And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and
begat Jared:
When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared.
And Mahalaleel lived after he
begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and
begat sons and daughters:
And after he had become the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters.
And
Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he
begat Enoch:
When
Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of
Enoch.
And
Jared lived after he
begat Enoch eight hundred years, and
begat sons and daughters:
And after he had become the father of
Enoch,
Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters.
And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
So Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.
And let it come to pass, that the
damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Now may it happen that the
girl to whom I say, ‘Please let down your
jar that I may drink,’ and who responds, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels as well’—let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. By this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”
And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold,
Rebekah came out, who was born to
Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of
Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
Before the servant had finished praying,
Rebekah came out with her
jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of
Bethuel son of Milcah, the wife of Abraham’s brother
Nahor.
And the
damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
Now the
girl was very beautiful, a virgin who had not had relations with any man. She went down to the spring, filled her
jar, and came up again.
And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
So the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me have a little water from your jar.”
And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
“Drink, my lord,” she replied, and she quickly lowered her jar to her hands and gave him a drink.
And she hasted, and
emptied her pitcher into the
trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
And she quickly
emptied her
jar into the
trough and ran back to the well to draw water, until she had drawn water for all his camels.
Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
Here I am, standing beside this spring. Now if a
maiden comes out to draw water and I say to her, ‘Please let me drink a little water from your
jar,’
And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold,
Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
And before I had finished praying in my heart, there was
Rebekah coming out with her
jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew water. So I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’
And she made
haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I
drank, and she made the camels drink also.
She quickly lowered her
jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels as well.’ So I
drank, and she also watered the camels.
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an
omer full of
manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
So Moses told Aaron, “Take a
jar and fill it with an
omer of
manna. Then place it before the LORD to be preserved for the generations to come.”
And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the
candlestick of the light, and his lamps, and his
tongs, and his snuffdishes, and all the oil vessels thereof,
wherewith they minister unto it:
They are to take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand used for light, together with its lamps,
wick trimmers, and
trays, as well as the
jars of oil with which to supply it.
And the priest shall take holy water in an
earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:
Then he is to take some holy water in a clay jar and put some of the dust from the tabernacle floor into the water.
And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt
heifer of
purification for sin, and running water shall be put
thereto in a vessel:
For the
purification of the unclean person, take some of the ashes of the burnt sin offering, put them in a
jar, and pour fresh water over them.
Wherefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of
Hebron, and unto Piram king of
Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of
Lachish, and unto Debir king of
Eglon, saying,
Therefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of
Hebron, Piram king of
Jarmuth, Japhia king of
Lachish, and Debir king of
Eglon, saying,
Therefore the five kings of the
Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of
Hebron, the king of
Jarmuth, the king of
Lachish, the king of
Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and
encamped before
Gibeon, and made war against it.
So the five kings of the
Amorites—the kings of Jerusalem,
Hebron,
Jarmuth,
Lachish, and
Eglon—joined forces and advanced with all their armies. They camped before
Gibeon and made war against it.
And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of
Hebron, the king of
Jarmuth, the king of
Lachish, and the king of
Eglon.
So they brought the five kings out of the cave—the kings of Jerusalem,
Hebron,
Jarmuth,
Lachish, and
Eglon.
The king of
Jarmuth, one; the king of
Lachish, one;
the king of
Jarmuth, one; the king of
Lachish, one;
Jarmuth, and
Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,
And Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border before Japho.
Me-
jarkon, and Rakkon, including the territory across from
Joppa.
Jarmuth with her suburbs, En-gannim with her suburbs; four cities.
Jarmuth, and En-gannim—four cities, together with their pasturelands.
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a
trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies and gave each man a ram’s horn in one hand and a large
jar in the other, containing a
torch.
So
Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they
blew the
trumpets, and
brake the pitchers that were in their hands.
Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the outskirts of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after the changing of the guard. They
blew their horns and broke the
jars that were in their hands.
And the three companies
blew the
trumpets, and
brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the
trumpets in their right hands to blow
withal: and they
cried, The sword of the LORD, and of
Gideon.
The three companies
blew their horns and
shattered their
jars. Holding the torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, they
shouted, “A sword for the LORD and for
Gideon!”
Let thine eyes be on the field that they do
reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art
athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
Let your eyes be on the field they are harvesting, and follow along after these girls. Indeed, I have ordered the young men not to touch you. And when you are
thirsty, go and drink from the
jars the young men have filled.”
And take with thee ten
loaves, and cracknels, and a
cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.
Take with you ten
loaves of bread, some cakes, and a
jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the boy.”
And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a
cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a
cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
But she replied, “As surely as the LORD your God lives, I have no bread—only a handful of flour in a
jar and a little oil in a
jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks to take home and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so that we may eat it and die.”
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the
cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The
jar of flour will not be exhausted and the
jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain upon the face of the earth.’”
And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the
cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by
Elijah.
The
jar of flour was not exhausted and the
jug of oil did not run dry, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through
Elijah.
And he looked, and, behold, there was a
cake baken on the coals, and a
cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
And he looked around, and there by his head was a
cake of bread
baked over hot coals, and a
jar of water. So he
ate and
drank and lay down again.
And
Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine
handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
“How can I help you?” asked
Elisha. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She answered, “Your servant has nothing in the house but a
jar of oil.”
Then he said, Go,
borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels;
borrow not a few.
“Go,” said
Elisha, “
borrow jars, even empty ones, from all your neighbors. Do not gather just a few.
And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
Then go inside, shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all these jars, setting the full ones aside.”
So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
So she left him, and after she had shut the door behind her and her sons, they kept bringing jars to her, and she kept pouring.
And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another.” But he replied, “There are no more jars.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
Kenan, Mahalaleel, Jered,
Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared,
Now Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha.
Sheshan had no sons, but only daughters; but he did have an Egyptian servant named Jarha.
And Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant to wife; and she bare him Attai.
Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, and she bore to him Attai.
The sons of

The descendants of

These are the children of Abihail the son of Huri, the son of
Jaroah, the son of
Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of
Buz;
These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, the son of
Jaroah, the son of
Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of
Buz.
And Jaresiah, and Eliah, and Zichri, the sons of Jeroham.
Jaareshiah,
Elijah, and Zichri were the sons of Jeroham.
Ahaz was the father of
Jarah;
Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza.
Then sent I for
Eliezer, for
Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for
Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for
Nathan, and for
Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.
Then I summoned the leaders:
Eliezer,
Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan,
Jarib, Elnathan,
Nathan,
Zechariah, and Meshullam, as well as the teachers Joiarib and Elnathan.
And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and
Eliezer, and
Jarib, and Gedaliah.
Among the descendants of the priests who had married foreign women were found these descendants of Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers:
And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their
trespass.
Maaseiah,
Eliezer,
Jarib, and Gedaliah. They
pledged to send their wives away, and for their guilt they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.
And at En-
rimmon, and at Zareah, and at
Jarmuth,
Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Or who can
tilt the water
jars of the heavens
He maketh the deep to
boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of
ointment.
He makes the depths
seethe like a cauldron; he makes the sea like a
jar of
ointment.
And they shall
hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.
So they will
hang on him all the glory of his father’s house: the descendants and the offshoots—all the lesser vessels, from
bowls to every kind of
jar.
And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not
spare: so that there shall not be found in the
bursting of it a
sherd to take fire from the
hearth, or to take water
withal out of the pit.
It will break in pieces like a
potter’s
jar,
shattered so that no fragment can be found. Not a
shard will be found in the dust large enough to
scoop the coals from a
hearth or to
skim the water from a
cistern.”
And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were
ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.
The nobles send their servants for water; they go to the cisterns, but find no water; their
jars return empty. They are
ashamed and
humiliated; they cover their heads.
Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a
potter’s
earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;
This is what the LORD says: “Go and
buy a clay
jar from a
potter. Take some of the elders of the people and leaders of the priests,
Then shalt thou break the
bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,
And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a
potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall
bury them in
Tophet, till there be no place to
bury.
and you are to
proclaim to them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I will
shatter this nation and this city, like one
shatters a
potter’s
jar that can never again be repaired. They will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room to
bury them.
Is this man Coniah a
despised broken
idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
Is this man Coniah a
despised and
shattered pot, a
jar that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants
hurled out and cast into a land they do not know?
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an
earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Take these deeds—both the sealed copy and the open copy of the deed of purchase—and put them in a clay jar to preserve them for a long time.
As for me, behold, I will dwell at
Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.
As for me, I will stay in
Mizpah to represent you before the Chaldeans who come to us. As for you, gather wine grapes, summer fruit, and oil, place them in your
storage jars, and live in the cities you have taken.”
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to
wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.
Therefore behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will send to him wanderers, who will pour him out. They will empty his vessels and
shatter his
jars.
There shall be
lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD.
On all the rooftops of Moab and in the public squares,
everyone is
mourning; for I have
shattered Moab like an unwanted
jar,” declares the LORD.
The precious sons of
Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as
earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the
potter!
How the precious sons of
Zion, once worth their weight in pure gold, are now esteemed as
jars of clay, the work of a
potter’s hands!
When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king
Jareb: yet could he not
heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, then Ephraim turned to Assyria and sent to the great king. But he cannot cure you or
heal your wound.
It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king
Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be
ashamed of his own counsel.
Yes, it will be carried to Assyria as tribute to the great king. Ephraim will be seized with shame; Israel will be
ashamed of its wooden idols.
There came unto him a woman having an
alabaster box of very precious
ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
a woman came to Him with an
alabaster jar of expensive
perfume, which she poured on His head as He
reclined at the table.
While Jesus was in
Bethany reclining at the table in the home of Simon the
Leper, a woman came with an
alabaster jar of expensive
perfume, made of pure
nard. She broke open the
jar and poured it on Jesus’ head.
Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of
Enoch, which was the son of
Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan,
the son of
Methuselah, the son of
Enoch, the son of
Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan,
When a sinful woman from that town learned that Jesus was
dining there, she brought an
alabaster jar of
perfume.
No man, when he hath lighted a
candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a
candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
No one lights a lamp and covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he sets it on a stand, so those who enter can see the light.
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the
purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins
apiece.
Now six stone water
jars had been set there for the Jewish rites of
purification. Each could hold from twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the
brim.
Jesus told the servants, “Fill the
jars with water.” So they filled them to the
brim.
The woman then left her
waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
Then the woman left her water jar, went back into the town, and said to the people,
Now there was set a vessel full of
vinegar: and they filled a
spunge with
vinegar, and put it upon
hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
Now we have this
treasure in
jars of clay to show that this
surpassingly great power is from God and not from us.
Which had the golden
censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had
manna, and Aaron’s rod that
budded, and the tables of the covenant;
containing the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. Inside the ark were the gold
jar of
manna, Aaron’s staff that had
budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.
And of the sons of Zamoth; Eliadas, Elisimus, Othonias, Jarimoth, and Sabatus, and Sardeus.
Forasmuch as
oftentimes there have been wars in the country, wherein for the maintenance of their sanctuary, and the law, Simon the son of Mattathias, of the
posterity of
Jarib, together with his brethren, put themselves in
jeopardy, and resisting the enemies of their nation did their nation great honour:
