And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always
strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not
contend with man
forever, for he is
mortal; his days shall be 120 years.”
And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and
slime had they for
morter.
And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and
bake them thoroughly.” So they used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of
mortar.
And they made their lives bitter with hard
bondage, in
morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
and made their lives bitter with hard labor in brick and mortar, and with all kinds of work in the fields. Every service they imposed was harsh.
And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other
morter, and shall
plaister the house.
So different stones must be obtained to replace the
contaminated ones, as well as additional
mortar to replaster the house.
And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the
morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place.
It must be
torn down with its stones, its timbers, and all its
plaster, and taken outside the city to an unclean place.
And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a
mortar, and
baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
The people walked around and gathered it, ground it on a
handmill or
crushed it in a
mortar, then boiled it in a
cooking pot or shaped it into cakes. It tasted like
pastry baked with fine oil.
But if any man
hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and
smite him
mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
If, however, a man hates his
neighbor and lies in wait, attacks him and kills him, and then flees to one of these cities,
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
And
Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere
mortal prevail against You.”
In those days
Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. So he prayed to the LORD, who spoke to him and gave him a sign.
Some also there were that said, We have
mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might
buy corn, because of the
dearth.
Others were saying, “We are
mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our homes to get grain during the famine.”
Shall
mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
‘Can a
mortal be more righteous than God, or a man more pure than his Maker?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
“
Yes, I know that it is so, but how can a
mortal be righteous before God?
Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man’s days,
Are Your days like those of a
mortal, or Your years like those of a man,
From the wicked that
oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
But like mortals you will die, and like rulers you will fall.”
Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
You return man to dust, saying, “Return, O sons of mortals.”
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
Put not your trust in princes, in
mortal man, who cannot save.
Though you
grind a
fool like grain with
mortar and a
pestle, yet his folly will not depart from him.
Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall
devour him: but he shall
flee from the sword, and his young men shall be
discomfited.
“Then Assyria will fall, but not by the sword of man; a sword will
devour them, but not one made by
mortals. They will
flee before the sword, and their young men will be put to forced labor.
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon
morter, and as the
potter treadeth clay.
I have raised up one from the north, and he has come— one from the east who calls on My name. He will march over rulers as if they were
mortar, like a
potter who treads the clay.
I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;
“I, even I, am He who comforts you. Why should you be afraid of
mortal man, of a son of man who
withers like grass?
Wherefore
doth a living man
complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
Because, even because they have
seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others
daubed it with untempered
morter:
Because they have led My people
astray, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and
whitewashing any
flimsy wall that is built,
Say unto them which
daub it with untempered
morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a
stormy wind shall
rend it.
So will I break down the wall that ye have
daubed with untempered
morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will
tear down the wall you
whitewashed and level it to the ground, so that its foundation is exposed. The city will fall, and you will be destroyed within it. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Thus will I
accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have
daubed it with untempered
morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that
daubed it;
And after I have
vented My wrath against the wall and against those who
whitewashed it, I will say to you: ‘The wall is gone, and so are those who
whitewashed it—
And her prophets have
daubed them with untempered
morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.
Her prophets
whitewash these deeds by false visions and lying divinations, saying, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ when the LORD has not spoken.
And I will
strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall
groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man.
I will
strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place My sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, who will
groan before him like a
mortally wounded man.
To the end that none of all the trees by the waters
exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the
nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
This happened so that no other trees by the waters would become great in height and set their tops among the clouds, and no other well-watered trees would reach them in height. For they have all been
consigned to death, to the depths of the earth, among the
mortals who descend to the Pit.’
And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can
shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
What the king requests is so difficult that no one can tell it to him except the gods, whose dwelling is not with mortals.”
Draw your water for the siege;
strengthen your fortresses. Work the clay and
tread the
mortar; repair the brick
kiln!
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and
fourfooted beasts, and
creeping things.
and exchanged the glory of the
immortal God for images of
mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Let not sin therefore reign in your
mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your
mortal body so that you obey its desires.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also
quicken your
mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your
mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do
mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this
mortal must put on immortality.
For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the
mortal with immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the
mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been
swallowed up in victory.”
For we which live are
alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our
mortal flesh.
For we who are alive are always
consigned to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our
mortal body.
For we that are in this tabernacle do
groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that
mortality might be
swallowed up of life.
So while we are in this tent, we
groan under our burdens, because we do not wish to be unclothed but clothed, so that our
mortality may be
swallowed up by life.
Put to death, therefore, the components of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity,
lust, evil desires, and
greed, which is
idolatry.
And here men that die receive
tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was
healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
One of the heads of the beast appeared to be
mortally wounded. But the
mortal wound was
healed, and the whole world
marveled and followed the beast.
And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was
healed.
And this beast exercised all the authority of the first beast and caused the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose
mortal wound had been
healed.
He answered and said unto me, These be they that have put off the
mortal clothing, and put on the
immortal, and have
confessed the name of God: now are they crowned, and receive palms.
Now therefore why disquietest thou
thyself, seeing thou art but a corruptible man? and why art thou moved, whereas thou art but
mortal?
And thou shalt
mortify it as thy creature, and
quicken it as thy work.
Let go from thee
mortal thoughts, cast away the burdens of man, put off now the weak nature,
I myself also am a
mortal man, like to all, and the offspring of him that was first made of the earth,
For the thoughts of
mortal men are
miserable, and our devices are but uncertain.
For being
mortal, he worketh a dead thing with wicked hands: for he himself is better than the things which he worshippeth: whereas he lived once, but they never.
And when he himself could not
abide his own smell, he said these words, It is meet to be subject unto God, and that a man that is
mortal should not proudly think of himself if he were God.
