So will I break down the
wall that ye have
daubed with untempered
morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will
tear down the
wall you
whitewashed and level it to the ground, so that its foundation is exposed. The city will fall, and you will be destroyed within it. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Thus will I
accomplish my wrath upon the
wall, and upon them that have
daubed it with untempered
morter, and will say unto you, The
wall is no more, neither they that
daubed it;
And after I have
vented My wrath against the
wall and against those who
whitewashed it, I will say to you: ‘The
wall is gone, and so are those who
whitewashed it—
And when I passed by thee, and saw thee
polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood, Live;
yea, I said unto thee when thou
wast in thy blood, Live.
Then I passed by and saw you
wallowing in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, ‘Live!’ There I said to you, ‘Live!’
And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou
wast naked and bare, and
wast polluted in thy blood.
And in all your abominations and acts of
prostitution, you did not remember the days of your youth when you were naked and bare,
wallowing in your own blood.
Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:
Pharaoh with his mighty army and vast
horde will not help him in battle, when ramps are built and siege
walls constructed to destroy many lives.
At his right hand was the
divination for Jerusalem, to
appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with
shouting, to
appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort.
In his right hand appears the
portent for Jerusalem, where he is to set up
battering rams, to call for the slaughter, to lift a battle cry, to direct the
battering rams against the gates, to build a
ramp, and to erect a siege
wall.
Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to
defile herself.
and tell her that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘O city who brings her own
doom by
shedding blood within her
walls and making idols to
defile herself,
In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they
vexed the fatherless and the widow.
Father and mother are treated with contempt. Within your
walls the foreign resident is exploited, the fatherless and the widow are
oppressed.
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the
hedge, and stand in the
gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
I searched for a man among them to repair the
wall and stand in the
gap before Me on behalf of the land, so that I should not destroy it. But I found no one.
And that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the
wall, the images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with
vermilion,
And they shall destroy the
walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also
scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock.
They will destroy the
walls of Tyre and
demolish her towers. I will
scrape the soil from her and make her a bare rock.
He shall
slay with the sword thy daughters in the field: and he shall make a fort against thee, and cast a mount against thee, and lift up the
buckler against thee.
He will slaughter the villages of your mainland with the sword; he will set up siege works against you, build a
ramp to your
walls, and raise his shields against you.
And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers.
He will direct the blows of his
battering rams against your
walls and
tear down your towers with his axes.
By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover thee: thy
walls shall
shake at the noise of the
horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the
chariots, when he shall enter into thy gates, as men enter into a city wherein is made a breach.
His multitude of horses will cover you in their dust. When he enters your gates as an army entering a breached city, your
walls will
shake from the noise of cavalry, wagons, and
chariots.
And they shall make a
spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy
merchandise: and they shall break down thy
walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses: and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the water.
They of Persia and of Lud and of
Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they
hanged the shield and
helmet in thee; they set forth thy
comeliness.
Men of Persia,
Lydia, and Put served as warriors in your army. They hung their shields and helmets on your
walls; they gave you
splendor.
The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy
walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they
hanged their shields upon thy
walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect.
Men of Arvad and Helech
manned your
walls all around, and the men of Gammad were in your towers. They hung their shields around your
walls; they perfected your beauty.
And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall
wallow themselves in the ashes:
They will raise their voices for you and cry out bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads and roll in ashes.
Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
As for you, son of man, your people are talking about you near the city walls and in the doorways of their houses. One speaks to another, each saying to his brother, ‘Come and hear the message that has come from the LORD!’
And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will come against a
tranquil people who dwell securely, all of them living without
walls or bars or gates—
So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all
creeping things that
creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall
shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every
wall shall fall to the ground.
The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that crawls upon the ground, and all mankind on the face of the earth will
tremble at My presence. The mountains will be thrown down, the cliffs will
collapse, and every
wall will fall to the ground.
And behold a
wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the
cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.
And I saw a
wall surrounding the temple area. Now the length of the measuring rod in the man’s hand was six long cubits (each measuring a
cubit and a
handbreadth), and he measured the
wall to be one rod thick and one rod high.
The space also before the little chambers was one
cubit on this side, and the space was one
cubit on that side: and the little chambers were six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
In front of each gate chamber was a
wall one
cubit high, and the gate chambers were six cubits square.
Then went he inward, and measured the post of the door, two cubits; and the door, six cubits; and the breadth of the door, seven cubits.
And he went into the inner sanctuary and measured the side pillars at the entrance to be two cubits wide. The entrance was six cubits wide, and the walls on each side were seven cubits wide.
After he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of every side chamber, four cubits, round about the house on every side.
Next he measured the wall of the temple to be six cubits thick, and the width of each side room around the temple was four cubits.
And the side chambers were three, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house.
The side rooms were arranged one above another in three levels of thirty rooms each. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports would not be fastened into the wall of the temple itself.
And there was an
enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst.
The side rooms surrounding the temple
widened at each successive level, because the structure surrounding the temple ascended by stages corresponding to the narrowing of the temple
wall as it rose upward. And so a
stairway went up from the lowest story to the highest, through the middle one.
The thickness of the wall, which was for the side chamber without, was five cubits: and that which was left was the place of the side chambers that were within.
The outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits thick, and the open area between the side rooms of the temple
Now the building that was before the separate place at the end toward the west was seventy cubits broad; and the
wall of the building was five cubits thick round about, and the length thereof
ninety cubits.
Now the building that faced the temple
courtyard on the west was seventy cubits wide, and the
wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, with a length of
ninety cubits.
So he measured the house, an hundred cubits long; and the separate place, and the building, with the walls thereof, an hundred cubits long;
Then he measured the temple to be a hundred cubits long, and the temple
courtyard and the building with its
walls were also a hundred cubits long.
To that above the door, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, by measure.
In the space above the outside of the entrance to the inner sanctuary on all the walls, spaced evenly around the inner and outer sanctuary,
From the ground unto above the door were cherubims and palm trees made, and on the wall of the temple.
Cherubim and palm trees were carved on the
wall of the outer sanctuary from the floor to the space above the entrance.
The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the LORD.
There was an altar of wood three cubits high and two cubits square. Its corners, base, and sides were of wood. And the man told me, “This is the table that is before the LORD.”
And there were made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubims and palm trees, like as were made upon the
walls; and there were thick planks upon the face of the
porch without.
Cherubim and palm trees like those on the
walls were carved on the doors of the outer sanctuary, and there was a wooden
canopy outside, on the front of the
portico.
Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.
Then the man led me out northward into the outer court, and he brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple
courtyard and the outer
wall on the north side.
And the
wall that was without over against the chambers, toward the utter court on the
forepart of the chambers, the length thereof was fifty cubits.
An outer wall in front of the chambers was fifty cubits long and ran parallel to the chambers and the outer court.
The chambers were in the thickness of the wall of the court toward the east, over against the separate place, and over against the building.
On the south side along the length of the
wall of the outer court were chambers adjoining the
courtyard and opposite the building,
And according to the doors of the chambers that were toward the south was a door in the head of the way, even the way directly before the wall toward the east, as one entereth into them.
And corresponding to the doors of the chambers that were facing south, there was a door in front of the walkway that was parallel to the wall extending eastward.
He measured it by the four sides: it had a
wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the
profane place.
So he measured the area on all four sides. It had a wall all around, five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide, to separate the holy from the common.
In their setting of their
threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the
wall between me and them, they have even
defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.
When they placed their
threshold next to My
threshold and their doorposts beside My doorposts, with only a
wall between Me and them, they
defiled My holy name by the abominations they committed. Therefore I have consumed them in My anger.
And there was a row of building round about in them, round about them four, and it was made with boiling places under the rows round about.
Around the inside of each of the four courts was a row of masonry with ovens built at the base of the walls on all sides.
In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the
candlestick upon the
plaister of the
wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
At that moment the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the
plaster of the
wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. As the king watched the hand that was writing,
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the
Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and
threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the
wall, even in
troublous times.
Know and understand this: From the
issuance of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until the
Messiah, the Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be rebuilt with streets and a
trench, but in times of distress.
Therefore, behold, I will
hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a
wall, that she shall not find her paths.
Therefore, behold, I will
hedge up her path with thorns; I will
enclose her with a
wall, so she cannot find her way.
They shall run like mighty men; they shall
climb the
wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
They charge like mighty men; they scale the
walls like men of war. Each one marches in formation, not
swerving from the course.
They shall run to and
fro in the city; they shall run upon the
wall, they shall
climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a
thief.
They storm the city; they run along the
wall; they
climb into houses, entering through windows like
thieves.
But I will send a fire on the
wall of
Gaza, which shall
devour the palaces thereof:
So I will send fire upon the
walls of
Gaza, to
consume its citadels.
But I will send a fire on the
wall of Tyrus, which shall
devour the palaces thereof.
So I will send fire upon the
walls of Tyre to
consume its citadels.”
So I will
kindle a fire in the
walls of Rabbah to
consume its citadels amid war
cries on the day of battle and a violent wind on the day of
tempest.
And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.
You will go out through broken
walls, each one straight
ahead of her, and you will be cast out toward Harmon,” declares the LORD.
As if a man did
flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and
leaned his hand on the
wall, and a serpent
bit him.
It will be like a man who flees from a lion, only to
encounter a bear, or who enters his house and rests his hand against the
wall, only to be
bitten by a
snake.
Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
This is what He showed me: Behold, the Lord was standing by a
wall true to
plumb, with a
plumb line in His hand.
In the day that thy walls are to be built, in that day shall the decree be far removed.
The day for rebuilding your walls will come— the day for extending your boundary.
He shall recount his
worthies: they shall
stumble in their walk; they shall make
haste to the
wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.
He
summons his nobles; they
stumble as they advance. They race to its
wall; the protective shield is set in place.
Art thou better than
populous No, that was
situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose
rampart was the sea, and her
wall was from the sea?
Are you better than
Thebes, stationed by the Nile with water around her, whose
rampart was the sea, whose
wall was the water?
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they
flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Your guards are like the
swarming locust, and your
scribes like clouds of locusts that settle on the
walls on a cold day. When the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where.
For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.
For the stones will cry out from the
wall, and the rafters will
echo it from the
woodwork.
And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:
and said to him, “Run and tell that young man: ‘Jerusalem will be a city without
walls because of the multitude of men and
livestock within it.
For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
For I will be a wall of fire around it, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory within it.’”
Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a
vineyard, and
hedged it round about, and
digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to
husbandmen, and went into a far country:
Listen to another parable: There was a
landowner who planted a
vineyard. He put a
wall around it,
dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
So they brought him, and seeing Jesus, the spirit immediately threw the boy into a
convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around,
foaming at the mouth.
And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a
vineyard, and set an
hedge about it, and
digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to
husbandmen, and went into a far country.
Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a
vineyard. He put a
wall around it,
dug a wine
vat, and built a
watchtower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy
visitation.
They will level you to the ground—you and the children within your
walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of your
visitation from God.”
Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the
wall in a
basket.
One night, however, his disciples took him and lowered him in a
basket through a window in the
wall.
Then said Paul unto him, God shall
smite thee, thou whited
wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be
smitten contrary to the law?
Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you
whitewashed wall! You sit here to judge me according to the law, yet you
yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck.”
And through a window in a
basket was I let down by the
wall, and escaped his hands.
But I was lowered in a
basket through a window in the
wall and escaped his
grasp.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has
torn down the dividing
wall of hostility
By faith the
walls of
Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
By faith the
walls of
Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.
But it is happened unto them according to the true
proverb, The dog is turned to his own
vomit again; and the
sow that was washed to her
wallowing in the
mire.
Of them the
proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its
vomit,” and, “A
sow that is washed goes back to her
wallowing in the mud.”
And had a
wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written
thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
The city had a great and high wall with twelve gates inscribed with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel, and twelve angels at the gates.
And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
The wall of the city had twelve foundations bearing the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
The angel who spoke with me had a golden measuring rod to measure the city and its gates and walls.
And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
And he measured its wall to be 144 cubits, by the human measure the angel was using.
And the building of the
wall of it was of
jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
The
wall was made of
jasper, and the city itself of pure gold, as pure as glass.
The foundations of the city
walls were adorned with every kind of precious stone: The first foundation was
jasper, the second
sapphire, the third
chalcedony, the fourth
emerald,
As for the house of the Lord, they burnt it, and
brake down the
walls of Jerusalem, and set fire upon her towers:
Be it now known to the lord king, that the Jews that are up from you to us, being come into Jerusalem, that
rebellious and wicked city, do build the marketplaces, and repair the
walls of it and do lay the foundation of the temple.
Now if this city and the
walls thereof be made up again, they will not only refuse to give tribute, but also
rebel against kings.
Wherefore now we do declare unto thee, O lord the king, that if this city be built again, and the
walls thereof set up
anew, thou shalt from henceforth have no passage into Celosyria and Phenice.
If he
bid them make war the one against the other, they do it: if he send them out against the enemies, they go, and break down mountains
walls and towers.
Building an house unto the Lord, great and new, of
hewn and costly stones, and the timber already laid upon the
walls.
Keep the old and young within thy walls.
For thou hast
afflicted the
meek, thou hast
hurt the peaceable, thou hast loved liars, and destroyed the dwellings of them that brought forth fruit, and hast cast down the
walls of such as did thee no
harm.
And they shall break down the cities and walls, mountains and hills, trees of the wood, and grass of the meadows, and their corn.
And my clothes to the naked: and if I saw any of my nation dead, or cast about the walls of Nineve, I buried him.
The same night also I returned from the burial, and
slept by the
wall of my
courtyard, being
polluted and my face was uncovered:
And I knew not that there were sparrows in the
wall, and mine eyes being open, the sparrows muted warm dung into mine eyes, and a whiteness came in mine eyes: and I went to the physicians, but they helped me not: moreover Achiacharus did
nourish me, until I went into Elymais.
For Jerusalem shall be built up with sapphires and emeralds, and precious stone: thy walls and towers and battlements with pure gold.
And built in Ecbatane
walls round about of stones
hewn three cubits broad and six cubits long, and made the height of the
wall seventy cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty cubits:
And he
dispersed the people, every one to their own charge; and they went unto the
walls and towers of their city, and sent the women and children into their houses: and they were very low brought in the city.
Then said
Judith unto them, Hear me now, my brethren, and take this head, and
hang it upon the highest place of your
walls.
And as soon as the morning arose, they
hanged the head of Holofernes upon the
wall, and every man took his weapons, and they went forth by bands unto the straits of the mountain.
And when he had made a convenient room for it, set it in a wall, and made it fast with iron:
A heart settled upon a thought of understanding is as a fair plaistering on the wall of a gallery.
There is a word that is clothed about with death: God grant that it be not found in the
heritage of Jacob; for all such things shall be far from the godly, and they shall not
wallow in their sins.
A man that breaketh
wedlock, saying thus in his heart, Who
seeth me? I am compassed about with darkness, the
walls cover me, and no body
seeth me; what need I to fear? the most High will not remember my sins:
And among the
elect was Neemias, whose
renown is great, who raised up for us the
walls that were fallen, and set up the gates and the bars, and raised up our ruins again.
And by him was built from the foundation the double height, the high fortress of the wall about the temple:
And when he had taken the spoils of the city, he set it on fire, and pulled down the houses and walls thereof on every side.
