Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of
Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the
LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the
herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.
They will come and
shout for joy on the heights of
Zion; they will be
radiant over the
bounty of the
LORD— the grain, new wine, and oil, and the young of the flocks and herds. Their life will be like a well-watered garden, and never again will they
languish.
And I will
satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the
LORD.
I will fill the souls of the priests abundantly, and will fill My people with My goodness,” declares the LORD.
Thus saith the
LORD; A voice was heard in
Ramah,
lamentation, and bitter
weeping;
Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.
This is what the
LORD says: “A voice is heard in
Ramah,
mourning and great
weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”
Thus saith the
LORD;
Refrain thy voice from
weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the
LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.
This is what the
LORD says: “Keep your voice from
weeping and your eyes from tears, for the reward for your work will come, declares the
LORD. Then your children will return from the land of the enemy.
And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
So there is hope for your future, declares the LORD, and your children will return to their own land.
I have surely heard Ephraim
bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast
chastised me, and I was
chastised, as a
bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the
LORD my God.
I have surely heard Ephraim’s
moaning: ‘You disciplined me severely, like an untrained
calf. Restore me, that I may return, for You are the
LORD my God.
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the
LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful child? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares the
LORD.
How long
wilt thou go about, O thou
backsliding daughter? for the
LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.
How long will you
wander, O faithless daughter? For the
LORD has created a new thing in the land— a woman will shelter a man.”
Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The
LORD bless thee, O
habitation of justice, and mountain of
holiness.
This is what the
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore them from captivity, they will once again speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities: ‘May the
LORD bless you, O righteous dwelling place, O holy mountain.’
Behold, the days come, saith the
LORD, that I will
sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.
“The days are coming,” declares the
LORD, “when I will
sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and of beast.
And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to
pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to
afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the
LORD.
Just as I watched over them to
uproot and
tear down, to
demolish, destroy, and bring
disaster, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” declares the
LORD.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they
brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the
LORD:
It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt— a covenant they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
“But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the
LORD. I will put My law in their minds and
inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the
LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the
LORD; for I will
forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
No longer will each man teach his
neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the
LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the
LORD. For I will
forgive their
iniquities and will remember their sins no more.”
Thus saith the
LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof
roar; The
LORD of hosts is his name:
Thus says the
LORD, who gives the sun for light by day, who sets in order the moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves
roar—the
LORD of Hosts is His name:
If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
“Only if this fixed order departed from My presence, declares the LORD, would Israel’s descendants ever cease to be a nation before Me.”
Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
This is what the
LORD says: “Only if the heavens above could be measured and the foundations of the earth below searched out would I
reject all of Israel’s descendants because of all they have done,” declares the
LORD.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner.
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when this city will be rebuilt for Me, from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.
And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the
brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the
LORD; it shall not be
plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
The whole valley of the dead bodies and ashes, and all the fields as far as the Kidron Valley, to the corner of the Horse Gate to the east, will be holy to the
LORD. It will never again be uprooted or
demolished.”
The word that came to Jeremiah from the
LORD in the tenth year of
Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the
eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore
dost thou
prophesy, and say, Thus saith the
LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying: “Why are you
prophesying like this? You claim that the
LORD says, ‘Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.
And he shall lead
Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the
LORD: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not
prosper?
He will take
Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will stay until I attend to him, declares the
LORD. If you fight against the Chaldeans, you will not succeed.’”
And Jeremiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Jeremiah replied, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying:
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the
LORD, and said unto me,
Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the
redemption is thine;
buy it for
thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the
LORD.
Then, as the
LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the
courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please
buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and
redemption.
Buy it for
yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the
LORD.
Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an
earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.
“This is what the
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Take these deeds—both the sealed copy and the open copy of the deed of purchase—and put them in a clay
jar to preserve them for a long time.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land.”
Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the
LORD, saying,
After I had given the deed of purchase to
Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the
LORD:
Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
“Oh, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!
Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the
bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the
LORD of hosts, is his name,
You show loving devotion to thousands but lay the iniquity of the fathers into the laps of their children after them, O great and mighty God whose name is the LORD of Hosts,
And thou hast said unto me, O
Lord GOD,
Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
Yet You, O
Lord GOD, have said to me, ‘
Buy for
yourself the field with silver and call in witnesses, even though the city has been delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans!’”
Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:
Therefore this is what the
LORD says: Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will capture it.
For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only
provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the
LORD.
For the children of Israel and of Judah have done nothing but evil in My sight from their youth; indeed, they have done nothing but
provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the
LORD.
And now therefore thus saith the
LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city,
whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence;
Now therefore, about this city of which you say, ‘It will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword and famine and plague,’ this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.
For this is what the
LORD says: Just as I have brought all this great
disaster on this people, so I will bring on them all the good I have promised them.
Men shall
buy fields for money, and
subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the
LORD.
Fields will be purchased with silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed, and witnessed in the land of Benjamin, in the areas surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah—the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev—because I will restore them from captivity, declares the LORD.”
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
While Jeremiah was still confined in the
courtyard of the guard, the word of the
LORD came to him a second time:
Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name;
“Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it, the LORD is His name:
For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword;
For this is what the
LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses of this city and the palaces of the kings of Judah that have been
torn down for
defense against the siege ramps and the sword:
Thus saith the
LORD; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be
desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are
desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast,
This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland without man or beast, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted—inhabited by neither man nor beast—there will be heard again
The voice of joy, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the
LORD of hosts: for the
LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the
LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the
LORD.
the sounds of joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, and the voices of those bringing
thank offerings into the house of the
LORD, saying: ‘Give
thanks to the
LORD of Hosts, for the
LORD is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.’ For I will restore the land from captivity as in former times, says the
LORD.
Thus saith the
LORD of hosts; Again in this place, which is
desolate without man and without beast, and in all the cities thereof, shall be an
habitation of
shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.
This is what the
LORD of Hosts says: In this
desolate place, without man or beast, and in all its cities, there will once more be pastures for
shepherds to rest their flocks.
In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the
vale, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks pass again under the hands of him that telleth them, saith the
LORD.
In the cities of the hill country, the foothills, and the Negev, in the land of Benjamin and the cities surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
Behold, the days are coming, declares the
LORD, when I will
fulfill the
gracious promise that I have spoken to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name
wherewith she shall be called, The
LORD our righteousness.
In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely, and this is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.
For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;
For this is what the LORD says: David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,
And the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, saying,
And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Thus saith the LORD; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season;
“This is what the LORD says: If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that day and night cease to occupy their appointed time,
Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,
Moreover, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the
LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have
despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
“Have you not noticed what these people are saying: ‘The
LORD has rejected the two families He had chosen’? So they
despise My people and no longer regard them as a nation.
Thus saith the LORD; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;
This is what the LORD says: If I have not established My covenant with the day and the night and the fixed order of heaven and earth,
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the
LORD, when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the
LORD when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, all his army, all the earthly kingdoms under his control, and all the other nations were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities.
Thus saith the
LORD, the God of Israel; Go and speak to
Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the
LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:
The
LORD, the God of Israel, told Jeremiah to go and speak to
Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him that this is what the
LORD says: “Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down.
Yet hear the word of the
LORD, O
Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the
LORD of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword:
Yet hear the word of the
LORD, O
Zedekiah king of Judah. This is what the
LORD says concerning you: You will not die by the sword;
But thou shalt die in peace: and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and they will
lament thee, saying,
Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the
LORD.
you will die in peace. As spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who preceded you, so people will burn spices for you and
lament, ‘
Alas, O master!’ For I Myself have spoken this word, declares the
LORD.”
This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the
LORD, after that the king
Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem, to
proclaim liberty unto them;
After King
Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to
proclaim liberty, the word came to Jeremiah from the
LORD Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Thus saith the
LORD, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of
bondmen, saying,
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I made a covenant with your forefathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, saying:
Therefore thus saith the
LORD; Ye have not
hearkened unto me, in
proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I
proclaim a liberty for you, saith the
LORD, to the sword, to the
pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
Therefore this is what the
LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each man for his brother and for his
neighbor. So now I
proclaim freedom for you, declares the
LORD—freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will make you a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
Behold, I will command, saith the
LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a
desolation without an inhabitant.
Behold, I am going to give the command, declares the
LORD, and I will bring them back to this city. They will fight against it, capture it, and burn it down. And I will make the cities of Judah a
desolation, without inhabitant.”
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the
LORD in the days of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the
LORD in the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah:
Go unto the house of the
Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the
LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.
“Go to the house of the
Rechabites, speak to them, and bring them to one of the chambers of the house of the
LORD to offer them a drink of wine.”
And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:
and I brought them into the house of the
LORD, to a chamber occupied by the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah, a man of God. This room was near the chamber of the officials, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah son of Shallum the
doorkeeper.
Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to
hearken to my words? saith the
LORD.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem: ‘Will you not accept discipline and obey My words?’ declares the LORD.
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.
Therefore this is what the
LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will bring to Judah and to all the residents of Jerusalem all the
disaster I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them but they have not obeyed, and I have called to them but they have not answered.’”
And Jeremiah said unto the house of the
Rechabites, Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:
Then Jeremiah said to the house of the
Rechabites: “This is what the
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Because you have obeyed the command of your
forefather Jonadab and have kept all his commandments and have done all that he charged you to do,
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab son of Rechab will never fail to have a man to stand before Me.’”
And it came to pass in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the
LORD, saying,
In the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the
LORD:
Then Jeremiah called
Baruch the son of Neriah: and
Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the
LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
So Jeremiah called
Baruch son of Neriah, and at the
dictation of Jeremiah,
Baruch wrote on a
scroll all the words that the
LORD had spoken to Jeremiah.
And Jeremiah commanded
Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the
LORD:
Then Jeremiah commanded
Baruch, “I am restricted; I cannot enter the house of the
LORD;
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
so you are to go to the house of the
LORD on a day of fasting, and in the hearing of the people you are to read the words of the
LORD from the
scroll you have written at my
dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.
It may be they will present their
supplication before the
LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the
fury that the
LORD hath pronounced against this people.
Perhaps they will bring their petition before the
LORD, and each one will turn from his wicked way; for great are the anger and
fury that the
LORD has pronounced against this people.”
And
Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the
LORD in the
LORD’S house.
So
Baruch son of Neriah did everything that Jeremiah the prophet had commanded him. In the house of the
LORD he read the words of the
LORD from the
scroll.
And it came to pass in the fifth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the
LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
Now in the ninth month of the fifth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, a fast before the
LORD was proclaimed to all the people of Jerusalem and all who had come there from the cities of Judah.
Then read
Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the
LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the
scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the
LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people.
From the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the
scribe, which was in the upper
courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the
LORD,
Baruch read from the
scroll the words of Jeremiah in the hearing of all the people.
When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,
When Micaiah son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the
LORD from the
scroll,
But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the
LORD hid them.
Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, as well as Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to seize
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the
LORD had hidden them.
Then the word of the
LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which
Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
After the king had burned the
scroll containing the words that
Baruch had written at Jeremiah’s
dictation, the word of the
LORD came to Jeremiah:
And thou shalt say to
Jehoiakim the king of Judah, Thus saith the
LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
You are to
proclaim concerning
Jehoiakim king of Judah that this is what the
LORD says: You have burned the
scroll and said, ‘Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon would surely come and destroy this land and deprive it of man and beast?’
Therefore thus saith the
LORD of
Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the
frost.
Therefore this is what the
LORD says about
Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on David’s throne, and his body will be thrown out and exposed to heat by day and
frost by night.
But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did
hearken unto the words of the
LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
But he and his officers and the people of the land refused to obey the words that the LORD had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet.
And
Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and
Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the
LORD our God for us.
Yet King
Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and
Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet with the message, “Please pray to the
LORD our God for us!”
Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet:
Thus saith the
LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to
enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says that you are to tell the king of Judah, who sent you to Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has marched out to help you, will go back to its own land of Egypt.
Thus saith the
LORD;
Deceive not
yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.
This is what the
LORD says: Do not
deceive yourselves by saying, ‘The Chaldeans will go away for good,’ for they will not!
Then
Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the
LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
Later, King
Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah and received him in his palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there a word from the
LORD?” “There is,” Jeremiah replied. “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my
lord the king: let my
supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, lest I die there.
But now please
listen, O my
lord the king. May my petition come before you. Do not send me back to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, or I will die there.”
Thus saith the
LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
“This is what the
LORD says:
Whoever stays in this city will die by sword and famine and plague, but
whoever surrenders to the Chaldeans will live; he will retain his life like a
spoil of war, and he will live.
Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.
This is what the LORD says: This city will surely be delivered into the hands of the army of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.”
My
lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the
dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
“My
lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have dropped him into the
cistern, where he will
starve to death, for there is no more bread in the city.”
Then
Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the
LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
Then King
Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the prophet and received him at the third entrance to the house of the
LORD. “I am going to ask you something,” said the king to Jeremiah. “Do not hide anything from me.”
So
Zedekiah the king
sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the
LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
But King
Zedekiah swore secretly to Jeremiah, “As surely as the
LORD lives, who has given us this life, I will not kill you, nor will I deliver you into the hands of these men who are seeking your life.”
Then said Jeremiah unto
Zedekiah, Thus saith the
LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou
wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
Then Jeremiah said to
Zedekiah, “This is what the
LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you indeed surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned down, and you and your household will
survive.
But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I
beseech thee, the voice of the
LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
“They will not hand you over,” Jeremiah replied. “Obey the voice of the LORD in what I am telling you, that it may go well with you and you may live.
But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
But if you refuse to surrender, this is the word that the LORD has shown me:
Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
And while Jeremiah had been confined in the
courtyard of the guard, the word of the
LORD had come to him:
Go and speak to Ebed-melech the
Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee.
“Go and tell Ebed-melech the
Cushite that this is what the
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘I am about to
fulfill My words against this city for
harm and not for good, and on that day they will be fulfilled before your eyes.
