Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
At this, they tried
again to seize Him, but He escaped their
grasp.
And went away
again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first
baptized; and there he abode.
Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had first been
baptizing, and He stayed there.
Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
and then He said to the disciples, “Let us go back to
Judea.”
His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
“
Rabbi,” they replied, “the Jews just tried to stone You, and You are going back there?”
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
“Your brother will rise again,” Jesus told her.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise
again in the resurrection at the last day.
Martha replied, “I know that he will rise
again in the resurrection at the last day.”
Jesus therefore
again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
Jesus, once again deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.
Then said Jesus, Let her alone:
against the day of my
burying hath she kept this.
“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “She has kept this
perfume in preparation for the day of My burial.
Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
Philip relayed this appeal to Andrew, and both of them went and told Jesus.
Father,
glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both
glorified it, and will
glorify it
again.
Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
For this reason they were unable to believe. For again, Isaiah says:
So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
When Jesus had washed their feet and put on His outer garments, He
reclined with them
again and asked, “Do you know what I have done for you?
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his
heel against me.
I am not speaking about all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But this is to
fulfill the Scripture: ‘The one who shares My bread has lifted up his
heel against Me.’
He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
Leaning back
against Jesus, he asked, “Lord, who is it?”
For some of them thought, because
Judas had the
bag, that Jesus had said unto him,
Buy those things that we have need of
against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
Since
Judas kept the money
bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him to
buy what was needed for the feast, or to give something to the poor.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and
welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come
again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would
rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would
rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
In a little while you will see Me no more, and then after a little while you will see Me.”
Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
Then some of His disciples asked one another, “Why is He telling us, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?”
Now Jesus knew that they were
desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye
enquire among
yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and
again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
Aware that they wanted to question Him, Jesus said to them, “Are you asking one another why I said, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’?
And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you
again, and your heart shall
rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you
again and your hearts will
rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
I came from the Father and entered the world. In turn, I will leave the world and go to the Father.”
Then asked he them
again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of
Nazareth.
So He asked them
again, “Whom are you seeking?” “Jesus of
Nazareth,” they answered.
Peter then denied
again: and immediately the
cock crew.
Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What
accusation bring ye
against this man?
So
Pilate went out to them and asked, “What
accusation are you bringing
against this man?”
Then
Pilate entered into the judgment hall
again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
Pilate went back into the
Praetorium, summoned Jesus, and asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out
again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
“What is truth?”
Pilate asked. And having said this, he went out
again to the Jews and told them, “I find no basis for a charge
against Him.
Then
cried they all
again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a
robber.
And said,
Hail, King of the Jews! and they
smote him with their hands.
And they went up to Him
again and
again, saying, “
Hail, King of the Jews!” and
slapping Him in the face.
Pilate therefore went forth
again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
Once
again Pilate came out and said to the Jews, “Look, I am bringing Him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge
against Him.”
When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they
cried out, saying,
Crucify him,
crucify him.
Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and
crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
As soon as the chief priests and officers saw Him, they
shouted, “
Crucify Him!
Crucify Him!” “You take Him and
crucify Him,”
Pilate replied, “for I find no basis for a charge
against Him.”
And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
and he went back into the
Praetorium. “Where are You from?” he asked. But Jesus gave no answer.
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed Me over to you is guilty of greater sin.”
And from
thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews
cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend:
whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh
against Caesar.
From then on,
Pilate tried to release Him, but the Jews kept
shouting, “If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar.
Anyone who declares himself a king is
defying Caesar.”
And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
And, as another Scripture says: “They will look on the One they have pierced.”
For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
For they still did not understand from the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.
Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
Then the disciples returned to their homes.
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.”
And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”
After these things Jesus shewed himself
again to the disciples at the sea of
Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
Later, by the Sea of
Tiberias, Jesus
again revealed Himself to the disciples. He made Himself known in this way:
He saith to him
again the second time, Simon, son of
Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him,
Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” “
Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.” Jesus told him, “
Shepherd My sheep.”
Then Peter, turning about,
seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also
leaned on his breast at
supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. He was the one who had
leaned back
against Jesus at the
supper to ask, “Lord, who is going to
betray You?”
When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord,
wilt thou at this time restore
again the kingdom to Israel?
So when they came together, they asked Him, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
And beholding the man which was
healed standing with them, they could say nothing
against it.
And seeing the man who had been
healed standing there with them, they had nothing to say in
response.
And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together
against the Lord and
against His
Anointed One.’
For of a truth
against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast
anointed, both Herod, and Pontius
Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
In fact, this is the very city where Herod and Pontius
Pilate conspired with the Gentiles and the people of Israel
against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You
anointed.
But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest
haply ye be found even to fight
against God.
But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find
yourselves fighting
against God.”
And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a
murmuring of the Grecians
against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily
ministration.
In those days when the disciples were increasing in number, the
Grecian Jews among them began to
grumble against the
Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
Then they
suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak
blasphemous words
against Moses, and
against God.
Then they
prompted some men to say, “We heard Stephen speak words of
blasphemy against Moses and
against God.”
And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak
blasphemous words
against this holy place, and the law:
where they presented false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.
And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they
strove, and would have set them at one
again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?
The next day he came upon two Israelites who were fighting, and he tried to
reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating each other?’
To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.
And he
kneeled down, and
cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell
asleep.
Falling on his knees, he
cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin
against them.” And when he had said this, he fell
asleep.
And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
And Saul was there, giving
approval to Stephen’s death. On that day a great persecution broke out
against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout
Judea and Samaria.
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out
murderous threats
against the disciples of the Lord. He approached the high priest
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to
kick against the pricks.
“Who are You, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are
persecuting,” He replied.
And
Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
So
Ananias went to the house, and when he arrived, he placed his hands on Saul. “Brother Saul,” he said, “the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here, has sent me so that you may see
again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed
against the Grecians: but they went about to
slay him.
He talked and
debated with the
Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him.
And the voice spake unto him
again the second time, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common.
The voice spoke to him a second time: “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
This was done
thrice: and the vessel was received up
again into heaven.
This happened three times, and all at once the sheet was taken back up into heaven.
But the voice answered me
again from heaven, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common.
But the voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’
And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into heaven.
And there stood up one of them named
Agabus, and
signified by the spirit that there should be great
dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of
Claudius Caesar.
One of them named
Agabus stood up and
predicted through the Spirit that a great famine would
sweep across the whole world. (This happened under
Claudius.)
And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a
mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
Now look, the hand of the Lord is
against you, and for a time you will be blind and unable to see the light of the sun.” Immediately
mist and darkness came over him, and he
groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus
again; as it is also written in the second
psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I
begotten thee.
He has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second
Psalm: ‘You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father.’
But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
But the One whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.
But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with
envy, and spake
against those things which were spoken by Paul,
contradicting and
blaspheming.
But the Jews
stirred up the
devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution
against Paul and
Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
The Jews, however, incited the religious women of prominence and the leading men of the city. They
stirred up persecution
against Paul and
Barnabas and drove them out of their district.
But they
shook off the dust of their feet
against them, and came unto
Iconium.
But the unbelieving Jews
stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected
against the brethren.
But the unbelieving Jews
stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds
against the brothers.
And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned
again to
Lystra, and to
Iconium, and Antioch,
They preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples. Then they returned to
Lystra,
Iconium, and Antioch,
After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
‘After this I will return and rebuild the fallen tent of David. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it,
And some days after Paul said unto
Barnabas, Let us go
again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
Some time later Paul said to
Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the brothers in every town where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing.”
And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
The crowd joined in the attack
against Paul and
Silas, and the magistrates ordered that they be
stripped and beaten with rods.
Opening and
alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen
again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I
preach unto you, is Christ.
explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am
proclaiming to you is the Christ,” he declared.
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some
mocked: and others said, We will hear thee
again of this matter.
When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to
mock him, but others said, “We want to hear you
again on this
topic.”
And when
Gallio was the deputy of
Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one
accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
But
bade them
farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return
again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
But as he left, he said, “I will come back to you if God is willing.” And he set sail from Ephesus.
And the man in whom the evil spirit was
leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed
against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Then the man with the evil spirit
jumped on them and overpowered them all. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house naked and wounded.
Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken
against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing
rashly.
Since these things are
undeniable, you ought to be calm and not do anything
rash.
So if
Demetrius and his fellow
craftsmen have a
complaint against anyone, the courts are open and proconsuls are available. Let them bring charges
against one another there.
And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through
Macedonia.
where he stayed three months. And when the Jews formed a plot
against him as he was about to sail for Syria, he decided to go back through
Macedonia.
When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
Then Paul went back
upstairs, broke bread, and
ate. And after speaking until
daybreak, he departed.
And we sailed thence, and came the next day over
against Chios; and the next day we arrived at
Samos, and
tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to
Miletus.
Sailing on from there, we arrived the next day opposite
Chios. The day after that we arrived at
Samos, and on the following day we came to
Miletus.
And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
Now I know that none of you among whom I have preached the kingdom will see my face again.
Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
They were especially
grieved by his statement that they would never see his face
again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.
And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again.
And after we had said our farewells, we went
aboard the ship, and they returned home.
And as we
tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named
Agabus.
After we had been there several days, a prophet named
Agabus came down from
Judea.
Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where
against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath
polluted this holy place.
crying out, “Men of Israel, help us! This is the man who teaches everywhere
against our people and
against our law and
against this place.
Furthermore, he has brought Greeks into the temple and
defiled this holy place.”
And it came to pass, that, when I was come
again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a
trance;
Later, when I had returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a
trance The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and
bade that he should be examined by
scourging; that he might know wherefore they
cried so
against him.
the commander ordered that Paul be brought into the
barracks. He directed that Paul be
flogged and
interrogated to determine the reason for this outcry
against him.
And there arose a great cry: and the
scribes that were of the
Pharisees’ part arose, and
strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight
against God.
A great
clamor arose, and some
scribes from the party of the
Pharisees got up and
contended sharply, “We find nothing wrong with this man. What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?”
And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:
and since I wanted to understand their charges
against him, I brought him down to their
Sanhedrin.
And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent
straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had
against him.
Farewell.
When I was informed that there was a plot
against the man, I sent him to you at once. I also
instructed his accusers to present their case
against him before you.
And after five days
Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain
orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor
against Paul.
Five days later the high priest
Ananias came down with some elders and a
lawyer named Tertullus, who presented to the governor their case
against Paul.
Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom
thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things,
whereof we
accuse him.
By examining him
yourself, you will be able to learn the truth about all our charges
against him.”
Nor can they prove to you any of their charges against me.
Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
who ought to appear before you and bring charges, if they have anything against me.
Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him
against Paul, and
besought him,
where the chief priests and Jewish leaders presented their case
against Paul. They urged
Festus
