Also they have shut up the doors of the
porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor
offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel.
They also shut the doors of the
portico and
extinguished the lamps. They did not burn incense or present burnt offerings in the Holy Place of the God of Israel.
And all they that were about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, beside all that was willingly offered.
And all their neighbors supported them with articles of silver and gold, with goods and
livestock, and with valuables, in addition to all their
freewill offerings.
And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:
When they arrived at the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave
freewill offerings to rebuild the house of God on its original site.
And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they
offered burnt offerings
thereon unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
They set up the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD—both the morning and evening burnt offerings—even though they feared the people of the land.
They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;
They also celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles in accordance with what is written, and they offered burnt offerings daily based on the number prescribed for each day.
And afterward
offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the LORD that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly
offered a
freewill offering unto the LORD.
After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings and those for New Moons and for all the appointed sacred feasts of the LORD, as well as all the
freewill offerings brought to the LORD.
In the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be builded, the place where they
offered sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof
threescore cubits;
In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem: Let the house be rebuilt as a place for offering sacrifices, and let its foundations be firmly laid. It is to be sixty cubits high and sixty cubits wide,
And
offered at the
dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.
For the
dedication of the house of God they
offered a hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and a sin offering for all Israel of twelve male goats, one for each tribe of Israel.
And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely
offered unto the God of Israel, whose
habitation is in Jerusalem,
Moreover, you are to take with you the silver and gold that the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,
And
weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had
offered:
and I
weighed out to them the contribution of silver and gold and the articles that the king, his counselors, his leaders, and all the Israelites there had
offered for the house of our God.
Also the children of those that had been carried away, which were come out of the captivity,
offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel,
ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering unto the LORD.
Then the exiles who had returned from captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel: 12 bulls for all Israel, 96 rams, 77 lambs, and a sin offering of 12 male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the LORD.
And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they
offered a ram of the flock for their
trespass.
Maaseiah,
Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah. They
pledged to send their wives away, and for their guilt they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.
And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.
And the people blessed all the men who
volunteered to live in Jerusalem.
Also that day they
offered great sacrifices, and
rejoiced: for God had made them
rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children
rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even
afar off.
On that day they
offered great sacrifices,
rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also
rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard from
afar.
And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and
sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and
offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have
sinned, and
cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
And when the days of feasting were over, Job would send for his children to
purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for all of them. For Job thought, “Perhaps my children have
sinned and
cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, in whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
They joined themselves also unto
Baal-peor, and
ate the sacrifices of the dead.
They yoked themselves to
Baal of Peor and
ate sacrifices
offered to lifeless gods.
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that
plucked off the hair: I
hid not my face from shame and
spitting.
I
offered My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who
tore out My
beard. I did not hide My face from
scorn and
spittle.
Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; indeed, they are your lot. Even to them you have poured out a drink offering and offered a grain offering. Should I relent because of these?
He that killeth an ox is as if he
slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offereth an
oblation, as if he
offered swine’s blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an
idol.
Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who slays a man;
whoever sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever presents a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood;
whoever offers
frankincense is like one who blesses an
idol. Indeed, they have chosen their own ways and delighted in their abominations.
Neither shall men
tear themselves for them in
mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of
consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
No food will be
offered to comfort those who
mourn the dead; not even a cup of
consolation will be given for the loss of a father or mother.
And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have
offered incense unto
Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to
provoke me to anger.
And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will come in, set it on fire, and burn it, along with the houses of those who
provoked Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal on their rooftops and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods.
Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, and under every green tree and
leafy oak—the places where they
offered fragrant incense to all their idols.
For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they
offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the
provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
When I brought them into the land that I
swore to give them and they saw any high hill or
leafy tree, there they
offered their sacrifices, presented offerings that
provoked Me, sent up their
fragrant incense, and poured out their drink offerings.
Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she
doted: with all their idols she
defiled herself.
She
offered sexual favors to all the
elite of Assyria. She
defiled herself with all the idols of those for whom she
lusted.
In that ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers,
uncircumcised in heart, and
uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to
pollute it, even my house, when ye offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant because of all your abominations.
In addition to all your other abominations, you brought in foreigners
uncircumcised in both heart and flesh to occupy My sanctuary; you
defiled My temple when you
offered My food—the fat and the blood; you broke My covenant.
Then said he unto me, These are the places of them that
boil, where the ministers of the house shall
boil the sacrifice of the people.
And he said to me, “These are the kitchens where those who minister at the temple will
cook the sacrifices
offered by the people.”
And this
oblation of the land that is
offered shall be unto them a thing most holy by the border of the Levites.
It will be a special portion for them set apart from the land, a most holy portion adjacent to the territory of the Levites.
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.
Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will put an end to his reproach and will turn it back upon him.
Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
Then the men feared the LORD greatly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to Him.
For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
For My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place, incense and pure offerings will be presented in My name, because My name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of Hosts.
They gave him
vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, He refused to drink it.
And they gave him to drink wine mingled with
myrrh: but he received it not.
There they
offered Him wine mixed with
myrrh, but He did not take it.
And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his
hire. Go not from house to house.
Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
And they made a
calf in those days, and
offered sacrifice unto the
idol, and
rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
At that time they made a
calf and
offered a sacrifice to the
idol,
rejoicing in the works of their hands.
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money.
You must
abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things
offered to idols, and from blood, and from
strangled, and from
fornication.
As for the
Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they must
abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”
Then Paul took the men, and the next day
purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to
signify the
accomplishment of the days of
purification, until that an offering should be
offered for every one of them.
So the next day Paul took the men and
purified himself along with them. Then he entered the temple to give notice of the date when their
purification would be complete and the offering would be made for each of them.
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are
offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an
idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
So about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an
idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the
idol unto this hour eat it as a thing
offered unto an
idol; and their conscience being weak is
defiled.
But not
everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were sacrificed to an
idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is
defiled.
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the
idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be
emboldened to eat those things which are
offered to idols;
For if someone with a weak conscience sees you who are well informed eating in an
idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged to eat food sacrificed to idols?
What say I then? that the
idol is any thing, or that which is
offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
Am I suggesting, then, that food sacrificed to an
idol is anything, or that an
idol is anything?
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have
fellowship with devils.
No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be participants with demons.
But if any man say unto you, This is
offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the
fulness thereof:
But if someone tells you, “This food was offered to idols,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience—
Yea, and if I be
offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and
rejoice with you all.
But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am
glad and
rejoice with all of you.
I
exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of
thanks, be made for all men;
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He
offered up prayers and petitions with loud
cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
But only the high priest entered the second room, and then only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.
Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
It is an illustration for the present time, because the gifts and sacrifices being
offered were unable to
cleanse the conscience of the worshiper.
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered himself without spot to God,
purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered Himself
unblemished to God,
purify our consciences from works of death, so that we may serve the living God!
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
so also Christ was
offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly
await Him.
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they
offered year by year continually make the comers
thereunto perfect.
For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the
realities themselves. It can never, by the same sacrifices
offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
For then would they not have ceased to be
offered? because that the worshippers once
purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
If it could, would not the offerings have ceased? For the worshipers would have been
cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt the guilt of their sins.
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
In the passage above He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor did You delight in them” (although they are offered according to the law).
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God.
By faith
Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than
Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God
testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
By faith
Abel offered God a better sacrifice than
Cain did. By faith he was
commended as righteous when God gave
approval to his gifts. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.
By faith Abraham, when he was tried,
offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises
offered up his only
begotten son,
By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac on the altar. He who had received the promises was ready to offer his one and only son,
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Was not our father Abraham justified by what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be
forgiven him.
And the prayer
offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has
sinned, he will be
forgiven.
And Josias held the feast of the
passover in Jerusalem unto his Lord, and
offered the
passover the
fourteenth day of the first month;
For the priests offered the fat until night: and the Levites prepared for themselves, and the priests their brethren, the sons of Aaron.
And there were gathered unto them out of the other nations of the land, and they erected the altar upon his own place, because all the nations of the land were at
enmity with them, and
oppressed them; and they
offered sacrifices according to the time, and burnt offerings to the Lord both morning and evening.
Also they held the feast of tabernacles, as it is commanded in the law, and offered sacrifices daily, as was meet:
And to the
dedication of the temple of the Lord they
offered an hundred bullocks two hundred rams, four hundred lambs;
And so they
offered the
passover for all them of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.
Moreover they that were come out of the captivity
offered sacrifice unto the Lord God of Israel, even twelve bullocks for all Israel,
fourscore and sixteen rams,
Because the sins of their fathers are increased in them: for they have forgotten me, and have offered unto strange gods.
But after thirty years Solomon builded the city and offered offerings: and then bare the barren a son.
And there came much people unto him,
whereof some were
glad, some were
sorry, and some of them were bound, and other some brought of them that were
offered: then was I sick through great fear, and I
awaked, and said,
For, behold, the burning wrath of a great multitude is
kindled over you, and they shall take away certain of you, and feed you, being idle, with things
offered unto idols.
Then
Tobit said, Thou art
welcome, brother; be not now
angry with me, because I have enquired to know thy tribe and thy family; for thou art my brother, of an
honest and good stock: for I know
Ananias and Jonathas, sons of that great Samaias, as we went together to Jerusalem to worship, and
offered the
firstborn, and the tenths of the fruits; and they were not
seduced with the error of our brethren: my brother, thou art of a good stock.
And Joacim the high priest, and all the priests that stood before the Lord, and they which ministered unto the Lord, had their loins
girt with
sackcloth, and
offered the daily burnt offerings, with the vows and free gifts of the people,
Judith fell upon her face, and put ashes upon her head, and uncovered the
sackcloth wherewith she was clothed; and about the time that the incense of that evening was
offered in Jerusalem in the house of the Lord
Judith cried with a loud voice, and said,
Now as soon as they entered into Jerusalem, they worshipped the Lord; and as soon as the people were
purified, they
offered their burnt offerings, and their free offerings, and their gifts.
He called upon the mighty Lord, when his enemies pressed upon him on every side, when he
offered the
sucking lamb.
And offered sacrifice according to the law upon the new altar of burnt offerings, which they had made.
And so they kept the
dedication of the altar eight days and
offered burnt offerings with
gladness, and sacrificed the sacrifice of
deliverance and praise.
So they went up to mount
Sion with joy and
gladness, where they
offered burnt offerings, because not one of them were slain until they had returned in peace.
After this went Nicanor up to mount
Sion, and there came out of the sanctuary certain of the priests and certain of the elders of the people, to
salute him
peaceably, and to
shew him the burnt sacrifice that was
offered for the king.
And burned the
porch, and shed innocent blood: then we prayed unto the Lord, and were heard; we
offered also sacrifices and fine flour, and lighted the lamps, and set forth the
loaves.
Therefore whereas we are now purposed to keep the
purification of the temple upon the five and
twentieth day of the month Casleu, we thought it necessary to
certify you thereof, that ye also might keep it, as the feast of the tabernacles, and of the fire, which was given us when Neemias
offered sacrifice, after that he had builded the temple and the altar.
It was also declared, that he being wise
offered the sacrifice of
dedication, and of the finishing of the temple.
So the high priest,
suspecting lest the king should misconceive that some
treachery had been done to
Heliodorus by the Jews,
offered a sacrifice for the health of the man.
So
Heliodorus, after he had
offered sacrifice unto the Lord, and made great vows unto him that had saved his life, and
saluted Onias, returned with his host to the king.
And having
cleansed the temple they made another altar, and striking stones they took fire out of them, and
offered a sacrifice after two years, and set forth incense, and lights, and
shewbread.
Heard that Philip, who was left over the affairs in Antioch, was
desperately bent, confounded, intreated the Jews, submitted himself, and
sware to all equal conditions, agreed with them, and
offered sacrifice, honoured the temple, and dealt kindly with the place,
