Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my
sister, my love, my
dove, my
undefiled: for my head is filled with
dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.
We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?
We have a little sister, and her breasts are not yet grown. What shall we do for our sister on the day she is spoken for?
And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her
treacherous sister Judah saw it.
I thought that after she had done all these things, she would return to Me. But she did not return, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby
backsliding Israel committed
adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of
divorce; yet her
treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the
harlot also.
She saw that because faithless Israel had committed
adultery, I gave her a
certificate of
divorce and sent her away. Yet that unfaithful
sister Judah had no fear and
prostituted herself as well.
And yet for all this her
treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but
feignedly, saith the LORD.
Yet in spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but only in pretense,” declares the LORD.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah; They shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah my brother! or,
Ah sister! they shall not
lament for him, saying,
Ah lord! or,
Ah his glory!
Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou art the
sister of thy
sisters, which
lothed their husbands and their children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
You are the daughter of your mother, who
despised her husband and children. You are the
sister of your
sisters, who
despised their husbands and children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.
And thine elder
sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger
sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is
Sodom and her daughters.
Your older
sister was Samaria, who lived with her daughters to your north; and your younger
sister was
Sodom, who lived with her daughters to your south.
As I live, saith the Lord GOD,
Sodom thy
sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, your
sister Sodom and her daughters never did as you and your daughters have done.
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy
sister Sodom, pride,
fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she
strengthen the hand of the poor and
needy.
Now this was the iniquity of your
sister Sodom: She and her daughters were
arrogant, overfed, and
complacent; they did not help the poor and
needy.
Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
Furthermore, Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have multiplied your abominations beyond theirs, and all the abominations you have committed have made your
sisters appear righteous.
Thou also, which hast judged thy
sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more
abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou:
yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy
sisters.
So now you must bear your disgrace, since you have brought
justification for your
sisters. For they appear more righteous than you, because your sins were more
vile than theirs. So you too must bear your shame and disgrace, since you have made your
sisters appear righteous.
When thy
sisters,
Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.
And your
sisters,
Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to their former state. You and your daughters will also return to your former state.
For thy
sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,
Did you not treat your
sister Sodom as an object of
scorn in the day of your pride,
Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be
ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy
sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.
Then you will remember your ways and be
ashamed when you receive your older and younger
sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of My covenant with you.
And one hath committed
abomination with his neighbour’s wife; and another hath
lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his
sister, his father’s daughter.
One man commits an
abomination with his
neighbor’s wife; another wickedly defiles his daughter-in-law; and yet another
violates his
sister, his own father’s daughter.
And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and
Aholibah her
sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem
Aholibah.
The older was named Oholah, and her
sister was named Oholibah. They became Mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. As for their
identities, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
And when her
sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her
inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her
sister in her whoredoms.
So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was
alienated from her, like as my mind was
alienated from her
sister.
When Oholibah openly
prostituted herself and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in
disgust, just as I had turned away from her
sister.
Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.
Because you have followed the path of your sister, I will put her cup into your hand.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou shalt drink of thy
sister’s cup deep and large: thou shalt be
laughed to
scorn and had in
derision; it containeth much.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You will drink your
sister’s cup, a cup deep and wide. It will bring
scorn and
derision, for it holds so much.
And
furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a
messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou
didst wash
thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst
thyself with ornaments,
Furthermore, you
sisters sent messengers for men who came from
afar; and behold, when they arrived, you bathed for them, painted your eyes, and adorned
yourself with
jewelry.
And they shall come at no dead person to
defile themselves: but for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for
sister that hath had no husband, they may
defile themselves.
A priest must not
defile himself by going near a dead person. However, for a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, or an unmarried
sister, he may do so,
Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your
sisters, Ru-
hamah.
“Say of your brothers, ‘My people,’ and of your sisters, ‘My loved one.’
For
whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and
sister, and mother.
For
whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and
sister and mother.”
And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
Aren’t all His sisters with us as well? Where then did this man get all these things?”
And every one that hath
forsaken houses, or brethren, or
sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an
hundredfold, and shall
inherit everlasting life.
And
everyone who has left houses or brothers or
sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for the sake of My name will receive a
hundredfold and will
inherit eternal life.
For
whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my
sister, and mother.
For
whoever does the will of God is My brother and
sister and mother.”
Is not this the
carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his
sisters here with us? And they were
offended at him.
Isn’t this the
carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joses,
Judas, and Simon? Aren’t His
sisters here with us as well?” And they took
offense at Him.
And Jesus answered and said,
Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or
sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel
But he shall receive an
hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and
sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
will fail to receive a
hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and
sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
She had a
sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet
listening to His message.
But
Martha was
cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord,
dost thou not care that my
sister hath left me to serve alone?
bid her therefore that she help me.
But
Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my
sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”
If any man come to me, and
hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and
sisters,
yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
“If
anyone comes to Me and does not
hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and
sisters—
yes, even his own life—he cannot be My disciple.
At this time a man named
Lazarus was sick. He lived in
Bethany, the village of Mary and her
sister Martha.
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one You love is sick.”
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
After
Martha had said this, she went back and called her
sister Mary aside to tell her, “The Teacher is here and is asking for you.”
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone.
Martha, the
sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
“Take away the stone,” Jesus said. “Lord, by now he stinks,” said
Martha, the
sister of the dead man. “It has already been four days.”
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother and her sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene.
And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.
But when the son of Paul’s
sister heard about the plot, he went into the
barracks and told Paul.
I

I
commend to you our

Salute Philologus, and Julia,
Nereus, and his
sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them.
Greet Philologus and Julia,
Nereus and his
sister, and Olympas and all the saints with them.
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a
sister is not under
bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
But if the unbeliever leaves, let him go. The believing brother or sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace.
Have we not power to lead about a
sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and
Cephas?
Have we no right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and
Cephas?
Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and
Marcus,
sister’s son to
Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)
My fellow prisoner
Aristarchus sends you greetings, as does Mark the cousin of
Barnabas. You have already received instructions about him: If he comes to you,
welcome him.

And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:
to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church that meets at your house:

At the same time came unto them Sisinnes the governor of Syria and Phenice, with Sathrabuzanes and his companions, and said unto them,
The copy of the letters which
Sisinnes, governor of Syria and Phenice, and Sathrabuzanes, with their companions, rulers in Syria and Phenice, wrote and sent unto
Darius; To king
Darius,
greeting:
And also he commanded that
Sisinnes the governor of Syria and Phenice, and Sathrabuzanes, and their companions, and those which were appointed rulers in Syria and Phenice, should be careful not to
meddle with the place, but suffer Zorobabel, the servant of the Lord, and governor of
Judea, and the elders of the Jews, to build the house of the Lord in that place.
Then
Sisinnes the governor of Celosyria and Phenice, and Sathrabuzanes, with their companions following the commandments of king
Darius,
Then said
Tobit to her, Take no care, my
sister; he shall return in safety, and thine eyes shall see him.
After Raguel called his wife Edna, and said unto her, Sister, prepare another chamber, and bring her in thither.
And after that they were both shut in together, Tobias rose out of the bed, and said,
Sister, arise, and let us pray that God would have
pity on us.
And now, O Lord, I take not this my
sister for
lust but uprightly: therefore
mercifully ordain that we may become aged together.
