Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
Make the work harder on the men so they will be occupied and pay no attention to these lies.”
And said, If thou
wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and
wilt do that which is right in his sight, and
wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
saying, “If you will
listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay
attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
And in all things that I have said unto you be
circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
Pay close
attention to everything I have said to you. You must not
invoke the names of other gods; they must not be heard on your lips.
Beware of him, and obey his voice,
provoke him not; for he will not
pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.
Pay
attention to him and
listen to his voice; do not
defy him, for he will not
forgive rebellion, since My Name is in him.
And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:
with these orders: “Pay
attention. You are to lie in
ambush behind the city, not too far from it. All of you must be ready.
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to
hearken than the fat of rams.
But Samuel declared: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obedience to His voice? Behold, obedience is better than sacrifice, and
attentiveness is better than the fat of rams.
Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of
Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine
handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou
didst send.
My lord should pay no
attention to this
scoundrel Nabal, for he lives up to his name: His name means
Fool, and folly accompanies him. I, your servant, did not see my lord’s young men whom you sent.
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we
flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
But the people
pleaded, “You must not go out! For if we have to
flee, they will pay no
attention to us. Even if half of us die, they will not care; but you are worth ten thousand of us. It is better for now if you support us from the city.”
And it came to pass, when
midday was past, and they
prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
Midday passed, and they kept on
raving until the time of the evening sacrifice. But there was no
response; no one answered, no one paid
attention.
Now, my God, let, I
beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be
attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
Now, my God, may Your eyes be open and Your ears
attentive to the prayer offered in this place.
Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
Now My eyes will be open and My ears
attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
Let thine ear now be
attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and
confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have
sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have
sinned.
let Your eyes be open and Your ears
attentive to hear the prayer that I, Your servant, now pray before You day and night for Your servants, the Israelites. I
confess the sins that we Israelites have committed against You. Both I and my father’s house have
sinned.
O Lord, I
beseech thee, let now thine ear be
attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and
prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s
cupbearer.
O Lord, may Your ear be
attentive to my prayer and to the prayers of Your servants who delight to
revere Your name. Give Your servant success this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” (At that time I was the
cupbearer to the king.)
And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until
midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were
attentive unto the book of the law.
So
Ezra read it
aloud from
daybreak until
noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate, in front of the men and women and those who could understand. And all the people
listened attentively to the Book of the Law.
Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that
convinced Job, or that answered his words:
I paid you full
attention. But no one proved Job wrong; not one of you
rebutted his arguments.
Mark well, O Job,
hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
Pay
attention, Job, and
listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.
Hear
attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.
Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be
attentive to the voice of my supplications.
O Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be
attentive to my
plea for mercy.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay
attention and gain understanding.
My son, attend to my words;
incline thine ear unto my sayings.
My son, pay
attention to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
My son, pay
attention to my wisdom;
incline your ear to my insight,
Be thou
diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
Be sure to know the state of your flocks, and pay close attention to your herds;
Also take no
heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant
curse thee:
Do not pay
attention to every word that is spoken, or you may hear your servant
cursing you.
Associate
yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries:
gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces;
gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
Give ye ear, and hear my voice;
hearken, and hear my speech.
Listen and hear my voice. Pay
attention and hear what I say.
Come near, ye nations, to hear; and
hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.
Come near, O nations, to
listen; pay
attention, O peoples. Let the earth hear, and all that fills it, the world and all that springs from it.
Who among you will give ear to this? who will
hearken and hear for the time to come?
Who among you will pay
attention to this? Who will
listen and obey
hereafter?
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
“Do not call to mind the former things; pay no attention to the things of old.
O that thou hadst
hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
If only you had paid attention to My commandments, your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like waves of the sea.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and
hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the
womb; from the
bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.
Listen to Me, O islands; pay
attention, O distant peoples: The LORD called Me from the
womb; from the body of My mother He named Me.
Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.
Pay
attention to Me, My people, and
listen to Me, My nation; for a law will go out from Me, and My justice will become a light to the nations; I will bring it about quickly.
Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not
hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
Hear, O earth! I am bringing
disaster on this people, the fruit of their own schemes, because they have paid no
attention to My word and have rejected My instruction.
And it shall be unto them as a false
divination in their sight, to them that have
sworn oaths: but he will call to
remembrance the iniquity, that they may be taken.
It will seem like a false
omen to the eyes of those who have
sworn allegiance to him, but it will draw
attention to their guilt and take them
captive.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that ye are come to
remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you have drawn
attention to your guilt,
exposing your transgressions, so that your sins are revealed in all your deeds—because you have come to
remembrance—you shall be taken in hand.
And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall
shew thee; for to the intent that I might
shew them unto thee art thou brought
hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.
“Son of man,” he said to me, “look with your eyes, hear with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Report to the house of Israel everything you see.”
And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
The LORD said to me: “Son of man, pay
attention; look carefully with your eyes and
listen closely with your ears to everything I tell you concerning all the statutes and laws of the house of the LORD. Take careful note of the entrance to the temple, along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and
sackcloth, and ashes:
So I turned my
attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and petition, with fasting,
sackcloth, and ashes.
As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our
iniquities, and understand thy truth.
Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this
disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our
iniquities and giving
attention to Your truth.
Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have
cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor
hearken unto me, saith the LORD.
Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Turn now from your evil ways and deeds.’ But they did not
listen or pay
attention to Me, declares the LORD.
But they refused to
hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.
But they refused to pay
attention and turned a
stubborn shoulder; they stopped up their ears from hearing.
But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his
merchandise:
But they paid no attention and went away, one to his field, another to his business.
And they sent out unto him their disciples with the
Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
They sent their disciples to Him along with the
Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are
honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You seek favor from no one, because You pay no
attention to external appearance.
And he said unto them, Take
heed what ye hear: with what measure ye
mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
He went on to say, “Pay attention to what you hear. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and even more will be added to you.
Take
heed therefore how ye hear: for
whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and
whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
Pay
attention, therefore, to how you
listen.
Whoever has will be given more, but
whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very
attentive to hear him.
Yet they could not find a way to do so, because all the people hung on His words.
And he gave
heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
So the man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
And the people with one
accord gave
heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
The crowds gave their undivided attention to Philip’s message and to the signs they saw him perform.
And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had
bewitched them with
sorceries.
They paid close
attention to him because he had
astounded them for a long time with his
sorcery.
Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words,
subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be
circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
It has come to our
attention that some went out from us without our
authorization and unsettled you, troubling your minds by what they said.
Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
Take
heed unto
thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save
thyself, and them that hear thee.
Pay close
attention to your life and to your teaching.
Persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both
yourself and those who hear you.
Not giving
heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of men who have rejected the truth.
Therefore we ought to give the more earnest
heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
We must pay closer attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my
footstool:
If you
lavish attention on the man in fine clothes and say, “Here is a seat of honor,” but say to the poor man, “You must stand” or “Sit at my feet,”
We have also a more sure word of prophecy;
whereunto ye do well that ye take
heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day
dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay
attention to it, as to a lamp
shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth,
prating against us with
malicious words: and not content
therewith, neither
doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
So if I come, I will call
attention to his
malicious slander against us. And unsatisfied with that, he refuses to
welcome the brothers and forbids those who want to do so, even putting them out of the church.
The heart of the
prudent will understand a parable; and an
attentive ear is the desire of a wise man.
