But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from
afar off, and thy seed from the
land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the
land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the
land shall
howl.
This is what the LORD says: “See how the waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing
torrent. They will overflow the
land and its fullness, the cities and their inhabitants. The people will cry out, and all who dwell in the
land will
wail And upon Kerioth, and upon
Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the
land of Moab, far or near.
upon Kerioth,
Bozrah, and all the towns of Moab, those far and near.
Joy and
gladness are removed from the
orchard and from the fields of Moab. I have stopped the flow of wine from the presses; no one treads them with shouts of joy; their shouts are not for joy.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the
habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Edom from her
land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.
This is the word that the LORD spoke through Jeremiah the prophet concerning Babylon and the land of the Chaldeans:
For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her
land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
For a nation from the north will come against her; it will make her
land a
desolation. No one will live in it; both man and beast will
flee.”
Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.
Flee from the midst of Babylon; depart from the
land of the Chaldeans; be like the he-goats that lead the flock.
For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in
array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall return in vain.
For behold, I
stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the
land of the north. They will line up against her; from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed.
Your mother shall be
sore confounded; she that bare you shall be
ashamed: behold, the
hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry
land, and a desert.
your mother will be greatly
ashamed; she who bore you will be disgraced. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry
land, and a desert.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the
sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the
oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall
flee every one to his own
land.
Cut off the
sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the
sickle at harvest time. In the face of the
oppressor’s sword, each will turn to his own people, each will
flee to his own
land.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will
punish the king of Babylon and his
land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “I will
punish the king of Babylon and his
land as I punished the king of Assyria.
Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
Go up against the
land of Merathaim, and against the residents of Pekod. Kill them and
devote them to destruction. Do all that I have commanded you,” declares the LORD.
A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
“The noise of battle is in the land— the noise of great destruction.
The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his
indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the
land of the Chaldeans.
The LORD has opened His
armory and brought out His weapons of wrath, for this is the work of the Lord GOD of Hosts in the
land of the Chaldeans.
The voice of them that
flee and escape out of the
land of Babylon, to declare in
Zion the
vengeance of the LORD our God, the
vengeance of his temple.
Listen to the fugitives and refugees from the
land of Babylon, declaring in
Zion the
vengeance of the LORD our God, the
vengeance for His temple.
Their
Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly
plead their cause, that he may give rest to the
land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
Their
Redeemer is strong; the LORD of Hosts is His name. He will
fervently plead their case so that He may bring rest to the earth, but
turmoil to those who live in Babylon.
A
drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the
land of
graven images, and they are
mad upon their idols.
A
drought is upon her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is a
land of
graven images, and the people go
mad over idols.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the
habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Babylon from her
land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the
land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their
habitation desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the
land of the Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
And will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall
fan her, and shall empty her
land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.
I will send strangers to Babylon to
winnow her and empty her
land; for they will come against her from every side in her day of
disaster.
Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.
And they will fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and pierced through in her streets.
For Israel hath not been
forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their
land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.
For Israel and Judah have not been abandoned by their God, the LORD of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.”
We would have
healed Babylon, but she is not
healed:
forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the
skies.
“We tried to
heal Babylon, but she could not be
healed.
Abandon her! Let each of us go to his own
land, for her judgment extends to the sky and reaches to the clouds.”
Set ye up a standard in the
land, blow the
trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of
Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz;
appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.
“Raise a
banner in the
land! Blow the ram’s horn among the nations! Prepare the nations against her.
Summon the kingdoms against her—
Ararat, Minni, and
Ashkenaz.
Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like
swarming locusts.
Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.
Prepare the nations for battle against her— the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the lands they rule.
And the
land shall
tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the
land of Babylon a
desolation without an inhabitant.
The earth quakes and writhes because the LORD’s intentions against Babylon stand: to make the
land of Babylon a
desolation, without inhabitant.
Her cities are a
desolation, a dry
land, and a wilderness, a
land wherein no man dwelleth, neither
doth any son of man pass thereby.
Her cities have become a
desolation, a dry and
arid land, a
land where no one lives, where no son of man passes through.
And lest your heart
faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the
land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the
land, ruler against ruler.
Do not let your heart grow
faint, and do not be afraid when the
rumor is heard in the
land; for a
rumor will come one year— and then another the next year— of violence in the
land and of ruler against ruler.
Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the
graven images of Babylon: and her whole
land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.
Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will
punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire
land will suffer shame, and all her slain will lie fallen within her.
Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her
graven images: and through all her
land the wounded shall
groan.
“Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will
punish her idols, and throughout her
land the wounded will
groan.
A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:
“The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was
sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the
land.
By the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine in the city was so severe that the people of the land had no food.
Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the
land of
Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.
The Chaldeans seized the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the
land of
Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on
Zedekiah.
But Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard left certain of the poor of the
land for vinedressers and for
husbandmen.
But Nebuzaradan captain of the guard left behind some of the poorest of the land to tend the vineyards and fields.
He took also out of the city an
eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of them that were near the king’s person, which were found in the city; and the principal
scribe of the host, who
mustered the people of the
land; and
threescore men of the people of the
land, that were found in the midst of the city.
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as seven trusted royal advisers. He also took the
scribe of the captain of the army, who had
enlisted the people of the
land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the
land of
Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away
captive out of his own
land.
There at Riblah in the
land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its own
land.
To
crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
To
crush underfoot all the prisoners of the
land,
Rejoice and be
glad, O daughter of
Edom, that dwellest in the
land of
Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be
drunken, and shalt make
thyself naked.
The word of the LORD came expressly unto
Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the
land of the Chaldeans by the river
Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.
the word of the LORD came directly to
Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the
land of the Chaldeans by the River Kebar. And there the LORD’s hand was upon him.
Yet will I leave a
remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.
Yet I will leave a
remnant, for some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered among the nations and throughout the
lands.
So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the
land desolate,
yea, more
desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will stretch out My hand against them, and wherever they live I will make the
land a
desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.
“O son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: ‘The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.
The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near, and not the sounding again of the mountains.
Doom has come to you, O inhabitants of the
land. The time has come; the day is near; there is
panic on the mountains instead of shouts of joy.
Make a chain: for the
land is full of
bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.
Forge the chain, for the
land is full of crimes of
bloodshed, and the city is full of violence.
The king shall
mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with
desolation, and the hands of the people of the
land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
The king will
mourn, the prince will be clothed with
despair, and the hands of the people of the
land will
tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and I will judge them by their own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his
imagery? for they say, The LORD
seeth us not; the LORD hath
forsaken the earth.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the
shrine of his own
idol? For they are saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has
forsaken the
land.’”
Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the
land with violence, and have returned to
provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the
land with violence and continually
provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even putting the branch to their nose!
Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the
land is full of blood, and the city full of
perverseness: for they say, The LORD hath
forsaken the earth, and the LORD
seeth not.
He replied, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. The
land is full of
bloodshed, and the city is full of
perversity. For they say, ‘The LORD has
forsaken the
land; the LORD does not see.’
Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.
“Son of man, your brothers—your relatives, your fellow exiles, and the whole house of Israel—are those of whom the people of Jerusalem have said, ‘They are far away from the LORD; this land has been given to us as a possession.’
Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and
assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the
land of Israel.
Therefore declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will gather you from the peoples and
assemble you from the countries to which you have been scattered, and I will give back to you the
land of Israel.’
In their sight shalt thou bear it upon thy shoulders, and carry it forth in the
twilight: thou shalt cover thy face, that thou see not the ground: for I have set thee for a sign unto the house of Israel.
And as they watch, lift your bags to your shoulder and take them out at
dusk; cover your face so that you cannot see the
land. For I have made you a sign to the house of Israel.”
And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the
twilight, and shall go forth: they shall
dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes.
And at
dusk the prince among them will lift his bags to his shoulder and go out. They will
dig through the wall to bring him out. He will cover his face so he cannot see the
land.
My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my
snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the
land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.
But I will spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My
snare. I will bring him to Babylon, the
land of the Chaldeans; yet he will not see it, and there he will die.
And say unto the people of the
land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the
land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulness, and drink their water with
astonishment, that her
land may be
desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein.
Then tell the people of the
land that this is what the Lord GOD says about those living in Jerusalem and in the
land of Israel: ‘They will eat their bread with
anxiety and drink their water in
dread, for their
land will be
stripped of everything in it because of the violence of all who dwell in it.
And the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the
land shall be
desolate; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
The inhabited cities will be laid waste, and the
land will become
desolate. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
Son of man, what is that
proverb that ye have in the
land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth?
“Son of man, what is this
proverb that you have in the
land of Israel: ‘The days go by, and every vision fails’?
And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of My people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
Son of man, when the
land sinneth against me by
trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
If I cause
noisome beasts to pass through the
land, and they
spoil it, so that it be
desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
Or if I send wild beasts through the
land to leave it childless and
desolate, with no man passing through it for fear of the beasts,
Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the
land shall be
desolate.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the
land would be
desolate.
Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:
Or if I bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through it,’ so that I cut off from it both man and beast,
Or if I send a
pestilence into that
land, and pour out my
fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:
Or if I send a plague into that
land and pour out My wrath upon it through
bloodshed, cutting off from it both man and beast,
And I will make the
land desolate, because they have committed a
trespass, saith the Lord GOD.
Thus I will make the
land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy
nativity is of the
land of
Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.
and tell her that this is what the Lord GOD says to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth were in the
land of the
Canaanites. Your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.
So you extended your
promiscuity to
Chaldea, the
land of merchants—but even with this you were not satisfied!
He
cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a
land of
traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.
He
plucked off its
topmost shoot, carried it to the
land of merchants, and planted it in a city of traders.
He took also of the seed of the
land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a
willow tree.
He took some of the seed of the
land and planted it in fertile soil; he placed it by abundant waters and set it out like a
willow.
And hath taken of the king’s seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:
He took a member of the royal family and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. Then he carried away the leading men of the land,
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he
despised, and whose covenant he
brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
‘As surely as I live,’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘he will die in Babylon, in the
land of the king who enthroned him, whose oath he
despised and whose covenant he broke.
What mean ye, that ye use this
proverb concerning the
land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?
“What do you people mean by
quoting this
proverb about the
land of Israel: ‘The fathers have eaten
sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge’?
The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt.
When the nations heard of him, he was
trapped in their pit. With hooks they led him away to the
land of Egypt.
And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and
thirsty ground.
Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and
thirsty land.
And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God;
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: On the day I chose Israel, I
swore an oath to the descendants of the house of Jacob and made Myself known to them in the
land of Egypt. With an
uplifted hand I said to them, ‘I am the LORD your God.’
In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the
land of Egypt into a
land that I had
espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all
lands:
On that day I
swore to bring them out of the
land of Egypt into a
land that I had searched out for them, a
land flowing with milk and honey, the glory of all
lands.
But they rebelled against me, and would not
hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they
forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my
fury upon them to
accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the
land of Egypt.
But they rebelled against Me and refused to
listen. None of them cast away the abominations before their eyes, and they did not
forsake the idols of Egypt. So I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
vent My anger against them in the
land of Egypt.
But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be
polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the
land of Egypt.
But I acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were living, in whose sight I had revealed Myself to Israel by bringing them out of the
land of Egypt.
Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
So I brought them out of the land of Egypt and led them into the wilderness.
Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;
Moreover, with an
uplifted hand I
swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the
land that I had given them—a
land flowing with milk and honey, the glory of all
lands—
I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would
scatter them among the heathen, and
disperse them through the countries;
However, with an
uplifted hand I
swore to them in the wilderness that I would
scatter them among the nations and
disperse them throughout the
lands.
For when I had brought them into the
land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the
provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
When I brought them into the
land that I
swore to give them and they saw any high hill or
leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices, presented offerings that
provoked Me, sent up their
fragrant incense, and poured out their drink offerings.
And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
When you say, ‘Let us be like the nations, like the peoples of the lands, serving wood and stone,’ what you have in mind will never come to pass.
And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with
fury poured out.
With a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and outpoured wrath I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you from the lands to which you have been scattered.
Like as I
pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the
land of Egypt, so will I
plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.
Just as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the Lord GOD.
And I will
purge out from among you the rebels, and them that
transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they
sojourn, and they shall not enter into the
land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
And I will
purge you of those who
rebel and
transgress against Me. I will bring them out of the
land in which they dwell, but they will not enter the
land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
For on My holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Lord GOD, there the whole house of Israel, all of them, will serve Me in the land. There I will accept them and will require your offerings and choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices.
I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be
sanctified in you before the heathen.
When I bring you from the peoples and gather you from the
lands to which you have been scattered, I will accept you as a pleasing
aroma. And I will show My
holiness through you in the sight of the nations.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the
land of Israel, the
land that I
swore to give your fathers.
Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and
prophesy against the
land of Israel,
And say to the
land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his
sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.
and tell her that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you, and I will draw My sword from its
sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.
Also, thou son of man,
appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both
twain shall come forth out of one
land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.
“Now you, son of man, mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to take, both starting from the same
land. And make a
signpost where the road branches off to each city.
Shall I cause it to return into his
sheath? I will judge thee in the place where thou
wast created, in the
land of thy
nativity.
Return the sword to its
sheath! In the place where you were created, in the
land of your origin, I will judge you.
Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered: for I the LORD have spoken it.
You will be fuel for the fire. Your blood will
stain your own
land. You will not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.’”
Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast
defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a
mocking to all countries.
you are guilty of the blood you have shed, and you are
defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close and have come to the end of your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a
mockery to all the
lands.
I will
disperse you among the nations and
scatter you throughout the
lands; I will
purge your uncleanness.
Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the
land that is not
cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of
indignation.
“Son of man, say to her, ‘In the day of
indignation, you are a
land that has not been
cleansed, upon which no rain has fallen.’
The people of the
land have practiced
extortion and committed
robbery. They have
oppressed the poor and
needy and have exploited the foreign resident without justice.
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the
hedge, and stand in the
gap before me for the
land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
I searched for a man among them to repair the wall and stand in the
gap before Me on behalf of the
land, so that I should not destroy it. But I found no one.
Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in
dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of
Chaldea, the
land of their
nativity:
wearing belts on their waists and flowing turbans on their heads; all of them looked like officers of the Babylonians in
Chaldea, the
land of their birth.
