After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he
tarried with them, and
baptized.
Now
after two days he departed thence, and went into
Galilee.
After two days, Jesus left for
Galilee.
This is again the second
miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into
Galilee.
This was now the second sign that Jesus performed
after coming from
Judea into
Galilee.
After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Some time later there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
For an angel went down at a certain season into the
pool, and troubled the water:
whosoever then first
after the troubling of the water
stepped in was made whole of
whatsoever disease he had.
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
Afterward, Jesus found the man at the temple and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Stop
sinning, or something worse may happen to you.”
After these things Jesus went over the sea of
Galilee, which is the sea of
Tiberias.
After this, Jesus crossed to the other side of the Sea of
Galilee (that is, the Sea of
Tiberias).
(
Howbeit there came other boats from
Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread,
after that the Lord had given
thanks:)
However, some boats from
Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread
after the Lord had given
thanks.
After these things Jesus walked in
Galilee: for he would not walk in
Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
After this, Jesus traveled throughout
Galilee. He did not want to travel in
Judea, because the Jews there were trying to kill Him.
But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
But after His brothers had gone up to the feast, He also went—not publicly, but in secret.
Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
and then He said to the disciples, “Let us go back to
Judea.”
These things said he: and
after that he saith unto them, Our friend
Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may
awake him out of sleep.
After He had said this, He told them, “Our friend
Lazarus has fallen
asleep, but I am going there to
wake him up.”
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
After Martha had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside to tell her, “The Teacher is here and is asking for you.”
And when he thus had spoken, he
cried with a loud voice,
Lazarus, come forth.
After Jesus had said this, He called out in a loud voice, “
Lazarus, come out!”
These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was
glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
At first His disciples did not understand these things, but
after Jesus was
glorified they remembered what had been done to Him, and they realized that these very things had also been written about Him.
The
Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone
after him.
Then the
Pharisees said to one another, “You can see that this is doing you no good. Look how the whole world has gone
after Him!”
While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of light.” After Jesus had spoken these things, He went away and was hidden from them.
After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the
towel that was around Him.
So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
When Jesus had washed their feet and put on His outer garments, He
reclined with them again and asked, “Do you know what I have done for you?
When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and
testified, and said,
Verily,
verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall
betray me.
After Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit and
testified, “Truly, truly, I tell you, one of you will
betray Me.”
Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a
sop, when I have
dipped it. And when he had
dipped the
sop, he gave it to
Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
And
after the
sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
And when
Judas had taken the
morsel,
Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to
Judas, “What you are about to do, do quickly.”
Simon Peter said unto him, Lord,
whither goest thou? Jesus answered him,
Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me
afterwards.
“Lord, where are You going?” Simon Peter asked. Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later.”
A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
In a little while you will see Me no more, and then after a little while you will see Me.”
Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
Then some of His disciples asked one another, “Why is He telling us, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?”
Now Jesus knew that they were
desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye
enquire among
yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
Aware that they wanted to question Him, Jesus said to them, “Are you asking one another why I said, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’?
When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the
brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
After Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples across the Kidron Valley, where they entered a garden.
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I
thirst.
After this, knowing that everything had now been accomplished, and to
fulfill the Scripture, Jesus said, “I am
thirsty.”
And
after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews,
besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and
Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
Afterward, Joseph of
Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus (but secretly for fear of the Jews), asked
Pilate to let him remove the body of Jesus.
Pilate gave him permission, so he came and removed His body.
Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the
sepulchre, and
seeth the linen clothes lie,
Simon Peter arrived just after him. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there.
And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples
glad, when they saw the Lord.
After He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples
rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”
After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of
Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
Later, by the Sea of
Tiberias, Jesus again revealed Himself to the disciples. He made Himself known in this way:
This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after He was raised from the dead.
This spake he,
signifying by what death he should
glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would
glorify God. And
after He had said this, He told him, “Follow Me.”
Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.
To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
After His suffering, He presented Himself to them with many
convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a span of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
But ye shall receive power,
after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
And when he had spoken these things, while they
beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud
hid Him from their sight.
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
One
afternoon Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow
after, as many as have spoken, have likewise
foretold of these days.
Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.
So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might
punish them, because of the people: for all men
glorified God for that which was done.
After further threats they let them go. They could not find a way to
punish them, because all the people were
glorifying God for what had happened.
And when they had prayed, the place was
shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
After they had prayed, their meeting place was
shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and
after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not
lied unto men, but unto God.
Did it not belong to you before it was sold? And
after it was sold, was it not at your
disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not
lied to men, but to God!”
And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
About three hours later his wife also came in, unaware of what had happened.
After this man rose up
Judas of
Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people
after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were
dispersed.
After him,
Judas the
Galilean appeared in the days of the census and drew away people
after him. He too perished, and all his followers were scattered.
Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.
So Abraham left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in
Haran.
After his father died, God brought him out of that place and into this land where you are now living.
And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.
He gave him no inheritance here, not even a foot of ground. But God promised to give possession of the land to Abraham and his descendants, even though he did not yet have a child.
And the nation to whom they shall be in
bondage will I judge, said God: and
after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.
‘But I will
punish the nation that enslaves them,’ God said, ‘and
afterward they will come forth and worship Me in this place.’
And when forty years were
expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a
bush.
After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning
bush in the desert near Mount
Sinai.
He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
He led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and for forty years in the wilderness.
Which also our fathers that came
after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God
drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
And our fathers who received it brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations God drove out before them. It remained until the time of David,
And they, when they had
testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the
Samaritans.
And
after Peter and John had
testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many of the
Samaritan villages.
And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

And the
morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And
Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his
kinsmen and near friends.
The following day he arrived in Caesarea, where
Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.
That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from
Galilee,
after the baptism which John preached;
You
yourselves know what has happened throughout
Judea, beginning in
Galilee with the baptism that John proclaimed:
Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
not by all the people, but by the witnesses God had chosen
beforehand, by us who
ate and
drank with Him
after He rose from the dead.
And when he had
apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four
quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending
after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
He arrested him and put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out to the people
after the
Passover.
And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.
After Herod had searched for him unsuccessfully, he examined the guards and ordered that they be executed. Then he went down from
Judea to Caesarea and spent some time there.
And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
And after they had fasted and prayed, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
Now when Paul and his company loosed from
Paphos, they came to Perga in
Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
After setting sail from

And
after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the
synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of
exhortation for the people, say on.
After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the
synagogue leaders sent word to them: “Brothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, please speak.”
And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
All this took about 450 years. After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.
And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
Then the people asked for a king, and God gave them forty years under Saul son of
Kish, from the tribe of Benjamin.
And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of
Jesse, a man
after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
After removing Saul, He raised up David as their king and
testified about him: ‘I have found David son of
Jesse a man
after My own heart; he will carry out My will in its
entirety.’
And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one
after me, whose
shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
As John was completing his course, he said, ‘Who do you suppose I am? I am not that One. But He is coming
after me whose
sandals I am not worthy to
untie.’
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell
asleep. His body was buried with his fathers and saw decay.
Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and
Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
After the
synagogue was dismissed, many of the Jews and
devout converts to
Judaism followed Paul and
Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.
Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with
Barnabas to Derbe.
But
after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. And the next day he left with
Barnabas for Derbe.
And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be
circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
Then some men came down from
Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are
circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
When therefore Paul and
Barnabas had no small
dissension and
disputation with them, they determined that Paul and
Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
And
after engaging these men in sharp
debate, Paul and
Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.
And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
After much discussion, Peter got up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you that the Gentiles would hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.
And
after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren,
hearken unto me:
When they had finished speaking, James declared, “Brothers,
listen to me!
After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
‘After this I will return and rebuild the fallen tent of David. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it,
That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
so that the
remnant of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name, says the Lord who does these things
And they wrote letters by them
after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send
greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and
Cilicia:
and sent them with this letter: The apostles and the elders, your brothers, To the brothers among the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and
Cilicia: Greetings.
And
after they had
tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.
After spending some time there, they were sent off by the brothers in peace to return to those who had sent them.
And some days
after Paul said unto
Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
Some time later Paul said to
Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the brothers in every town where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing.”
Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of
Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to
preach the word in Asia,
After the Holy Spirit had prevented them from speaking the word in the province of Asia, they traveled through the region of Phrygia and
Galatia.
And when they came to the border of
Mysia, they tried to enter
Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not permit them.
And
after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into
Macedonia,
assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to
preach the gospel unto them.
As soon as Paul had seen the vision, we got ready to leave for
Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to
preach the gospel to them.
And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was
wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate along the river, where it was customary to find a place of prayer. After sitting down, we spoke to the women who had gathered there.
And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the
jailer to keep them safely:
And
after striking them with many blows, they threw them into prison and ordered the
jailer to guard them securely.
And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of
Lydia and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
After Paul and
Silas came out of the prison, they went to
Lydia’s house to see the brothers and
encourage them. Then they left the city.
That they should seek the Lord, if
haply they might feel
after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.
After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.
And Paul
after this
tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him
Priscilla and
Aquila; having
shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a
vow.
Paul remained in Corinth for quite some time before saying goodbye to the brothers. He had his head
shaved in Cenchrea to keep a
vow he had made, and then he sailed for Syria, accompanied by
Priscilla and
Aquila.
And
after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of
Galatia and Phrygia in order,
strengthening all the disciples.
After Paul had spent some time in Antioch, he traveled from place to place throughout the region of
Galatia and Phrygia,
strengthening all the disciples.
Then said Paul, John
verily baptized with the baptism of
repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come
after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Paul explained: “John’s baptism was a baptism of
repentance. He told the people to believe in the One coming
after him, that is, in Jesus.”
After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through
Macedonia and
Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying,
After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
After these things had happened, Paul resolved in the Spirit to go to Jerusalem
after he had passed through
Macedonia and
Achaia. “
After I have been there,” he said, “I must see Rome as well.”
And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.
And
after the
uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into
Macedonia.
When the
uproar had ended, Paul sent for the disciples. And
after encouraging them, he said goodbye to them and left for
Macedonia.
And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much
exhortation, he came into Greece,
After traveling through that area and speaking many words of encouragement, he arrived in Greece,
And we sailed away from
Philippi after the days of
unleavened bread, and came unto them to
Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
And
after the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, we sailed from
Philippi, and five days later we rejoined them in
Troas, where we stayed seven days.
When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
Then Paul went back
upstairs, broke bread, and
ate. And
after speaking until
daybreak, he departed.
And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against
Chios; and the next day we arrived at
Samos, and
tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to
Miletus.
Sailing on from there, we arrived the next day opposite
Chios. The day
after that we arrived at
Samos, and on the following day we came to
Miletus.
And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
When they came to him, he said, “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I arrived in the province of Asia.
