And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the
Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he
seeth thee, he will be
glad in his heart.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, “Is not Aaron the
Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well, and he is now on his way to meet you. When he sees you, he will be
glad in his heart.
And the sons of Merari; Mahali and Mushi: these are the families of Levi according to their generations.
The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites according to their records.
And
Eleazar Aaron’s son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him
Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the
Levites according to their families.
Aaron’s son
Eleazar married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him
Phinehas. These were the heads of the
Levite families by their clans.
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
So Moses stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “
Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” And all the
Levites gathered around him.
And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people fell dead.
This is the sum of the tabernacle, even of the tabernacle of testimony, as it was counted, according to the commandment of Moses, for the service of the
Levites, by the hand of
Ithamar, son to Aaron the priest.
This is the
inventory for the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the Testimony, as recorded at Moses’ command by the
Levites under the direction of
Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
Notwithstanding the cities of the
Levites, and the houses of the cities of their possession, may the
Levites redeem at any time.
As for the cities of the
Levites, the
Levites always have the right to
redeem their houses in the cities they possess.
And if a man purchase of the Levites, then the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, shall go out in the year of jubile: for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.
So whatever belongs to the
Levites may be redeemed—a house sold in a city they possess—and must be released in the
Jubilee, because the houses in the cities of the
Levites are their possession among the Israelites.
But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.
The Levites, however, were not numbered along with them by the tribe of their fathers.
But thou shalt
appoint the
Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall
encamp round about the tabernacle.
Instead, you are to
appoint the
Levites over the tabernacle of the Testimony, all its furnishings, and everything in it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its articles, care for it, and camp around it.
And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the
Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the
Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever it is to be pitched, the Levites are to set it up. Any outsider who goes near it must be put to death.
But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.
But the Levites are to camp around the tabernacle of the Testimony and watch over it, so that no wrath will fall on the congregation of Israel. So the Levites are responsible for the tabernacle of the Testimony.”
Then the tabernacle of the congregation shall set forward with the camp of the
Levites in the midst of the camp: as they
encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place by their standards.
In the middle of the camps, the Tent of Meeting is to travel with the camp of the
Levites. They are to set out in the order they
encamped, each in his own place under his standard.
But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses.
But the Levites were not counted among the other Israelites, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel.
Assign the
Levites to Aaron and his sons; they have been given exclusively to him from among the Israelites.
And I, behold, I have taken the
Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the
firstborn that openeth the
matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the
Levites shall be mine;
“Behold, I have taken the
Levites from among the children of Israel in place of every
firstborn Israelite from the
womb. The
Levites belong to Me,
Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them.
“Number the Levites by their families and clans. You are to count every male a month old or more.”
And the sons of Merari by their families; Mahli, and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to the house of their fathers.
And the sons of Merari by their clans were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites, according to their families.
And
Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the
Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.
The chief of the leaders of the
Levites was
Eleazar son of Aaron the priest; he oversaw those responsible for the duties of the sanctuary.
All that were numbered of the Levites, which Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of the LORD, throughout their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty and two thousand.
The total number of Levites that Moses and Aaron counted by their clans at the LORD’s command, including all the males a month old or more, was 22,000.
And thou shalt take the
Levites for me (I am the LORD) instead of all the
firstborn among the children of Israel; and the cattle of the
Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel.
You are to take the
Levites for Me—I am the LORD—in place of all the
firstborn of Israel, and the
livestock of the
Levites in place of all the
firstborn of the
livestock of the Israelites.”
Take the
Levites instead of all the
firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the
Levites instead of their cattle; and the
Levites shall be mine: I am the LORD.
“Take the
Levites in place of all the
firstborn of Israel, and the
livestock of the
Levites in place of their
livestock. The
Levites belong to Me; I am the LORD.
And for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and
threescore and thirteen of the
firstborn of the children of Israel, which are more than the
Levites;
And Moses took the
redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the
Levites:
So Moses collected the
redemption money from those in excess of the number redeemed by the
Levites.
Take the sum of the sons of
Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the house of their fathers,
“Take a census of the Kohathites among the Levites by their clans and families,
Cut ye not off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites:
“Do not allow the Kohathite
tribal clans to be cut off from among the
Levites.
All those that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the chief of Israel numbered, after their families, and after the house of their fathers,
So Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of Israel numbered by their clans and families all the Levites
Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.
“Accept these gifts from them, that they may be used in the work of the Tent of Meeting. And give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.”
And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites.
So Moses took the carts and oxen and gave them to the Levites.
Take the
Levites from among the children of Israel, and
cleanse them.
“Take the
Levites from among the Israelites and make them
ceremonially clean.
And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt gather the whole assembly of the children of Israel together:
Bring the
Levites before the Tent of Meeting and
assemble the whole congregation of Israel.
And thou shalt bring the Levites before the LORD: and the children of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites:
You are to present the Levites before the LORD and have the Israelites lay their hands upon them.
And Aaron shall offer the
Levites before the LORD for an offering of the children of Israel, that they may
execute the service of the LORD.
Aaron is to present the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the sons of Israel, so that they may perform the service of the LORD.
And the
Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, unto the LORD, to make an
atonement for the
Levites.
And the
Levites are to lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and offer to the LORD one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, to make
atonement for the
Levites.
And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the LORD.
You are to have the Levites stand before Aaron and his sons and then present them before the LORD as a wave offering.
Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.
In this way you shall separate the Levites from the rest of the Israelites, and the Levites will belong to Me.
And after that shall the
Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt
cleanse them, and offer them for an offering.
After you have
cleansed them and presented them as a wave offering, they may come to serve at the Tent of Meeting.
For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every
womb, even instead of the
firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.
For the
Levites have been wholly given to Me from among the sons of Israel. I have taken them for Myself in place of all who come first from the
womb, the
firstborn of all the sons of Israel.
And I have taken the
Levites for all the
firstborn of the children of Israel.
But I have taken the
Levites in place of all the
firstborn among the sons of Israel.
And I have given the
Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an
atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come
nigh unto the sanctuary.
And I have given the
Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites, to perform the service for the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting and to make
atonement on their behalf, so that no plague will come against the Israelites when they approach the sanctuary.”
And Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, did to the Levites according unto all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.
So Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel did with the Levites everything that the LORD had commanded Moses they should do.
And the
Levites were
purified, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them as an offering before the LORD; and Aaron made an
atonement for them to
cleanse them.
The
Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes, and Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the LORD. Aaron also made
atonement for them to
cleanse them.
And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.
After that, the Levites came to perform their service at the Tent of Meeting in the presence of Aaron and his sons. Thus they did with the Levites just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation:
“This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years of age or older shall enter to perform the service in the work at the Tent of Meeting.
But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.
After that, they may assist their brothers in
fulfilling their duties at the Tent of Meeting, but they themselves are not to do the work. This is how you are to
assign responsibilities to the
Levites.”
And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?
He has brought you near, you and all your fellow Levites, but you are seeking the priesthood as well.
And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Behold, I Myself have selected your fellow Levites from the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD to perform the service for the Tent of Meeting.
And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Behold, I have given to the
Levites all the
tithes in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work they do, the service of the Tent of Meeting.
But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.
The Levites are to perform the work of the Tent of Meeting, and they must bear their iniquity. This is a permanent statute for the generations to come. The Levites will not receive an inheritance among the Israelites.
But the
tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an
heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the
Levites to
inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.
For I have given to the
Levites as their inheritance the
tithe that the Israelites present to the LORD as a contribution. That is why I told them that they would not receive an inheritance among the Israelites.”
Thus speak unto the
Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the
tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an
heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the
tithe.
“Speak to the
Levites and tell them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the
tithe that I have given you as your inheritance, you must present part of it as an offering to the LORD—a
tithe of the
tithe.
Therefore thou shalt say unto them, When ye have
heaved the best thereof from it, then it shall be counted unto the
Levites as the increase of the threshingfloor, and as the increase of the winepress.
Therefore say to the
Levites, ‘When you have presented the best part, it will be reckoned to you as the produce of the
threshing floor or winepress.
And these are they that were numbered of the
Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of
Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.
Now these were the
Levites numbered by their clans: The Gershonite clan from Gershon, the Kohathite clan from
Kohath, and the Merarite clan from Merari.
These are the families of the
Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And
Kohath begat Amram.
These were the families of the
Levites: The Libnite clan, the Hebronite clan, the Mahlite clan, the Mushite clan, and the Korahite clan. Now
Kohath was the father of Amram,
And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel.
The
registration of the
Levites totaled 23,000, every male a month old or more; they were not numbered among the other Israelites, because no inheritance was given to them among the Israelites.
And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the
beeves, of the
asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the
Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.
From the Israelites’ half, take one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle,
donkeys, sheep, or other animals, and give them to the
Levites who keep charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.”
Even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
From the Israelites’ half, Moses took one out of every fifty persons and animals and gave them to the Levites who kept charge of the tabernacle of the LORD, as the LORD had commanded him.
Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.
“Command the Israelites to give, from the inheritance they will possess, cities for the Levites to live in and pasturelands around the cities.
And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
The pasturelands around the cities you are to give the Levites will extend a thousand cubits from the wall on every side.
And among the cities which ye shall give unto the
Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall
appoint for the
manslayer, that he may
flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.
Six of the cities you give the
Levites are to be appointed as cities of refuge, to which a
manslayer may
flee. In addition to these, give the
Levites forty-two other cities.
So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.
The total number of cities you give the Levites will be forty-eight, with their corresponding pasturelands.
And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.
The cities that you
apportion from the territory of the Israelites should be given to the
Levites in proportion to the inheritance of each tribe: more from a larger tribe and less from a smaller one.”
And ye shall
rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the
Levite that is within your gates;
forasmuch as he hath no part nor inheritance with you.
And you shall
rejoice before the LORD your God—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you.
But thou must eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy
maidservant, and the
Levite that is within thy gates: and thou shalt
rejoice before the LORD thy God in all that thou puttest thine hands unto.
Instead, you must eat them in the presence of the LORD your God at the place the LORD your God will choose—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite within your gates.
Rejoice before the LORD your God in all you do,
Take
heed to
thyself that thou
forsake not the
Levite as long as thou livest upon the earth.
and be careful not to neglect the Levites as long as you live in your land.
And the
Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not
forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.
And do not neglect the Levite within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you.
And the
Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
Then the
Levite (because he has no portion or inheritance among you), the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your gates may come and eat and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all the work of your hands.
And thou shalt
rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy
maidservant, and the
Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to place his name there.
and you shall
rejoice before the LORD your God in the place He will choose as a dwelling for His Name—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite within your gates, as well as the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widows among you.
And thou shalt
rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy
manservant, and thy
maidservant, and the
Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.
And you shall
rejoice in your feast—you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, and the
Levite, as well as the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widows among you.
And thou shalt come unto the priests the
Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and
enquire; and they shall
shew thee the sentence of judgment:
You are to go to the
Levitical priests and to the judge who presides at that time. Inquire of them, and they will give you a
verdict in the case.
And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
When he is seated on his royal throne, he must write for himself a copy of this instruction on a
scroll in the presence of the
Levitical priests.
The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.
The
Levitical priests—indeed the whole tribe of Levi—shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel. They are to eat the offerings made by fire to the LORD; that is their inheritance.
And if a
Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he
sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the LORD shall choose;
Now if a Levite moves from any town of residence throughout Israel and comes in all earnestness to the place the LORD will choose,
Then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before the LORD.
then he shall serve in the name of the LORD his God like all his fellow Levites who stand there before the LORD.
Take
heed in the plague of
leprosy, that thou observe
diligently, and do according to all that the priests the
Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.
And thou shalt
rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the
Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
So you shall
rejoice—you, the
Levite, and the foreigner dwelling among you—in all the good things the LORD your God has given to you and your household.
When thou hast made an end of
tithing all the
tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of
tithing, and hast given it unto the
Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;
When you have finished laying aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the
tithe, you are to give it to the
Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat and be filled within your gates.
Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the
hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the
Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not
transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them:
Then you shall declare in the presence of the LORD your God, “I have removed from my house the sacred portion and have given it to the
Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, according to all the commandments You have given me. I have not
transgressed or forgotten Your commandments.
And Moses and the priests the
Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take
heed, and
hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.
Then Moses and the
Levitical priests spoke to all Israel: “Be silent, O Israel, and
listen! This day you have become the people of the LORD your God.
And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,
That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,
he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD:
And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
and commanded the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God being carried by the
Levitical priests, you are to set out from your positions and follow it.
And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the
Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount
Gerizim, and half of them over against mount
Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should
bless the people of Israel.
All Israel, foreigners and citizens alike, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the LORD facing the
Levitical priests who carried it. Half of the people stood in front of Mount
Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount
Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded earlier, to
bless the people of Israel.
For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.
For Moses had given the inheritance east of the Jordan to the other two and a half tribes. But he granted no inheritance among them to the Levites.
For the children of Joseph were two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the
Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
The descendants of Joseph became two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion of the land was given to the
Levites, except for cities in which to live, along with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.
But the
Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and
Gad, and
Reuben, and half the tribe of
Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.
The
Levites, however, have no portion among you, because their inheritance is the priesthood of the LORD. And
Gad,
Reuben, and half the tribe of
Manasseh have already received the inheritance that Moses the servant of the LORD gave them beyond the Jordan to the east.”
Then came near the heads of the fathers of the
Levites unto
Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of
Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;
Now the family heads of the
Levites approached
Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of
Nun, and the heads of the other tribes of Israel
And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs.
So by the command of the LORD, the Israelites gave the Levites these cities and their pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the
Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of
Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.
The first lot came out for the Kohathite clans. The
Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.
And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
So the Israelites
allotted to the
Levites these cities, together with their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.
to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them:
And the families of the children of
Kohath, the
Levites which remained of the children of
Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim.
The remaining Kohathite clans of the
Levites were
allotted these cities:
And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the
Levites, out of the other half tribe of
Manasseh they gave Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and Beesh-terah with her suburbs; two cities.
This is what the
Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: From the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan, a city of refuge for the
manslayer, and Beeshterah—two cities, together with their pasturelands.
And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the
Levites, out of the tribe of
Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,
This is what the Merarite clan (the rest of the Levites) were given:
So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.
In all, twelve cities were
allotted to the clans of Merari, the remaining
Levite clans.
All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.
For the Levites, then, there were forty-eight cities in all, together with their pasturelands, within the territory of the Israelites.
And there was a young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family of Judah, who was a
Levite, and he
sojourned there.
And there was a young
Levite from
Bethlehem in Judah who had been residing within the clan of Judah.
And
Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto him, I am a
Levite of Bethlehemjudah, and I go to
sojourn where I may find a place.
“Where are you from?”
