The wilderness and the solitary place shall be
glad for them; and the desert shall
rejoice, and
blossom as the rose.
The wilderness and the
land will be
glad; the desert will
rejoice and
blossom like a rose.
The
parched ground will become a
pool, the
thirsty land springs of water. In the
haunt where jackals once lay, there will be grass and reeds and
papyrus.
And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
So now, was it apart from the LORD that I have come up against this land to destroy it? The LORD Himself said to me, ‘Go up against this land and destroy it.’”
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
until I come and take you away to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
Beware lest
Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his
land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Do not let
Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’ Has the god of any nation ever delivered his
land from the hand of the king of Assyria?
Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
Who among all the gods of these lands has delivered his land from my hand? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?”
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a
rumor and return to his own
land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,
Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all these countries and their lands.
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god
Nisroch, his sons
Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the
land of
Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king
Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And
Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon.
Then the prophet Isaiah went to King
Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?” “They came to me from a distant
land,”
Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”
Every valley shall be
exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the
crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground will become smooth, and the
rugged land a plain.
I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a
pool of water, and the dry
land springs of water.
I will open rivers on the barren heights, and fountains in the middle of the valleys. I will turn the desert into a
pool of water, and the dry
land into flowing springs.
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
I will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation. I will turn the rivers into dry
land and
drain the marshes.
For I will pour water upon him that is
thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
For I will pour water on the
thirsty land, and currents on the dry ground. I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.
I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
I have not spoken in secret, from a place in a land of darkness. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in a wasteland.’ I, the LORD, speak the truth; I say what is right.
Calling a
ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country:
yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.
I
summon a bird of prey from the east, a man for My purpose from a far-off
land. Truly I have spoken, and truly I will bring it to pass. I have
planned it, and I will surely do it.
Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to
inherit the
desolate heritages;
This is what the LORD says: “In the time of favor I will answer You, and in the day of salvation I will help You; I will keep You and
appoint You to be a covenant for the people, to restore the
land, to
apportion its
desolate inheritances,
Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.
Behold, they will come from far away, from the north and from the west, and from the land of Aswan.”
For thy waste and thy
desolate places, and the
land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that
swallowed thee up shall be far away.
For your ruined and
desolate places and your
ravaged land will now indeed be too small for your people, and those who
devoured you will be far away.
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the
land of the living: for the
transgression of my people was he
stricken.
By oppression and judgment He was taken away, and who can recount His descendants? For He was cut off from the
land of the living; He was
stricken for the
transgression of My people.
When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the
land, and shall
inherit my holy mountain;
When you cry out, let your companies of idols deliver you! Yet the wind will carry off all of them, a breath will take them away. But he who seeks refuge in Me will
inherit the
land and possess My holy mountain.”
And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in
drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
The LORD will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-
scorched land and
strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Then shalt thou delight
thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to
ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the
heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
then you will delight
yourself in the LORD, and I will make you
ride on the heights of the
land and feed you with the
heritage of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the
dromedaries of
Midian and
Ephah; all they from
Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall
shew forth the praises of the LORD.
Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders. But you will name your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.
Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall
inherit the
land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be
glorified.
Then all your people will be righteous; they will possess the
land forever; they are the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, so that I may be
glorified.
For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall
rejoice in their portion: therefore in their
land they shall possess the double:
everlasting joy shall be unto them.
Instead of shame, My people will have a double portion, and instead of
humiliation, they will
rejoice in their share; and so they will
inherit a double portion in their
land, and
everlasting joy will be theirs.
Thou shalt no more be termed
Forsaken; neither shall thy
land any more be termed
Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzi-
bah, and thy
land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy
land shall be married.
No longer will you be called
Forsaken, nor your
land named
Desolate; but you will be called Hephzibah, and your
land Beulah; for the LORD will take delight in you, and your
land will be His
bride.
That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall
bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall
swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are
hid from mine eyes.
Whoever invokes a blessing in the
land will do so by the God of truth, and
whoever takes an oath in the
land will
swear by the God of truth. For the former troubles will be forgotten and hidden from My sight.
The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.
Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Disaster from the north will be poured out on all who live in the
land.
For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron
pillar, and
brasen walls against the whole
land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the
land.
Now behold, this day I have made you like a fortified city, an iron
pillar, and bronze walls against the whole
land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the
land.
Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine
espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a
land that was not sown.
“Go and
proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a
bride, how you followed Me in the wilderness, in a
land not sown.
Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the
land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a
land of deserts and of pits, through a
land of
drought, and of the shadow of death, through a
land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
They did not ask, ‘Where is the LORD who brought us up from the
land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a
land of deserts and pits, a
land of
drought and darkness, a
land where no one travels and no one lives?’
I brought you into a fertile
land to eat its fruit and
bounty, but you came and
defiled My
land, and made My inheritance
detestable.
The young lions
roared upon him, and
yelled, and they made his
land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.
The young lions have
roared at him; they have
growled with a loud voice. They have laid waste his
land; his cities lie in ruins, without inhabitant.
O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
You people of this generation, consider the word of the LORD: “Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a
land of dense darkness? Why do My people say, ‘We are free to
roam; we will come to You no more’?
They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that
land be greatly
polluted? but thou hast played the
harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
“If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him to marry another, can he ever return to her? Would not such a
land be completely
defiled? But you have played the
harlot with many lovers— and you would return to Me?” declares the LORD.
Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been
lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast
polluted the
land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
“Lift up your eyes to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been
violated? You sat beside the
highways waiting for your lovers, like a
nomad in the desert. You have
defiled the
land with your
prostitution and wickedness.
And it came to pass through the lightness of her
whoredom, that she
defiled the
land, and committed
adultery with stones and with stocks.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
“In those days, when you multiply and increase in the
land,” declares the LORD, “they will no longer
discuss the ark of the covenant of the LORD. It will never come to mind, and no one will remember it or miss it, nor will another one be made.
In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave to your fathers as an inheritance.
But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant
land, a goodly
heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
Then I said, ‘How I long to make you My sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of all the nations!’ I thought you would call Me ‘Father’ and never turn away from following Me.
Declare ye in Judah, and
publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the
trumpet in the
land: cry, gather together, and say,
Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.
The lion is come up from his
thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy
land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.
A lion has gone up from his
thicket, and a destroyer of nations has set out. He has left his
lair to lay waste your
land. Your cities will be reduced to ruins and lie uninhabited.
Make ye mention to the nations; behold,
publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.
Warn the nations now!
Proclaim to Jerusalem: “A
besieging army comes from a distant
land; they raise their voices against the cities of Judah.
Destruction upon destruction is
cried; for the whole
land is
spoiled: suddenly are my tents
spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.
Disaster after
disaster is proclaimed, for the whole
land is laid waste. My tents are destroyed in an instant, my curtains in a moment.
I
beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
I looked, and the fruitful
land was a desert. All its cities were
torn down before the LORD, before His fierce anger.
For thus hath the LORD said, The whole
land shall be
desolate; yet will I not make a full end.
For this is what the LORD says: “The whole
land will be
desolate, but I will not finish its destruction.
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have
forsaken me, and served strange gods in your
land, so shall ye serve strangers in a
land that is not yours.
And when the people ask, ‘For what
offense has the LORD our God done all these things to us?’ You are to tell them, ‘Just as you have
forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your
land, so will you serve foreigners in a
land that is not your own.’”
A wonderful and
horrible thing is committed in the
land;
Be thou
instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee
desolate, a
land not inhabited.
Be
forewarned, O Jerusalem, or I will turn away from you; I will make you a
desolation, a
land without inhabitant.”
And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.
To what purpose cometh there to me incense from
Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
What use to Me is
frankincense from
Sheba or sweet cane from a distant
land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please Me.”
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, an army is coming from the
land of the north; a great nation is
stirred up from the ends of the earth.
Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.
then I will let you live in this place, in the
land that I gave to your fathers
forever and ever.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my
fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be
quenched.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, My anger and My
fury will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, on the trees of the field and the produce of the
land, and it will burn and not be
extinguished.
For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:
For when I brought your fathers out of the land of Egypt, I did not merely command them about burnt offerings and sacrifices,
Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:
From the day your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets again and again.
Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride: for the
land shall be
desolate.
I will remove from the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sounds of joy and
gladness and the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, for the
land will become a wasteland.”
The
snorting of his horses was heard from
Dan: the whole
land trembled at the sound of the
neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have
devoured the
land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.
The
snorting of enemy horses is heard from
Dan. At the sound of the
neighing of mighty steeds, the whole
land quakes. They come to
devour the
land and everything in it, the city and all who dwell in it.
Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in
Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they
provoked me to anger with their
graven images, and with strange
vanities?
Listen to the cry of the daughter of my people from a
land far away: “Is the LORD no longer in
Zion? Is her King no longer there?” “Why have they
provoked Me to anger with their carved images, with their worthless foreign idols?”
And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not
valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
“They bend their tongues like bows; lies prevail over truth in the land. For they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not take Me into account,” declares the LORD.
Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
Who is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the LORD spoken, that he may explain it? Why is the
land destroyed and
scorched like a desert, so no one can pass through it?
For a voice of
wailing is heard out of
Zion, How are we
spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have
forsaken the
land, because our dwellings have cast us out.
For the sound of
wailing is heard from
Zion: ‘How
devastated we are! How great is our shame! For we have abandoned the
land because our dwellings have been
torn down.’”
Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.
Gather up your belongings from this land, you who live under siege.
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will
sling out the inhabitants of the
land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
For this is what the LORD says: “Behold, at this time I will
sling out the inhabitants of the
land and bring distress upon them so that they may be captured.”
Behold, the noise of the
bruit is come, and a great
commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah
desolate, and a den of
dragons.
Listen! The sound of a report is coming— a great
commotion from the
land to the north. The cities of Judah will be made a
desolation, a
haunt for jackals.
Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
which I commanded your forefathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, ‘Obey Me, and do everything I command you, and you will be My people, and I will be your God.’
That I may perform the oath which I have
sworn unto your fathers, to give them a
land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
This was in order to establish the oath I
swore to your forefathers, to give them a
land flowing with milk and honey, as it is to this day.” “
Amen, LORD,” I answered.
For I earnestly
protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the
land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and
protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
For from the time I brought your fathers out of the
land of Egypt until
today, I strongly
warned them again and again, saying, ‘Obey My voice.’
But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
For I was like a gentle lamb led to slaughter; I did not know that they had
plotted against me: “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the
land of the living, that his name may be remembered no more.”
How long shall the
land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
How long will the
land mourn and the grass of every field be
withered? Because of the evil of its residents, the animals and birds have been swept away, for the people have said, “He cannot see what our end will be.”
If thou hast run with the
footmen, and they have
wearied thee, then how canst thou
contend with horses? and if in the
land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they
wearied thee, then how
wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you
compete with horses? If you
stumble in a peaceful
land, how will you do in the thickets of the Jordan?
They have made it
desolate, and being
desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole
land is made
desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.
They have made it a
desolation;
desolate before Me, it mourns. All the
land is laid waste, but no man takes it to heart.
The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall
devour from the one end of the
land even to the other end of the
land: no flesh shall have peace.
Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the earth to the other. No flesh has peace.
Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to
inherit; Behold, I will
pluck them out of their
land, and
pluck out the house of Judah from among them.
This is what the LORD says: “As for all My evil neighbors who attack the inheritance that I
bequeathed to My people Israel, I am about to
uproot them from their
land, and I will
uproot the house of Judah from among them.
And it shall come to pass, after that I have
plucked them out I will return, and have
compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his
heritage, and every man to his
land.
But after I have uprooted them, I will once again have
compassion on them and return each one to his inheritance and to his
land.
Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this
land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with
drunkenness.
then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to fill with
drunkenness all who live in this
land—the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the people of Jerusalem.
Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof
languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
“Judah mourns and her gates
languish. Her people
wail for the
land, and a cry goes up from Jerusalem.
Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were
ashamed, they covered their heads.
The ground is
cracked because no rain has fallen on the
land. The farmers are
ashamed; they cover their heads.
O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the
land, and as a
wayfaring man that turneth aside to
tarry for a night?
O Hope of Israel, its
Savior in times of distress, why are You like a stranger in the
land, like a traveler who stays but a night?
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that
prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this
land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
Therefore this is what the LORD says about the prophets who
prophesy in My name: I did not send them, yet they say, ‘No sword or famine will touch this
land.’ By sword and famine these very prophets will meet their end!
If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine!
yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a
land that they know not.
If I go out to the country, I see those slain by the sword; if I enter the city, I see those
ravaged by famine! For both prophet and priest travel to a
land they do not know.’”
And I will
fan them with a
fan in the gates of the
land; I will
bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways.
I will
scatter them with a
winnowing fork at the gates of the
land. I will
bereave and destroy My people who have not turned from their ways.
Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of
strife and a man of
contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on
usury, nor men have lent to me on
usury; yet every one of them
doth curse me.
Woe to me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of
strife and conflict in all the
land. I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet
everyone curses me.
And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a
land which thou knowest not: for a fire is
kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.
Then I will
enslave you to your enemies in a
land you do not know, for My anger will
kindle a fire that will burn against you.”
For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that
begat them in this
land;
For this is what the LORD says concerning the sons and daughters born in this place, and the mothers who bore them, and the fathers who fathered them in this land:
Both the great and the small shall die in this
land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men
lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves
bald for them:
“Both great and small will die in this
land. They will not be buried or
mourned, nor will
anyone cut himself or
shave his head for them.
Therefore will I cast you out of this
land into a
land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not
shew you favour.
So I will cast you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
Yet behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the
land of the north, and from all the
lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their
land that I gave unto their fathers.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their forefathers.
And first I will
recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have
defiled my
land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their
detestable and
abominable things.
And I will first repay them double their iniquity and their sin, because they have
defiled My
land with the
carcasses of their
detestable idols, and they have filled My inheritance with their abominations.”
And thou, even
thyself, shalt discontinue from thine
heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the
land which thou knowest not: for ye have
kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.
For he shall be like the
heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the
parched places in the wilderness, in a salt
land and not inhabited.
He will be like a
shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the
parched places of the desert, in a salt
land where no one lives.
And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.
And people will come from the cities of Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the
land of Benjamin, and from the foothills, the hill country, and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and
frankincense, and
thank offerings to the house of the LORD.
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: but
weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
Do not
weep for the dead king; do not
mourn his loss.
Weep bitterly for the one who is exiled, for he will never return to see his native
land.
