And Urijah the priest built an altar according to all that king
Ahaz had sent from Damascus: so Urijah the priest made it against king
Ahaz came from Damascus.
And Uriah the priest built the altar according to all the instructions King
Ahaz had sent from Damascus, and he completed it by the time King
Ahaz had returned.
And king
Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meat offering, and the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings; and
sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: and the
brasen altar shall be for me to
enquire by.
Then King
Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, “Offer on the great altar the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, and the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, as well as the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings of all the people of the land.
Sprinkle on the altar all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze altar to seek guidance.”
Thus did Urijah the priest, according to all that king
Ahaz commanded.
So Uriah the priest did just as King
Ahaz had commanded.
And king
Ahaz cut off the borders of the bases, and removed the
laver from off them; and took down the sea from off the
brasen oxen that were under it, and put it upon a
pavement of stones.
King
Ahaz also cut off the frames of the movable stands and removed the bronze basin from each of them. He took down the Sea from the bronze oxen that were under it and put it on a stone base.
Now the rest of the acts of
Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Ahaz, along with his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
And
Ahaz slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and
Hezekiah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David, and his son
Hezekiah reigned in his place.
In the
twelfth year of
Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.
In the
twelfth year of the reign of
Ahaz over Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria nine years.
Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that
Hezekiah the son of
Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
In the third year of the reign of Hoshea son of Elah over Israel,
Hezekiah son of
Ahaz became king of Judah.
And Isaiah the prophet
cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the
dial of
Ahaz.
So Isaiah the prophet called out to the LORD, and He brought the shadow back the ten steps it had descended on the
stairway of
Ahaz.
For he built up again the high places which
Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for
Baal, and made a
grove, as did
Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father
Hezekiah had destroyed, and he raised up altars for
Baal. He made an Asherah pole, as King
Ahab of Israel had done, and he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the
plummet of the house of
Ahab: and I will
wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a
dish,
wiping it, and turning it
upside down.
I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the
plumb line used against the house of
Ahab, and I will
wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes out a
bowl—
wiping it and turning it
upside down.
And the altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of
Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which
Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and
brake them down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the
brook Kidron.
He pulled down the altars that the kings of Judah had set up on the roof near the upper chamber of
Ahaz, and the altars that
Manasseh had set up in the two courtyards of the house of the LORD. The king
pulverized them there and threw their dust into the Kidron Valley.
And
Coz begat Anub, and Zobebah, and the families of
Aharhel the son of Harum.
and Koz, who was the father of Anub and Zobebah and of the clans of Aharhel son of Harum.
Benjamin was the father of
Bela, his
firstborn; Ashbel was the second born,
Aharah the third,
And the sons of
Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tarea, and
Ahaz.
The sons of
Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tarea, and
Ahaz.
And
Ahaz begat Jehoadah; and Jehoadah
begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri
begat Moza,
Ahaz was the father of Jehoaddah, Jehoaddah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza.
And the sons of
Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and
Ahaz.
The sons of
Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and
Ahaz.
Ahaz was the father of Jarah; Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza.
Now
Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with
Ahab.
Now
Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance, and he allied himself with
Ahab by marriage.
And after certain years he went down to
Ahab to Samaria. And
Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And some years later he went down to visit
Ahab in Samaria, where
Ahab sacrificed many sheep and cattle for him and the people with him, and urged him to march up to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And
Ahab king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat king of Judah,
Wilt thou go with me to
Ramoth-
gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.
Ahab king of Israel asked
Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against
Ramoth-
gilead?” And
Jehoshaphat replied, “I am like you, and my people are your people; we will join you in the war.”
And the LORD said, Who shall
entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at
Ramoth-
gilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
And the LORD said, ‘Who will
entice Ahab king of Israel to march up and fall at
Ramoth-
gilead?’ And one suggested this, and another that.
And after this did
Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with
Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
Later,
Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with
Ahaziah king of Israel, who acted wickedly.
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of
Ahab: for he had the daughter of
Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.
And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of
Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of
Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD.
But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a
whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of
Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, which were better than
thyself:
but you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and have caused Judah and the people of Jerusalem to
prostitute themselves, just as the house of
Ahab prostituted itself. You have also killed your brothers, your father’s family, who were better than you.
And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah his youngest son king in his
stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So
Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
Then the people of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah, the youngest son of Jehoram, king in his place, since the raiders who had come into the camp with the Arabs had killed all the older sons. So
Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.
Forty and two years old was
Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was
Athaliah the daughter of Omri.
Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was
Athaliah, the
granddaughter of Omri.
He also walked in the ways of the house of
Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
Ahaziah also walked in the ways of the house of
Ahab, for his mother was his
counselor in wickedness.
Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of
Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as the house of
Ahab had done, for to his destruction they were his counselors after the death of his father.
He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of
Ahab king of Israel to war against
Hazael king of Syria at
Ramoth-
gilead: and the Syrians
smote Joram.
And he returned to be
healed in
Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at
Ramah, when he fought with
Hazael king of Syria. And
Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of
Ahab at
Jezreel, because he was sick.
so he returned to
Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at
Ramah when he fought against
Hazael king of
Aram. Then
Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to
Jezreel to visit
Joram son of
Ahab, because
Joram had been wounded.
And the destruction of
Ahaziah was of God by coming to
Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against
Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had
anointed to cut off the house of
Ahab.
And it came to pass, that, when
Jehu was
executing judgment upon the house of
Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of
Ahaziah, that ministered to
Ahaziah, he
slew them.
So while
Jehu was
executing judgment on the house of
Ahab, he found the rulers of Judah and the sons of
Ahaziah’s brothers who were serving
Ahaziah, and he killed them.
And he sought
Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was
hid in Samaria,) and brought him to
Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of
Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
Then
Jehu looked for
Ahaziah, and
Jehu’s soldiers captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. So
Ahaziah was brought to
Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart.” So no one was left from the house of
Ahaziah with the strength to rule the kingdom.
But when
Athaliah the mother of
Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.
When
Athaliah the mother of
Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to
annihilate all the royal heirs of the house of Judah.
But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took
Joash the son of
Ahaziah, and
stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his
nurse in a
bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of
Ahaziah,)
hid him from
Athaliah, so that she
slew him not.
But Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered, and she put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom. Because Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest, was
Ahaziah’s sister, she
hid Joash from
Athaliah so that she could not kill him.
And Jotham
slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Ahaz his son reigned in his
stead.
And Jotham rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Ahaz reigned in his place.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD.
Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
Moreover,
Ahaz burned incense in the Valley of
Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they
smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them
captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who
smote him with a great slaughter.
So the LORD his God delivered
Ahaz into the hand of the king of
Aram, who attacked him and took many
captives to Damascus.
Ahaz was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.
At that time did king
Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
At that time King
Ahaz sent for help from the king of Assyria.
For the LORD brought Judah low because of
Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and
transgressed sore against the LORD.
For the LORD humbled Judah because
Ahaz king of Israel had thrown off restraint in Judah and had been most unfaithful to the LORD.
And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.
For
Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
Although
Ahaz had taken a portion from the house of the LORD, from the royal palace, and from the princes and had presented it to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.
And in the time of his distress did he
trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king
Ahaz.
In the time of his distress, King
Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the LORD.
For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which
smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
Since Damascus had defeated him, he sacrificed to their gods and said, “Because the gods of the kings of
Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But these gods were the
downfall of
Ahaz and of all Israel.
And
Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
Then
Ahaz gathered up the articles of the house of God, cut them into pieces, shut the doors of the house of the LORD, and set up altars of his own on every street corner in Jerusalem.
Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Ahaz and all his ways, from beginning to end, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
And
Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the
sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and
Hezekiah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of Jerusalem, but he was not placed in the tombs of the kings of Israel. And his son
Hezekiah reigned in his place.
Moreover all the vessels, which king
Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his
transgression, have we prepared and
sanctified, and, behold, they are before the altar of the LORD.
Moreover, we have prepared and consecrated all the articles that King
Ahaz in his unfaithfulness cast aside during his reign. They are now in front of the altar of the LORD.”
And in the reign of
Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an
accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
And I gathered them together to the river than runneth to
Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.
Now I assembled these exiles at the canal that flows to
Ahava, and we camped there three days. And when I searched among the people and priests, I found no Levites there.
Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of
Ahava, that we might
afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
And there by the
Ahava Canal I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.
Then we departed from the river of
Ahava on the
twelfth day of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.
On the
twelfth day of the first month we set out from the
Ahava Canal to go to Jerusalem, and the hand of our God was upon us to protect us from the hands of the enemies and
bandits along the way.
And his brethren, chief of the fathers, two hundred forty and two: and Amashai the son of Azareel, the son of Ahasai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer,
Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of
Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah; and his associates, the leaders of families—242 men;
Now it came to pass in the days of
Ahasuerus, (this is
Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto
Ethiopia, over an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)
This is what happened in the days of
Xerxes, who reigned over 127 provinces from India to
Cush.
That in those days, when the king
Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in
Shushan the palace,
In those days King
Xerxes sat on his royal throne in the citadel of
Susa.
Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king
Ahasuerus.
Queen Vashti also gave a
banquet for the women in the royal palace of King
Xerxes.
On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was
merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of
Ahasuerus the king,
On the seventh day, when the king’s heart was
merry with wine, he ordered the seven eunuchs who served him—Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carkas—
What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king
Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?
“According to law,” he asked, “what should be done with Queen Vashti, since she refused to obey the command of King
Xerxes delivered by the eunuchs?”
And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus.
And in the presence of the king and his princes, Memucan replied, “Queen Vashti has wronged not only the king, but all the princes and the peoples in all the provinces of King
Xerxes.
For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall
despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king
Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.
For the conduct of the queen will become known to all women, causing them to
despise their husbands and say, ‘King
Xerxes ordered Queen Vashti to be brought before him, but she did not come.’
If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king
Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.
So if it pleases the king, let him issue a royal decree, and let it be recorded in the laws of Persia and Media so that it cannot be
repealed, that Vashti shall never again enter the presence of King
Xerxes, and that her royal position shall be given to a woman better than she.
After these things, when the wrath of king
Ahasuerus was
appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
Some time later, when the anger of King
Xerxes had
subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done, and what had been decreed against her.
Now when every
maid’s turn was come to go in to king
Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of
myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the
purifying of the women;)
In the twelve months before her turn to go to King
Xerxes, the
harem regulation required each young woman to receive beauty treatments with oil of
myrrh for six months, and then with perfumes and cosmetics for another six months.
So
Esther was taken unto king
Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month
Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
She was taken to King
Xerxes in the royal palace in the tenth month, the month of
Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
In those days, while
Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were
wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
After these things did king
Ahasuerus promote
Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
After these events, King
Xerxes honored
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite,
elevating him to a position above all the princes who were with him.
And he thought
scorn to lay hands on
Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of
Mordecai: wherefore
Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of
Ahasuerus, even the people of
Mordecai.
And when he learned the identity of
Mordecai’s people, he
scorned the notion of laying hands on
Mordecai alone. Instead, he sought to destroy all of
Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the kingdom of
Xerxes.
In the first month, that is, the month
Nisan, in the
twelfth year of king
Ahasuerus, they cast
Pur, that is, the lot, before
Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the
twelfth month, that is, the month
Adar.
In the
twelfth year of King
Xerxes, in the first month, the month of
Nisan, the
Pur (that is, the lot) was cast before
Haman to determine a day and month. And the lot fell on the
twelfth month, the month of
Adar.
And
Haman said unto king
Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and
dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are
diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them.
Then
Haman informed King
Xerxes, “There is a certain people scattered and
dispersed among the peoples of every province of your kingdom. Their laws are different from
everyone else’s, and they do not obey the king’s laws. So it is not in the king’s best interest to
tolerate them.
Then were the king’s
scribes called on the
thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that
Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king
Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.
On the
thirteenth day of the first month, the royal
scribes were summoned and the order was written exactly as
Haman commanded the royal satraps, the governors of each province, and the officials of each people, in the
script of each province and the language of every people. It was written in the name of King
Xerxes and sealed with the royal
signet ring.
And it was found written, that
Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
And there it was found recorded that
Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the king’s entrance, when they had
conspired to
assassinate King
Xerxes.
Then King
Xerxes spoke up and asked Queen
Esther, “Who is this, and where is the one who would
devise such a scheme?”
On that day did the king
Ahasuerus give the house of
Haman the Jews’ enemy unto
Esther the queen. And
Mordecai came before the king; for
Esther had told what he was unto her.
And he wrote in the king
Ahasuerus’ name, and sealed it with the king’s ring, and sent letters by posts on
horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young
dromedaries:
Mordecai wrote in the name of King
Xerxes and sealed it with the royal
signet ring. He sent the documents by mounted couriers riding on swift horses
bred from the royal mares.
The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their
hurt: and no man could
withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.
In each of the provinces of King
Xerxes, the Jews assembled in their cities to attack those who sought to
harm them. No man could
withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen upon all peoples.
And
Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus, both
nigh and far,
Mordecai recorded these events and sent letters to all the Jews in all the provinces of King
Xerxes, both near and far,
And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of
Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,
And
Mordecai sent letters with words of peace and truth to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of the kingdom of
Xerxes,
And the king
Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon the land, and upon the isles of the sea.
Now King
Xerxes imposed tribute throughout the land, even to its
farthest shores.
For
Mordecai the
Jew was next unto king
Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.
For
Mordecai the
Jew was second only to King
Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews and highly favored by his many
kinsmen, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen.
Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said,
Aha,
aha, our eye hath seen it.
They
gape at me and say, “
Aha,
aha! Our eyes have seen!”
Let them not say in their hearts,
Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have
swallowed him up.
Let them not say in their hearts, “
Aha, just what we wanted!” Let them not say, “We have
swallowed him up!”
Let them be
desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me,
Aha,
aha.
May those who say to me, “
Aha,
aha!” be
appalled at their own shame.
Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha.
May those who say, “Aha, aha!” retreat because of their shame.
The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz, and
Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
This is the vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz, and
Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
And it came to pass in the days of
Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
Now in the days that
Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, Rezin king of
Aram marched up to
wage war against Jerusalem. He was accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel, but he could not overpower the city.
And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is
confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.
When it was reported to the house of David that
Aram was in league with Ephraim, the hearts of
Ahaz and his people
trembled like trees in the forest
shaken by the wind.
Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet
Ahaz, thou, and
Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the
conduit of the upper
pool in the
highway of the fuller’s field;
Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out with your son
Shear-jashub to meet
Ahaz at the end of the
aqueduct that feeds the upper
