Their enemies
also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
Their enemies
oppressed them, and subdued them under their hand.
He made them
also to be
pitied of all those that carried them
captives.
Let them
exalt him
also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
Let them
exalt Him in the assembly of the people and praise Him in the council of the elders.
He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their herds diminish.
They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and
beg: let them seek their bread
also out of their
desolate places.
May his children
wander as beggars, seeking
sustenance far from their ruined homes.
I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.
I am an object of
scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they
shake their heads.
They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
They do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.
Princes
also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did
meditate in thy statutes.
Though rulers sit and
slander me, Your servant meditates on Your statutes.
Thy
testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.
Your
testimonies are indeed my delight; they are my counselors.
Let thy
mercies come
also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word.
May Your loving devotion come to me, O LORD, Your salvation, according to Your promise.
My hands
also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will
meditate in thy statutes.
I lift up my hands to Your commandments, which I love, and I
meditate on Your statutes.
If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall
also sit upon thy throne for
evermore.
If your sons keep My covenant and the testimony I will teach them, then their sons will
also sit on your throne
forever and ever.”
I will
also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall
shout aloud for joy.
I will
clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will sing out in joy.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God, how vast is their sum!
Let the righteous
smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer
also shall be in their
calamities.
Let the righteous man strike me; let his
rebuke be an act of loving devotion. It is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. For my prayer is ever against the deeds of the wicked.
He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.
He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.
He established them
forever and ever; He issued a decree that will never pass away.
He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.
He has raised up a horn for His people, the praise of all His saints, of Israel, a people near to Him.
Hallelujah!
He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
he taught me and said, “Let your heart lay hold of my words; keep my commands and you will live.
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
A generous soul will
prosper, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
Also to
punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for
equity.
When the wicked cometh, then cometh
also contempt, and with
ignominy reproach.
With a wicked man comes contempt as well, and shame is accompanied by disgrace.
He
also that is
slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
Even zeal is no good without knowledge, and he who
hurries his footsteps misses the mark.
Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he
also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too shall cry out and receive no answer.
Buy the truth, and sell it not;
also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Invest in truth and never sell it— in wisdom and instruction and understanding.
She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
Like a
robber she lies in wait and multiplies the faithless among men.
These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
These
also are sayings of the wise: To show
partiality in judgment is not good.
These are
also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of
Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
These are additional
proverbs of Solomon, which were copied by the men of
Hezekiah king of Judah:
Answer not a
fool according to his folly, lest thou
also be like unto him.
Do not answer a
fool according to his folly, or you
yourself will be like him.
A
greyhound; an he goat
also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
She rises while it is still night to provide food for her household and portions for her maidservants.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband praises her as well:
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
The sun rises and the sun sets; it
hurries back to where it rises.
And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this
also is
vexation of spirit.
So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind.
I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with
mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this
also is vanity.
I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy what is good!” But it proved to be
futile.
I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:
I acquired menservants and maidservants, and servants were born in my house. I
also owned more herds and flocks than
anyone in Jerusalem before me,
I gathered me
also silver and gold, and the peculiar
treasure of kings and of the provinces: I
gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.
and I accumulated for myself silver and gold and the
treasure of kings and provinces. I gathered to myself male and female singers, and the delights of the sons of men—many concubines.
So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.
So I became great and surpassed all in Jerusalem who had preceded me; and my wisdom remained with me.
The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the
fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived
also that one event happeneth to them all.
The wise man has eyes in his head, but the
fool walks in darkness. Yet I
also came to
realize that one fate overcomes them both.
Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the
fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this
also is vanity.
So I said to myself, “The fate of the
fool will
also befall me. What then have I gained by being wise?” And I said to myself that this too is
futile.
And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a
fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is
also vanity.
And who knows whether that man will be wise or
foolish? Yet he will take over all the labor at which I have worked
skillfully under the sun. This too is
futile.
For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in
equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This
also is vanity and a great evil.
When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and he must give his portion to a man who has not worked for it, this too is
futile and a great evil.
For all his days are sorrows, and his
travail grief;
yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is
also vanity.
Indeed, all his days are filled with grief, and his task is sorrowful; even at night, his mind does not rest. This too is
futile.
There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
Nothing is better for a man than to eat and drink and enjoy his work. I have also seen that this is from the hand of God.
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the
sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to
heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This
also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
To the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the
sinner He assigns the task of gathering and
accumulating that which he will hand over to one who pleases God. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has
also set
eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot
fathom the work that God has done from beginning to end.
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
and also that every man should eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his labor—this is the gift of God.
Again, I considered all
travail, and every right work, that for this a man is
envied of his neighbour. This is
also vanity and
vexation of spirit.
I saw that all labor and success spring from a man’s
envy of his
neighbor. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
There is one alone, and there is not a second;
yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and
bereave my soul of good? This is
also vanity,
yea, it is a
sore travail.
There is a man all alone, without even a son or brother. And though there is no end to his labor, his eyes are still not content with his wealth: “For whom do I
toil and
bereave my soul of enjoyment?” This too is
futile—a
miserable task.
For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor.
For the youth has come from the prison to the
kingship, though he was born poor in his own kingdom.
There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they
also that come after shall not
rejoice in him. Surely this
also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
There is no limit to all the people who were before them. Yet the successor will not be celebrated by those who come even later. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are
also divers vanities: but fear thou God.
For as many dreams bring
futility, so do many words. Therefore, fear God.
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
He who loves money is never satisfied by money, and he who loves wealth is never satisfied by income. This too is
futile.
And this
also is a
sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind?
This too is a
grievous evil: Exactly as a man is born, so he will depart. What does he gain as he toils for the wind?
All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.
Moreover, all his days he eats in darkness, with much sorrow, sickness, and anger.
Every man
also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to
rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
Furthermore, God has given riches and wealth to every man, and He has enabled him to enjoy them, to accept his lot, and to
rejoice in his labor. This is a gift from God.
If a man
beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and
also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.
A man may father a hundred children and live for many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he is unsatisfied with his prosperity and does not even receive a proper burial, I say that a
stillborn child is better off than he.
Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is
also vanity and
vexation of spirit.
Better what the eye can see than the wandering of desire. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of
adversity consider: God
also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
In the day of prosperity, be joyful, but in the day of
adversity, consider this: God has made one of these along with the other, so that a man cannot discover anything that will come after him.
It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this;
yea,
also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
It is good to
grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who fears God will follow both warnings.
Also take no
heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant
curse thee:
Do not pay attention to every word that is spoken, or you may hear your servant
cursing you.
For you know in your heart that many times you
yourself have
cursed others.
And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.
Then too, I saw the burial of the wicked who used to go in and out of the holy place, and they were praised in the city where they had done so. This too is
futile.
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I
also know that it will go well with those who fear God, who are
reverent in His presence.
There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
There is a
futility that is done on the earth: There are righteous men who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked men who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is
futile.
When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for
also there is that neither day nor night
seeth sleep with his eyes:)
When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the task that one performs on the earth—though his eyes do not see sleep in the day or even in the night—
This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all:
yea,
also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
This is an evil in everything that is done under the sun: There is one fate for
everyone.
Furthermore, the hearts of men are full of evil and madness while they are alive, and afterward they join the dead.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their
envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Their love, their
hate, and their
envy have already
vanished, and they will never again have a share in all that is done under the sun.
For man
also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the
snare; so are the sons of men
snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
For surely no man knows his time: Like fish caught in a cruel net or birds
trapped in a
snare, so men are ensnared in an evil time that suddenly falls upon them.
This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
I have also seen this wisdom under the sun, and it was great to me:
Yea also, when he that is a
fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a
fool.
Even as the
fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking, and he shows
everyone that he is a
fool.
A
fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
Yet the
fool multiplies words. No one knows what is coming, and who can tell him what will come after him?
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
Divide your portion among seven, or even eight, for you do not know what
disaster may
befall the land.
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the
almond tree shall
flourish, and the
grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
when men fear the heights and dangers of the road, when the
almond tree blossoms, the
grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper
berry shrivels— for then man goes to his eternal home and mourners walk the streets.
And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge;
yea, he gave good
heed, and sought out, and set in order many
proverbs.
Not only was the Teacher wise, but he
also taught the people knowledge; he
pondered, searched out, and arranged many
proverbs.
Behold, thou art fair, my beloved,
yea, pleasant:
also our bed is green.
How handsome you are, my beloved! Oh, how delightful! The soft grass is our bed.
I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;
I said, “I will
climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like clusters of the vine, the
fragrance of your breath like apples,
Their land
also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is
also full of horses, neither is there any end of their
chariots:
Their land is full of silver and gold, with no limit to their treasures; their land is full of horses, with no limit to their
chariots.
Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:
Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made.
Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of
Zion are
haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and
wanton eyes, walking and
mincing as they go, and making a
tinkling with their feet:
And he
fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and
also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
He
dug it up and cleared the stones and planted the finest vines. He built a
watchtower in the middle and
dug out a winepress as well. He waited for the
vineyard to yield good grapes, but the fruit it produced was
sour!
And I will lay it waste: it shall not be
pruned, nor
digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will
also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
I will make it a wasteland, neither
pruned nor cultivated, and thorns and briers will grow up. I will command the clouds that rain shall not fall on it.”
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and
exalted; and the train of His
robe filled the temple.
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!”
And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to
weary men, but will ye
weary my God
also?
Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the
patience of men? Will you try the
patience of my God as well?
In the same day shall the Lord
shave with a
razor that is
hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall
also consume the
beard.
On that day the Lord will use a
razor hired from beyond the Euphrates—the king of Assyria—to
shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to remove your
beard as well.
The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,
And the LORD spoke to me further:
Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
and as I have done to Samaria and its idols, will I not also do to Jerusalem and her idols?”
The wolf
also shall dwell with the lamb, and the
leopard shall lie down with the
kid; and the
calf and the young lion and the
fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
The wolf will live with the lamb, and the
leopard will lie down with the goat; the
calf and young lion and
fatling will be together, and a little child will lead them.
The
envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the
adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not
envy Judah, and Judah shall not
vex Ephraim.
Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart, and the
adversaries of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will no longer
envy Judah, nor will Judah
harass Ephraim.
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation.”
I have commanded my
sanctified ones, I have
also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that
rejoice in my highness.
I have commanded My
sanctified ones; I have even summoned My warriors to
execute My wrath and
exult in My triumph.
