And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To
buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an
altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
“Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” Araunah said. “To
buy your
threshing floor,” David replied, “that I may build an
altar to the LORD, so that the plague upon the people may be
halted.”
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
And there he built an
altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then the LORD answered the prayers on behalf of the land, and the plague upon Israel was
halted.
And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
But Adonijah, in fear of Solomon, got up and went to take hold of the horns of the altar.
And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the
altar, saying, Let king Solomon
swear unto me to day that he will not
slay his servant with the sword.
It was reported to Solomon: “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, and he has taken hold of the horns of the
altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon first
swear to me not to put his servant to the sword.’”
So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
So King Solomon summoned Adonijah down from the altar, and he came and bowed down before King Solomon, who said to him, “Go to your home.”
Then
tidings came to
Joab: for
Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after
Absalom. And
Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the
altar.
When the news reached
Joab, who had
conspired with Adonijah but not with
Absalom, he fled to the tent of the LORD and took hold of the horns of the
altar.
And it was told king Solomon that
Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, he is by the
altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.
It was reported to King Solomon: “
Joab has fled to the tent of the LORD and is now beside the
altar.” So Solomon sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, “Go, strike him down!”
And the king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that
altar.
Now the king went to
Gibeon to sacrifice there, for it was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on the
altar there.
And the
oracle in the
forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the
altar which was of
cedar.
The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the
altar of
cedar.
And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole
altar that was by the
oracle he overlaid with gold.
So he overlaid with gold the whole interior of the temple, until everything was completely finished. He also overlaid with gold the entire altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
And Solomon made all the vessels that
pertained unto the house of the LORD: the
altar of gold, and the table of gold,
whereupon the
shewbread was,
Solomon also made all the furnishings for the house of the LORD: the golden altar; the golden table on which was placed the Bread of the Presence;
And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,
If any man
trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to
swear, and the oath come before thine
altar in this house:
When a man sins against his
neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your
altar in this temple,
And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and
supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the
altar of the LORD, from
kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.
Now when Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and petition to the LORD, he got up before the
altar of the LORD, where he had been
kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven.
The same day did the king
hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the
brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.
On that same day the king consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze
altar before the LORD was too small to contain all these offerings.
And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.
Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, burning incense with them before the LORD. So he completed the temple.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the
altar. So did he in
Bethel, sacrificing unto the
calves that he had made: and he placed in
Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast on the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the
altar; he made this offering in
Bethel to sacrifice to the
calves he had set up, and he
installed priests in
Bethel for the high places he had set up.
So he offered upon the
altar which he had made in
Bethel the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the
altar, and burnt incense.
On the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of his own choosing,
Jeroboam offered sacrifices on the
altar he had set up in
Bethel. So he ordained a feast for the Israelites, offered sacrifices on the
altar, and burned incense.
And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto
Bethel: and
Jeroboam stood by the
altar to burn incense.
Suddenly, as
Jeroboam was standing beside the
altar to burn incense, there came a man of God from Judah to
Bethel by the word of the LORD.
And he
cried against the
altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O
altar,
altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David,
Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
And he
cried out against the
altar by the word of the LORD, “O
altar, O
altar, this is what the LORD says: ‘A son named
Josiah will be born to the house of David, and upon you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense upon you, and human bones will be burned upon you.’”
And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.
That day the man of God gave a sign, saying, “The LORD has spoken this sign: ‘Surely the altar will be split apart, and the ashes upon it will be poured out.’”
And it came to pass, when king
Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had
cried against the
altar in
Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the
altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
Now when King
Jeroboam, who was at the
altar in
Bethel, heard the word that the man of God had
cried out against it, he stretched out his hand and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward him
withered, so that he could not pull it back.
The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
And the altar was split apart, and the ashes poured out, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
For the saying which he
cried by the word of the LORD against the
altar in
Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
for the message that he
cried out by the word of the LORD against the
altar in
Bethel and against all the shrines on the high places in the cities of Samaria will surely come to pass.”
And he reared up an
altar for
Baal in the house of
Baal, which he had built in Samaria.
First,
Ahab set up an
altar for
Baal in the temple of
Baal that he had built in Samaria.
And they took the
bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of
Baal from morning even until
noon, saying, O
Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they
leaped upon the
altar which was made.
And they took the bull that was given them, prepared it, and called on the name of
Baal from morning until
noon,
shouting, “O
Baal, answer us!” But there was no sound, and no one answered as they
leaped around the
altar they had made.
And
Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the
altar of the LORD that was broken down.
Then
Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” So all the people approached him, and he repaired the
altar of the LORD that had been
torn down.
And with the stones he built an
altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a
trench about the
altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
And with the stones,
Elijah built an
altar in the name of the LORD. Then he
dug a
trench around the
altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed.
And the water ran round about the
altar; and he filled the
trench also with water.
So the water ran down around the
altar and even filled the
trench.
And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
At the time of the evening sacrifice,
Elijah the prophet approached the
altar and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and have done all these things at Your command.
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine
altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your
altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine
altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your
altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
And the guards stood with weapons in hand surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
And all the people of the land went into the house of
Baal, and
brake it down; his
altars and his images
brake they in pieces thoroughly, and
slew Mattan the priest of
Baal before the
altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
So all the people of the land went to the temple of
Baal and
tore it down. They
smashed the
altars and idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of
Baal in front of the
altars. And Jehoiada the priest posted guards for the house of the LORD.
But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the
lid of it, and set it beside the
altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in its
lid, and set it beside the
altar on the right side as one enters the house of the LORD. There the priests who guarded the
threshold put all the money brought into the house of the LORD.
And king
Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and saw an
altar that was at Damascus: and king
Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the
altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the
workmanship thereof.
Then King
Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria. On seeing the
altar in Damascus, King
Ahaz sent Uriah the priest a model of the
altar and complete plans for its construction.
And Urijah the priest built an
altar according to all that king
Ahaz had sent from Damascus: so Urijah the priest made it against king
Ahaz came from Damascus.
And Uriah the priest built the
altar according to all the instructions King
Ahaz had sent from Damascus, and he completed it by the time King
Ahaz had returned.
And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the
altar: and the king approached to the
altar, and offered
thereon.
When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and presented offerings on it.
and he burnt his burnt offering and his meat offering, and poured his drink offering, and
sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings, upon the
altar.
He offered his burnt offering and his grain offering, poured out his drink offering, and
sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings on the
altar.
And he brought also the
brasen altar, which was before the LORD, from the
forefront of the house, from between the
altar and the house of the LORD, and put it on the north side of the
altar.
He also took the bronze altar that stood before the LORD from the front of the temple (between the new altar and the house of the LORD) and he put it on the north side of the new altar.
And king
Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great
altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meat offering, and the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings; and
sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: and the
brasen altar shall be for me to
enquire by.
Then King
Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, “Offer on the great
altar the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, and the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, as well as the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings of all the people of the land.
Sprinkle on the
altar all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze
altar to seek guidance.”
But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose
altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this
altar in Jerusalem?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and
altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem: ‘You must worship before this
altar in Jerusalem’?
For he built up again the high places which
Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up
altars for
Baal, and made a
grove, as did
Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father
Hezekiah had destroyed, and he raised up
altars for
Baal. He made an Asherah pole, as King
Ahab of Israel had done, and he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.
Manasseh also built
altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I will put My Name.”
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
In both courtyards of the house of the LORD, he built altars to all the host of heaven.
Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the
altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the
unleavened bread among their brethren.
Although the priests of the high places did not come up to the
altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, they
ate unleavened bread with their fellow priests.
And the
altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of
Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the
altars which
Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and
brake them down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the
brook Kidron.
He pulled down the
altars that the kings of Judah had set up on the roof near the upper chamber of
Ahaz, and the
altars that
Manasseh had set up in the two courtyards of the house of the LORD. The king
pulverized them there and threw their dust into the Kidron Valley.
Moreover the
altar that was at
Bethel, and the high place which
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that
altar and the high place he
brake down, and burned the high place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the
grove.
He even pulled down the
altar at
Bethel, the high place set up by
Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin. Then he burned the high place, ground it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole.
And as
Josiah turned himself, he
spied the
sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the
sepulchres, and burned them upon the
altar, and
polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
And as
Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the
hillside, and he sent someone to take the bones out of the tombs, and he burned them on the
altar to
defile it, according to the word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who had
foretold these things.
Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the
sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the
altar of
Bethel.
Then the king asked, “What is this monument I see?” And the men of the city replied, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and pronounced these things that you have done to the
altar of
Bethel.”
And he
slew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the
altars, and burned men’s bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.
On the altars he slaughtered all the priests of the high places, and he burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
But Aaron and his sons offered upon the
altar of the burnt offering, and on the
altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the place most holy, and to make an
atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
But Aaron and his sons did all the work of the Most Holy Place. They presented the offerings on the
altar of burnt offering and on the
altar of incense to make
atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;
to regularly present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offerings, morning and evening, according to all that was written in the Law of the LORD, which He had commanded Israel to keep.
Then the angel of the LORD commanded
Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an
altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then the angel of the LORD ordered
Gad to tell David to go up and build an
altar to the LORD on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the site of this
threshing floor, that I may build an
altar to the LORD. Sell it to me for the full price, so that the plague upon the people may be
halted.”
And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called upon the LORD, who answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the
altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at
Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of the LORD that Moses had made in the wilderness and the
altar of burnt offering were presently at the high place in
Gibeon,
Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.
Then David said, “Here shall be the house of the LORD God, as well as the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
And for the
altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the
chariot of the cherubims, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
the weight of the refined gold for the
altar of incense; and the plans for the
chariot of the gold
cherubim that spread their wings and overshadowed the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
But the bronze
altar made by Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the LORD. So Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him there.
And Solomon went up thither to the
brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
Solomon offered sacrifices there before the LORD on the bronze altar in the Tent of Meeting, where he offered a thousand burnt offerings.
Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.
He made a bronze altar twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and ten cubits high.
And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden
altar also, and the tables
whereon the
shewbread was set;
Solomon also made all the furnishings for the house of God: the golden altar; the tables on which was placed the Bread of the Presence;
Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of
Asaph, of Heman, of
Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being
arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and
psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the
altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with
trumpets:)
all the
Levitical singers—
Asaph, Heman,
Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the
altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120 priests sounding
trumpets.
And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him
swear, and the oath come before thine
altar in this house;
When a man sins against his
neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your
altar in this temple,
Moreover Solomon
hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze
altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.
And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the
dedication of the
altar seven days, and the feast seven days.
On the eighth day they held a solemn assembly, for the
dedication of the
altar had lasted seven days, and the feast seven days more.
Then Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the LORD on the
altar of the LORD, which he had built before the
porch,
At that time Solomon offered burnt offerings to the LORD on the
altar of the LORD he had built in front of the
portico.
For he took away the
altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and
brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
He removed the foreign
altars and high places,
shattered the sacred pillars, and
chopped down the Asherah poles.
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
He also removed the high places and incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and under him the kingdom was at peace.
And when
Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the
abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the
altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the
altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
He stationed all the troops, with their weapons in hand, surrounding the king by the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
Then all the people went to the house of
Baal, and
brake it down, and
brake his
altars and his images in pieces, and
slew Mattan the priest of
Baal before the
altars.
So all the people went to the temple of
Baal and
tore it down. They
smashed the
altars and idols to pieces and killed Mattan the priest of
Baal in front of the
altars.
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he
transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the
altar of incense.
But when Uzziah grew powerful, his
arrogance led to his own destruction. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, for he entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the
altar of incense.
Then Uzziah was
wroth, and had a
censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was
wroth with the priests, the
leprosy even rose up in his
forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense
altar.
Uzziah, with a
censer in his hand to offer incense, was
enraged. But while he
raged against the priests in their presence in the house of the LORD before the
altar of incense,
leprosy broke out on his
forehead.
And
Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him
altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
Then
Ahaz gathered up the articles of the house of God, cut them into pieces, shut the doors of the house of the LORD, and set up
altars of his own on every street corner in Jerusalem.
Then they went in to
Hezekiah the king, and said, We have
cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the
altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the
shewbread table, with all the vessels thereof.
Then they went in to King
Hezekiah and reported, “We have
cleansed the entire house of the LORD, the
altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the table of the
showbread with all its utensils.
Moreover all the vessels, which king
Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his
transgression, have we prepared and
sanctified, and, behold, they are before the
altar of the LORD.
Moreover, we have prepared and consecrated all the articles that King
Ahaz in his unfaithfulness cast aside during his reign. They are now in front of the
altar of the LORD.”
And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And the king commanded the priests, the descendants of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and
sprinkled it on the
altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they
sprinkled the blood upon the
altar: they killed also the lambs, and they
sprinkled the blood upon the
altar.
So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests took the blood and
sprinkled it on the
altar. They slaughtered the rams and
sprinkled the blood on the
altar. And they slaughtered the lambs and
sprinkled the blood on the
altar.
And the priests killed them, and they made
reconciliation with their blood upon the
altar, to make an
atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.
And the priests slaughtered the goats and put their blood on the
altar for a sin offering, to make
atonement for all Israel, because the king had ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel.
And
Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the
altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also with the
trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel.
And
Hezekiah ordered that the burnt offering be sacrificed on the
altar. When the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD and the
trumpets began as well, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel.
And they arose and took away the
altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the
altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the
brook Kidron.
They proceeded to remove the altars in Jerusalem and to take away the incense altars and throw them into the Kidron Valley.
Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and
brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the
altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
When all this had ended, the Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars,
chopped down the Asherah poles, and
tore down the high places and
altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
Hath not the same
Hezekiah taken away his high places and his
altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one
altar, and burn incense upon it?
Did not
Hezekiah himself remove His high places and His
altars and say to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before one
altar, and on it you shall burn sacrifices’?
For he built again the high places which
Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up
altars for
Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father
Hezekiah had
torn down, and he raised up
altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
Also he built
altars in the house of the LORD,
whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.
Manasseh also built
altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “My Name will remain in Jerusalem
forever.”
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
In both courtyards of the house of the LORD, he built altars to all the host of heaven.
And he took away the strange gods, and the
idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the
altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.
He removed the foreign gods and the
idol from the house of the LORD, along with all the
altars he had built on the temple mount and in Jerusalem, and he
dumped them outside the city.
And he repaired the
altar of the LORD, and sacrificed
thereon peace offerings and
thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel.
Then he restored the
altar of the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings and
thank offerings on it, and he told Judah to serve the LORD, the God of Israel.
And they
brake down the
altars of
Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images, he
brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and
strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
Then in his presence the
altars of the Baals were
torn down, and he cut to pieces the incense
altars that were above them. He
shattered the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images,
crushed them to dust, and scattered them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their
altars, and
cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
Then he burned the bones of the priests on their
altars. So he
cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
And when he had broken down the
altars and the groves, and had beaten the
graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
He
tore down the
altars and Asherah poles,
crushed the idols to powder, and cut to pieces all the incense
altars throughout the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the
passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the
altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of king
Josiah.
So on that day the entire service of the LORD was carried out for
celebrating the
Passover and offering burnt offerings on the
altar of the LORD, according to the command of King
Josiah.
Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the
altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings
thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.
Then Jeshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests, along with
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates, began to build the
altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God.
And they set the
altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings
thereon unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
They set up the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD—both the morning and evening burnt offerings—even though they feared the people of the land.
That thou mayest
buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the
altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.
With this money, therefore, you are to
buy as many bulls, rams, and lambs as needed, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings, and offer them on the
altar at the house of your God in Jerusalem.
And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law:
We have cast lots among the priests, Levites, and people for the
donation of wood by our families at the appointed times each year. They are to bring it to the house of our God to burn on the
altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the Law.
I will wash mine hands in
innocency: so will I compass thine
altar, O LORD:
I wash my hands in
innocence that I may go about Your
altar, O LORD,
