Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;
Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his court officials, to bring in some Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—
Unto whom the
prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of
Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to
Azariah, of
Abed-nego.
The chief official gave them new names: To Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah,
Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to
Azariah,
Abednego.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not
defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he
drank: therefore he requested of the
prince of the eunuchs that he might not
defile himself.
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not
defile himself with the king’s food or wine. So he asked the chief official for permission not to
defile himself.
Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
Now God had granted Daniel favor and
compassion from the chief official,
And the
prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me
endanger my head to the king.
but he said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking
thinner than those of the other young men your age? You would
endanger my head before the king!”
Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the
prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah,
Then Daniel said to the
steward whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah,
Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the
prince of the eunuchs brought them in before
Nebuchadnezzar.
Now at the end of the time specified by the king, the chief official presented them to
Nebuchadnezzar.
Then
Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the
princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the
dedication of the image which
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Then King
Nebuchadnezzar sent word to
assemble the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the other officials of the provinces to attend the
dedication of the statue he had set up.
Then the
princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the
dedication of the image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that
Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the rulers of the provinces assembled for the
dedication of the statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it.
And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
and when the satraps, prefects, governors, and royal advisers had gathered around, they saw that the fire had no effect on the bodies of these men. Not a hair of their heads was singed, their robes were unaffected, and there was no smell of fire on them.
Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father
Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his
princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
Under the influence of the wine,
Belshazzar gave orders to bring in the gold and silver vessels that
Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king could drink from them, along with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines.
Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his
princes, his wives, and his concubines,
drank in them.
Thus they brought in the gold vessels that had been taken from the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king
drank from them, along with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines.
It pleased
Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty
princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
Now it pleased
Darius to
appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom,
And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
and over them three administrators, including Daniel, to whom these satraps were accountable so that the king would not suffer loss.
Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
Soon, by his extraordinary spirit, Daniel distinguished himself among the administrators and satraps. So the king
planned to set him over the whole kingdom.
Then the presidents and
princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault;
forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
Thus the administrators and satraps sought a charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no charge or corruption, because he was
trustworthy, and no
negligence or corruption was found in him.
Then these presidents and
princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King
Darius, live for ever.
So the administrators and satraps went together to the king and said, “O King
Darius, may you live
forever!
All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the
princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that
whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
All the royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors have agreed that the king should establish an
ordinance and
enforce a decree that for thirty days
anyone who petitions any god or man except you, O king, will be thrown into the den of lions.
Yea, he
magnified himself even to the
prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
It
magnified itself, even to the
Prince of the host; it removed His daily sacrifice and overthrew the place of His sanctuary.
And through his policy also he shall cause craft to
prosper in his hand; and he shall
magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the
Prince of
princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Through his craft and by his hand, he will cause
deceit to
prosper, and in his own mind he will make himself great. In a time of peace he will destroy many, and he will even stand against the
Prince of
princes. Yet he will be broken off, but not by human hands.
Neither have we
hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our
princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
We have not
listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, and fathers, and to all the people of the land.
O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our
princes, and to our fathers, because we have
sinned against thee.
O LORD, we are covered with shame—our kings, our leaders, and our fathers—because we have
sinned against You.
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the
Messiah the
Prince shall be seven weeks, and
threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in
troublous times.
Know and understand this: From the
issuance of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until the
Messiah, the
Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be rebuilt with streets and a
trench, but in times of distress.
And after
threescore and two weeks shall
Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the
prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Then after the sixty-two weeks the
Messiah will be cut off and will have nothing. Then the people of the
prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood, and until the end there will be war; desolations have been decreed.
But the
prince of the kingdom of Persia
withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief
princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.
Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the
prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the
prince of
Grecia shall come.
“Do you know why I have come to you?” he said. “I must return at once to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I have gone forth, behold, the prince of Greece will come.
But I will
shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your
prince.
But first I will tell you what is inscribed in the Book of Truth. Yet no one has the courage to support me against these, except Michael your prince.
And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
The king of the South will grow strong, but one of his commanders will grow even stronger and will rule his own kingdom with great authority.
And shall also carry
captives into Egypt their gods, with their
princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north.
He will take even their gods
captive to Egypt, with their metal images and their precious vessels of silver and gold. For some years he will stay away from the king of the North,
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.
Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will put an end to his reproach and will turn it back upon him.
And with the arms of a flood shall they be
overflown from before him, and shall be broken;
yea, also the
prince of the covenant.
Then a flood of forces will be swept away before him and destroyed, along with a prince of the covenant.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
“At that time Michael, the great
prince who stands watch over your people, will rise up. There will be a time of distress, the likes of which will not have occurred from the beginning of nations until that time. But at that time your people—
everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered.
For the children of Israel shall
abide many days without a king, and without a
prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an
ephod, and without
teraphim:
For the Israelites must live many days without king or
prince, without sacrifice or sacred
pillar, and without
ephod or
idol.
The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound: therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.
The
princes of Judah are like those who move boundary stones; I will pour out My
fury upon them like water.
They make the king
glad with their wickedness, and the
princes with their lies.
They delight the king with their evil, and the princes with their lies.
In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
The
princes are inflamed with wine on the day of our king; so he joins hands with those who
mock him.
They return, but not to the most High: they are like a
deceitful bow: their
princes shall fall by the sword for the
rage of their tongue: this shall be their
derision in the land of Egypt.
They turn, but not to the Most High; they are like a
faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword for the
cursing of their tongue; for this they will be
ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.
They set up kings, but not by Me. They make
princes, but without My
approval. With their silver and gold they make themselves idols, to their own destruction.
Yea, though they have
hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of
princes.
Though they
hire allies among the nations, I will now round them up, and they will begin to diminish under the oppression of the king of
princes.
All their wickedness is in
Gilgal: for there I
hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their
princes are revolters.
All their evil appears at
Gilgal, for there I
hated them. I will drive them from My house for the wickedness of their deeds. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are
rebellious.
I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?
Where is your king now to save you in all your cities, and the rulers to whom you said, “Give me a king and princes”?
And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
Their king will go into exile— he and his princes together,” says the LORD.
And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will
slay all the
princes thereof with him, saith the LORD.
I will cut off the ruler of Moab and kill all the officials with him,” says the LORD.
And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?
Then I said: “Hear now, O leaders of Jacob, you rulers of the house of Israel. Should you not know justice?
Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and
princes of the house of Israel, that
abhor judgment, and
pervert all
equity.
Now hear this, O leaders of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who
despise justice and
pervert all that is right,
That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the
prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his
mischievous desire: so they
wrap it up.
Both hands are skilled at evil; the
prince and the judge demand a
bribe. When the powerful utters his evil desire, they all
conspire together.
And they shall
scoff at the kings, and the
princes shall be a
scorn unto them: they shall
deride every strong hold; for they shall
heap dust, and take it.
They
scoff at kings and make rulers an object of
scorn. They
laugh at every fortress and build up siege ramps to seize it.
And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’S sacrifice, that I will
punish the
princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange
apparel.
“On the Day of the LORD’s sacrifice I will
punish the
princes, the sons of the king, and all who are dressed in foreign
apparel.
Her
princes are
roaring lions; her judges are evening
wolves, leaving nothing for the morning.
And thou
Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the
princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
‘But you,
Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will be the
shepherd of My people Israel.’”
But the
Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the
prince of the devils.
But the
Pharisees said, “It is by the
prince of demons that He drives out demons.”
But when the
Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow
doth not cast out devils, but by
Beelzebub the
prince of the devils.
But when the
Pharisees heard this, they said, “Only by Beelzebul, the
prince of demons, does this man drive out demons.”
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
But Jesus called them aside and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them.
And the
scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath
Beelzebub, and by the
prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
And the
scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the
prince of the demons He drives out demons.”
But some of them said, He casteth out devils through
Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
but some of them said, “It is by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons, that He drives out demons.”
Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
Now judgment is upon this world; now the prince of this world will be cast out.
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the
prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world has been condemned.
And killed the
Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead;
whereof we are witnesses.
You killed the Author of life, but God raised Him from the dead, and we are witnesses of the fact.
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the
princes of this world, that come to
nought:
Among the
mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom—but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
Which none of the
princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory.
None of the rulers of this age understood it. For if they had, they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory.
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
in which you used to walk when you
conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience.
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first
begotten of the dead, and the
prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the
firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood,
But joined battle with him in the plain of Magiddo, and the princes came against king Josias.
Now when
Darius reigned, he made a great feast unto all his subjects, and unto all his household, and unto all the
princes of Media and Persia,
And said that, when the king is risen, some will give him the writings; and of whose side the king and the three princes of Persia shall judge that his sentence is the wisest, to him shall the victory be given, as was appointed.
And sending forth he called all the princes of Persia and Media, and the governors, and the captains, and the lieutenants, and the chief officers;
Then the king and the princes looked one upon another: so he began to speak of the truth.
And now, O lord the king, this is that which I require, and which I desire of thee, and this is the
princely liberality proceeding from
thyself: I desire therefore that thou make good the
vow, the performance
whereof with thine own mouth thou hast
vowed to the King of heaven.
And I
weighed them the gold, and the silver, and the holy vessels of the house of our Lord, which the king, and his council, and the
princes, and all Israel, had given.
The nation of Israel, the
princes, the priests and Levites, have not put away from them the strange people of the land, nor the pollutions of the Gentiles to wit, of the
Canaanites,
Hittites, Pheresites, Jebusites, and the Moabites, Egyptians, and Edomites.
For there shall be
sedition among men, and
invading one another; they shall not regard their kings nor
princes, and the course of their actions shall stand in their power.
Wherewith he was very
angry, and called all the
princes of Moab, and the captains of
Ammon, and all the governors of the sea coast,
And he answered and declared unto them the words of the council of Holofernes, and all the words that he had spoken in the midst of the
princes of Assur, and
whatsoever Holofernes had spoken proudly against the house of Israel.
Then said Ozias and the
princes unto her, Go in peace, and the Lord God be before thee, to take
vengeance on our enemies.
Smite by the
deceit of my lips the servant with the
prince, and the
prince with the servant: break down their
stateliness by the hand of a woman.
The copy of the letters was this: The great king Artexerxes writeth these things to the
princes and governours that are under him from India unto
Ethiopia in an hundred and seven and twenty provinces.
The great king Artexerxes unto the
princes and governors of an hundred and seven and twenty provinces from India unto
Ethiopia, and unto all our faithful subjects,
greeting.
Many, the more often they are honoured with the great
bounty of their
gracious princes, the more proud they are
waxen,
The Lord hath cast down the thrones of proud
princes, and set up the
meek in their
stead.
He shall serve among great men, and appear before princes: he will travel through strange countries; for he hath tried the good and the evil among men.
Be
ashamed of
whoredom before father and mother: and of a lie before a
prince and a mighty man;
Samuel, the prophet of the Lord, beloved of his Lord, established a kingdom, and
anointed princes over his people.
And he destroyed the rulers of the Tyrians, and all the princes cf the Philistines.
Elias it was, who was covered with a
whirlwind: and Eliseus was filled with his spirit: whilst he lived, he was not moved with the presence of any
prince, neither could any bring him into subjection.
After that Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had carried away Jechonias, and the
princes, and the
captives, and the mighty men, and the people of the land, from Jerusalem, and brought them unto Babylon.
And to our kings, and to our princes, and to our priests, and to our prophets, and to our fathers:
Therefore the Lord hath made good his word, which he pronounced against us, and against our judges that judged Israel, and against our kings, and against our princes, and against the men of Israel and Juda,
Where are the princes of the heathen become, and such as ruled the beasts upon the earth;
Neither is there at this time
prince, or prophet, or leader, or burnt offering, or sacrifice, or
oblation, or incense, or place to sacrifice before thee, and to find mercy.
So that the
princes and elders
mourned, the virgins and young men were made feeble, and the beauty of women was changed.
Now when
Seron, a
prince of the army of Syria, heard say that
Judas had gathered unto him a multitude and company of the faithful to go out with him to war;
So the king and the princes were content: wherefore he sent unto them to make peace; and they accepted thereof.
Also the king and the
princes made an oath unto them:
whereupon they went out of the strong hold.
Then the king sent Nicanor, one of his honourable
princes, a man that bare deadly
hate unto Israel, with commandment to destroy the people.
Now therefore we have chosen thee this day to be our
prince and captain in his
stead, that thou mayest fight our battles.
After this came word to
Jonathan and Simon his brother, that the children of Jambri made a great marriage, and were bringing the
bride from Nadabatha with a great train, as being the daughter of one of the great
princes of Chanaan.
And he made him sit by himself, and said into his
princes, Go with him into the midst of the city, and make
proclamation, that no man
complain against him of any matter, and that no man trouble him for any manner of cause.
