And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
After two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing beside the Nile,
And, behold, seven other
kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other
kine upon the
brink of the river.
After them, seven other cows, sickly and thin, came up from the Nile and stood beside the well-fed cows on the bank of the river.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph: “In my dream I was standing on the bank of the Nile,
And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
Then Pharaoh commanded all his people: “Every son born to the Hebrews you must throw into the Nile, but every daughter you may allow to live.”
And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and
daubed it with
slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s
brink.
But when she could no longer hide him, she got him a
papyrus basket and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in the
basket and set it among the reeds along the bank of the
Nile.
And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her
maid to
fetch it.
Soon the daughter of Pharaoh went down to
bathe in the
Nile, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. And when she saw the
basket among the reeds, she sent her
maidservant to
retrieve it.
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither
hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
But if they do not believe even these two signs or
listen to your voice, take some water from the
Nile and pour it on the dry ground. Then the water you take from the
Nile will become blood on the ground.”
Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river’s
brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning as you see him walking out to the water. Wait on the bank of the
Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a
snake.
Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will
smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD. Behold, with the staff in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will turn to blood.
And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall
stink; and the Egyptians shall
lothe to drink of the water of the river.
The fish in the
Nile will die, the river will
stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink its water.’”
And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and
smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded; in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials, Aaron raised the staff and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was turned to blood.
And the fish that was in the river died; and the river
stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. And there was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
And all the Egyptians
digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
So all the Egyptians
dug around the
Nile for water to drink, because they could not drink the water from the river.
And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had
smitten the river.
And seven full days passed after the LORD had struck the Nile.
And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy
bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:
The
Nile will
teem with frogs, and they will come into your palace and up to your
bedroom and
onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and your people, and into your ovens and
kneading bowls.
And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me. When shall I pray for you and your officials and your people that the frogs (except for those in the Nile) may be taken away from you and your houses?”
And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.
The frogs will depart from you and your houses and your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod,
wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Walk on
ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take along in your hand the staff with which you struck the
Nile, and go.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the
uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the
bee that is in the land of Assyria.
On that day the LORD will
whistle to the
flies at the
farthest streams of the
Nile and to the bees in the land of Assyria.
And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.
The waters of the
Nile will dry up, and the riverbed will be
parched and empty.
The paper reeds by the
brooks, by the mouth of the
brooks, and every thing sown by the
brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more.
The bulrushes by the Nile, by the mouth of the river, and all the fields sown along the Nile, will wither, blow away, and be no more.
The fishers also shall
mourn, and all they that cast angle into the
brooks shall
lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall
languish.
Then the
fishermen will
mourn, all who cast a hook into the
Nile will
lament, and those who spread nets on the waters will pine away.
And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a
mart of nations.
On the great waters came the grain of Shihor; the harvest of the Nile was the revenue of Tyre; she was the merchant of the nations.
Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of
Tarshish: there is no more strength.
And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?
Now what will you gain on your way to Egypt to drink the waters of the Nile? What will you gain on your way to Assyria to drink the waters of the Euphrates?
Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?
Who is this, rising like the
Nile, like rivers whose waters
churn?
Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.
Egypt rises like the
Nile, and its waters
churn like rivers,
boasting, ‘I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy the cities and their people.’
Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great
dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.
Speak to him and tell him that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt, O great
monster who lies among his rivers, who says, ‘The
Nile is mine; I made it myself.’
And the land of Egypt shall be
desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it.
The land of Egypt will become a
desolate wasteland. Then they will know that I am the LORD. Because you said, ‘The
Nile is mine; I made it,’
Shall not the land
tremble for this, and every one
mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
Will not the land
quake for this, and all its dwellers
mourn? All of it will swell like the
Nile; it will
surge and then
subside like the
Nile in Egypt.
And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall
melt, and all that dwell therein shall
mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be
drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
The Lord GOD of Hosts, He who touches the earth and it melts, and all its dwellers
mourn— all the land rises like the
Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt—
Art thou better than
populous No, that was
situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose
rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?
Are you better than
Thebes, stationed by the
Nile with water around her, whose
rampart was the sea, whose wall was the water?
And he shall pass through the sea with
affliction, and shall
smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the
sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.
They will pass through the sea of distress and strike the waves of the sea; all the depths of the
Nile will dry up. The pride of Assyria will be brought down, and the
scepter of Egypt will depart.
