the
highways waiting for your lovers, like a
nomad in the desert. You have
defiled the land with your
prostitution and wickedness.
At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the
wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to
fan, nor to
cleanse,
At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A
searing wind from the barren heights in the desert blows toward the daughter of My people, but not to
winnow or to
sift;
I
beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a
wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert. All its cities were
torn down before the LORD, before His fierce anger.
Oh that I had in the
wilderness a
lodging place of
wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of
treacherous men.
If only I had a traveler’s
lodge in the
wilderness, I would
abandon my people and depart from them, for they are all adulterers, a crowd of faithless people.
For the mountains will I take up a
weeping and
wailing, and for the habitations of the
wilderness a
lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.
I will take up a
weeping and
wailing for the mountains, a
dirge over the
wilderness pasture, for they have been
scorched so no one passes through, and the lowing of cattle is not heard. Both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled; they have gone away.
Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
Who is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the LORD spoken, that he may explain it? Why is the land destroyed and
scorched like a desert, so no one can pass through it?
Egypt, and Judah, and
Edom, and the children of
Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the
wilderness: for all these nations are
uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are
uncircumcised in the heart.
Egypt, Judah,
Edom,
Ammon, Moab, and all the inhabitants of the desert who
clip the hair of their temples. For all these nations are
uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is
uncircumcised in heart.”
Many pastors have destroyed my
vineyard, they have
trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a
desolate wilderness.
The spoilers are come upon all high places through the
wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall
devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the earth to the other. No flesh has peace.
Therefore will I
scatter them as the
stubble that passeth away by the wind of the
wilderness.
And the
wild asses did stand in the high places, they
snuffed up the wind like
dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
Wild donkeys stand on barren heights; they
pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail for lack of pasture.”
For he shall be like the
heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the
parched places in the
wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
He will be like a
shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the
parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art
Gilead unto me, and the head of
Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a
wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are like
Gilead to Me, like the summit of
Lebanon; but I will surely turn you into a desert, like cities that are uninhabited.
For the land is full of adulterers; for because of
swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the
wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.
For the land is full of adulterers— because of the
curse, the land mourns and the pastures of the
wilderness have dried up— their course is evil and their power is misused.
Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.

Flee, save your lives, and be like the
heath in the
wilderness.
‘
Flee! Run for your lives! Become like a
juniper in the desert.’
Your mother shall be
sore confounded; she that bare you shall be
ashamed: behold, the
hindermost of the nations shall be a
wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
your mother will be greatly
ashamed; she who bore you will be disgraced. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, a
wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.
So the desert creatures and
hyenas will live there and ostriches will dwell there. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.
Her cities are a
desolation, a dry land, and a
wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither
doth any son of man pass thereby.
Her cities have become a
desolation, a dry and
arid land, a land where no one lives, where no son of man passes through.
Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give
suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the
wilderness.
Even jackals offer their breasts to
nurse their young, but the daughter of my people has become cruel, like an
ostrich in the
wilderness.
Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.
Those who
chased us were swifter than the eagles in the sky; they pursued us over the mountains and
ambushed us in the
wilderness.
We
gat our bread with the
peril of our lives because of the sword of the
wilderness.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness.
Then said I,
Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul hath not been
polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is
torn in pieces; neither came there
abominable flesh into my mouth.
“
Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I have never
defiled myself. From my youth until now I have not eaten anything found dead or
mauled by
wild beasts. No unclean meat has ever entered my mouth.”
So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall
bereave thee; and
pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it.
I will send famine and
wild beasts against you, and they will leave you childless. Plague and
bloodshed will
sweep through you, and I will bring a sword against you. I, the LORD, have spoken.”
So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land
desolate,
yea, more
desolate than the
wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will stretch out My hand against them, and wherever they live I will make the land a
desolate waste, from the
wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
If I cause
noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they
spoil it, so that it be
desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
Or if I send
wild beasts through the land to leave it childless and
desolate, with no man passing through it for fear of the beasts,
For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four
sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the
noisome beast, and the
pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem My four
dire judgments—sword, famine,
wild beasts, and plague—in order to cut off from it both man and beast?
And now she is planted in the
wilderness, in a dry and
thirsty ground.
Now it is planted in the
wilderness, in a dry and
thirsty land.
Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
So I brought them out of the land of Egypt and led them into the wilderness.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the
wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they
despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly
polluted: then I said, I would pour out my
fury upon them in the
wilderness, to
consume them.
Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the
wilderness. They did not follow My statutes and they rejected My ordinances—though the man who does these things will live by them—and they utterly
profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and put an end to them in the
wilderness.
