Furthermore, the Israelites
acted on Moses’ word and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold, and for clothing.
And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both must surely be put to death. They have
acted perversely; their blood is upon them.
And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their
uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:
and I
acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies—and if their
uncircumcised hearts will be humbled and they will make
amends for their iniquity,

trespass in the
accursed thing: for
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the
accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against the children of Israel.
The Israelites, however,
acted unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction.
Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD burned against the Israelites.
They did work
wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their
asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;
Now therefore, if ye have done truly and
sincerely, in that ye have made
Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;
Now if you have
acted faithfully and
honestly in making
Abimelech king, if you have done well by Jerubbaal and his family, and if you have done to him as he deserves—
if you have
acted faithfully and
honestly toward Jerubbaal and his house this day, then may you
rejoice in
Abimelech, and he in you.
And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done
foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
“You have
acted foolishly,” Samuel declared. “You have not kept the command that the LORD your God gave you; if you had, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.
For thou
didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
You have
acted in secret, but I will do this thing in broad
daylight before all Israel.’”
And David’s heart
smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have
sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I
beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very
foolishly.
After David had numbered the troops, his conscience was
stricken and he said to the LORD, “I have
sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, O LORD, I

smote the people, and said, Lo, I have
sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.
When David saw the angel striking down the people, he said to the LORD, “Surely I, the
shepherd, have
sinned and
acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house.”

And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and
chariot for
chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he
hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
And you must raise an army like the one you have lost—horse for horse and
chariot for
chariot—so we can fight the Israelites on the plain, where we will surely prevail.” And the king approved their plan and
acted accordingly.

slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
Yet he did not put the sons of the murderers to death, but acted according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”

beg You to take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have
acted very
foolishly.”
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and
acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
Yet if they
bethink themselves in the land
whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have done
amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have
acted wickedly,’
And he dealt wisely, and
dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every
fenced city: and he gave them
victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
Rehoboam also
acted wisely by
dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.
For the eyes of the LORD run to and
fro throughout the whole earth, to
shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.
Herein thou hast done
foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
For the eyes of the LORD
roam to and
fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him. You have
acted foolishly in this matter. From now on, therefore, you will be at war.”

trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So
didst thou get thee a name, as it is this day.
You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all his officials, and all the people of his land, for You knew they had
acted with
arrogance against our fathers. You made a name for
Yourself that endures to this day.

maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to

I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.
I
foretold the former things long ago; they came out of My mouth and I proclaimed them. Suddenly I
acted, and they came to pass.
My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the
dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.

acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have dropped him into the
cistern, where he will
starve to death, for there is no more bread in the city.”

desolate, because they have committed a
trespass, saith the Lord GOD.

acted unfaithfully,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be
polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
But I
acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were living, in whose sight I had revealed Myself to Israel by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.
But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be
polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.
But I
acted for the sake of My name, so that it would not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.
Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be
polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.
But I
withheld My hand and
acted for the sake of My name, so that it would not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that
Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking
vengeance, and hath greatly
offended, and
revenged himself upon them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because
Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah, and in so doing
incurred grievous guilt,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by
revenge, and have taken
vengeance with a
despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because the Philistines
acted in
vengeance, taking
vengeance with
malice of soul to destroy Judah with ancient hostility,
We have
sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
we have
sinned and done wrong. We have
acted wickedly and rebelled. We have turned away from Your commandments and ordinances.
And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast
gotten thee
renown, as at this day; we have
sinned, we have done wickedly.
Now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and who made for
Yourself a name
renowned to this day, we have
sinned; we have
acted wickedly.

commended the unjust
steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.

Who was before a
blasphemer, and a
persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
I was formerly a
blasphemer, a
persecutor, and a violent man; yet because I had
acted in ignorance and unbelief, I was shown mercy.
